Ive had many "not registered" errors when trying to place a calls over WiFi and called in for support to TMo many times. The third week and the fourth or fifth "PDA" service guy went all out and then gave up and turned me over to "Loyalty". Its like getting switched to the inquisition. THEY told me, 'bad news' Vibrant can't make calls over WiFi. SO I confessed it only worked 50% of the time.
When I agreed to take the phone, TMo said it would support UMA. In the mean time I think they decided they would not support UMA. I can call TMo phone mail no problem and the phone rings and then disconnects. It will make a call from "voice" but shows the not registered error when I dial a number. It has to be TMo router settings. They offered to send me a 3G Curve which they said would support UMA telephony, but they had no other phones - oh yah maybe the "Shaddow" was available but even they wouldn't go so far. I'm SOOOO sick of RIM, really, really sick. So I rejected that. So now I'm making calls and receiving calls over WiFi, but not reliably and with no support.
I'm fairly certain this is the tip of the big iceberg. My Vibrant was very early pre-purchase, so it might not have had all the TMo down mods. Never the less, it seems crazy that I would pay them to use my own DSL/WiFi as I seem to be doing with my HTC Incredible/Verizon phone. It works great, but of course I pay.
TMo gave me some questionable information regarding using Vonage, which I found does is not suposed to work with the Vibrant. They also said no Android phone will work with TMo hot spots, which I am inclined to accept. It appears all the carriers will do anything to keep a branded hand set off of free WiFi telephony. So I'm trying Google Voice. It registers, but I have so far not recieved a call to my new Gvoice phone number.
Do I need to root the phone? Are there apps that will help? Does any one out there think the 2.2 upgrade with the TMo holy water has a ghost of a chance of making WiFi phone calls without a TMo charge? My Incredible/Verizon still tethers on PDA-net and I think that is not charged. But I'm not clear on that either.
I just pre-bought a Tab through Cell Phone Hut. I will see if a device free of TMo tweeks will route telephony over WiFi. All I really need is a cheep pre-paid SIMS card for OTA. It's nuts thinking to pay 3G or 4G OTA data rates when the same data is free over WiFi. There will be many Android apps to do all your data I/O when you are in range.
cheers all... thx for any light on this!
Umm what? You're able to make calls on wifi 50% Of the time. You can make Google voice calls over wifi? You were told the vibrant would have uma? ?? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but....
Google voice is NOT a voip service so i think you're misjudging its use.
Vibrant was never said to have wifi calling, just like every other android.
An app called kineto was recently announced that does wifi calling but its not uma. it doesn't hand off to cell network. Its announced to be available for the new mytouch n moto defy.
Also, tmo uma will no longer give you 'free calling'. It takes from your minutes so its only real advantage is to extend coverage.

The Vibrant hasn't been confirmed to ever get Wifi calling but it was demo'ed on a Vibrant running 2.2. The feature could possibly be added to the vibrant once it receives the 2.2 update.
This is strange. We've had our vibrants about a week. When I'm home I have the Wifi turned on. The signal bars drop to zero. I have just assumed that my voice calls were going over Wifi to our DSL modem over the Internet.
Note: We happen to have a T-Mo wireless router from back in the days when we were using it with our Blackberries to keep the minutes down. Subsequently T-Mo switched us to an unlimited plan, but we still use this router for one hard-wired home line.

Signal bars dropping to zero is just a visual indicator; doesn't necessarily mean there is zero signal, just not enough signal to flip the visual indicator. This happens to me quite a lot - I have no signal, but someone calls me and the call quality is fine.
In any case - basic logical fallacy - correlation does not necessarily imply correlation. Although it would be super nice to make calls over wifi!
<------ Tmo Retail Rep
There is no Android phone that supports UMA at the moment. The only Android that will have UMA that has been announced so far is the myTouch HD. Not sure why someone would tell you the Vibrant has the feature.
Not only that, 0 bars doesn't mean no service. The circle with a slash means no service

Where was it ever said that the Vibrant would have UMA? Its one thing if a rep was mistaken but no slick, ad, spec sheet, or anything else that I recall ever implied that UMA was going to be available. I came from a Blackberry to the Vibrant so I felt I was aware that UMA was not available.
UMA in Android NOT
Apparently Android has no UMA support, but a lot of people want it:
Check out Issue 6242 - Google's board for android code / issues.
I am thinking about moving to vibrant and tmobile. the only thing that is stopping me is the lack of uma support on the vibrant. Does anyone know whether this is capability will be added with the 2.2 update??
Have you guys not tried any of the new leaked froyo roms? They all have wifi calling and it works, although its not uma and doesn't hand off it works great. This is actually a Godsend for I have had Tmobile for 7 years and I get no service in my house, finally a solution. I'm not sure this will be released in the upcoming froyo update or it was just pulled from the Mytouch4g and they made it work for our phones.
Hey everyone, I'm currently in the Air Force and I'm getting stationed in Germany. And due to that I'm going to be freezing my Verizon account till I get back.
Now I really love this phone, and I'd like to keep using it; however, will I be out of luck without an actual service plan? I'm not talking about running it without a data plan. I mean actually no service whatsoever other than the Wifi.
Can it be done?
Can I has Wifi smartphone in Germany?
Thanks much beforehand for any help!

Umm, why couldn't you? Put the phone in airplane mode, turn wifi on/off as you please. Last I checked, the didn't ban Wifi in Europe or Germany (yet, the EU does stupid stuff sometimes)

Is it really that easy? Also, what might that limit as far as functionality of the phone other than just calls and texts?
Also, would I need to worry about accidentally turning off the Airplane mode and getting charged again, or does the phone just stop receiving service period?
Thanks much for the help and I'll feel kinds silly if it really was this easy ha.
If you froze your VZW account, you should stop receiving service entirely, and not have to worry about getting calls, 3G, etc. But I could be wrong about that, so if someone could confirm...
Also, does Germany even have CDMA towers? I thought the rest of the world was on GSM.

other countries use cdma (china and india have major carriers that do) and several others as well (peru, etc) if you go to verizon's international travel coverage you can actually see (or used to anyway) what country had what type of coverage and where on a map
however gsm is the major technology used worldwide...i dont have figures handy, but id guess its like 85/15 or something split wise
with emerging lte adoption though at some point in the future id imagine things becoming more unified...or even further split as many carriers may stick with hdspa+ rather than spend the money on lte infrastructure...who knows
i have an epic 4g that has no sevice at all and my kids use it as an ipod with
wifi work great text also as long as u have wifi.
ps i got the phone from a buddy that could not pay a bill for two phone so he suspended the line.
If you deactivate your service, the phone will attempt to connect, but won't be able to. I doubt many overseas carriers would allow data usage for roaming anyway even if airplane mode did get turned off, I'd think they probably only allow calls/texts.
Airplane mode (to save battery from frivolous radio connection attempts) + wifi. You're good.
No cdma in Germany, so no network to connect to to begin with. Verizon wont even let you use a phone in Europe without a special international roaming thing on your account anyways, so they certainly wont allow it to connect if you're suspended

I was in Germany about 3 weeks ago and I kept my phone in airplane mode and turned WIFI on and off when I wanted internet access. The problem was that I was not able to find any free WIFI - hotel, Starbuck's, etc. all charged a fee. Getting on the internet was not worth the going rate of 5 euros an hour. Your experience may be different; however, except in housing it's unlikely that you will find WIFI on base.
In the past I used an old droid as a portable device around the house. I never enabled airplane mode. I even took it on a trip with me for a media device. I got stranded in TX via buddy pass. I had to take a 27 hour bus trip home. My regular phone died. I couldn't charge the battery on the bus. So I used the droid to call Verizon to turn it on. And then turned it back off when I got home. I never had any issues with getting a data charge on my plan when I was using it as a portable. If it's deactivated in their computers I don't see how it would connect to a phone service.
I assume() that this would be the same with the Fascinate. The Fascinate is nothing more than a small handheld computer that make phone calls. Turn off the phone service and it should continue to do everything else as normal.
I would look into getting a skype account. It may even have some type of free package. You could try to make wifi calls in a pinch. I have no experience with that, but it seems like it would work. I don't know how much it would cost.
I am getting ready to make the jump from Verizon to AT&T and I am taking my DNA with me. I have done the research and I know that the DNA does not have AT&T's LTE bands, but does support HSPA. I know many of you are happy with your DNA on ATT, but I am curious to know about your general experience when you switched over to ATT, especially in areas like signal strength. For me, the HSPA network in my area uses much higher frequencies than Verizon's 700mhz LTE, so I am concerned about the propagation of the signals since towers in my area tend to be farther apart. Any thoughts, comments, and observations are appreciated! Thanks.

Thats a good question, and there are a lot of reasons. We just got a Nexus 5 for my wife, and with my corp discount, that puts us at $115 for two smart phones w/10GBs of data. That is with AT&T's new shared value plans and no contract, and Verizon has chosen not to be competitive and semi-open like AT&T. I have only used Verizon because of their superior network, but have never liked the company or their poor CS. AT&T has been improving their network a lot in my area and is now competitive with Verizon here. I also like the apparent industry trend toward elimination of subsidized phones on contract. I am looking forward to watching the free-market kick in as the manufacturers duke it out to see who can deliver the best device for the most reasonable price. Anyway, kinda off-topic, but I hope that at least partially answers your question.:highfive:
you wont get OTA updates, thats about the only negative i can think of besides no LTE.
i used my DNA on att for a while but with no data($10 add-on line),I did pop in an att sim that had data and tested the speed with the speedtest.net app,it was around 8-9mb down which isnt bad for the area im in (NE Ohio).

Thanks. How was the call quality/clarity?
Wondering if ever 100% working APN's were ever found to use the DNA on AT&T. I just searched again and found some settings old older threads but none worked quite right. Calls are fine, texts are fine, just MMS only ever gives a download box that never works. I tried several APN's I found.
I moved on from the DNA a while back (missed it), but got another recently from Craigslist to keep as a backup phone. It's a bit beat up, this poor phone is scratched up, small crack on glass in upper right corner. Previous owner didn't treat it well but is completely bone stock (and plan to keep it that way).
Just in case you wonder, I am switching over to Verizon from AT&T. Still have two lines on AT&T under contract till early/mid 2015. I want the DNA to serve as a backup in case any other phones I use with normal service (either AT&T or Verizon) get broken, lost, or otherwise not working. Yeah it's a shame to relegate the DNA to that duty as I love the size of the phone and it was my first 1080p screen on a phone.

Yes, Verizon has LTE coverage nearly everywhere. If you go into one of their stores just look at that map comparing LTE coverage between them and the other 3 carriers.
Found out the APN setting for MMS may only work on 3rd party MMS clients. On the main phone I use now on Verizon, a G2, I use Google Hangouts for all SMS/MMS, going to try that with the APN settings listed for the DNA on AT&T

I use Hangouts as well, let me know!
No real luck getting Hangouts to work for MMS either. Put like 4 different MMS settings into either the DNA settings itself or the Hangouts apps settings for MMS. Just gives me a cannot download type message. I gave up on it.
Only other oddity is the signal type indicators change often. The H and 3G keep flipping back and forth. It'll be on H for 5 seconds, move to 3G for 4-6 seconds then go back. Sometimes it stays on one for a bit longer.

Hopefully one of those two solutions will work for you. I also read that with some roms, MMS just wont work. Viper was one of the ones mentioned, but that was an older version.
At times, when I am using wifi calling, the incoming call directly goes to voice mail. I don't get the ring. This has happened to me more than a couple of times.
Out going calls are working fine, even when incoming calls are directed to voice mail. Incoming calls work after I turn off and turn on wifi.
Tmobile signal is very weak in my apartment and I rely on wifi calling to make/receive calls.
I am wondering if this is issue with my phone only..
Is any one else facing this issue?
I hope there is a fix for this issue..
It happened to me sometimes in the past (sgs4) and I think also one time with the sgs5.
How is your Wi-Fi signal? It might be that you are losing Wi-Fi from time to time and as a result you are being de-register from the T-Mobile network (and the incoming call is being diverted to voicemail).
Maybe try to keep the phone in a very good Wi-Fi coverage area for few hours, make some incoming test calls and see how it works?

I have the same problem. I turned on WiFi calling and my Son called from across the table and my phone never rang. Three times he tried and all three time it went to voicemail. In my case I figured it out. "conditional forwarding" was somehow turned on with the device. I didn't do it, and when I called t-mobile they turned it off, and it works fine. Doing the ##004# didn't clear it t-mobile had to do it in the provisioning profile.

have you found anything out about this issue yet ?
i have bought a new s5 and have same issue, no incoming calls unless i turn wifi off, then it works fine
sim card has been replaced, samsung have even replaced handset and exactly same occurs
i have turned off 4g so its only on 3g/2g
the network have turned off all call barring etc settings
if i put my sim in my old S3 it works flawless, if i put my wifes sim in my s5 it also works flawless
network or samsung cant work it out, its been factory reset like 6 times now its driving me mad
thanks Richard
Though I've only had the S5 (4 of them) for about a week, incoming calls usually work. There was one time in the past week where my wife's phone went to voicemail immediately (called 3 times, 3 times into VM). When I came home, I toggled wifi calling off and on, then it worked fine. Has been fine since.
Wifi signal at the time was as strong as can be.
Hopefully future firmware updates will make it more solid.
I have the same problem, come on Samsung, we need a fix, I am still in the first 14 days of my contract and have requested a replacement handset.
I don't get text when wifi calling is enabled. Just started happening to me after the NF6 upgrade. TMO said they have many people with the new update that this is being reported and might have it fixed in a day or two.
^^^ I thought that I was the only one having this problem. As it just started after doing the NF6 update. Wifi calling and texting has been real erratic, especially texts. If I restart the phone or switch airplane mode to off then back on texts go crazy for a little bit and then stops working again.

Has anyone found a fix for this? It just started happening again to me. Last time I was told need to shut off qifi calling first then, wifi when leaving the area of my wifi (home) worked for awhile, then recently found out I'm not getting calls again. Texts seem to work on I think, but not calls. Wifi calling is a must for me as tmobile signal is low in my house
Just got off the phone with tmobile apparently my "wifi" calling "provision" was not turned on my line. We'll see if it fixes the issue, we'll see. Just an FYI for people who still encounter this issue, might be worth the try

I started having this issue about 2 weeks ago. Its not restricted to texting, but both texting and calling. I bought the S5 back in February and had no problems when connected to Wifi at home. At times my connection would be over 10 hours, I could call, receive calls, text, surf no issues. After the slew of updates I started noticing that calls going to VM even though I was connected to the WiFi. No call would show up in the caller logs.
It was intermittent, and therefore escaped my attention. But recently the issue is more consistent. Following is a summary of what occurs:
1 - When Wi fi is enabled and connected and i try to make a call, they call goes through but immediately disconnects
2 - When Wi fi is enabled and I try to call it from another phone the call goes straight to VM
3 - When Wi fi is enabled and a friend texts me, the text does not show up
4 - In the rare instance when Wi fi is enabled and I do manage to call out the call will disconnect after about 5 minutes
5 - I am able to surf and receive and send emails over wifi
Essentially this $700+ phone has just become a pricey laptop. I did call T-Mobile Tech support, and after an hour on the phone they issued a ticket that pushes the issue up to the engineers. Still waiting to hear from them.

I have almost all the issues you listed above, and the only fix is to soft rest my phone every time i get home, then i call 611 to make sure my wifi calling is working.
I've been talking to tmobile for months, and before it seemed ok, then all of a sudden not "constantly" not working.
They "told" you an engineer is working on it...NO THEY ARE NOT.
My ticket sat in a queue from Sunday to Thursday because they are backed up.
If they tell you they will call you back,....no they wont.
I've gone through two "supervisors" supposedly, and still no resolution.
Supposed to get a call back from the 2nd one who is a higher person and/or "engineer" with a resolution....i'm not holding my breath.
They've lost all credibility with me and i will need to see some action in order for them to gain it back. Being with them for 13 years, when it was called Voicestream back then, and all i get is the run-around and more excuses to by themselves more time? That piss-poor customer service.
If 3 people have to ask me if my firmware up-to-date, WTH is the point of telling me you noted my account? Apparently the last person didn't of you didn't bother reading the notes after putting me on hold to say your're reviewing the notes on my account.
Sorry for the long rant, but short story, take what they tell you with a grain of salt and follow up with them daily if you want this issue fixed.

Wow! The 611 rep told me that they have not heard of this problem before. After the call I googled and came up with several hits dating back to 2013. This has been a problem in previous versions, but it was not a problem on the first S5, just the updates killed it.

LOL i'm not surprised. It's really sad, supposedly it's a known issue, from what some reps have told me before.
All they are doing is buying themselves times.
You should tell them to log onto a forum while your on the phone and/or do a google search and tell me it's still tell me they have not heard of the problem before.
MAYBE the "rep" never heard of it, but it should be all over their intranet or notes.
They told me, thats what some of release updates have been about.
I got the phone on launch day and already 2 firmware updates.
I could go on and on about the BS, but it's frustrating to bring up. Not sure how you feel, but for a $700+ phone, i want it to work without me having to reset for a feature that TMOBILE prides itself on.
i'll report back what they tell me. good luck to us both, we're going to need it.
I'm on sprint and have had my edge Since 4/8. I never used to drop calls on any of my various phones on sprint in the past 10 years. I drop almost every call that lasts more than 5 minutes now. I've noticed it's particularly bad while driving so maybe it's a tower handoff issue.
Anyone else notice increased dropped calls on sprint or any of the networks with their s6?
I have the same problem with the edgeless s6. definitely a bigger problem while driving and never happened with my moto x.

Does the Sprint version use VOLTE?
i am also dropping calls. In an area with 5 bars when on a call and not even moving when the drop calls occurred. I noticed while on a call my bars drop from 5 bars to 1 or non. It is not normal as iPhone 6 or S5 are not having issues at same location.

I'm not sure if they do. I'm frequently on HD voice but I thought they used a different format for than voLTE for their hd voice.

Are all the devices you mentioned on sprint as well?
I'm trying to figure out if it's a carrier specific issue or if the device is having these issues across all carriers.

Our S6 is on Sprint. No drop calls with S5 or iPhone 6. Haven't seen drops calls for over two years since Network Vision started.
Had the same issues with Tmobile Edge...calls cut off especially when driving but generally anytime after 3-4 minutes...I returned it to tmobile...went back to my previous M8

It looks like they didn't fix the problem which started with the Note 4 Edge on Sprint. I was afraid the S6 was going to have the same problem and apparently it does. Google "Note edge dropped calls sprint"
I noticed during the drop calls I was on Sprint to Sprint call via HD voice. Cannot conclude yet, need to do more testing today on a call that is not a Sprint customer. Also, I am in ALU market, dropped calls in Las Vegas and San Diego.
I have been with Sprint x 3 years, really never had a problem. got the S6...EVERY single call dropps. it onlyhappens when i am driving but it is soo annoying. went to sprint who sent me to a tech....tech rebooted/hard booted my phone, updated the ?prl..still dropping calls.
Was going to switch to edfe 6..but they are having soo many problems as well. Wth..im sooooooooo fustrated.
I have had the S6 since Sunday, 05/03/15. I have been dropping calls whether at home or in the car, driving or sitting still. I am on Sprint and had an S4 for two years that rarely if ever had this issue, only in rural areas where anyone would have this issue. I had read about the difference in the antenna and the inability to switch networks smoothly (4G to 3G and back) while in motion. If that is the case, is a firmware fix that is coming once they identify the cause (according to Sprint forums) going to really make a difference? My wife has an S5 and has no such issues. I actually read on the Sprint forum, from the Sprint tech, that they user should return it within their 14 day window if they have concerns. Not exactly a rousing endorsement! I'll give it another week but now I have to figure out what new handset to get or bet on a fix and keep it! So frustrating!
I'm on AT&T, and have this problem. Driving down 95 from DC my calls will drop a couple times. I have two phones with me in the car, for work and personal. Both are on AT&T. The iPhone 6 plus, will show full signal strength when this happens, and I notice the S6 will completely lose signal for a few seconds, then regain full strength. I hate this, because everything else about the phone is great, no pink/yellow display, no scratches, bubbles, and great battery life.
I think its the fact that samsung is using a brand new LTE modem for the exynos chipset which is probably not yet optimized for NA. in the past snapdragon version we never had this problem.
I spoke to Samsung customer services about this to see if a fix is coming. As expected the rep denied any knowledge and suggested I return the phone.
Drop Call Problems
Hello, All,
I'm a new customer to Sprint and I purchase the galaxy s6 edge. I'm on day 13 and will be taking the phone back today. Since day one I have had a tremendous amount of drop calls. I called tech support each time for these incidents. I primary use my phone for work as well, so drop calls "cannot" happen; especially if I'm on a conference call. The last rep I spoke to yesterday said that out of the 12 days that I had the phone, I only had "1" day with 90% of coverage......which means no drop calls.......just "1" day out of 12 days. This is very bad. I absolutely love this phone and has gotten use to it's features....turning it back in is very disappointing, but I'm going to have to go with something else b/c it's obvious that these phones have a issue that Samsung or Sprint are not willing to deal with. I would feel more comfortable about keeping it if there were an article or message out there from either Samsung or Sprint saying they're looking into fixing the problem......but as of today 5/8/2015, nothing has been said. If you're reading this and wondering should you get the galaxy s6 or the edge, do yourself a favor and get another phone. I can say in my research the drop calls issue has been across the board with all carriers so it's safe to say that it's something dealing with the phone itself rather than the carriers.

I know how you feel. I boxed mine up to return today. Nice phone, the camera is the best I've ever seen, but if it doesn't function as a telephone properly its game over. Why couldn't they get this right? I've just taken delivery of an Honor 6 plus. Don't laugh! Its pretty dam good.
Just to add my bit, I own a int'l version and I live in India.
I am also facing a lot of call drops since the day I have bought my phone. I do not have LTE in my region and this thing happens on 3g as well. The network handoff is awful in my opinion as the calls are dropped frequently while driving. This thing never happened with my previous device. ?
I have a same problem, I'm on T-Mobile , daily getting 5-7 dropped calls, they're going to switch my sim card, lets see what happens next.
I have this same problem in the UK on the 3 network. I have had new simcardsx 3, Home Hub network booster, 2 new phones and still the problem persists.
I get constant dropped calls, poor sound quality calls and many missed calls without missed call notifications.
If i switch back to my old Note 3 with same network I have no problems.
Answer = definately the S6 phone thats at fault.
