[Q] Alcatel A851L One Touch Sonic - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any one working on a custom recovery for this device?

It's been suggested that Framaroot will root this device. If any one has rooted this device please post how you accomplished it for any one interested.
Edit: Attempted Framaroot. No go. Attempt failed. If any one has any other suggestions please post them for any one with this device including myself.

Another way I came across is SRSroot. Haven't used it yet though so don't know if it will work or brick. Hopefully not the latter. Although StraightTalk said they will replace my GSII when one becomes available in the warehouse so I may not root this device as I will have to send it back at some point.
Also tried Z4root without success. That went as far as trying to gain root shell then freezes and closes. Things go wrong after that and I have to reboot to restore it back to normal.

I used SRS root to root mine. Seems to work fine. Having an issue with my WiFi not wanting to connect but it may just be my router being cute...
I used the smart root option and the Gandalf exploit was the one that worked for me...

Ok. Thanks to Chaz the rooting issue is solved. Now all we need is some one to take an interest in this device and provide us with a recovery and some roms. PLEASE????
I want to learn how to port and create myself but I currently have no PC to learn on so am totally dependant on the good people here at XDA.
Thanks XDA and God Bless you all.

root for alcatel a851l
After a few tries I finally was successful with the no computer framaroot app. I chose the install supersu and then Gandalf. Then checked with a root check app to make sure I was successful. One of the first apps I chose was adblockplus, it's nice to play games with no more ad interruptions. I live way out in the middle of BFE, at&t signal comes and goes. So I've played around a bit and installed internet booster and faster internet 2x apps. Now I'm getting a 4g signal at times and a great improvement in internet speed and even now see a better signal in general. I also installed an app and froze preinstalled apps I don't use and even hate just to make sure nothing important was damaged. Then the best feeling was to finally remove completely.
I'm still having trouble getting a hotspot or WiFi tether to run. Foxfi was my first choice, since I've used numerous times on a variety of phones but had no luck. I'm currently researching and trying different apps to get my phone to be wifi hotspot router to hook up my tablet to save my eyes from this small screen and then connect to my printer as well. Would be a lifesaver if my son could connect to his Xbox.

Ok. I bricked my device by changing to many fonts. Does anyone know the proper flashing tool for this device and can any one supply a system.img that I can flash back to my device to unbrick it? Any help would be appriciated.

Ive heard the bootloader is locked on this device. Can any one confirm this and can it be unlocked using fastboot or other wise?
The bootloader for this device is listed (by the app Quickboot) as (LFACQ0Q0). Don't know enough to know if this helps in unlocking the bootloader or not. Tried to boot into the bootloader using the quickboot app but no luck. Haven't found any thing on Google about this devices bootloader.

[Q] Root for Zte Score from Metro Pcs

Been looking for a root for My ZTE Score(x500). Really want to get it rooted so i can really play around with the phone but nothing has helped me root it , if you guys have found a way i would love to try it
Have you tried the Cricket root method, I have a Cricket branded Score sitting around that I picked up when Best Buy had them on sale and this worked to root it:
http://score.rockthatmobile.com/how-to-root-the-cricket-zte-score-x500/
Unless MetroPCS has something different in their version it should work.
I tried that's but for some odd reason it's not working for me, and i don't know why?
It doesn't work for MetroPCS. Nothing does.

Anyone have GOOD Enterprise running on rooted device?

Hi Community,
I was wondering if anyone has got Good Mobile enterprise email app to work successfully on a rooted device? I tried renaming Superuser but no go, when it tried configuring the device it says it will not run on a rooted phone... If someone has got it working please share.

Huh??
Are you asking if there is a good alternative email that works with Exchange?
If so, try Enhanced Email, works perfectly for the year + I have had it, also allows bypass of the PIN code.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
No not exchange, there is an app in the market called "Good" for connecting to an enterprise exchange server. Larger companies have started using this to replace Blackberry devices. They make an app for aOS & iOS.

You can hide the fact that your rooted threw different apps available on the play store. Try a few to see if they will help.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\=LTE
I never had an issue with Good and my rooted OG Evo but I don't use it on my LTE Evo.
I am currently running Good for Enterprise on my rooted LTE with no problems. Ran it on stock rooted, Meanrom, and now Tranquility without any problems. Never gave me an error or message about being rooted. I also ran it on my Evo 3d and Evo 0G.
I think it may only check for a rooted device if your company enables the check...The company I work for says on the policy doc that you are not allowed to access the company email with Good if you are rooted and it checks during authentication. I will try those apps on the play store that hide the root status and report back if they work. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Laie! I found "Hide my root" and it hides the root binaries and temp removes superuser so I think that will work, the app has over 10k DLs and many 5 star ratings...I'm too excited been wanting to root this bad boy since I got it but couldn't because of this issue. I appreciate the idea don't know why I didn't think about that...there is an app for almost every thing these days!

Hi, so did Hide my root work? Don't want to root my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and start fresh then realize I can't access Good. I had it rooted a while back and my company definitely has that check enabled
I'd also like to know if OTA Rootkeeper or Hide My Root work for this. I have MobileIron coming down the pipe and would like a way to keep my custom ROM and remove root.

hello, have you solved your GOOD problem? I have the same thing and it is driving me crazy
I use to use good, but after they forced the update that prevents using it while rooted I gave up and found a free push email client that works.

Wi-Fi tether app?

So, just got a nexus 7 and want to to use my Amaze to tether to it for mobile data. I've searched around A LOT and not found a post that answers my question. I've seen several posts about tether hacking APN's and "viewing formats"? to trick T-MO into seeing the downloaded info as being a mobile device, or specifically an Android device. I don't want the hassle or know if it's possible from my tablet to my phone. I am actually looking for an APP that permits tethering. I am willing to pay for it, but I haven't found one that works. I've tried several free versions that permit you to test the app before buying the paid version. And some others that try using the stock tethering but use the aftermarket APP to get to it. Nothing works. Either T-MO blocks it still, or it can never fully connect. Does anyone know an app that works? I have an unlocked bootloader, and am running Eclipzes speed rom. I AM S-ON. Will S-OFF help? Any advice is appreciated.

Wifi tether for root users? It is free.

That was the most disappointing 1. It actually turns my phone off...

I used the APN change and built-in tethering app as found documented in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332627
That works for me and a stock only ever temp rooted Amaze 4g. You said you are willing to pay, then you could just pay T-Mobile if that is the case. No need to pay any 3rd party if that what you decide.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Yeah, I meant pay for an app once and be done. $15 per month for the foreseeable future just to access to my own data plan is stupid. I'll try that method. Does anyone know if I go back to gingerbread if I'll regain the feature? Has anyone tried this? I would be willing to go that route, the Nexus is my play toy now so it won't bother me soo much to be running 2.3 on the Amaze. Although I'll miss speed rom...

Yaataa! Working, for now. I'll update if they cut me off...

[Q] How does one unlock free wifi on Motorola Photon

So I have this Motorola Photon,
I rooted it and it has the latest update prior to the rooting.
I would like to unlock whatever it is that I need to in order to get Free Wifi for my laptop.
I would also like to be able to stream Netflix on my laptop since I don't want to pay for Cable and internet.
If anyone could give me step by step instructions, that would be most helpful.
Thank you in advance for your time and help
:::Cheers:::
You can install the wifi-tether app from the play store. Just beware of any contract issues that might bring up with your cell provider.

What WiFi Tethering app do you recommend
Also:
How do I get around my wireless provider? I have Sprint, my brother and I are on the same plan. He has the ability to get free mobile hot spot, via root etc. He wont tell me how to do it "figure it out yourself" So here I am. If you have any info or a step by step pretty please let me know.
Thanks
Your brother rooted hits phone and very likely loaded this WifiTether app: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list.

WIFI Hotspot without rooting?

Is it possible to make HTC One MAX a wifi hotspot without rooting? When I had EVO, I used PDANET. Are there any equivalents?
This is default feature available. No need root for it. Look for it at settings/more/wireless network/mobile sharing

I know that feature, but for that I have to pay monthly charge and also it has a limit, I do not want either.
Even with root I am unable to get tethering apps to work with this phone. I've tried easy tether pro and Wi-Fi tether for root users.
What provider are you guys on?

don't have an answer for you if you don't have root but for those that do I use Wifi Tether for Root found here (https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/). Its not perfect I usually have to start and stop it a couple of times before my Mac will recognize it. As well you can use this (http://www.clockworkmod.com/) for usb tethering, I got it working on my linux box, but the PC app does not work on my Mac OS X Mavericks.
Foxfi, I tried it on the Verizon store demo and it worked fine lol. I havent bought it yet, still thinking about it but Foxfi woeked just fine on it.
