Right then, who else has noticed this? I'm presuming its an issue with the sync?
My contacts are stored with Googlemail and are set to sync, which is good as it saves me manually doing it and I usually change business contacts details so its nice that it updates on its own.
I link the contacts to facebook, pictures come over, look perfect (well, alright).
Later on, the pictures look awful and I'm presuming its because they are sent to Google and then sent back to the phone in a lower quality.
There were similar issues with the Touch HD syncing with Outlook and nobody found a way around it, anyone got any suggestions?
Nobody else noticing that their contacts pictures are really poor quality? Is it just me having this issue?

Me too...
No you are not alone.
Not alone
You are not alone, I presume that there is some kind of loss in the sync to make it work faster, I havnt seen any setting to make it lossless.
When I saved a picture from facebook and added it manually the was no loss in quality.
So until there is some kind of app out I guess you will just have to manually add the pictures if you cant live with the quality.
I sync with Outlook and its the same.
I do remember when i had a HTC Touch Diamond that was the same. The way you cured the problem was to take a photo with your phone to use as a contact picture and then it was full quality. To be honest not tried it with the Hero yet maybe a task for today for me..
Same problem here.
Hope they solve it in a future update.
Its the same with me, on my Diamond I created small high quality pics for my contacts & even with these the quality is crap.
On a side note is anybody else thinking that XDA Developers isn't the place for us & our hero handsets? I'm feeling a little bit unloved

People are only just getting their Hero's so this will get going soon. Its the same when any new devices come out, just takes time.
We have root already, TP2 doesn't have HardSPL yet and thats been out months.

I'm not sure I understood half of what you just said. What are Root, TP2 & HardSPL?

haha, ok...
Root gives you access to all of your phone and should allow you to flash new roms onto your phone.
HardSPL is used on phones and if you have hardspl, again, you can flash new roms.
TP2 is the Touch Pro 2, just another phone.
Basically I was trying to say the phone is new out, and usually when they are it takes a while for people to come over to them, but they do eventually. When more and more people come on board, there will be a lot more support.

You know what I think I need to make a retaction & clarify how I feel about the XDA Developers site & the hero. Both the comments of nicelad_uk & liamhere are totally spot on & it was silly of me to expect the amount of expert knowledge on the hero that I enjoyed with my previous winmo devices.
I realise now that this could be my time to shine & put something back into this community instead of just taking like I was accustomed to before. Now obviously its been established that my knowledge is a bit lax on the software but where I can help I will & hopefully the increase traffic & hel will bring more people to this part of the forum.

I've just read what I've written & although it WREAKS OF CHEESE I'm leaving it up because when you get past the cheese its pretty much true. Corny but true.
almost forgot thanks for the clarifications nicelad_uk, you really are a, er, nice lad

Haha, trust me, if you asked my girlfriend, she would say the opposite!
I started putting back into the community with my Touch Pro 2, recreating a theme which I loved on my Diamond but wasn't available, it was a good feeling.
Now I'm making apps for Android, nothing big, just getting used to it and trying different things.
And no problem with the help, we all try to help and its good to see a mod using these devices too, other people will follow shortly, when they see the light
Contacts Image quality
I have the same bad images quality in contact also. Even when i had my Touch HD. I sync with Outlook and even set the contact photo from the phone but when a call comes in or is made to the contact its all blurry. Any ideas?

That warms my cockles, does that! I feel just the same so I'm trying to help where I can (Not totally altruistic, just its summer break and I have time on my hands)
On the point of poor quality pics in the call window, I think what is happening is that the fone is grabbing the little Thumbnail created for the contacts, not the original pic. The thumbnail then looks like Sh** in the big call window.
Not a solution but could be a reason.

This issue is usually to do with the Sync, its been a common problem with Syncing with Outlook and google from Windows Mobile Devices. I posted a comment about poor picture quality on Google's forums and one of their development team said they would look into it, that was nearly 3 months ago though.
Can't think of anyway round it! Very annoying though. Auto Sync off for me I think.
I think everyone should go to the google forums and reply to this thread...

Make them aware we are noticing these issues!
hey mates, i think so to,when the people gets their hands on this wunderfull device, the development will be started ... mine arrives in 3 days ... cant wait for it ....
Anyone found a fix for this problem???
Yeah where the hell do I complain? HTC.com? This is so unacceptable. Why did I buy hp's w/ a Mic if no one can hear me?n don't get me started on the phone not supporting sufficiently loud vol. Levels 4 high resistance( higher end headphones-above 16 ohms generally) or the placement of the charging input or the phone not recognizing all media tags for media files it does play... orrr the back button flaw in the stock media player...n of coarse the abysmal battery life... I returned my iPhone4 for this? So far as far as a media player the iPhone is superior - tho I still wouldn't trade it - please HTC ...fix this mess!!
[I still love this this phone- but extremely frustrated]

Ok, there are like 50 threads with this same complaint. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON! Stop making useless threads that have this crap covered already! Stop. Hit "Search," if you need help locating that, it is at the top of the page next to where it says "Device by OS or Manufacturer." Ok, now type in that box "microphone" or hell, even "mic issue" and read the results. Read again. Reread. Then stop and think if a new thread is needed.
Oh, also, feel free to go back to iOS. No one is holding a gun to your head. And as a side note, this phone isn't even a month old yet. There will be a fix at some point. Unfortunately, some people, like me, don't hold it that high up on the list of issues.
thnks i feel sufficiently stupid n inferior but i will try to be more resourceful i appreciate ur patience n tolerance w/ my "newbie" ignorance
well i asked about the fix cuz i didn't know if it was the type off design faw that could be fixed remotely but i just took those suggestions and was helped immensley, tho it took some time cuz my PC's so slow now-now i just need help locating all my redundent posts in one place so i'll wait 4 ur reply...but seriousely, to all the tolerant people; sorry but ill get the hang of it soon.
...now if i could just locate those redundent post of mine.
A good PMP - wonderful in fact - did everything it said on the tin - except make and receive phonecalls.
95% network unavailability - when a 6 year old Nokia E70 didnt bat an eyelid and never dropped signal.
And they call this progress. Come monday I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy Pro and if that goes the same way then its contract go bye bye time and sayonara to my current provider.
Might I suggest that it would be a better use of peoples time on here to ***** at SE and other phone manufacturers regarding their equipments inability to provide simple and reliable phone services - than the current trend of - umm, I cant get a new .x.x update within 30 seconds !?! *ultrawinge mode: on*...?
People seem to forget that a smartphone is many things - but first and foremost its a phone - and in cases of extreme emergency, the ability to summon help, for whatever the situation can be the difference between life and death. The car accident victim you stopped to help isnt going to care about what version of An-drone you are running on your phone - and what happens if you are a woman alone and in trouble... woo hoo, look at that signal you dont got.. and the lives that are at risk because of that.
Stop wingeing about updates, and start wingeing about products released to market that dont fulfil their primary function...
A smartphone cant be that smart if it doesnt work as a phone...
Hello Jemmauk,
It seems that you overreact a bit. There is a rather large community of mini/mini pro users here that use their devices in daily basis and haven't reported bad reception. This is NOT a common issue.
Have you checked, if your mini pro is defected in any way or if there's something wrong with your provider?
Also you could be more polite against all of us, that seek the peak of performance from our phones.
No one is forcing you to be part of something that you don't like or support, plus, malicious criticism has nothing to offer to anyone.
Regards, D_d
Tons on people on this forum and outside of it use it to make phone calls without any problem, one of them, you, has problems.
Clearly it's the phone's fault.
May be you should just use public phone boot from now on... It's guarantee no line interruption..

Hello, if you have found problems with your phone, you should have tried to contact SE and report the problem. There is a posibillity of faulty device.
And after all no one forced you to buy a smartphone. There are a lot of simple device that they don't suffer of signal problems.

My phone works perfectly as a phone for at least three days if I just use it as that!
BUT, we must realize that a "smart phone" is a micro computer that you can actually make the call.
Unplug the charger cable to your notebook computer ...... How long will it take before it dies?
A maximum of three hours? Remember that you are complaining about a phone that can handle much of what you do on your computer, and keep it alive, almost half of the day!
Time to rethink?

I've been using an old flip phone for about 1 and a half years and im really getting tired of is and pay attention please the story gets on topic. I really think all of you here know what it is like to not have a smart phone at one pont or another. i need the unlock code for my Atrix to get my phone unlocked (NOT BEGGING FOR MONEY PLEASE KEEP READING) I heard the unlock code was a phone call away like seriously that easy. The only problem is i am socially awkward and completely dread tech support lines im extremely shy and nervous on the phone. All i am asking is if i could possibly give one of you my imei or whatever code and you can call the line for me and send me my code. listen i know it sounds like im lazy but i really do have issues talking on the phone with people and im sure one of you out there is actually nice enough to try this for me. please at the least consider it and get back to me. it costs nothing and i really would appreciate it .
-Josh.
Suspicious....
is it because you don't speak the language your are supposed to speak fluently to make the call? If that is the case i am not your man unfortunately. I am not that good at speaking english (If it is english) myself.
I know this is not what you are asking for, but you can get an unlock code for your phone on many websites without human interaction. I am not allowed to post links since i am a new user so, Cellunlocker dot net is a good website for unlocking phones. You know how to write that up there if you choose to go that route. And good luck.
Hi guys,
First post on these forums. I hope I'm not double posting but I could find quite what I was looking for.
My brother dropped his SK17i, the screen is cracked but still completely working, and the earpiece doesn't appear to be working ie. during a call you cannot hear the person talking but they can. The headphone jack works for a call though, and no other speakers are damaged. I downloaded ToggleHeadset2 but it wont open so I assume it won't work, but I tried SoundAbout and it also doesn't improve the situation any. Pretty sure its just a broken earpiece speaker which needs replaced.
Its running Android 4.0.2. (Latest Sony firmware update). I'd like to get into mobile phone fixing and he said if I can sort it out its mine. I'm pretty confident about having a hoke about inside it cause i've messed with laptops and desktops before but I'd like a bit of advice if possible.
I've found lots of good guides to open the phone, replacing the screen will be no problem, but I want to sort the speaker before investing in the screen which is dearer.
My questions are:
1. Is this the component I need to buy? <url removed> darn...can't post links yet! Ok well could someone link me to the component I would need?
2. What specific tools will I need for this? Soldering required etc?
I'm sorry if these are easily answerable elsewhere, I tried...

see bro its always risky to work with the device opened up and you might go wrong also sometimes.. a good advice is take the phone for Service to Sony if you are still in warranty. if you are not in warranty and cannot afford to spend money i would say there would be some 3rd party repairing centers in your city where they charge a little less... whatever it is no one here on XDA developers would be blamed if you mess up with your phone

Thanks for the reply. Of course I would never blame anyone if I followed their advice and I ended up destroying the phone, just wanted to know what level of task it is before I attempt it, like would this require soldering it would it be a ribbon slide in and out job. I own anti-static mats, wrist grounding things, and quite a few small laptop tools. Just trying to get an idea of what is actually involved in this before I have the phone in pieces. :good:
Like I said I'm excited to try open the phone myself and learn something maybe, any advice would be welcome. :highfive:
