Hello All, tried to search but unable to find the answer.
Is there a way in the standard Rom and standard message app so it clear the notification in the message app from the notification bar? It's annoying when you clear the notification and come back later to think that you have received a notification you have missed. Makes it a redundant process having to clear it from 2 places instead of just one. Is it just me or am I just crazy?
Thanks
It sounds as if you have some sort of reminder setup. But I don't see any such feature in the Settings.
Do you have the setting 'Clear Viewed Notification' enabled?

Hi recently when I receive a message I have a note and icon in the notification bar saying you have unread message this message just started to display itself recently.I tryed many ways to turn it off .the only way to get rid off it is to press clear when scrolling down.
Open the messaging app, click the menu button, select settings and untick notification. This will disable notifications altogether from this app.

Does anyone know of a way to turn off the notification sound when a text arrives? I don't mean the Text Messaging app notification, that's already off so there shouldn't be any sound but everytime I receive a text I still get a sound and vibrate which is coming from Settings > Sound Settings > Notification Ringtone (not the Text Messaging app settings).
If I use a 3rd party app (e.g. GoSMS) for texts I get double notifications, even when I turn off notifications for the stock messaging app. If I turn off the notification sound in Settings > Sound I don't get any sound at all.
Any ideas anyone? Hope you know what I mean, sorry if I haven't explained very well.
Grab and use the App "Simple sound profile widget" from the market.
That is one of my all time favorite Android apps ever! (plus its easy to use and free)
Hopefully that should help you out. If not, it's still a must have App anyway...

Thanks for coming to my assistance (again!) ccrows
I tried that app but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem, but really glad you mentioned it, it's definitely a really useful app to have.
It seems the stock android sound/vibrate notification is activated for any alert, in addition to whatever alert the individual app (i.e. text messaging/goSMS/email) uses, and I'm unable to separate them. I either have no notifications or two notifications
Is everyone else's phone the same? When you get a text message do you get two notifications (but not two messages)?
Many thanks
[EDIT] Problem solved, I feel like such an idiot! Every time I send/receive a text my carrier sends me a message with an update of my monthly allowance. I turned that off via their website and now no more double notifications. It was their message that was triggering the extra notification at the same time as the text messages.
I've been google'ing and puzzling for hours to get something like this to work.
Basically the whole idea is:
I'm using MissedIt! and i only want to see these notifications.
I can disable SMS notifications by it's settings, but it automatically disables sound notifications too, which i don't want.
I cannot disable missed call notification by any setting.
I can use Tasker to clear the sms and missed call notifications automatically by simply opening the phone log / sms app and retuning back to the home screen, but then the MissedIt! notifications are ofcourse also gone ;-).
So, basically; i no longer want to see notification texts/icons in the status bar, but i still wanna hear the notification sounds.
When i clear the message from the notification bar, MissedIt! still shows a missed 'event', which i want.
How on earth, are these notifications to be stopped / cleared, automatically!??
Any Tasker idea's for this one?

This is possible if you flash a 4.1 rom. Go to settings -> apps -> click on the app -> uncheck enable notifications.

Ok my phone is showing that I have a notification in my Txt messages but I have no msgs. I have removed the Txt from the home screen and deleted all of my Txt msgs but it still shows that I have one Txt. I also cleared the cache and have no notification in the lock screen. Any suggestions? And I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

Try rebooting the phone.
I did. I've tried everything short of un installing the factory txting app and I would do that if I could figure out how to get rid of the factory apps.

By a notification in your text messages, do you mean in your notification bar or does the icon show a "1" on the icon?
Mine do the same thing on the lock screen. The way I get rid of those notifications is to go ooen every single message that u get. With the emails I need to delete unopened emails because it will always show that I hsve new emails. For me is annoying because on my fascinate I just ipen a message from the notification bar and it will mark it read.
Opening a text message from the notification bar will mark it as read on this device too.
Swiping it away (or even clearing notifications) does not, never has, and probably never will (as stock).
Shows a 1 over the Txt icon, only after the phone has been unlocked though.

If nothing else, clear data on the messaging app.

I've tried that already also. That's why I'm so confused.

Had that problem, very irritating. This is the only thing that fixed it for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.menue.cacheclear
I have the same problem
if you are still having problems with this try the following.
go to settings - application manager - swipe across to ALL - scroll down to badgeprovider and clear the data and the restart your phone. This cleared the message icon for me. Hope it helps out some other folks who are having this issue.

As of 4.1 (or earlier), you can disable notifications per app in the settings. Go into settings, then application manager, and find your app. Click on it, and at the top, just under Force Close, is a check box where can enable or disable notifications.
