[Q] 4.4.2 NC5 Verizon Deleted OS - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi, this is my first post. Anyways, I was messing around trying to get a custom rom on safestrap, when I accidentally deleted all of my system data resulting in an os uninstallation. The phone will boot into download mode but not much else. Also, it will not boot into recovery. I have been trying to flash the firmware for days and nothing is working. I'm honestly not sure if im flashing the right firmware or PIT file. So basically, I need to reinstall the entire OS and am not having any luck. What do I do?
Thanks!

What build was your phone on prior to it getting bricked?!
I'd suggest using a Full Wipe Odin image in this case.

Here's a link to all the Odin images you'd need. NC5 ( Kit Kat ) and MK2 & MJ7 ( Jellybean )

Again I'd suggest the Full Wipe

Full wipe Odin is your best bet.
sent via safestrap 3.72 and echo v25.1! !

I have no idea what build it was on to be honest. I forgot mostly everything about the phone. All I know is that I downloaded the latest OTA update before the brick. I will attempt the Full-wipe. Thanks guys.

[Q] Lost Internet after flash

I was trying to flash an updated version of the ROM i had, but a verizon message came up, essentially telling me my bootloader was still locked. I looked it up, and the fix is supposedly flashing it back to stock, which I tried, but it has no internet connection (wifi or service) and it loaded the ROM i had been trying to install earlier.
I double checked my model number, to see if that did anything, and it's changed from what it was when I flashed the first ROM, so i tried flashing the firmware for that model, but Odin just gives me a fail message for that, so i can get my ROM to run, but my internet is borked, and I can't get it back to stock to see if that fixes it.
Because I can't get internet access it's screwing up a lot of my attempts to fix it, and my computer refuses to read it, so I can't do anything from that end.
Also, while my WiFi refuses to turn on (switch pops back to grey after trying to turn it on) my service bars act like they're receiving, changing up and down, but they're greyed out and the carrier name is 'Empty'.

Original Build: if you mean what I was using before flash, I can't find the link to it, it was one of the first stock android ROMs for the GS4. If you mean prior to that, it was the standard Samsung TouchWiz the GS4 comes with.
I was trying to flash the ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340783
I flashed it using TWRP > wipe data/cache, factory reset > install zip > wipe dalvik cache > boot. When that didn't seem to work, I tried flashing stock using Odin, as I can't get the zips onto my phone now.

I mean the last official build the phone was on before you started flashing. (MDK, ME7, MI1, MJ7 or MK2)
Did you ever take any OTA's?
When you say TWRP, do you mean TWRP with Safestrap or just TWRP?

Erm, I believe it was MDK, but I'm not certain, and I wouldn't know how to go about checking that retroactively if I could.
I didn't knowingly take any OTA's

OK so if your phone was running Twrp, and not SafeStrap twrp, we can then probably assume your phone was on MDK.
What tar file did you use to Odin?

I don't know what you want exactly, the name of the file I tried to use to flash back to stock is 'SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar', I can't link because xda says I can't link outside sources until 10 posts, and I'm a tad new.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259
It has a very nice set of instructions that the first one I linked you to doesn't.
That links you to the no wipe MDK tar file. You should be OK to use that one.
Very important that you use the MDK file and not one of the others as those will lock your phone back up and no more custom recovery for you.
Its fairly easy. Let me know how I can help

If you run into problems with the no wipe tar files in the second link go and download the mdk tar file from

And try that.
Make sure you're using a good USB cable as well.

I got my phone back to stock, made sure my internet was working, rooted it, installed TWRP, and everything worked fine, but I have a question that might be a bit out of the bounds of this post. When I tried to use TWRP to flash stock android onto it I get the message "Verizon has detected unauthorized software [etc]". This is linked to the bootloader, if I recall correctly, but I can't find some really good help with it.
Further help would appreciated, but what you've done already has helped me far more than I had hoped when I posted, so thank you, oh so much.

We use Odin to flash stock firmwares. And devs do make"stock ROMs" that can be flashed in twrp...so really I need to know what it isv exactly you're trying to do...

Urgent! Soft Brick or Hard Brick after installing Rom

Hi.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 upgraded to NC5 kitkat 4.4.2.
I was on Hyperdrive Rom 17.1 and I wanted to try out other roms so I installed the latest version of Chaos rom. I know how to install other roms because I've done so on other phones. So after I installed the rom all worked great. But after I rebooted my phone the phone wont go past the Samsung Galaxy S4 Splash. When ever I reboot it shows the splash then the screen goes black. I've spent hours trying to fix this. NOTE: I can go into Download Mode and Recovery Mode.
What should I do? Is there any method to fix this? Ive tried reinstalling normal stock via oden and the default recovery mode
Im stumped at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will need to boot into recovery and wipe everything except internal SD and factory reset. Surge has a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209 with all of the ODIN files you will need. I'm not sure what you mean by "tried to reinstall normal stock with ODIN". Do you mean the ODIN flash failed or that the flash worked but you are still unable to access your phone?

How do I do that? I just go into the recovery and choose the wipe data option? And I only have the standard android recovery. I dont have SS or TWRP or CWM installed atm
And yeah Odin Flash failed. But I didnt use the MK2 files though. I used the NC5 files. Im not sure if that could be the issue but I'll give it a try.

Yes, boot into normal recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik/factory reset then try the ODIN flash. You can try the full wipe method to get back to NC5 right away but you may need to start at MK2.

Yes you can. first, after you upgrade to 4.4.4, you can try to do a factory reset back to 4.4.2. If you are still at 4.4.4 after the reset, than you will have try one of the options below.
Its tricky, your device may or my not boot loop when you go back to 4.4.2. However, if you check out my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/help/4-4-4-download-mode-t2877528 we found two ways around the boot loop. In post #7 he did it by going into factory recovery and doing a factory reset, this will work without tripping KNOX. My way works, but it is for a device with KNOX already tripped.
Does this really work about downgrading without knox tripped. I am pure stock I have NC5 tar. and odin already

Reverted back to 4.4.2
I did the OTA today to 4.4.4. After a successful upgrade, I flashed back to 4.4.2 using Odin and the stock NC5 ROM. My phone ended up in a boot loop and I did what was suggested if your phone gets into a boot loop. I booted into stock recovery and did a factory reset. I was then able to boot successfully into 4.4.2! Everything still stock. Knox still 0x0 and device status Official
Downloaded NC5 from here N900PVPUCNC5_N900PSPTCNC5_N900PVPUCNC5_HOME
Odin provided in attachment (from CF-Auto)

Please forgive me if I am in the wrong forum. Just a couple of questions. I am currently on the rooted nc5 touch wiz rom on my sprint galaxy note 3. Here goes: Do I have to unroot to install the 4.4.4 stock firmware. Or just flash it with odin. Secondly, what about my nandroid backups on nc5. Can they be used again after rooting the 4.4.4 firmware. I have cm11 nightly ( awesome rom btw ) or do I have to go thru the whole process from scratch. Thanks in advance.

NO, you do not have to unroot your device. BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST !!! Just boot into download mode and flash through Odin here is a link to a complete copy of 4.4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 . Now you might lose your nandroid backups. So here is what I would do. First make a copy of your backups file to the desktop of your PC. Now after you get 4.4.4 installed and rooted, install the same recovery you used before. After you make a backup of rooted stock 4.4.4 to your sd card, copy the old backups file on your PC to your new backup file. Now try and restore an old backup. Chances are its going to come back md5 mismatch error, no problem !!! YES, just use a root file manger like Root Explorer go to the old backup file that failed, and click on it. You will see all the files that make up the OS, delete the nandriod.md5 file. Now click on add a new file, and add nandroid.md5 where the old one was, check permissions rwxrwx---. Restore the backup again since the new nandroid.md5 is empty it forces the system to ignore it and it will restore your old backup. Once it boots up, and everything is good make a new backup of the old one, this will have a new md5 and you will be able to restore with no problem the next time.

Incredible I had no issues . After I installed nh7 firmware, then rooted. Restored my cm11 backup. No md5 mismatch. That is why I love this recovery.

Help with bricked phone.

Just bricked my phone, new to all this stuff. Trying to repair it with odin, no luck. can anyone hit me up on skype and help me out? skype = wakfuyap
I can get into download mode, but I can't boot the phone normally. Simply want to revert to stock and go from there. Tried numerous different md5 files through odin, they crash when I try to load them, usually while trying to write NAND? I would like some help over skype, I can pay you if you get my phone working and can walk me through it, thanks.
James McCann.
What kind of phone?
Verizon Samsung Galaxy s4
S4 sounds like a locked bootloader stock probably keep trying the cuamdl try nb1 I just flashed on a s4 about five months ago Odin NB1 twrootable

4. Then press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power button at the same time.
5. Press Volume Up button when warning prompt.
6. Odin download mode will be loaded.
5. Connect USB cable to your phone.
7. At PC, extract firmware .tar (or .tar.md5) file that you downloaded to Firmware folder.
8. Then bring up Odin as administrator
9. Click on PDA. Select the .tar (or .tar.md5) at Firmware folder.
10. Click Start then.
11. Remove USB cable from your phone when you see green PASS!
That’s it. You have successfully installed stock official firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S4.

You need NK1
---------- Post added at 02:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 AM ----------
I don't Skype but that's how to do it hope it helps
first steps aren't available to me, there are no options, it goes straight to the screen asking me if I want to do download mode by pressing volume up. I can get to download mode, when I try to load the md5 file via odin it fails every time, I have tried many different md5 files. some times it is an AUTH problem, sometimes NAND problem. Why is this so complicated? Why can't somebody just give me clear instructions that work? I can get to download mode, I can launch odin. I need a file that works and to know which boxes need to be checked.
I have done it did you download the Verizon nk1 file from the link in the post? That's where I got my files ......... Shizz its probably the version of Odin you are using try 1.85 I never have problems with that one but the others are sometimes hit and miss if you have the right files and its recognized by Odin then it has to be the Odin version you are using I have about seven different versions but I only use 1.85
---------- Post added at 03:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 AM ----------
Boxes just leave the same don't check flash lock that's for sure
---------- Post added at 03:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 AM ----------
If its in a tar.Md5 then it does not need to be extracted also
I have tried the older version of ODIN you recommended, 1.85 and the md5 file you gave me the link to. It doesn't work either, it will fail at some stage that says AUTH, which is what happens on the others, sometimes at the NAND part. fails very quickly, 3-4 seconds into it after I hit start. Anyone else have any advice? Is there another method besides ODIN because that seems like a bunch of nonsense to me, since I have tried about every version of ODIN and md5 file listed on these forums.
I have the same issue on my SCH-I545 that was running 5.1 Lollipop OF1. I flashed it back to OC1 and rooted the phone. I then flashed back to OF1 and everything was working perfect. My ultimate goal though was learn and to install custom roms but with the boot loader being locked on Lollipop you are limited to what you can install. So reading through forums I saw that there are a lot of people running @stang5litre custom rom. I found and followed the instructions after reading through almost the entire 300+ page thread. I did it exactly how it was posted but after the rom flashed and rebooted the phone would just hang on the custom boot screen. I waited like @stang5litre has said (for up to 15 min.) when it still didn't reload I pulled the battery and rebooted again. It still just hangs on the custom boot screen. I have re-flashed OF1 and OC1 with the same results.
Can I flash back to 4.4.2 like @Joker1716 is saying above? I thought once you have upgraded to Lollipop you can't revert back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bet FF moved wipe to at the end. Which is why your not booting. You have to set it twice with FF or it moves wipe to the end. This is a known bug with FF. Before you hit the bolt make sure the order is correct and you will boot up fine. Happy to help you

Thanks for the quick reply @stang5litre....I did move wipe back to the front as I read to do so in your thread. But now the phone will not get past the custom boot screen even after I've re-flashed the OF1 & OC1 files. Do I have any other options on fixing this phone? I don't have a problem buying a new one as I've had this for a while but I really hate to give up on this if there is away to get it back up and running.

I have similar issuse. I'm on OF1.
Rooted then tried to flash newest TWRP via the app. Wont reboot or go into recovery. Can get it to reboot unless I odin a OC1 or OF1 kernel.
Best way to ODIN back to OF1 or an earlier firmware?

What were you originally on(base)? If your not mdk then you cantt use TWRP.
You would need to Odin back to what you came from re root and then go through the the process. But I need to know what base you were on when you rooted.
Thanks

{Rooted} Cannot Boot Into Recovery Mode

So, recently I rooted my GS4 SCH-I545 and wanted to install a custom rom. I installed ROM Manager and tried to install a custom recovery, but overtime I would go into recovery, it would show a dying android with the message "No Command" on the screen, then It would take me to the stock recovery.
-------------------------------------------------------
Later I downloaded TWRP Manager and looked for a custom recovery there. I found one that seemed right and downloaded it. It rebooted my phone and instead of taking me to recovery mode, it took me to the ODIN downloading screen, but on top it said, "COULD NOT DO A NORMAL BOOT" and it said Downloading. The only way to get onto the phone was for me to go to ODIN and flash OC1 firmware onto the phone, and then it would boot up. Otherwise, now I cannot do a factory reset, and/or go into recovery mode.
Is there any possible solutions on how to get the phone back to normal?
-------------------------------------------------------
BTW: My Baseband or Boot-loader is: I545VRUGOF1

Ok then, but I have a few questions. First, what will this do to my phone? My next question is, will this brick my phone? Lastly, do I download the TAR, click the AP button on ODIN, click the TAR file, then flash it to my Phone?
---By the way, can you give me a link to the OF1 tar?
I have the OF1 ".tar.md5", also I can get you back to running prefect stock, then guide you thru the right steps to root and fix up your device!

Ok, then what is your Hangout, so I can add you. Otherwise, its fine if you tell me the steps here. Although, it'd be better if you send me the steps on Hangouts.
