Double Tab to Wake and Battery life - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This question just popped up in my mind. It would be great if someone can answer it. I wanted to know "Double Tab to Wake " reduces battery life ? Does Proximity sensor remains on if this is activated?
Please suggest.

It seems not to make any affect on battery life
This probably does but unoticable

Thanks! But does this feature keeps proximity sensor or any other sensor on all the time?

No sensors that i know of
I think it keeps screen a tiny bit but thats why you double tap
Tap1 - wake to check for 2nd tap
Tap2 - full power,wake from sleep

wakelocks

So i downloaded [email protected] battery monitor app. . Googles services had 406 wakelocks ... Is this normal??? My battery is crap on just 4g (even disabling mobile data on occasion). I get from 8am when i take the charger off till about 3pm. (maybe surf web for 10 mi.utes send a few texts, mostly the screen is off). See below... Is g services the culprit? I dont use gps either or anything for location
What app is that?
100% stock. 21 hours unplugged time and 5 hours 4 minutes screen on time. Just because they are "wakelocks" doesn't mean they are keeping your device awake. It means that they are able to. Only 35kb was sent and your device was only kept awake 69 times. That isn't much. I mean damn man, TOTAL awake time according to your screenshot is under 2 minutes lol. That isn't even denting your battery. The culprit is elsewhere.

whats the name of this app?
I have the same app. Android services is at top for me and it says its using the gyroscope and light? Motion settings are off and my on screen time is only at 1h30min. What's up with this because its killing my battery.

Light is referring to the sensor. The ambient light sensor. The gyroscope and such are used for location data and screen orientation. Screen orientation is seperate from motion controls, so check and see if it's still active.

Yeah i dunno... It all the.sudden appeared when i put a contact widget on my.screen but i mean i took that.screenshot shortly after. I just notice that.my battery dying a lot. I tjought powerAMP and widgetlocker were issues too.. Going to monitor them.next

Alright. So I turned off auto brightness and set if at medium. As for the gyroscope, screen rotation is locked and has been. Its clocked in at two hours now which is right on par with on screen time. Is this because i keep GPS on because i thought it was only used when needed. Also in the location settings under Gps there's another setting to use motion sensing indoors that will improve battery life should that be checked because i have that unchecked

Ugh now it won't let upload pics. Anyway i found the apps that use the sensor the most. Words with friends came out on top as well as the gallery. The gallery i understand because when you tilt your phone so does the UI but i don't use it for three hours. Also, since when does Wwf need the gyroscope ? I think I'm going to have to delete Wwf and see how that goes. What do you think about the gallery constantly using the sensor? Glitch?

[Q] Proximity Sensor use

I am using Ace of a year now. And I still cant understand that Samsung guys gave proximity sensor just to make screen go off when you are in a call. As proximity Sensor wont work for other uses (like snoozing alarm or silent an incoming call etc.)
Can those things work for my ace? is there any tweak or something that will make it work?
your help will be appreciated.. ty
its for diming screen

so it means we can never use the ace's sensor for other things..
oh yes
you can use it for a lot of things

So I guess there might be an app to snooze alarm and to silent an incoming call.. isn't it?

SURE it's an app called TASKER, in tasker you can do anything !!! the problem is you need to know how to use it.... but... search for a tut......mmm basicly the app is:
IF->ACTION
FOR EXAMPLE you can use the sensor for silent a call when you face down the phone (yes, like sense )
the limit is your imagination

Does Turning Auto-Rotation off save battery?

I have been reading in many threads in the Xperia Sola/P/U sub forum that one should turn off auto rotation to save battery if that feature is not being used.
I used to do that. Until yesterday evening while playing Temple Run, when a doubt came to my mind.
Since auto rotation is turned off. But the guy in the TR2 picks up movement from tilting the phone also. Which means the gyroscope (on whatever device that is used to measure angular movements) must be running even after auto rotation is turned off..
So if gyroscope is still on, is there any actual battery saving?

Yes is for Turing it off disable sensors and it saves battery
Sent from my Xperia U using Tapatalk 2
By turing off auto rotation means
Screen will not rotate while in normal apps, gallery, brpwser etc
It doest mean it will completely turn ur senor off...
Games require gyroscope so it will run while playing
Sent from my Xperia U using xda premium
That will turn off sensor for screen rotation but not for games.
But if you arent playing game and you have autorot turned off you are saving battery
Ps sorry for my bad english

If Auto Rotation off disables sensors, how are games still able to sense movement.
If auto rotation off does not disable sensor, how is battery being saved?

It does disable the sensor, but when you install some apps (games in paticular that use the gyroscope and stuff) they have the permission to turn it on, but outside of that app it will be off. Very simple actually

Turning off autorotate will not save your battery.
Also factor in the negligible savings from cpu not polling sensors, or processing animation for rotation.
It will NOT save your battery at all...

Ok...

Insanely weak and inconsistent vibration.

Anyone else have weak vibration? I'm barely getting any feedback from the nav bar and haptic has to be around 70ms to feel anything.

inconsistant? does the vibration stop working or does its power vary?
I only noticed varying vibrations when I'm typing on the keyboard. I noticed that slow typing would vibrate softly but it gradually increases in intensity when you increase your typing speed. I just came to the conclusion that the intensity of the haptic feedback is determined by the speed of your typing.
I've had issues where the vibrator stops working and to get it working again I have to lay the phone flat on it's back or shake the phone a bit but the frequency that this occurs is quite random, sometimes it does it all the time and sometimes not at all otherwise the vibration on this is really quite good, noticeably stronger than my One X but also slightly noisier.

It does both. Sometimes it feels like it's almost not vibrating at all, others it "surges" to be pretty noticeable.
TheOnlyIntruder seems to have the same issue.
Just bumping. This seems to still be going on. If I get an app and test vibration it works, but otherwise it is hit and miss on if I'll feel vibration with the nav bar or keyboard

Screen brightness lowered and Thermal Daemon Mitigation

Dim mode is disable but Screen brightness lowered itself.
I think this is due to Thermal Daemon Mitigation. Is there a way to disable this on LG G5
Thanks!
bump. Im highly annoyed with the brightness going down.
Sent from my LGLS992 using XDA-Developers mobile app
any news on that ? it's too bad to have 900 nits screen and see only 300-380 nits !
Yes I have the same problem here. But just outdoor extra sunny and screen 100%. (Not auto)
And often, the brightness going down too, by itself.
(I think it's maybe because of the temp, I don't know..)
So, the hidden menu in Marshmallow, here it is folks. Where would I be able to find the option to turn off screen dim do to thermal mitigation? Anyone have any ideas?
