The s5 camera is slightly better. But you do know that your wife can't get your note 3 right? If you jump, you trade in the note 3.

I'll assume you meant G2. But to answer your question, the S5 camera is good and it doesn't lag at all even on stock. The question is can you live without the s pen?

Then if you can spare the $70 in tax, go ahead and upgrade. It's a really good phone, no doubt about it.

If you going for the camera than get the s5..but in every other area the HTC m8 and g3 are better. The quality of the galaxy line has decreased since the s3

Which is your own opinion.
The S5 is overall a great phone. If you (OP) don't have to drop any large amount of money for the S5 then yes go for it. I had the S4 before the S5 and while i was disappointed with the S5 release specs (mainly lack of a QHD display), the device lasts forever. Battery is stupendous, display is incredible, and the CPU is very powerful. I thought the S5 wouldn't be a huge jump up from the S4, and while i would have liked the QHD and the 806 i believe, snapdragon processor, i'm still very happy with the S5.
I was considering the G3, which spec wise is prolly the only other phone that comes close to the S5. But the camera honestly is a killer on this phone.

I still pick the Note over the HTC one X....
The One X should win hands down performance wise. It also has a nice design but I still prefer my note's huge screen.

This.
Obviously the Tegra 3 would beat the Note in terms of raw performance.
But I love the Note because of it's versatility. It's more than just a phone.
Two things make the Note the winner in my eyes. The screen, and the fact that I hate Sense. Samsung has screens on lock, and I couldn't go away from Super AMOLED or this 5.3" beauty. And I know Sense is easily dealt with by custom launchers and such, but the icons still bug me in the app drawer.
Plus, I don't have any complaints with my Note's performance, so any performance improvements from here will really only interest me if they improve battery life with similar performance...that, or I want to be able to hook my phone up to a controller and HDTV and play Battlefield 3 online.
Didn't read that article, but I'm gonna say that I still prefer Note over the One X.
I usually "rent" the newest phones for a couple of months before returning it, but I still haven't tried out the intl One X yet (and probably gonna pass on it).
Other than some casual skimming online, the One X looks like it's barely even better than the original GS2 (if at all...)
Although it looks like the One series is something "different"...I'm not too sure how fast HTC can recover from consecutive quarters of having decreasing profits.
That's what happened from them releasing EVO rehashes....whereas Samsung actually released newer upgraded stuff.
Coming from the htc evo I already hate htc with there crappy sence stuff... The evo was a cool phone for a bit and the new htc one x looks nice but im loving samsungs screens and i love the huge screen on my note... I would rather stick to my note!!!

I'd prefer the international HTC One X over the AT&T Galaxy Note, but if we're comparing both AT&T versions, I'd go for the Note.
I am sticking with the note. I hate when he does the quadrant on the note. That's not accurate. I would get 3200 on stock. He has to many rogue apps running. My SERAPHIM ICS ROM averages 3500 quadrant. So that is a unfair comparison.

The ones has awesome battery life? I thought it did not, and I don't like the fact that a battery can't be swapped out.
The ones looks nice but I like my Note, especially since I got it 2 months ago and I have probably about 16 months until upgrade eligible!
I'm not as worried about the non-swap battery as I am the lack of a MicroSd slot. While I generally don't bump up against the internal storage max, I always feel more comfortable knowing I can add additional storage if (and I always seem to add a card ) I want/need to.
I have to say that I love my note and other than rooting it at present, I am sticking with stock till ICS or a really stable ROM comes along.

Not to mention they're comparing the international OneX to the AT&T note which for most people here makes no sense (haha, get it?). The AT&T OneX will only have a dual core 1.5GHz Snapdragon which is found in the Note because the Tegra 3 doesn't support LTE. So this thread is kind of pointless. The Note has a bigger and better screen, better UI, and everything else is about the same between the two.
Oh and a non-removable battery and no memory expansion? What are we, Iphone users now?
I am pretty confident the ATT One X is going to have the S4 anyway... No LTE support on the Tegra 3.

look at the specs page. Yes it will only have a dual core. That's honestly what killed it for me. From this note I'll step up to a phone with a quad core that also support LTE. Now since no such device exists yet, I'll be here for a while.

Yeah. I don't know why they bothered comparing the two. The S4 will outperform our S3 for sure. But the Tegra 3 isnt even applicable.

If you mean why did the websites compare the two? Probably because they're both the new edgy devices and wanted more readers to think that they had something insightful to day. Or they were just bored and wanted to kill all our time.
If you mean the OP? I'd probably say they were bored.
How did this guy manage to get 2254 in quadrant on the note? I got over 3500 out of the box...

How is the radio vs the VZW Galaxy S3?

Hi,
I am debating on upgrading from the S3 on Verizon. I am thinking about either the Note 3 or the G2. Any thoughts from former Galaxy S3 users?
Thanks,
Rich
Although I can't say much about the radio on the Note 3, the G2's radio is perfectly usable. It works as intended, and I haven't run into any issues on the standard ROM so far.
verizon g2 radio is very good imo. its better then my note 2 :good:
Note 3 is nice if u plan on using a stylus go for it but i never used mine on my note 2 and am glad to be back to one handed operation again and still have a big battery and large display.
I compared these today in the store. This was the result
G2 - 93db
S3 - 98db
S4 - 98db
HTC One - 93db
Moto X - 96db
This was inside a mall holding all in the same spot and waiting for a few seconds to ensure it was stable.
Not super scientific, but close enough.

Thanks, I played with it in the store for a moment but my 3 year old had other plans on occupying my time at the store. It felt much zippier than my S3. The fact that you can root it is also great but it doesnt look like there is much development on it. Though the Note 3 looks pretty empty too.
I am running CM10 on my S3 & it just doesnt feel as fast as it used to. Maybe I am just interested in another phone though.

My last phone was the S3. I live in the back of an apartment building well-shielding (unfortunately) from cell service. My SGS3 would drop calls ALL THE TIME. It was super frustrating.
Anyway, haven't had a single drop since I got the G2... I love the fact that it works as a PHONE when I need it to.
I still havent pulled the trigger on the G2 but am thinking of doing so. I am wondering if it is a decent boost in speed vs the S3. I pretty much go straight to the CM10 roms & it looks like the G2 is supported now.
Any feedback or comments?
Coming from an S3 (Verizon), side-by-side on CM the G2 definitely has more horsepower. I notice it most when loading and switching between apps. The signal strength is way better on the G2. could hardly ever make a call from in my basement apartment on the S3. No problem making calls with this. I also see near double the battery life. Seriously. That, and the display is great, albeit the viewing angles aren't quite as good. The Note is just a hair to big for me to use comfortably, but this feels just right. I have no regrets. Currently running OSE rom. Waiting on a stable 4.4

Thinking about swapping my Note 3 for a lg anyone else done this?

Het guys. I love my note 3. The speed is incredible as is the screen, etc.
My main gripes is that the note 3 is a bit hard to navigate 1 handed. Its a extreme stretch with your thumb.
The note 3 is also extremely boxy and flat with sharper edges.
I havent held a G2 yet but it looks much more comfortable to hold.
Another draw to the g2 over the n3 is im on verizon. It does not look good for a full bootloader unlock on the n3 right now. Where the g2 is wide open.
Whay do you guys think?
The spen is great but I dont use it much after the novelty wore off.my 5 yr old likes to doodle. But we already have a note 10.1 2014 for that.
Support wise for Lg. I hear many bad things. However this does not seem the case as I also have a lg g3 google tv and when I called support they where great.
Updates we wont know for a while. But on the lg google tv they were the first for upates. It seems like they are really stepping up thier game as of late.
Plus on the g2 we should see custom roms on kitkat etc where again on the vzw note 3 we only have root and early safestrap biuldsbuilds.

I played with the Note 3 and G2 a lot at the store. I was leaning for the Note 3 but it was just to big to use one handed.
I got the G2 instead and after really using it, I'm glad I did. The stock LG rom feels like it's based off some AOKP build cause it just has a ton of features. Also the Note 3 doesn't have any dev yet, still locked. I heard updates get delayed cause SPen, and on custom roms the pen loses its flair.

Doubt it since I think watchon is specifically designed for the TW framework. If you want to do some G2 vs Note 3 reading then check out this long thread.
went from a note 2 to a g2 and really like this phone. i liked my note 2 also but it was a 2 handed device. i never used the s pen on my note 2.
I used the Note 3 for a month. Great phone, but it's a little too big. Especially in the pocket; I feel like I'm going to break it when sitting down or bending over. It's a pain using it one-handed too, due to the shape and weight. As cool as the Note 3 is, I missed the size of the Galaxy S4.
I was ready to find someone to swap a Galaxy S4 for my Note 3 when I read about the G2. Checked out a bunch of reviews and lots of YouTube videos and was sold on the G2.
A friend was doing an upgrade and wanted the Note 3, so I told her to save a hundred bucks and get the G2 and I'd swap her my Note 3 outright. I've had the G2 for several days now and I am very happy that we swapped. This phone suits me better. It just feels so good in the hand and the interface is very nice and snappy. Very pleased!

I ordered a Meenova external drive for now. But I would prefer an external memory card. We'll see. If someone wants to swap I'd do it. If not I'll keep my G2 as it's a great phone. Mine is rooted running Clean rom and I use the Incipio Feather case. If LG had built this phone with a memory card slot it would be the perfect device.
I chose the G2 because Note 3 speaker was so horrible...it was a deal breaker for me. I came from a HTC One. However, I do miss having a removable battery and a memory card slot. I had the original S2, Skyrocket and Galaxy Note maybe I might jump back to a Samsung in the near future if no other manufacturers have those options that I miss. I'd have to admit though, the G2 really surprised me! IMO, it should be considered top smartphone of the year.

I switched from the note 3 to the g2 and I think it was a good move. The g2 in my opinion has better battery life and the size is perfect. Note 3 was a little too big. G2 is just as speedy and with 32gb I don't need the SD card slot. I was also getting sick of touchwiz since I had the note 2 and the s4, its a good change with the g2.

Knock on is genius and with the audio mod it's much better for music, storage is a problem but manageable and battery is very similar. I really don;t like the shiny back so looking to get a skin to add some grip but otherwise don't regret the switch
I just finished with my decision tonight. Had the Note 3 for three weeks and thought it was great, it was a tough decision. I ended up changing to the G2 tonight, here's why:
-Note 3 has OS 4.3 which gives Photo+ with awesome movie creation, too bad I couldn't actually get it to save a movie. I am convinced its a bug in the OS, who knows how long before they fix it
-I could rarely get a picture I liked, motion blur was a real big issue for me. Could be I'm just a bad photographer, I rely on the auto modes
-G2 knock on feature is awesome, can't live without it
-G2 has just some cool features I really liked, popup SMS and calls. I know you can add apps to do the same but it's built in.
-G2 has a notepad, not as nice as the s-pen notepad but good enough for short scribbles that actually work with a finger
G2 just had more of what was important to me.

dilemma to upgrade to G2

Hi friends, i have been owning htc one x since nearly 20 months now, and i feel the urge to upgrade due to the pathetic battery issues of the phone... I was eying the new htc one m8, however the ugly black bold bezels are a deal breaker for me... I am eager to switch to the G2 however should i wait for the sony z2 to be reviewed? So i'm confused between the G2 and Z2.. One thing that annoys me though is the non expandable memory on G2.. Also the G3 is around the corner, is it worth a wait?? Thanks

Honestly I think the G2 is worth every penny. So if you are looking to get a new device soon, I would highly recommend it.
Of course, if there is no hurry, there is no reason not to wait for future devices. If you absolutely must have the latest of the latest, then I suppose waiting is an option, but if you want a high quality device at this time, the G2 is an excellent option!
I had a One X, which I killed... Argh. In between, I had a Nexus 4. But from what I recall, you're in for a shock with regard to battery life if you decide on a G2. I just clocked 6:30 screen on time and I'm at 10% now, plus a day's standby and this is only my first charge cycle. I considered myself lucky to get 2:30 out of the One X!

I had and loved my Note 3 on Sprint but we switched to ATT and the G2 on contract for free was a no brainer. Its easy to get excited for each new Flagship with all the hype out there but honestly this is a phone one can use for years and be totally content.
thank you friends.. i will get the g2.. and you have rightly said that the new flagships can be very tempting with the hype around them...
I think the new gen smartphones are a let down. The HTC M8 only has a 4.7" screen and about the same size as the G2, also has a smaller battery. The Galaxy S5 also has a smaller screen and battery, but it noticeably bigger in size.
The M8 can't do 4k or 120fps camera either with its 4MP camera. The GS5 doesn't have OIS. G2 camera is better still.
Each has their own perks such as fingerprint scanner and dual flash dual camera, but I dunno. Seems gimmicky. G2 just seems to be better where it counts. Plus there is lots of development with the G2.
The newer phones are using a SnapDragon 801, which is the same chip, just slightly better optimized. Outside of benchmarks, it probably won't be noticeable. Not worth taking a hit on screen size or battery or camera for.

Why I do agree with you on certain things. I do believe some things are being worked on BETTER. Like "software" optimization for battery life. I understand that some phones are coming with smaller battery life's but perhaps its a better quality type of battery and plus better battery optimization software like HTC extreme battery save. I believe they should also work on software opt in every aspect.
As for screen size. I personally wouldn't want anything bigger than the lg g2. But that's me.
But hopefully for the next lg g3 I would Like to see the rumored specs: own Odin 8 core proccesor, 16mp better ios, 2k resolution t" display, maybe SD card slot, bettttttttterrrrrrrr software ui and optimization, finger and iris scanner. Etc. That phone I would get!!

Can anyone tell me about that Optimus UI, because, from what I have seen it reminds me on Touchwizz which I personally dont like. So I'm thinking about taking Nexus 5 or G2 and I just can't decide. Currently, I have Galaxy Nexus and I like it because it's easy to root and bootloader is easily unlockable. But on the other side I really like g2's big battery and bigger screen. So, if anyone could comment me about Optimus UI and what's going on with G2's bootloader  ( I've done a lot of googling but still haven't found anything useful) Tnx in advance

Like others have said, G2 is a good phone to own, especially if you are content with having it stock. If you're into custom recoveries & roms then it's a bit of hassle in G2. A small mistake or even if there's no mistake in flashing, it can go into an eternal bootloop that's damn hard to recover from. If you are flashaholic,my advice: go for phone that has plenty of development going on.

But for the OP, the G2 isn't bad if you're happy with mostly stock KK and can deal with the button layout along with an okay camera with OIS.
Otherwise, evaluate your needs. If a great camera with high megapixel counts is needed, look Sony Xperia z2, or maybe the Galaxy S5. If different ROMs are what one craves, maybe a Nexus or GPE device. Removable battery? Samsung Galaxy phones. Stylus? Note 3. Metal body? HTC M8.
I jumped ship from a Nexus 4 due to crappy battery life. The screen and a decent camera were a bonus.
After playing with the new flagships, the HTC m8 is the only real option. And boringly the biggest reason is build quality

Exactly the same here. Could I have waited for a better phone like the Nexus 6 or HTC One? Probably, but my Nexus 4 battery was god awful. Charged it like 2-3 times a day and it took FOREVER to charge. G2's price was cheap at TMO and had to jump on it. Now battery lasts forever and charging is so damn fast.

Well it took me 6 months to realise that it wasn't my provider that had very bad coverage. So do people even know that they could be getting 6 bars of 4G instead of the 6 bars of 3G that the phone will choose? You won't know unless you actually force the phone to use LTE in the hidden menu (*#*4636#*#*).
It also seems that I am not alone, because I am not the only one who made a thread about it in Q and A and you will find a lot on Google. But you won't find a solution.

S5 rated better battery life than G2

Is this a joke? Android Authority rated the S5 with better battery life than G2 on most test cases...
Samsung Galaxy S5 triumphs in battery life tests
So what?
It also completely blows away the G2 in the gingerbread gradient department.

No idea about the s5 but, in those test results, the note 3 seems to compare favourably to the g2. My wife has a note 3 so I can quote from experience that the g2 crucifies the note 3 in every way regarding battery life.

Then get the s5. But I doubt it.
If you check the pictures better, you'll see it features the Korean LG G2 with 2610 mAh battery ... So, the international one should have a lot better battery life ...

It was a joke A lot of elements of the TouchWiz UI still have the same old gradients as they did in the gingerbread days. I can't stand them. They mix so poorly with rest of the design elements.

The Galaxy S5 lasted over 21 hours of 3G calls. That puts it ahead of the HTC One (M8) by an hour, three ahead of the Galaxy Note 3, but well behind the impressive 25 hour result of the LG G2.

Well, aren't you just a ray of sunshine!
The author never did any testing himself. It looks like he cherry picked other sources to find the ones that that S5 was tops.

Yes it is better then G2, but only with super-duper ultra mega awsome stamina mode they have. With that mode you can just recieve calls on black display without knowing who is calling you
S5 brand new. G2 6 months old. Who cares? Do you honestly expect that in the extremely rapid turnover cycle which is cell phones, for one that's 6 months old to remain king forever? Everything you buy in electronics is generally outdated the day you buy it. Get over it. I'll have this phone for 3-4 years as long as I don't break it. It's a great phone and I really don't care that new phones are definitely going to beat it in specs.
S5 is a new generation phone, but i don't think it better battery life than G2, G2 too excellent.
I think the battery technology is at a plateau currently, the focus is now on energy efficient hardware.
