Hi,
I'm trying to get my SGS4 to a very stock look, and right now the "custom" stuff is showing up during boot. I've tried recovery reset and flashing an ODIN tar to it, full-wipe, and still nothing. The phone is on kitkat (NC5). What can I do to remove the padlock and custom from startup? I've read that an ODIN tar would be a sure-fire way, but apparently that didn't work.

Definitely Tri Angle Away
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway
Don't get too spooked by all the warnings it gives you about possibly bricking your phone. I've used it on multiple roms and with different kernels and IF it doesn't work it simply boots you into download mode or stock recovery and you can just reboot.
If it just turns your phone off... than manually boot into stock recovery and Tri Angle Away should take over from there with instructions for you. Basically just hit volume up to reset flash counter and your good. That silly custom screen will be no more!

Thanks for the replies, everyone! Triangle Away did the trick. One more tool in the bag o' tricks!

SOLVED Flashing stock with odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2289325
After a couple hours of searching I haven't had any luck fixing what i've mistakenly done to my phone.
I made a new account and am first posting because I am at witts end.
The status of my phone is-
it will not boot.
It hangs at the Samsung Custom screen.
I can only get into download mode.
When I try to boot into recovery the blue text top left says it's booting but it doesn't boot into recovery.
I suspect I corrupted my recovery somehow.
I've tried flashing different kernels with odin and the few that ive tried successfully flash but same thing still happens.
I think I need a CWM recovery or TWRP recovery that I can flash with odin? Is that a thing?
Any point in the right direction would greatly be appreciated.

You can try that I don't know if it'll work in download/odin.
I suggest just flashing the stock update via odin and re root..

Those files do not work with ODIN.
I dont have a stock update file to flash with odin nor have I been able to find any for download.
The mdk stock firmware file is located in the dev section, flashable via odin.

This is the MDK image that will take you back to bone stock, out-of-the-box. Just open ODIN, put the phone in download mode, put this file in PDA only section, and you're golden.

It's nice to have my phone back , I was getting really worried there for a bit..
I had TWRP and CleanRom Running just fine but after a few mods and a reboot it hung on me.
I wonder if anyone is aware of these issues or if I'm just 'special' Hmmm
I really wanted to have a LIGHT TouchWiz rom that I can add mods to myself.
Any suggestions?
Please help! I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545) rooted on VRUAME7.
I did something really stupid and tried to flash the Google Wallet Mod and it ended up bricking my phone. It would show the Samsung and unlocked Custom logo and then the screen would go blank with the blue light on permanently. For some reason, I couldn't get into recovery mode (ClockWorkMod). Only Download mode worked.
So, I tried following the instructions here: http://droidviews.com/2013/how-to-unbrick-your-bricked-samsung-galaxy-s4-gt-i9500-gt-i9505/ to get my phone back.
I repartitioned with the pit file in those instructions and tried to flash a MDK build, which didn't do anything. Then I wised up and tried the ME7 build. It also didn't work. The phone would still only show the screen with the unlocked Custom logo and then it would turn off. I could still only get into Download mode.
I also tried the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259, which got me a little further at one point, where I could hear the boot up sound and it would get stuck on the white screen with the Verizon logo. After doing that once and rebooting it is back to just showing the unlocked Custom logo and turning off again.
Is there anything else I can try? I've searched and searched the forums and I'm coming up empty now.

Soft brick can ALWAYS be fixed by reflashing stock ROM. Find the stock ROM and put it on ur device (in CW recovery is mount USB-OGT while plugged into ur computer). Flash it after you WIPE the device. Then reboot. Thumbs up if this helped!
Also a tip is DONT FUDGE AROUND WITH THE DEVICE. If its bricked, the device can be recovered. But if you do random attempts it will cause other problems. That's from experience. Hard bricked my friends Galaxy S cause I kept on flashing **** on it. Root on!

Just make sure you Odin ME7 stock ..you cant go to the older firmware..

Do you remember what build number are you on? MDK, ME7, ML1 Or MJ7? You can odin back accordingly and it should restore everything to factory image.

That is the bad part I do not remember. The ones I have tried that are the factory ones do not work with the same issues.
so i was planning on turning in my note 2 tomorrow to get a new phone...so i wanted to put the stock image back on it...went back to 4.1.2, no problem. then it updates to 4.3 and it's stuck in bootloop...just shows the "note 2" logo...i can't get into the volume up + power + home to erase the cache...it won't even get to that screen...all i can do is get into the odin menu...i have reloaded 4.3 about 6 times, trying different combinations of partitioning and not partitioning, neither works.
if i choose the "nand erase all" box...am i just asking for trouble? i've been messing with this for about 5 hours now...any help is greatly appreciated, i tried googling for at least 2 hours but i can't find anyone that has this specific issue...
also, i've tried using kies, it won't recognize the phone...i can't do the one where you put in the model number, says my phone can't initialize the update...grr...

just tried to put cwm on it...odin won't let it work...says "nand write start"...then says "fail!"...could it be because i "think" it's on 4.3 now? there's a message that says "knox warranty void: 0"...i think that's a new thing on 4.3...?
i'm about to just smash it and squaretrade warranty it lol

That would be correct.. You are on a 4.3 bootloader
You need to flash via odin..MJ9 Kies tar.. Also use the pit when flashing

Recovery meaning stock recovery? Bc your on 4.3 bootloader so you won't be able to have a custom recovery unless on safe strap.. see if you have stock recovery and do a factory reset once Odin goes though fine

yup, exactly right. pretty close to giving up here but that's ok...i can just break it. i've already traded in another phone...got myself an m8...
thanks anyways.
After my grand daughter got my SCH-i650 into TWRP recovery mode and then proceeded to really (&#$^@# it up, needless to say it was totally screwed. My fault though. I ended up flashing with odin back to stock and used the MJ9 4.3 version.I didn't know that the boot loader was locked up tight on this one so I am stuck with it. I rooted, then put the new safe strap on it and got stuck in a splash screen. I could hear messages coming through but my screen was locked. Long story short, what finally worked was what you all said to do in this thread and then stock recovery and factory reset. At least I have my phone back. I really miss Alliance and Trent's rom but glad to at least have my phone working. Thank you all for all the help and suggestions.
So, recently I rooted my GS4 SCH-I545 and wanted to install a custom rom. I installed ROM Manager and tried to install a custom recovery, but overtime I would go into recovery, it would show a dying android with the message "No Command" on the screen, then It would take me to the stock recovery.
-------------------------------------------------------
Later I downloaded TWRP Manager and looked for a custom recovery there. I found one that seemed right and downloaded it. It rebooted my phone and instead of taking me to recovery mode, it took me to the ODIN downloading screen, but on top it said, "COULD NOT DO A NORMAL BOOT" and it said Downloading. The only way to get onto the phone was for me to go to ODIN and flash OC1 firmware onto the phone, and then it would boot up. Otherwise, now I cannot do a factory reset, and/or go into recovery mode.
Is there any possible solutions on how to get the phone back to normal?

BTW: My Baseband or Boot-loader is: I545VRUGOF1

Ok then, but I have a few questions. First, what will this do to my phone? My next question is, will this brick my phone? Lastly, do I download the TAR, click the AP button on ODIN, click the TAR file, then flash it to my Phone?
---By the way, can you give me a link to the OF1 tar?
I have the OF1 ".tar.md5", also I can get you back to running prefect stock, then guide you thru the right steps to root and fix up your device!
