Am on Orange here in the UK and the roaming indicator is always on, even though I am not roaming. Am running stock v124 with baseband v23 on a Chinese 4GB P780, is this a known problem? Anyone have any idea how to get it to recognise that I'm not roaming? Do I need to flash a new baseband? If so, which one and will this wipe the device?
I can switch off the romaing warning but then if I travel, it won't remind me to switch off data. Very annoying problem this.

Try a fabric reset. Maybe something went wrong.
Look on Sim management first and see there what settings are made.
Or try to install a custom rom, and see what happens.

Thanks Stympy, have already checked SIM management and it all looks ok. I'm going to try other local SIMs now, maybe it's a problem with my Orange SIM.
What is a fabric reset? You mean a reboot? Have tried that already.
Ok, so I tried a Vodafone, 3 and Virgin Media SIM and all of them worked fine without roaming. Looks like it is the Orange SIM so will get this replaced and report back.

I wanted to say: factory data reset.

It could be just ur sim u see i live in city of chennai but the guy gave me a tamilnadu state sim i also have the roaming indication having asked the provider he said i got a state of tamil nadu sim but i wont be charged roaming as im in chennai which is part of the state so ur prob could be the same.
Fyi im talking about city and states in india
Thanks,

Ok, so I tried a bunch of other sims from Vodafone, Three and O2 and they all work fine without any roaming indicator. I tried another Orange sim and the roaming indicator comes back. I got a brand new replacement sim from Orange and same problem.
Looks like this is specific to Orange for some reason. Haven't tried a factory reset yet, I'm guessing that won't make a difference.

Hi guys, I've just got my replacement SIM card today but there is no signal for the SIM on my Galaxy SII Gingerbread 2.3.3. I popped the SIM into my old Nokia phone and it is working fine so I'm pretty sure it's not the SIM. I googled and looked around the forum but found no solution. Already message the carrier and they say the phone is not barred while the SIM is working fine on my old Nokia phone.
In the "About phone/Status" the phone number is unknown, network is O2 UK, signal strength is ok, mobile network type is "HSDPA", service state is out of service. IMEI number is normal. When I dial any number it says "mobile network not available".
If this thread existed before, I really apologize for making a new one. Any help is really appreciated
Have you entered the network details in the phones settings ??
jje
Where'd you get the phone? Sounds like it's a SIM-locked phone...

I believe you're referring to the 3g network? If so then my problem lies in calling and texting itself. There is no network signal as there is only a circle with cross. If not, how do you enter the network detail

This phone is an international version I got from my home country Vietnam and it's already unlocked. I was using UK SIM fine until the December holiday. After I returned from Vietnam, the SIM stopped working and I ordered a replacement. Can flashing new kernel affect this cuz I tried some new one during the holiday? The IMEI is still normal though, I checked
i have a problem ...
with miui or wiui , my debit of 3G is bad. I download at 20 ko... with official rom i download a 300 ko ...
why ?

Have you tried the SIM in another phone? Or a different SIM in this phone? Could be either the SIM card is bad (which the replacement SIM will fix), or the SIM card slot on the phone went bad (which the replacement SIM WON'T fix).

Kind of rude to hijack someone else's thread... But I'll answer anyways. My guess is that your official ROM has modems more suited for your country and carrier, and MIUI (or WIUI - never heard of this one) doesn't. You can probably fix with flashing a different modem. But I can't tell you which modem to try.
I have always try e few modem and it's doesn't work .

Try some more. I doubt you've tried them all. Maybe some kind soul who is also on your carrier (which you have displayed on your profile as Orange) in your location (also in your profile as France) can tell you which one.
I popped the SIM into my old Nokia phone and it worked fine so it's not really the SIM. I was thinking maybe there is something wrong with my software but you brought up a good point about the SIM slot I'm gonna try it out and see first
ok . i will try another modem.
thanks
no, it doesn't work ... i have tried a modem who is ok with checkrom or ics or official samsung but don't work with miui . it's strange because it's ok with miui NDT
Hi, I have read, looked, read even more and I have not found one thing to help me with this.
After I rooted and tried the recovery everything was fine till I powered off and restarted, now the phone powers on and I am able to connect to wifi networks but my phone is saying that it can not connect to any mobile networks and seeing as I haven't seen a way to go back to stock. I was wondering if anyone could help because I have literally lost all hope with this phone.
(P769 running 10e United States Tmobile phone)
Well, you're technically still on stock - root/CWM recovery changes a few system files but nothing that should corrupt the basic stock install. You hadn't installed Titanium and uninstalled anything else - correct?
Under Settings->Software Information do you see a baseband version reported?
What do you have under Settings->Network ?
Try taking the battery out for 30s and taking the SIM and rubbing the gold contacts (light cleaning) on a cloth or your shirt. Replace everything and power up.

I've taken out the battery and cleaned off everything. My network says Unknown, Mobile Network: Unknown, Mobile Network State; Disconnected. I've tried to connect to a network operator but it says my sim card is not allowed to do that. I've tried my sim card in friends phone and it works fine, but for some reason it just doesn't want to work on mine. My baseband version is LGP769AT-01-V10e-310=260-SEP-26-2012+0

If your phone can see networks and you getting 'not allowed' messages, you likely have a SIM problem. check with your carrier.

I have same problem in LG Optimus L9.
I already replaced SIM from Vodafone last 15 days back and today i have the same problem. Vodafone help centre are telling to chaneg the sim again. Is this handset issue?
Same problem, not a SIM card problem
I have the exact same problem.
It's not related to the SIM card as my SIM card works fine in another phone and another SIM card in my phone gives the same problem.
This happened me 2 months ago, I left the phone for dead and started using a spare on I have, a couple of weeks later I check again and it's all working perfectly, strange !
Comforting to see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
I've done a hard reset and that made no difference.
I have a Verizon lg g3 I flashed the latest lollipop from Verizon after kdzing to stock. I run a T-Mobile sim. I reset the APN because I was having text failures. I then lost all service. My cell no longer picks up any service. The sim registers but that's it. Its constantly in a no service state. I kdz again back to stock still no service. What can I do? The sim was checked its fully functional...
Anyone?

im hardly a sim expert, but just because you can see your info, may not mean its not toast.
flashing can and has, many times, fried sims. i would get a new one, then go from there.
Hello all,
Please can someone help me?
Since yesterday my phone is not showing Emergency calls only when I light the screen up. When I unlock the phone I have a message telling me I have no service. Initially I only noticed that I had no mobile internet, but then realised that I could not even connect to Vodafone at all. So I have no service at all. I don't know what to do???
I took my phone to the Vodafone shop, where they put my sim card into another phone and it all worked fine, calls and internet. Then later it hit me that they didn't try another sim card in my phone, so I went back to them asking them to change my sim card all together as they had no spare nano sized sim cards. I got a new sim card but i still have the same problem as above.
I took my phone to the local Samsung service centre where they had a look at it. But all I got from them was to send it off to get repaired, so no real verdict at all.. bit disappointing. Samsung did however to a factory reset for me on my phone, again though all this did was wipe everything and the issue still remained.
Please can someone help me as I lovely phone which is about as good as a iPod
Update
p.s. phone was locked to Vodafone UK, but i use the phone with Vodafone Hungary, still needed to get it unlocked (strange) well i paid to have it unlocked and it worked just fine.

Hi, Yes, it has a number... I have added some more info if that helps at all?
Baseband version: G850FXXU1BOA2
Model number: SM-G850F
Network: Unknown
Service State: Out of Service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Device status: Official
Just a thought, I could be way out of course. Just on a hunch, as this was locked to Vodafone UK and then I got it unlocked to use it in Hungary (HU). I just noticed the message on my phone is saying "No service, Selected network (Vodafone HU) Unavailable.

Hi, Yes I am doing this today, as I do need the phone. It seems this issue on the Alpha is not easily resolved. I can see the S2, S3, S4 and S5 have these issues as well, but none of their solutions are even coming close to working on the Alpha.
Thanks everyone for your help, much appreciate it

Just flashed Lollipop and the bloody Emergency Call still there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Data works ok though... Wil play with settings and other SIM...
I had the same problem tot.
In my case the Sim tray was broken.
are you sure that yours Alpha are not provider locked?!!
or have locked bootloader
Exactly same problem. Just bought Samsung galaxy alpha g850f was locked on EE network. After unlock same problem no service.
I try two different sim cards and both not working on this device. Where is problem? Maybe if i rooted this phone and instal custom ROM it helps? Anybody help
Tried restarting, changing sim. Best I got was an Edge signal and it disappeared in less than a minute. I haven't noticed the problem since I'm on Wifi at home and in my office. Later I'll be going somewhere I expect with no Wifi so I tried it now, and voila I have no Mobile Data on my phone. I called the operator, my internet service is active on the system so I just had to try to restart which I already did.
So much for the "NEXT IS NOW" tagline. Seems that The latest Samsung phone is still operating on analog motherboard or something.
Quick update: I switched to WCDMA/GSM and now I have H+ when I tried LTE/WCDM/GSM, I get nothing. Is this because of the firmware I flashed?

I would have thought that if you are getting something with WCDMA/GSM, you'd at least get the same if your on LTE/WCDMA/GSM, as it should drop down to WCMDA/GSM in the absence of LTE.
However, if you have been flashing ROMs, I would suggest trying something else (perhaps stock for you carrier if carrier branded) before assuming the worst.
