Just reflash the custom rom. Now just follow steps 1-6 from "Partition SD Card" to make an ext partition. Make sure to backup your SD Card before that. To install the script, just follow steps 1-4 from "Alternate Mod". All these guidelines are based on the link you gave above. You should be able to install CronMod by now. Do post the result. Hope I Helped

[CWM][CM7][HC][NOOKCOMB][PHIREMOD]CWM for Flashing Roms to SDcard + More! [6/22]

Hello all you ROM SD'ers out there!
**First off, thank you to all the real devs out there who've sacrificed their time and energy in getting the roms available here to where it is! And of course credit goes to the original creator of CWM. Side note, I was able to prepare this CWM image because of a blog I read somewhere regarding preparing a dualboot setup on a single SDcard. I can't remember. I'll give credit when I do.**
I've prepared a modified CWM image that is sd-bootable for flashing the latest roms to your SDcard.
*CM7 roms prepared by me will not touch your data partition. So all your apps and setup should remain. However certain roms that I've prepped may need to format data and system on your SDcard. So please read through this post for more details*
-You need have a CM7 SDcard already prepared. Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989637 Thanks verygreen!
-Download modified CWM image zip file.
-Burn to a second SDcard (that you will only need for this procedure)
-Download attached CM7v22 flashable zip from this post only.
-Copy the CM7v22 SD-Card.zip to the SDcard partition (4th partition) of your CM7-SD (if you cannot see it in your PC, use ADB)
-Power off nook
-Place modified CWM sdcard that you just burned
-Boot to CWM off the CWM SDcard
-Remove CWM SDcard
-Insert your CM7-SD card
-Goto mounts and storage and "mount SDcard"
-Goto top menu and "install zip from SDcard"
-Choose CM7v22 SD-Card.zip
-Confirm "yes"
-This will install the CM7v22 system, including the latest kernel and Ramdisk(I've modded the ramdisk so it stays SD bootable)
-Let it do it's thing, it will take a little bit, might not show progress immediately. Just be patient.
-If you wish to flash Gapps or Dalingrins OC Kernel you can do so now as well
-When install is complete. Leave your CM7 SDcard in there and choose "reboot system now"
-CM7 logo will show for several minutes, be patient and it should eventually come up.
-Enjoy!
**Only use my modified CWM image and flashable zip from here, or else it will mess up your internal. Do not use this CWM sd to flash anything else other than what is stated above! And do not use this to format any partitiions!**
**The usual disclaimers: Backup, backup, did I say backup? Just in case. And oh yeah, I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your nook or your sanity if something goes wrong.
**Edit 3/21-If your PC is unable to mount your 4th partition. There are two ways you can go about it.**
1-Samuelhalff has an app that can do that for you "NookColorUMS" (Thank you sir!) You can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456. Just choose "Mount SD (4) Fourth Partition" and that should mount it to your PC or Mac, and just drag and drop the latest nightly from here. You should be good to go after that.
2 -Or you can use adb and mount the partition your self. In adb shell run the following command:
#echo /dev/block/mmcblk1p4 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
That should mount your 4th partition to your PC. Drag and drop the file over. And you should be good to go.**
Click to collapse
**Edit 3/23 - Nightlies 30 and on will have the vold.fstab edited so that it will mount the 4th partition to the SDCard folder instead of boot.**
**Edit 3/28 - Thanks to deeper-blue, CM team, Samuelhalff for getting HC to where it is today. I've added a flashable .zip file for anyone that wants to try out samuelhalff's tweaked Honeycomb version. I've also included a dualboot setup(thanks to rookie1) with my CWM_SD. So if you ever wanted to flash anything in the future, just drop it in the SDcard(4th) partition of your SDcard. Hold the HOME button to boot into CWM_SD and flash from there. Leave it alone to boot normally. This will wipe your current rom from your SDcard and install Honeycomb. It is recommended to perform a nandroid backup of your SDcard with my CWM version.**
**Edit 3/30 - There was an error on my part in the edify script. Thanks to "smartmind" for pointing it out. Fixed and uploaded updated version 0.1.
Thanks to rookie1. I've updated a flashable zip that will install my CWM to your SDcard as a dualboot.
1-Once installed you no longer need my CWM_SDcard to flash your nightlies. When booting hold the home button to go into recovery for SD. Leave it alone and it will boot up normally.
2-You can also do a nandroid backup of your CM7_SD. As well as a restore back onto your SD. Tested and working!**
**Edit 3/31 - Uploaded a flashable zip for "mikegonz" NookieComb. Thank you sir. If you want to enjoy a near Honeycomb experience and want all the available features of NookieFroyo (flash, dsp, less apps FC issues) Then I suggest you give his rom a go. After flashing the rom to your SDcard. Please head over to his thread and download some necessary files needed to get the full honeycomb experience. If you enjoy the rom, please go over this his thread here and thank him.
**This will format your /data and /system! So please make a nandroid backup of your current SDcard rom with my modded CWM in case you want to revert**
**Edit 4/5- Uploaded a flashable zip for PHIREMOD's v5.3 Rom (THANK YOU SIR!). His rom is based on CM7 RC4 release. So it is very stable. And I must say, blazing fast. And I'm running it on a 2gb Class 2 card. If you enjoy the rom, please go over this his thread here and thank him.
**This will format your /data and /system! So please make a nandroid backup of your current SDcard rom with my modded CWM in case you want to revert**
**Edit 4/15- Uploaded NookieComb v0.4.13 and Phiremod Nook v6.[/COLOR]
**Both of these roms will format your /data and /system! So please make a nandroid backup of your current SDcard rom with my modded CWM in case you want to revert**
**Edit 5/5- Uploaded latest CM7 nightly. Also uploaded Divine_Madcat's Honeycomb RC1 Update (working su, market, sound). If you enjoy his work. Please head over to his thread here and thank him!
**The Honeycomb RC1 Update will format your /data and /system! So please make a nandroid backup of your current SDcard rom with my modded CWM in case you want to revert**

**Edit 6/22- Uploaded latest Phiremod v7-Test Build.
**This is a wipe only update** So the .zip will wipe /data and /system. Make a backup of all your apps. Well I went ahead and made it easier for everyone. So I packaged the whole Phiremod v7-Test as a CWM-SD Flashable zip. This will install phiremod-nook-v7-test, gapps, and will install the launcher-pro backup to the sdcard partition for you.
-All you have to do is download the 'phiremod-nook-v7-TEST-SD-CWM-package.zip' file, no need to extract anything
-Boot into CWM-SD and flash the package zip file
-Reboot when done
-It will prompt with 2 different options on startup, choose "Setup Wizard"
-For some reason it won't get past that, even when touching the Android guy, to get around this touch all 4 corners of the nook screen starting with:
1. top left hand corner
2. top right hand corner
3. bottom right hand corner (just above the 'change language' button)
4. bottom left hand corner (just above the 'emergency' button)
-That should get you to the main screen.
-Connect to a wireless network
-Market will not populate correctly, so go into the app drawer and choose 'Talk'
-That should give you an option to add a google account
-Once completed go back to the main screen and goto options--> preferences --> and restore the launcher pro backup
-You should now see Market on the home screen
-Don't forget to thank the devs!
-Personal thank you to "bdeville" for testing the .zips for me before I borked any more installations!
If I've helped in someway, can I get a thank you!
Thanks everyone,
Racks

Cool! Trying Now... Just need to ask... Was I on the right track as I asked in the CWR 3.0.1.0 thread earlier today?

Hey guys.
I prepared my CM7 SDcard [step one] via burning the .img to my SD via dd. Then, step 3 involves burning another .img to my card. Won't the two .imgs overwrite each other if I use dd?
Can I get a little more detail in these sections? Everything else makes perfect sense. Cheers.

You're going to be using 2 different SD's.... one that has the original CM7 SD card version from verygreen... the other is for CWM....
Set the CM7 card to the side... burn a CWM SD... this is the one you will boot CWM from... is all it is used for.
Copy the update CM7 zip file to the root of the CM7 SD card to use for upgrading the same card.
Hopefully this cleared it up for you.
Perfect. Thanks for the explanation.
Bump...
OP updated with latest nightly, gapps, and dalingrins OC kernel.
Please let me know how it works out for everyone. If there are any issues or what not so that I may make any needed corrections.
Thanks again everyone,

Thanks for pulling this together. I was able to update my SDcard pretty easily. Although, I ran across two issues that I had to address that I thought I'd share:
1. I couldn't copy the file to my SDcard from my computer because the Boot partition (1) was only 117MB in size with about 1/2 of it used. Since the .zip file was 81MB, there wasn't enough room. My solution was to download the file directly into the Nook using the browser, following by using File Manager to copy it to the topmost location (or /sdcard). Although, when I went into CWM, I think I could have left it in the download directory rather than move it.
2. I previously edited my vold.fstab file in order for it to point to my fourth partition, which is about 2GB in size, rather than to my boot partition (1), which is only 117MB. I adb pushed it from my computer and all was fine. I may keep a copy of this file on my sdcard so that I can just replace it using file manager going forward. That way I can do the entire process without the need to connect to a computer.
Hope this is helpful.

Glad you got it working. But doesn't the sdcard partition mount when you plug the sdcard into your pc using a micro sdcard reader? That's how i did mine. boot and sd should mount since they are vfat partitions. You shouldn't be copying to the boot partition because when using the Modded CWM from this thread and when mounting sdcard. It mounts the sdcard partition from your CM7 Sd. Which is where the CM7 zip should preside.
I do appreciate the feedback though.
Thanks,

I was planning to redo this just a bit to be able to put you uImage -> uRecImg and uRamdisk -> uRecRam on my normal CM7 SDcard to be able to get down to a single card with merged boot partition but figured that I would just verify what I thought you did to get CWR to install to the SDcard (/dev/block/mmcblk1p?) vs. EMMC (/dev/block/mmcblk0p?) and I'm thinking you missed an edit on the cache partition as I don't think you want to use the EMMC cache for the SDcard?

I was planning to redo this just a bit to be able to put you uImage -> uRecImg and uRamdisk -> uRecRam on my normal CM7 SDcard to be able to get down to a single card with merged boot partition but figured that I would just verify what I thought you did to get CWR to install to the SDcard (/dev/block/mmcblk1p?) vs. EMMC (/dev/block/mmcblk0p?) and I'm thinking you missed an edit on the cache partition as I don't think you want to use the EMMC cache for the SDcard?

Yes you are correct regarding the cache. I left it as is , without creating tmp cache partition. I'll update when I get a chance next time around.

Hey! Thanks for this. This is going to save me a lot of time, but I was enjoying the research. lol
Two questions, If I have modified my 4th partition (sdcard) of my bootable CM-7 SD and modified the vold files accordingly, to utilize the existing space on my SD card, would this have any impact on running any of your procedures in the op? Would I loose my partition at any time during the process?
Perhaps a dumb question:
If I use this method with CM7 nightly 25 on an SD card running nightly 19, will I lose my applications and data? Or just OC kernel?

No it should'nt. You might have to redo your vold file, but your 4th partition should stay intact.

Not a dumb question at all. I should mention this in my OP actually. It will not touch your data partition. So all your apps and setup should remain. Your Google apps should remain as well. Only /system files are updated. OC kernel will be replaced, that's why I included the flashable OC zip as well in the OP. Use the zip and flash with my modded CWM and it will update your kernel.

No.
It only shows the first partition, regardless of what the file systems are.
However, one can do the same thing by using ADB to push the zip file to the /sdcard/ folder.

Drat. Nope, CWM SD will not allow me to mount my extended sdcard 4th partition.
Easy enough though, to start over. I have a current sd version I pulled and saved to my PC prior to extending my partition. So no biggie. But as a way to easily do nightlys, not so easy.
If indeed the SDcard partition is the issue, it would be nice if it was not limited to the 2gig image. The 2gig, as you know, is really intended as a Bluetooth test, not practical as a daily runner for me due to storage size limitations. In addition, Verigreen stated he might this weekend, write CM7 SD versions that will just fill the remaining space of a given sd card with the 4th SDcard partition.
I'll look for a work around and report back with any success. I wonder if will not mount because of the 4th part ion size or the High Capacity micro-SD card? Mine is a Sandisk 8gig.
Wonder how hard it would be to modify your CWM sd for variably sized SDcard partitions?

[Q] SD ext Partition: What did I miss?

First of all, I apologize in advance. I searched through everything and can't find my question. I'm a complete smartphone noob (got my first one a couple days ago--Canada's wireless providers are criminally expensive and I boycotted them as long as I could) and, while I'm reasonably good at technical things overall, I'm totally inexperienced here, with smartphones in general, Android, and it's parent OS Linux.
That out of the way: I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, with Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it, through the provider Koodo. I am loving this phone, but I'm not entirely sure why certain things didn't work. There were apps I couldn't download due to a lack of space (despite a mostly empty 16GB microSD card), and apps that wouldn't install for other reasons. And always that frighteningly small 158MB system drive staring me in the face. So I decided to try to fix it.
I carefully read every bunch of instructions I could find and understand. Successfully rooted the phone. Installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I repartitioned the SD card with a big ext partition and swap space using CWM. I installed CF-Root-S5830_dtapps2sd-v1.2.zip successfully, and App2SD from the market.
This hasn't helped my free space at all. Nothing seems to be using that new ext partition. My available space did not go up at all...but (of course) my SD card space went down by the size of the new partitions.
I was under the impression there were kernels that could help your phone treat the SD card ext partitions like system space, but I can't figure out where or how for the life of me. Everything has worked, but it hasn't actually done anything.
-NoobGrrl
ur cf-root is not the latest, and I think if u make sd card partition by using cwm, the format will be ext3 not ext4.. so, u should try this step :
1. flash the latest cf-root v37-b82 through cwm from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197
2. partition ur sd card by using minitool partition wizard (google it) and make ext4 format.
3. flash the latest darktremor through cwm (don' forget to mount system n sd card) from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
4. install a2sd gui from market... done..
You probably forgot to move the dalvik cache to sd-ext from A2SDGUI.
To begin with, as you haven't done this before, I recommend you download the app link2sd rather than app2sdgui. Your system will be ext3 from CWM. Select and reboot. Then return to link2sd and you can move apps one by one or by batch installation to your partition by creating a "link". This method gives you finer control over which apps to move. It shows file sizes and how much of the app will be moved. After moving the apps reboot and hey presto - free internal memory.
I also recommend getting an app called DiskUsage to see what is taking up space and a file browser with root functions. I use Root Browser by jrummy16 - free on market.
Sent from a phone with an app.
First of all, thanks for the replies! I like the detailed instructions from musf especially...step-by-step for me is really the best way.
Okay, tried to follow those directions exactly. Minitool Partition Wizard has reformated the little 2GB partition I made on the SD card to ext4. Most recent CF-Root and dtapp2sd zips seemed to install fine. I think I mounted all the drives...I just do it from CWM, yes?
Downloaded A3SDGUI and it gives me an error:
Exiting A3SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
1. Your device is not rooted (it is, superuser shows access granted to A3SDGUI)
2. A3SD scripts could not be found (if so, no idea why.)
3. No EXT partition found (again, no idea why.)
Edit: Tried Link2SD and it gave an error as well, "Mount script could not be created. No such device."
Okay, so obviously it doesn't see my SD card's partition. So I put it back in my PC and recreated it again. No change at all...
yes from cwm, choose the "mount n storage" menu, then moutn system, then mount sdcard, then instal the darktremor zip file..
That seems to have almost worked...yes, I was mounting the drives after running DT. Duh. (I assumed somehow that DTapp2sd allowed me to set up the drives and I was telling the phone to mount it afterward so it could be used. I didn't realize DTapp2sd just needed to write to the drive.)
Almost. Almost worked.
Now, app2sd actually starts up successfully, no errors. (link2sd still gives the same error.) However, App2SD can't actually move anything. All items remain disabled, even after selecting them.
So then I remember the post above about the dalvik cache. So I go into App2SD and try to move it to the sd-ext folder, and it tells me there is not enough space. I have 124 MB of system memory left right now...and the SD card is mostly empty.
Follow the following instructions and tell me if they work:
(redo the steps even if you have done them already)
1. download cwm5 from the forum and place it into your sd card.
2. make a backup of your sd card and reboot your phone into recovery.
3. flash cwm5 file and reboot the recovery.
4. from the recovery, re-partition your card with a ext partition (you dont need more than 256-512mb. I have 16gb card and mine is only 256mb).
5. select swap if you want it.
6. ~partitioning complete~
7. Connect your phone to your computer with usb wire (while in recovery.)
8. mount usb storage from recovery.
9. copy the cfroot file to your memory card from pc.
10. unmount the usb storage.
11. mount system, sdcard, sd-ext (just to be on safe side) and flash with cfroot.
12. reboot.
13. open a2sdgui.
14. click yes, apps are on sd!, zipalign on boot is on!.
15. set swap if you want it.
16. from dalvik, click on dalvik cache on sd-ext and click move and rebuild.
17. your phone should reboot and you will be done
Notes: Its normal that after flashing a2sd script, your phone restarts a coupe of times so just leave it alone for a moment.
Don't forget to give superuser permission to a2sdgui.
If you still get some error, sty flashing the script again.
If it still doesn't get through, search for the dt a2sd beta 4 script and flash that from recovery. Other steps are the same!
Happy FLASHING

first, cwm 5 is for cm7 based rom, dunno what'll happen if used on stock gb.. n second, point 4 can't be used, it'll make ext3 not ext4..
uninstall the link2sd then reflash the dta2sd (mount!) or uninstal the dt then reflash link2sd.. can't use both, they're like fire n water, lol.. u must choose..

I think cwm5 should work and i made it using point 4 and it works perfectly.
p.s. sd-ext are normally ext2, not ext3 or ext4. ext4 is normally used in internal.
EDIT: No it dsn't. Use cwm4. I guess that one has partitioning option too right? O easy way out, flash to ics1.2

Go to recovery, Wipe cache/system/data. (make sure you have made a backup of your data.)
Mount the stuff and flash with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258830
You have a new rom with dt a2sd running within
I'm going to try a different version of dtapp2sd first.
Should the ext and swap partitions be logical or primary?
I'm starting to think my EXT partition is not formatting properly in mini partition tool. Unfortunately CWM uses Ext3 and I'm told it's worse than Ext4 and Ext2 is better than both for an SD card.
Both primary. 1st one should be fat32 and second one should be ext2.
Well, good news and bad news. After some work, reformatting the partitions again, reflashing a new kernel, I finally got it working.
Trouble is, it's not stable. Apps keep crashing, the "Gallery" app only shows a black screen, and it randomly loses access to the FAT32 partition when running, and the SIM card occasionally says "Unrecognized" (forcing me to "restore to factory.")
*sighs*
Flash to the rom i linked you to.

Nook Tablet- [Q] How to enable internal storage ( appear as My Nook)

i have followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1531120
And i'm running CM7. I can't access to the internal storage as My Nook like everyone does. I'm a user
Please anyone show me how to make the internal storage mount when plug into the PC ?
I'v read a lot from many threads but mostly for developer so no images at all. I can't follow them step by step and don't know which step i needed to enable mount for the internal storage.
Sorry if this annoy & make people think that i'm lazy
Hello your link gives 404 error , modify it please.
About internal storage what version of CM7 are you running? the beta version fixed this issue so if you have the alpha final version i suggest you to update. But if you indeed have the latest beta build then try making all wipes (factory reset, cache and dalvik cache) then reflash the ROM.

Hello, is your device the 8gb or 16gb model? also your problems started when you installed TWRP recovery or when you had CWM recovery?
~ V
my nook is a 16gb model. The problem started when i was in CWM recovery, i can't flash the cm9.zip so i tried out sth and end up like this
Now my nook tablet has no OS . Can just boot into TWRP
Go to my recovery thread in development section and follow the instructions to flash the internal recovery 0.05.1 (CM9 specific) from a CWM recovery sdcard also from there flash CM9 ROM if you have it in internal sdcard. Otherwise you'll have to to boot into internal cwm recovery and flash the ROM from another sdcard or the same sdcard you used after format it first with SD formatter software for windows (recommended)

No no you have to flash internal recovery FROM a cwm recovery sdcard. Read again my post carefully and follow all the tutorial I have posted in my recovery thread. Use the CM9 internal recovery as I suggested.
You can't flash a recovery.zip from internal recovery on the nook tablet, at list not yet.

S5830i - recovery mode - e: can't mount /sdcard

Hi all.
I used to have a rooted Ace (5830i) and I wantet to install a different ROM from SD card. Entering Recovery Mode, I was not able to install the ROM. I got the following message:
E: failed to mount SDcard (No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount /Sdcard
Meanwhile I am back to an unrooted system, but the problem is the same.
I've been through the search but nothing helps.I would love to re-partitionate the sdcard, but it also doesn't show up when I'm connected to PC, so I cannot make a backup.
My aim is to have a rooted system and the sdcard mounted correctly.
Any suggestions? -pleeeease-

I think we should try to install original firmware for S5830i, with Odin.
You can read here and here.
Try first to understand what you want to do.
If you're not sure that you understand, looking to read more.
Be very careful and you'll succeed.

I have the problem since I would flash CWM6, but that version is for GT-S5830 and I have a GT-S5830i (but the site where I downloaded that says that it's for GT-S5830 and GT-S5830i) In the recovery mode there's an error that /system can't mount. How can I fix that?

Normally when somebody soft-bricked his/her device , i would go with the solution @ post#4 , instruction part . But you have access to recovery and assuming you were on stock Rom /Stock kernel, before bricking it mate . For you device I would strongly suggest temporary CWM 5.0.2.6/5.0.2.8 zip flash-able file from here for instance ( for CWM6+ , you can read my explanation, why i did not recommended it for now ; post#6 ). Put this zip file inside root of your SD card / pick one custom Rom based on stock kernel , which is already rooted ( i,e: GB 2.3.6 & Stock Kernel] Ace-i-Sure v.12.0.0 ) > inside root of SD card as well.
Now follow this procedure :
- Turn off your phone
- Go to recovery mode (Stock Recovery 3e) <<Home screen button + Power button + Volume up key>>
- Select install update from SD and select the CWM temp zip file , flash it and get into CWM
- wipe data / reset; Wipe cache partition ; Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache
-Mounts and storage > Format the following partitions : /data ; /system/ ; /cache ; /sd-ext if available .
-Mount and storage > mount everything you see (when something is mounted then it will show "unmount". If it shows "mount" then it is not mounted)
-Flash the ROM. (Install zip from sd card) follow the process inside the OP of ROM :
Select wipe data / reset and Confirm the action
Select wipe cache partition and Confirm the action
Select install zip from sd and select the rom zip file & Confirm the action
-Reboot

Can it be done on Lubuntu 14.10? (I don't have Windows)

I have not ever used the phone on Linux.
There are several alternatives for Linux, but I think a little more difficult.
So.
If you want to use Odin, now or in the future, you should get a PC or a Laptop with Windows.
You will also need to install on Windows the drivers for Samsung.

I know that there is a tool called Heimdall and it's available for Linux, OS X and Windows and it does the same as Odin. Could I use that tool or is @ehsanotaku solution better/safer?

@ehsanotaku gave you all the explanations you need.
"Would i go with the solution @ post # 4" here also he refer to Odin.
But also refers to a custom ROM which I installed myself on a S5830i and witch it is ok.
For Odin you need a firmware for S5830i.
You can download it from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-S5830i/BTU/
This address is found also in the explanations of @ehsanotaku.
I know about Heimdall, but I have not used, as long as Odin works very well.
So.
Read carefully all posts of @ehsanotaku.

I think we should try to install original firmware for S5830i, with Odin.
You can read here and here.
Try first to understand what you want to do.
If you're not sure that you understand, looking to read more.
Be very careful and you'll succeed.

Can I download the PDA.tar from here and flash it on my phone using:
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel PDA.tar
and then install Ace-i-Sure?
What should I do now @beegeero or @ehsanotaku?
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
@wb9688, OK , I start with what methods do not work on your Lubuntu 14.10 , which is in reality a light weight flavor of Ubuntu , based on Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment of course . You are either on a very old PC or suffering from a low spec such as Ram etc etc , So I am assuming chance of making a dual boot system with minimum 1 GB ram and probably very low storage hard is out of the picture , correct me if i am wrong . 1-Virtualization with the help of Virtualbox/parallel/Vmware and creating of virtual guest machine for windows 7/xp/8 inside of your Ubuntu based OS won't work , because in virtual environment Phone work only in USB Mass Storage mode but not in download mode. 2-Heimdall cross - platform do not work on Ace devices , this solution is only applied to Galaxy S and tab variant such as :
GT-I9000
GT-I9100[T]
GT-I9300
GT-I9505
SGH-I727
SGH-I777
SGH-I927
SGH-I797
please do not flash kernel and that pda.tar .
3.Making a boot- able windows 7 USB might let you to install Odin, never tested it ( For requirement and tools , Google it )
4.Wine does not convert Odin executable successfully as far as i know .
let's back to the instruction at hand mate , which obviously failed to format your /system partition manually , due to incorrect recovery image you did use possibly or other thing you have done and did not provide sufficient output for troubleshooting .
Another alternative that does not require flashing Odin over windows is ,the EXT4 Formatter tool ( formats important partitions into RFS <stock fw> or ext4 and vice verse to get out of this part) .
After wiping data /cache/Dalvik , rather than formatting /system manually; flash this tool < post#8> put it inside the root of SD card .
If your partitions being transformed into RFS , without st19 Invalid argument and such , proceed with the rest of the instruction .
IF your partitions being transformed into ext4 , you need to follow post#4 , starts from line '- Flash kernel_CM7_v4.0_cooperVe ....' no need to say you must put SLIM_CM7.2_Cooperve #4 and kernel inside the root of SD card .
If all failed , the only option to counter /system partition corruption is Odin , as i explained the whole process in post#4 . ( make sure to flash correct CWM this time ).
Today I was by a friend (with a Windows notebook) and try to flash that pda.tar using odin, but odin don't view my phone and Windows give the error "device is not good connected"...

You need to use 3 parts-split wipe package as i have instructed ( PDA/MODEM/CSC) , pit file and boot loader ; re-partition enabled , not a single pda file; Please read to understand my comments provided for you . For connection issues , make sure you have installed appropriate drivers and other requirements have met ( this post )
Edit: did you try my previous proposal in regards of formatter tools ?
