Contact number issue! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After trying to find an answer to this for months I decided to make a post. After converting my contacts from my old Windows Mobile Phone to a Note 3 I have exactly one contact with an issue. The issue is only in the text thread and is a problem when I try to send a text to the contact from the preexisting thread. The contact number at the top of the screen (below the name) has a letter in front of the number for some reason. The letter is not present if I go into the contact or if I export the address book to a spreadsheet through Gmail or Microsoft Live. I tried deleting the contact from Gmail and Live to see if it will start a new thread or fix the error, but it does not. The issue is not present when I create a new text to send to the contact so long as I am not doing it from the preexisting thread, but then everything ends up in the preexisting thread instead of a new thread.
Hopefully someone here can walk me through a backdoor way of editing a text thread to fix this issue with the random letter in front of the contact's number so I can have regular text conversations with this contact without deleting the entire thread and message history.

Is there a moderator able to help guide me in the right direction if this should be posted somewhere else?

Help!
I really could use some advice on this matter as I am yet to find a solution.

[Q] Gingerbread Contacts In TM Issue

I apologize if this issue is somewhere in this forum. I've been searching for the better part of an hour and I haven't found anything close, to the issue that I'm having.
Problem: when I send a text message to multiple contacts, for some reason, all of the phone numbers for people in the list, show up as part of the phone number, for the last person on the list from that point forward. For example, suppose that I send a tm to Joe, Mary and Sam. Their phone numbers are 222-222-2222, 333-333-3333 and 999-999-9999, respectively. When I get a reply from Sam (who's the last person on my list of recipients), the msg shows up as being from "222-222-2222;333-333-3333;+1999-999-9999". Note that the +1 has been added only to the last number.
The first time that this happened, I had to delete the contact record for the last person on the list (Sam in this example), turn off the device, restart and manually enter a new contact record. Now that process doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
bump to the top in hopes that someone has an idea as to what's doing this.

[Q]

2 days before i have upgraded my sony W8 from 2.1 to 2.3.7
after successful installation i had restored the back up taken for contacts and SMS.
The restore process was done successfully, i am able to view the sms, however not able to view the contacts
While in the call log, i can see the names does it means that the contacts also restored successfully?
If yes then why i am not seeing the contacts ?
can anyone help me for this ?
Is that a Windows-based device? You're posting in an Android forum. Furthermore, please use a descriptive title and not just "Q" -- obviously, you have a question, otherwise you wouldn't be posting in here. It helps people sift through the posts and determine which they could help with and those in which they do not, all without having to open all the threads and read the entire OP.
Unable to view contacts
sorry for that, and sorry for the delay as wel.
I am using a Sony Ericsson W8 device, this is not a windows based.
few more things like to share.
i have one app called Folder Orgaaniser, using this app i am able to see all the contacts.
every time i save a contact it does not show me the saved contact, but i can see that in folder organiser.
moreover if that person calls me, i get his name displayed on the screen, but my contact list is showing empty.
is this helpful or need some more info ?

[Q] Android stock SMS app sending message to existing contact issue

This is my first post, so I hope I'm going about this in the right way. Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. I haven't been able to find anything related to this issue on these forums or the web, as I think it is a difficult problem to explain and not sure what key words to search by.
At least since Android OS 4.1, and now also with 4.2, I am having issues with the stock SMS app. Many of my contacts are saved in the format 1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx. When I go to the SMS app and click new message, then type in a contact's name, if they have their number formatted as such, the number becomes truncated by removing the parenthesis and what is between them, so it becomes 1 xxx-xxxx. obviously sending the text message fails and does not reach the intended recipient.
It works fine with numbers formatted as 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx, xxx-xxx-xxxx, and (xxx) xxx-xxxx. I've tested it with all these iterations. This is very frustrating and the only workaround is to search back in the SMS history and find that person and click reply, or to go the People app and search for the contact and then click the send SMS icon next to the number under their contact info, or to copy and paste the number from their contact info into the SMS app.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this even on the Android team's radar as a bug that needs fixing? How do I let them know?
UPDATE!!!
Allow me to illustrate the issue with screen shots:
I created 5 test contacts with differently formatted numbers (the numbers were all randomly chosen and you can see they are labeled as follows in the screen shots)
Test 1: 1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx
Test 2: +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx
Test 3: 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx
Test 4: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Test 5: (xxx) xxx-xxxx
This shows the five contacts when i type in test to the add contact search field

Selecting contact Test 1 as the recipient of SMS/MMS. Notice that the area code is omitted and therefore the contact is not recognized, so no name is populated.

Selecting contact Test 2 as the recipient of SMS/MMS. This works and the name and number of the contact are shown appropriately.

Any one else have this issue? This is clearly a bug, not sure how to bring it to android developers attention.
Thanks.

Could anybody be kind enough to shed some light on this matter? Or direct me to a more appropriate forum / thread / audience?
Many thanks.

I am also experiencing this issue, I have opened a bug report for this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42325. You may wish to add your extra findings to the bug report.
Ah I had already done likewise, I should have shared the link. Hopefully an android dev can merge the issues.
Since I can't post links yet, my bug report is issue number 41959, which can be found by searching the link paul posted.
Having the same problem also. Any help please...

[Q] Merging multiple text threads into one continiously

I recently got an SGS5, and I noticed something that has started to annoy me. Judging on what I can read online and from googling I am not the only one annoyed by it. But so far no one has actually provided a viable and working solution as far as I see it.
Problem:
I have several contacts with multiple phone numbers under them, and when I get texts from the various number it creates one new thread/conversation pr number they text me from and its getting to the point where it is getting annoying. Isn't there some way to fix or correct this?. ie where the phone defaults to respond to the last number it got a text from, from that contact, or that it simply defaults to sending a text out on the default selected number or asks?.
I am not looking for something or a solution that will merge all my threads back in time, but for something that works going forward so that all threads created from today and onwards gets merged.
I know Google Hangout apparently can do this, but I don't want to use Google Hangout as my default messaging app, and I am presently using HandCent in case there is a setting inside Handcent that I just need to set.
But I hope someone might have a working solution to my problem/issue & thanks in advance.

Cannot search exchange emails

Hi,
I have an issue with a user I'm trying to support who cannot search emails on her Galaxy Alpha. After opening the exchange inbox and tapping the Magnifying glass icon we can search for a name but this results with all emails that have the name within the email as well as emails sent by that person.
However, tapping the settings next to the search field presents the 'Advanced Search' options. This clearly allows us to search for an individual sender, which is exactly what we want. I start by typing the name of the sender and this is recognized and picked up through the address list. All good so far. I've left the remaining fields untouched except for the dates the email being searched for was sent.
I then click search and we see no results at all...... totally blank. I've been through the search terms several times in case I'm missing something but there's no obvious issues and nothing is found by the search tool at all.
There are no pending updates that could patch this problem so we're confused. Can anyone advise how Samsung's advanced email search should work?
I'd be very grateful to anyone who knows the answer to this.
