Busy making an FTF from my country's (South Africa) 402 firmware.
If I go into my phone's Service Info --> Software Info, it says "GENERIC - user".
Is THIS what I type as "branding" when creating an FTF?

Yes.
Most usually naming is 17.1.A.2.402 South Africa Generic - customisation number

Also indicate your customization version when you release the FTF. It's under Service Info -> Software Info -> Customization Version (not the one under Phone Software Version).

hi all, i checked in samfit and my pda version is I9100ZSKF4 but then my baseband is I9100XXKE4...so in which region does my phone belongs to? should i go for asia or europe?
ZS is dedicated Hong Kong firmware I think. Like DD in India.
Regards.
Baseband is your modem .
That may be an earlier modem than current firmware in many cases .
jje
so i guess i can flash both europe or asia official firmware?
You can flash any firmware you want, but that could change your CSC's region
Hello
In South Africa we are up to 2.3.4 as being our latest firmware update available via Kies. In the official roms I see other countries go up to 2.3.6.
Now from what I have seen I am going to go and assume that the different regions differences are for optimal workings for the modem, gps information, CSC and the like.
The firmware I am currently using was taken from the post by Infratech
PDA:XWKI4
PHONE: XXKI1
Date: 14/09/2011
Android 2.3.4
OJC (XFA, XFC, XFE, XFM, XFV) (South Africa) *I am using XFM
Now how do I tell what firmware that doesnt match say phone and/or PDA would work best, I've seen mention of "choosing the closest number" but thats vague to me. I would prefer my phone to be using firmware of a place that actually gets regular updates but not at the expense of phone performance/compatability.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Please note I'm not asking for blind "use this" answers but trying to actually get an understanding so that I know how it works.
The only way you can tell is by using or having recommends from other local users for the modem/baseband .
CSC is country specific but is only a list of local network settings and they can be entered manually .
Thats it Kernels are interchangeable as is firmware .
Only check is that a firmware supports the language you require .
If you want only official updates via Kies then you stick with Kies and flash no other firmware .
Samsung release firmware its sent to the network /phone providers they decide if and when or not to update .
Generally the stock European firmware is more than likely to be available for later versions .
Flash say UK stock firmware 2.3.6 with a change of modem if you find one better in SA and likewise a change of CSC to your country .

This fake and its not working
Can anybody help me to identify which firware is this and where is this from?? I brought it from Dubai but in order to root it, i cant find this firmware in any of the XDA forums.
AP: I9300XXALF5
CP: I9300XXLF5
CSC: I9300EURALE3
You don't need to know what firmware it is to root it. Just follow the stickies in the development section by flashing recovery with odin, then a rooted rom.
Also make sure your phone model number is GT-I9300. If it's not, you don't have the international version.
You can use Chainfire's CF-root, regardless of the firmware version,

Connect to the Keis, then check your firmware version,
see the code given after the CSC in the bracket is your region,
eg: PDA:LE9 / PHONE:LE8 / CSC:LE9 (XSG)
XSG is the code for UAE,
I think you have purchased the phone from an unautharized dealer, normally the phones (SGS3) shipped in the Middle East are with the above mentioned version as my phone has got.

Thanks for your help. Yes, the phone is not from an authorized dealer. Kies says the firmware as:
PDA:LF5 /PHONE:LF5/ CSC:LE3 (EUR)

I'm noob, and i don't know witch is the stock original firmware.
How can i find?
Go to sammobile and look for your phone model and country, download the latest stock rom for your country. You don't need the original firmware.
I searched. But i didn't found. My box is writen in france. I think it's from france. I live in romania
It unbranded.

Alternately, you can use kies.
Without connecting your phone:
1) Go to emergency firmware recovery
2) Type in your model number
3) Type in your serial number
After that it will tell you the latest stock firmware for your phone.

True but he doesn't NEED that firmware to be covered by warranty. Having firmware in the wrong language would be detrimental. Suggest latest romanian unbranded

How can I find out what was my original firmware when I bought the phone. I flashed MG4, the latest one for S3 but KIES claims that my current firmware version is not supported to update via KIES. I saw somewhere that you can restore it with the help of S/N but can't understand how.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
GT-I9300 and your country. If you had unbranded version then it's unbranded, if not select proper branded one.
There's no other way to determine what you have, especially if you overwrited bootloader with other pure-stock flashed via Odin.

you can find it via kies.. for that :
1. switch off your phone, pullup the battery and note the serial no.(no mistake should be made)
1. Open kies and than go to Tools>>Firmware Upgrade and Initialization in kies.( you don't even have to connect your phone to do this)
2. Enter the model no as: GT-I9300 (no mistake should be made, everything should be in capital letters, you can copy this one)
3. It will ask you for S/N (serial no.), enter the one you noted in first step.
Thats it, it will tell you the CSC code(country code) and other informations(i have attached screenshot of mine), the one inside bracket like in my screenshot TTT is the country code. Than you can check in Sammobile for the the firmware and find out the original firmware which was when you bought the phone.

I tried it. But it still gave me MG4 CSC, PHONE and PDA. After flashing it I got LaFleur boot logos and LaFleur wallpapers. That's strange since my phone is not White but Grey.

So did you checked for country code in sammobile, what older firmware are listed there?
My country isn't listed there somehow. As I remember when I connected my device via kies the day I bought it the csc was BTU or something that starts with B. Tho PDA was different.
Can't find my country there. Also my phone is Unbranded
Why don't you try flashing the MG4 one from kies, maybe it detects then... and can you tell your CSC code??

Check my product code is GT-I9300TADCOA , It's Tele2 from Croatia and I bought the phone from Tele2. So it think that's it.
- EDIT -
No use, still not recognized in Kies. Also the TELE2 firmware from Croatia (GT-I9300RWATWO) is a mismatch to mine GT-I93000TADCOA. And I can't find SEB firmware at Sammobile. Could you link it to me?
