Increased Dropped Calls - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on sprint and have had my edge Since 4/8. I never used to drop calls on any of my various phones on sprint in the past 10 years. I drop almost every call that lasts more than 5 minutes now. I've noticed it's particularly bad while driving so maybe it's a tower handoff issue.
Anyone else notice increased dropped calls on sprint or any of the networks with their s6?

I have the same problem with the edgeless s6. definitely a bigger problem while driving and never happened with my moto x.

Does the Sprint version use VOLTE?

i am also dropping calls. In an area with 5 bars when on a call and not even moving when the drop calls occurred. I noticed while on a call my bars drop from 5 bars to 1 or non. It is not normal as iPhone 6 or S5 are not having issues at same location.

I'm not sure if they do. I'm frequently on HD voice but I thought they used a different format for than voLTE for their hd voice.

Are all the devices you mentioned on sprint as well?
I'm trying to figure out if it's a carrier specific issue or if the device is having these issues across all carriers.

Our S6 is on Sprint. No drop calls with S5 or iPhone 6. Haven't seen drops calls for over two years since Network Vision started.

Had the same issues with Tmobile Edge...calls cut off especially when driving but generally anytime after 3-4 minutes...I returned it to tmobile...went back to my previous M8

It looks like they didn't fix the problem which started with the Note 4 Edge on Sprint. I was afraid the S6 was going to have the same problem and apparently it does. Google "Note edge dropped calls sprint"

I noticed during the drop calls I was on Sprint to Sprint call via HD voice. Cannot conclude yet, need to do more testing today on a call that is not a Sprint customer. Also, I am in ALU market, dropped calls in Las Vegas and San Diego.

I have been with Sprint x 3 years, really never had a problem. got the S6...EVERY single call dropps. it onlyhappens when i am driving but it is soo annoying. went to sprint who sent me to a tech....tech rebooted/hard booted my phone, updated the ?prl..still dropping calls.
Was going to switch to edfe 6..but they are having soo many problems as well. Wth..im sooooooooo fustrated.

I have had the S6 since Sunday, 05/03/15. I have been dropping calls whether at home or in the car, driving or sitting still. I am on Sprint and had an S4 for two years that rarely if ever had this issue, only in rural areas where anyone would have this issue. I had read about the difference in the antenna and the inability to switch networks smoothly (4G to 3G and back) while in motion. If that is the case, is a firmware fix that is coming once they identify the cause (according to Sprint forums) going to really make a difference? My wife has an S5 and has no such issues. I actually read on the Sprint forum, from the Sprint tech, that they user should return it within their 14 day window if they have concerns. Not exactly a rousing endorsement! I'll give it another week but now I have to figure out what new handset to get or bet on a fix and keep it! So frustrating!

I'm on AT&T, and have this problem. Driving down 95 from DC my calls will drop a couple times. I have two phones with me in the car, for work and personal. Both are on AT&T. The iPhone 6 plus, will show full signal strength when this happens, and I notice the S6 will completely lose signal for a few seconds, then regain full strength. I hate this, because everything else about the phone is great, no pink/yellow display, no scratches, bubbles, and great battery life.

I think its the fact that samsung is using a brand new LTE modem for the exynos chipset which is probably not yet optimized for NA. in the past snapdragon version we never had this problem.

I spoke to Samsung customer services about this to see if a fix is coming. As expected the rep denied any knowledge and suggested I return the phone.

Drop Call Problems
Hello, All,
I'm a new customer to Sprint and I purchase the galaxy s6 edge. I'm on day 13 and will be taking the phone back today. Since day one I have had a tremendous amount of drop calls. I called tech support each time for these incidents. I primary use my phone for work as well, so drop calls "cannot" happen; especially if I'm on a conference call. The last rep I spoke to yesterday said that out of the 12 days that I had the phone, I only had "1" day with 90% of coverage......which means no drop calls.......just "1" day out of 12 days. This is very bad. I absolutely love this phone and has gotten use to it's features....turning it back in is very disappointing, but I'm going to have to go with something else b/c it's obvious that these phones have a issue that Samsung or Sprint are not willing to deal with. I would feel more comfortable about keeping it if there were an article or message out there from either Samsung or Sprint saying they're looking into fixing the problem......but as of today 5/8/2015, nothing has been said. If you're reading this and wondering should you get the galaxy s6 or the edge, do yourself a favor and get another phone. I can say in my research the drop calls issue has been across the board with all carriers so it's safe to say that it's something dealing with the phone itself rather than the carriers.

I know how you feel. I boxed mine up to return today. Nice phone, the camera is the best I've ever seen, but if it doesn't function as a telephone properly its game over. Why couldn't they get this right? I've just taken delivery of an Honor 6 plus. Don't laugh! Its pretty dam good.

Just to add my bit, I own a int'l version and I live in India.
I am also facing a lot of call drops since the day I have bought my phone. I do not have LTE in my region and this thing happens on 3g as well. The network handoff is awful in my opinion as the calls are dropped frequently while driving. This thing never happened with my previous device. ?

I have a same problem, I'm on T-Mobile , daily getting 5-7 dropped calls, they're going to switch my sim card, lets see what happens next.

I have this same problem in the UK on the 3 network. I have had new simcardsx 3, Home Hub network booster, 2 new phones and still the problem persists.
I get constant dropped calls, poor sound quality calls and many missed calls without missed call notifications.
If i switch back to my old Note 3 with same network I have no problems.
Answer = definately the S6 phone thats at fault.

[Q] Cant send or receive texts or make calls intermittently??

Hi XDa folk,
Got a problem with my new Samsung galaxy S2 that's stumping (and infuriating me). It's tricky to Google a solution for.
ISSUE: Several times a day, for several minutes at a time, I'm unable or send or revive text messages. During this ~5 min window I am also unable to make or receive calls. Outgoing texts will time out and outgoing call just stay at "dialing" and then time out. The issue resolves itself after a few minutes.
NOTES:
• This started when I switched to an iPhone on Sprint from my Samsung Epic 4g on Sprint. Thinking it was the iPhone issue, I switched to a Galaxy SII... which does the exact same thing.
• I have signal bars the whole time
• my girlfriend, who shares the cell plan and my house never has this issue (she has an Evolution 4g)
• tried updating the PRL, profile and even had Sprint reset my MSID#.
• happened on stock EK02 ROM, and rooted EL29 roms.
I am SO stumped. The fact that it happens on two phones implies a carrier issue... but I'd be delighted if any of you geniuses have ideas as to what's causing this?
Thanks!
If you're still on stock firmware and ought to have good signal (outside, within range of a cell tower) your problems are likely your provider's. Why not call them up? You may be able to get some swag (or a reduced bill) if you complain loudly enough.

Ahhh, but I have. They even escalated it after a tech had no idea. They offered to give me a totally new # to try and fix it. Um, no thanks! As this tech was not, shall we say, technical, I thought I'd post here in case anyone has any ideas.

htc radar dropped calls

hi we just use htc radar alittle over a week, but experiencing frequent dropping calls. It happens at work, at school and while driving, it's strangely frustrating. I had a webchat with tmo customer service. Basically, they said that the people around listed areas are experiencing same problems, and i'm not the only one. They
It doesn't make complete sense when I had no problem with iphone 3S, and blackberry curve 9300.
I tried to google htc radar dropping call issues, but not a lot hits on it. I got this phone via microsoft challenge (2 weeks ago), has anyone experiencing similar situation ? is this a known issue with htc radar, or microsoft is handing out crappy phone?
Thank you for your input.
YES!!! I am not the only one, glad to hear, i also did a google search w/ weak results, sound like we are twins
anyways, I had original Galaxy before and never had problems walking around house, inside of school buildings. but now w/ Radar, seems like I have to be near a window or edge or building/house. If I'm dead center of my house, I'm losing the call. I was on the phone pulling into garage, and yup, phone lost connection. My wife is running into same issue.
Extremely frustrating and disappointing. So far only 1 important phone call dropped, but hopefully I can live w/ it, or maybe an update can fix it
No issues here, hopefully just network related!

I get dropped calls too. People try to call me and when I answer it automatically hangs up on them. I think its T-Mobile because my friend has the LG G2X and hers do it as well
Well, from my experience, it is 100% the phone. Like I said, I had the Galaxy and never had problems on the phone in my house or work/building. But now that I'm on Radar, i get dropped calls in home and extremely weak reception @ work and inside of buildings.
I have the phone... A d I have not had any issues with drop calls.

Hi guys,
i just gonna open same topic
I havedrop calls when i'm on internet, i only get messig from secretary that i got call but did't ring. I'ts start to anoy me.
a few days ago I got a update on my HTC Radar, changed only firmware version
22 feb .. 1600.2200.20103.401
now .. 1600.2200.20501.401
I noticed that the drop calls disappeared ...
I had the radar and every time someone calls me and I answer it just hangs up. Sometime I can have full bars and it just hangs up. Contacted t-mobile and they sent me a replacement and it does the same thing. I believe its the network because I had a LG double play and it did the same thing. Switch to Straight Talk I get no dropped calls on my radar

Note 3 drop call and call quality

Hi,
I am just wondering if a lot of people on Sprint has experienced a lot of unpredictable drop calls and unstable call quality?
I tried updating the phone, exchanging the phone, but the problem is still there. Is this a common defect for this specific phone? Or this is just Sprint network creating the problem?

Most likely the network. This phone has been rock solid for me!
It has to be the network in your area...I use my phone anywhere from 5-10 thousand minutes a month. .. if I had any of those problems this phone would have gone back within a week. ... it's been very solid though.
http://i.imgur.com/qrByUGN.jpg
On the original firmware and modem I dropped 85%of calls. Then the next update mi5 got barely better. Mj4 had been much better,it still drops calls at least a couple times a day. I dropped more calls in one day on the note 3 then I did the entire time combined on my note 2.
I get 4-5 bars anywhere in my house. Mind you, I'm like 500 feet from a tower. (If they throw LTE on this tower, I'm set...)
I sometimes rock on full bars. 3G is also super strong. (2mbp/s on CDMA 3g? Not too bad)
But generally speaking, My Note 3 has none of these issues. Sprint is known for their voice clarity. Note 3 enforces this.

Considering your problem is probably the Sprint tower in your area, you would most likely be spinning your wheels. Take your phone to your local Sprint dealer to see if they can suggest anything. If they can't help you, try a different carrier if the problem persists.
I've had issues where I place a call and there is no tone or anything, however the recipient's phone rings like normal, but when answering can't hear anything either.. I'm kinda of disappointed with call issues on this phone, because otherwise it's a beast.

[Q] Singal Problems for the One Max?

Hey guys, Punk9 again.
I live in the UCF area (Orlando FL) and I have LTE signal here. I have around 2-3 bars of service most of the time as well.
Lately I have been getting texts late, and not even receiving phone calls. For example, my gf sent me 6 texts within about an hour, I got all six at once, each with the time stamp of the time she sent them, but I got them all at the same time. She also called twice and nothing rang on my end, but it rang for 30 seconds and went to my voice mail on her end.
Is this a known issue or? I'm running ViperROM for Sprint one max. It was happening when I was stock as well (which is why i didn't post in the ROM thread)
Any ideas?
-Andrew.
yeah, call sprint and tell them about your signal issue..
Did yoi flash with cwm or twrp? I havr heard there are issues with signal when flashing with cwm.

they've actually been very good lately, in the Chicago land area, about responding the these kinds of issues..We have the new Spark network here, and its been really good so far, but there are some spots that need to be tweaked. When you call them and report it, they appear to spend time to send a detailed report out to their field network folks, and, so far, the 3 times that I reported areas with dead zones, when i returned, the problem appeared to be fixed.
hope it works that way for you..
I'm at work in Maspeth Queens New York and I have the Spark 4G LTE with 1 Bar most of the time which eats up my battery. Then the rest of the time, My phone has anywhere from 4 to 6 Bars on 3G.
At My House I have No 4G Anything! And sometimes, a Crappy 3G signal. I have a Sprint Airaive because of that. And the Bad thing that SUCKS, is that I'm less than 2.Miles from the Tower with a Clear Line of Sight and I Roam about half of the time if I unplug the Airaive.

This sounds like a common CSFB issue. All new triband phones, or Spark devices use a new technology called Circuit Switch Fall Back, which allows the phone to use less battery because it has one radio for everything. When the device connects to LTE, it cuts off connection the 3G network, and essentially loses the ability to send/receive texts/calls. CSFB is the answer to this, however, it is not wholly deployed. CSFB tells the phone via LTE to switch back to 3G to receive phone calls and texts, as well as to send them. Since the technology is not as widely deployed as the amount of users of the new devices, theses issues happen.
A common way to fix this is to stay on 3G only mode, which is a burden. Otherwise hope the Sprint tech is smart enough to know its a Spark phone related issue, and knows how to send a tech out to your area to fix it. Last resort is to wait it out.
Calling Sprint may or may not do anything. I have been experiencing these problems since day one in New York City at my home, and every call to Sprint was answered with a saying that it is an issue with your phone.

Reports of dropped calls and poor reception

Have you noticed your G6SE is dropping calls and has overall poor reception?
I've had mine for four days now and have dropped many calls and lost signal where my previous phone managed to easily retain the network and never dropped calls.
Also I noticed when connected to my car's bluetooth, the signal display never shows full strength where again my previous phone always did. The GS6E only ever shows 80%
20150424_222933-1 by markcaigerwatson, on Flickr
when looking at my signal history in gsam, it also never goes above 80% which ties up with what my car's display.
Screenshot_2015-04-24-22-15-33.png by markcaigerwatson, on Flickr
Now i've made a comparison between my M8 and the GS6E and this clearly shows the GS6E is less sensitive to cell reception and this equates to the dropped calls.
The M8 can achieve -69 dBm at one one one point
Screenshot_2015-04-24-22-52-42 by markcaigerwatson, on Flickr
and the GS6E a lower -81dBm
Screenshot_2015-04-24-22-56-54 by markcaigerwatson, on Flickr
Ok, so the GS6E is not as good as others at cell reception. Is this a hardware limitation? or could new radios help this?
What is your experience of this?

What country and carrier are you on?
I'm in the US and on sprint and drop calls like crazy with my gs6e. Never had this issue with 10 years on sprint. I've noticed that I seem to drop calls more frequently while travelling on 9 at high rates of speed. It seems to be a tower handoff issue. I don't have the issue whilenjoying stationary.
I'm on tmo (US) and no issues. Honestly I've not read a lot of complaints about cell reception or at least no more than usual on any device. Regardless of that why I chimed in was really to say that my first phone was defective. The issues I had (horrid batt despite trying every fix mentioned here and all across the internet, fingerprint scanner was about 50%, again tried every possible fix I was able to scour up. New device and the fingerprint scanner immedietly worked perfectly and my battery life was fixed without me doing a thing. Keep in mind that by fixed battery I mean I get about 4 hours screen up time which isn't good but about what I would expect for a small battery in a bloated device.
Long story short, consider exchanging it. The lack of reports that speak of bad cell reception imply you may have a lemon to me.
Did you click on any of the links I posted in my original post? There are more too, but i thought that was enough.

Definitely some poor signal reception on Galaxy S6 Edge. Mine has poor signal reception as well. Bought mine unlocked in Hong Kong model 9250.
If I tell one of the people in HK about this they will give me the same old lame answer that no one has complained about thus issue yet.:silly:
Poor reception on China Unicom in China, poor reception on CHT in Taiwan and poor reception on CSL in Hong Kong. Last but not least is Wifi reception is literally horrible unless you sit or stand right next to Wifi router!
Yep I'm having the same issue with my S6 Edge to. At first I thought it was my network (Three UK) but after doing some research, I'm reading the issue is more widespread, internationally 2. Calls keep dropping when I'm on a call and I'm getting a bad reception in places where my S5 didn't. Really not happy about this. I hope this issue can be fixed with an update.
Experiencing the same issue. I put my S6 edge, old S4 and iPhone 4 + 5s side by side and they all have max signal while my Edge had just 1 bar.
I've been researching and somehow got to the Sprint forums where they were also reporting the same problems. I saw there that you could try switching to CDMA only. Tried it and while it did improve the signal, it prevented me from using LTE which I'm not really willing to compromise.

it is called Network Signal Info.. Free from Google Play.
This is in México City full LTE with my Note 4 , but the EDGE has This really poor reception.
The Phone is faulty or is the same case as others report on signal issues?
Same here for me on EE in the UK, switch to 2g/3g and signal is fine, set it back to 2g/3g/4g and 1 bar
Not sure what the problem is with this Galaxy S6 Edge but the 4G LTE reception is poor and download speeds are slow.
Same for me. I m in France near strasbourg with operator orange. It works fine with iphone but not with my galaxy s6 edge! !! With the same sim card of course!

I have not been able to connect to LTE since I got the edge a month ago. I'm currently on OE3 if this helps. Could this be a hardware issue?
I have received a few updates on my Galaxy S6 Edge but until now the wifi reception along with 3G and 4G reception suck. Even when reception is great or average the download speeds suck and are about half of what they are on my iPhone 6. Was expecting better results out of this phone but I guess not. My guess is that they either intentionally turned down the power provided for cell reception and wifi reception for longer battery life or their antennas on this smartphone really suck. Definitely a problem that Samsung needs to look into.
Mine is also struggling with connecting to stuff. 4g is spotty, calls drop and break up, wifi is shockingly bad, even in the next room to the router. 1 bar or no service on EE UK in a good signal area.
Going to call Samsung tomorrow and if they have no solution, it is definitely going back.
I am going to get rid of this Galaxy S6 Edge when the new Motorola comes out. The reception for both wifi and cell signal are beyond horrible on this phone. Battery life is quite poor as well. Try making a call using speakerphone if you have to talk while driving and see how many people tell you that you sound horrible. Samsung should learn a thing or two from Motorola,Apple and Blackberry when making phones for phone calls.
Samsung dropped the ball with this phone in two areas: Battery and Reception.
I am moving to a new phone as soon as I can sell this.
