[Q] Motorola moto e battery charging time - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how much time does your moto e takes to get fully charged? mine takes almost 3 hours. is it normal?

My handset takes near about 2 hrs, max to max 2hrs 15 min...not more than that.

Bro it will depend on charger output. For example Indian Moto E comes with 550 mA charger which will charge from 0 to 100 in about 3 and a half hours.

In Brazil comes with 850mA

mine takes around 3 hours with the charger in box (550 mA) and takes around 2 hours with 750mA charger.

I am really surprise to see the charging time given here. I actually use my previous Samsung charger and it is take only max 1:15hrs to charge from 10% to 100%.

really?
@ sd2007, how much mA is your Samsung charger?

^^ Didn't find any mA written on that. Only I find input ac100-240v 50/60hz 0.12A. Hope it wud help u..

By using a charger of 0.12 A = 120mA it should take a hell lot of time to charge completely.
My idea is that your charger must be of 1.2 A, because Moto E doesn't support chargers less than the output 500 mA. Only chargers with output 500mA to 2.0 A is supported..

Rly that long?
My Motorola is from UK... idk how much this version of Moto e cane take
But i have here 2 chargers... 1.2 A and 2A that i get from my Nexus 10. With that 2A i can charge about 1% in 1 minute. With that 1.2 A i takes 2 min. to charge 1%
But it really depends on environment. If i have Airplane mode turned on, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth turned off and brightness on the lowest and i am not using phone till charging, I can charge about 30% in 15 min

1hr 30 min to complete. HTC charger.

Hello.
Mine's takes 2h - 2h30 with a galaxy s2 charger

Ho to get the charge percentage next to battery icon, in top right corner??

I always use powerUSB of my Ultrabook for charging and it takes about 75-80 minutes to charge my Moto E

1 to 1 hr 15 min to full charge, from Motorola stock charger without using anything. Means with aeroplane mode on.
But while using normally messaging, browsing and other stuff, it takes around 2 hrs to 2 hrs 20 min....

I've been wondering the same thing, the charger from mine takes like 5 hours. It's horrible and the battery barely lasts the day. Is this normal, the phone was brand new and I've had it about 3 weeks.

Ebay 3500 Mah extended battery

Well I received my set of ebay batteries last night. I ordered 4 of then which came with 2 external chargers all for around $44. I charged all of them with the external chargers. My reference point for battery life is as follows -- BT on, mobile on with no active surfing, all other radios off (4g and GPS ). My testing for battery life is real simple. It is to see how long of a voice call I can make before the phone dies.
Here are my results
Stock -- 6 hr 20 min
1850 mah -- 4 hrs 50 min I peeled the sticker it said 1000 underneath, I am guessing its more like a 1300 than a 1000. I have 3 of these and they are the one's with the red, yellow, and white sticker.
Extended 3500 mah -- 10 hrs 20 min these are ones with the generic black and white sticker
My initial conclusion is as follows. I believe that the 1850 mah are around 1300 mah only and that the ebay extended 3500 mah are just double that meaning that it is only probably around 2500 to 2700 mah. I am happy with the extra 4 hrs of talk time that the 3500 gives me. I drive a cab and I am on the phone conferenced in with several other drivers so I do use my phone alot. I also have an OG evo which I use to tether my laptop in my vehicle.
The ROM I used was Viper's ROM.

I think the OP was referencing talk time only. 10 hours of talk time is pretty good for a cheap extended battery. Stock battery is rated at about 7.5 hours talk time.

correct -- stock claims up to 7.5 hrs talk time
my 6 hrs plus on stock was with BT on, 3G on (no surfing) on a custom rom
again 10 hrs plus of straight talk time is pretty good. think about all those crappy cell phones that you had a few yrs ago that would die after a 2 to 3 hr convo lol

It does charge slowly if you keep the screen on and use its multimedia functions, as I suspect the drain is substantial, but if simply on standby, mine charges reasonably quickly.

Ya, mine no longer charges from PC USB when PC is sleeping. When PC is awake the charging is way too slow. My old HD2 could charge fine from PC and this saves me from having to plug in its dedicated charger to power socket.
Hmm, im reading that most of you get a full charge, from 0%, in just about 1 hour. Mine is taking 2 hours, why is that? I've had the phone for a week.

I believe you can pull from 100 to 400 mA from the USB port on a computer.
And the wall charger should put out at least double that. So ofcourse a charge will be slower when you can't pump as much juice into the battery as you can with a dedicated wall charger.
You can on some mainboards let the USB ports stay alive while the rest of the system is a sleep. But sure it's only logical that when you put your computer to sleep, so will the USB ports.
HD2 is able to get charged through USB when PC is asleep, but not XS. For those who're interested.

Moto E battery life

Hello all forum members,
i have recently bought a moto e and been using it for over a week now. the mobile has been performing very well. however recently i noticed that the battery life for my moto e is coming to around less than 1 day. For instance yesterday i had taken it completely charged in morning around 7 am from house. i did not charge it through the day. it had mobile data on through the day.background applications were running like the updates, location, emails etc which are usually on. at home i have wi fi and used it along with a small time of playing games (may be half to one hr). by the time i had gone to rest, the battery was around 13 percent and phone was dead when i got up.
so it lost around 87% charge in 14-15 hours.
is this normal time to expect on battery? i read people claiming more than 1 day with normal usage.
please help me out with this as i am concerned whether to return the phone or get a replacement.
thank you,
Tarun

I am getting a SOT of (mostly indoor use):
1- Only 2g all day - 5.5+ hours
2- 2g and Wifi(wifi mainly used) all day- 6.5+ hours
3-Only wifi all- 7+ hours
And a average standby time of around 24 hours with that SOT
I am not a intensive gamer, my usage pattern includes mainly using messaging services, watching videos on youtube, listening to music.
Snapshots of battery life
i am attaching the two screenshots i took yesterday. i have tried calibrating my battery as what Matt has suggested on motorola forums for moto-g.
discharged the phone completely, charged it to 100% without turning it on. kept at 100% for 4 more hours, removed from charger, turned it on for 3-5 mins, then put it off and charged it again for 1 hour. repeated this cycle for 1 more time.
after this calibration even, i am getting a low usable battery life i think. 13 hours to 5% charge. during the last few hours (around 2-3 hours) i was chatting on whatsapp and listening to FM radio, so the screen was on as shown, other services were on like location, mobile data, auto brightness.
can anyone tell me if this is normal?, people are claiming a battery life of more than 1 day. now i am getting really worried.

Whats your current charge mA?

Hello I made this thread so people could post their charging mA with the fast charge, Im getting around 960-1010 mA charge while my phone is plugged... I think my result is kinda low for a fast charge charger, I used my Galaxy Tab S charger on my Nexus 5 and I could get up to 1400 mA! And thats with the "old" snapdragon 800 quick charge, also, it charges much faster than my S6 with only 300 or 400 mAh less capacity than the S6...
What is your current charge mA? You can use Ampere or type current charge in the play store to see how fast your phone charges! Compare with others and see if theres something wrong with your charger or battery.
Sorry about my english I learned it through MMOs.

I also use Ampere and with the fast charger it shows about 2700mA charge, but I heard somewhere that the fast charging only works when the screen is off, so you might possibly be getting a lower charge because you are using the phone while charging it, when using the fast charge I don't use my phone at all. You might ask them how am I able to even see the charge if I don't even use my phone? I turne the notification settings on the pro version of ampere so it shows the charge on my lockscreen always

Uhm I'll first have to test that, and about the lower charge from 82 to 100, it is normal because with the Adaptive Fast Charging you get a high charge initially and towards the end it lowers, that is how it's supposed to work in order to charge the battery properly

If you can charge from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes. Then it is working fine. It charges much slower after that percentage to protect the battery and etc. It's normal for all fast charging capable phones.

The power supply would not be anywhere near 100% efficient, so what it is taking AC is going to be close to double what it is giving to the phone.

Yes, it actually is near 100% efficient. You're saying it's only about 50% efficient which is an absurd unsupported statement. My Pixel XL reads 18W~ just like this when it charges from 0% - does that mean it's not charging at 9V/2A? No, it's definitely charging at 9V/2A.

Except they don't hardly work worth a damn. Almost none of them work with QuickCharge, and none of them work with type C or power delivery.
Absurd? I did some quick googling to try to find the efficiency of a switch mode supply, it definitely isn't 100% so I decided to make it easy for the o.p. and give a 50% example.

not sure what device you speak of, but I'm talking about wattage energy monitors and all my watt meters work with me note 7 as they should... qc just means higher voltage and current, nothing fancy, and so it does show 9v @1.8A or so which is what its meant to do anyways.
Cmon people use some common sense.
The battery has a nominal voltage of around 4.4v fully charged. It has a capacity of 3500mAh.
These means a charge current of 3.5A is a charge rate of 1C which is fine. Even a charge rate of 7A would only be 2C.
As for the 9v, I GURANTEE there are some losses. It would have to convert 9v to 3-4.4ishV depending on charge current.
Let's say the battery is low and it's charging @ 3.5v or so as first part of the typical CC / CV charge cycle.
This means a constant current of X with a variable voltage which early on might only be let's say 3.5v on the voltage curve early on.
Watts = Voltage(Current)
18 = 3.5X
X= 18/3.5
X=5.14
So 5.14 Amps @ 3.5v would be going into the battery during this early on fast charge.
With a capacity of a whopping 3.5Ah, a charge current of 5.14Ah means a charge rating of 1.47C
Now remember, there are some losses from the conversion too.
So under 1.47 (probably under 1.3-1.4 with energy losses) C rating seems normal.
Personally, I wouldn't exceed 1C which is why I disable fast charge.

Please read my post above. It is NOT charging at 9V. Feeding 9V into a lithium battery would make it explode.
It is being converted using some DC-DC converter so the battery gets fed around 3.something to 4.4v during the CC/CV charge curve.

Absurd? I did some quick googling to try to find the efficiency of a switch mode supply, it definitely isn't 100% so I decided to make it easy for the o.p. and give a 50% example.

It's probably about 95% efficient actually, which is pretty close to 100% in my book.
There's inefficiency in the battery however, since the phone gets warm when charging, right? And warm = energy being dissipated as heat. i.e. you have to put more than 3500 mAh in, in order to fully charge a 3500 mAh battery.
