not joking. i am pretty sure it was preloaded. i went to the app store and it said installed, i chose not to restore backups from my google account. it didn't restore any other apps.

First thing I did was install all my personal apps, then debloated VZW junk.
One thing I always like to do with new phones is go through all of the preloaded ringtones and notification sounds. Some of them are so hilariously bad I'm actually tempted to use them.

First thing I did was enable ART in developer settings. I recommend you all do the same!

The first thing was root. By far the most important aspect for me.
Secondly, fought with my bloody MicroSD card. Had about 30GB of music, 20GB of ePSXe/PPSSPP games, a couple of thousand pictures (including recent ultrasound shots of my unborn child), and a full Titanium Backup folder from my S4. Removed said card from S4, even went so far as to unmount it from the storage menu. Popped it into my G3 and got the dreaded "Blank SD card" message. Tried slotting it into the S4 again. Same thing. Went back between the two devices and the card reader on my laptop for about fifteen minutes before giving up. Delved into forums for another thirty, no real luck besides finding out that the S4 seems to have a lot of issues with SanDisk's 64GB MicroSDXC card for some reason.
After much lamenting...formatted the thing, ran another backup of Titanium, finally got what I needed over to the G3. Cussed for another thirty minutes or so, smoked a few cigs, then got back to it. Froze a long list of bloatware/services I won't use. Installed Xposed and the G3 TweaksBox.
And now, nothing. It's more or less ready for me to swing by Verizon tomorrow and have them transfer it over to my line and reactivate my mother's dumb phone. Because well...As much as I am liking the G3, I wasn't about to give up unlimited data for it. Here's hoping someone can unlock the bootloader or find a loki workaround for the device!

Truthfully, not a whole let yet. This was my first chance to try ART as I'd heard from other device threads that it can improve overall performance and bring a slight boost to battery life. I definitely did notice there was little to no lag in certain apps compared to when I was running dalvik. Although, my G3 has shut off on it's own multiple times today and I only received it this morning so I'm more concerned about getting it stable

Don't jump the gun. Many people reporting bluetooth audio stuttering with screen off, wake locks, and random restarts with ART enabled.

i hope they make xposed compatible with ART soon

I feel your pain!!! My Samsung 64gb MicroSD also took a dump, when I removed it from my GS3. Went through the fuster-cluck as you, taking a fresh TB snapshot and everything. Thank goodness for FolderSync, which I use to back up my photos to the cloud, else I'd have been SERIOUSLY PISSED!

I should have held off. I did two factory resets followed by enabling ART each time and it froze on deep sleep each time. A 3rd factory reset and switching backed to Dalvik fixed my issues.

This. I rooted, titanium backup, removed bloat, installed my stuff, and swapped to ART. Just this morning I had 3 full freezes in a deep sleep that required battery pulls.
I just swapped back to Dalvik. At least I can use xposed. I have not done a factory reset. Going to hold off on that until it happens again.
I recommend others to not jump the gun as well. No, I only installed about 7 apps that are all stable. Avoiding anything truly custom for another week to make sure all is well with the device.

I hope this is emphasized enough by now. Please do NOT switch to ART on the Verizon G3. Many people had random freeze/power off problem with ART. Simply switch back to Dalvik fixed the problem.
The difference is night and day. On ART the phone stutters and gets really hot. I almost decided to return it before I realized all problem started after switching to ART. On Dalvik it's behaving more or less like a flagship is supposed to.

[Q] Dissappearing folders

At some point, I got an error that one of my apps couldn't find a file it pointed to. I went to Astro and discovered that "/sdcard" was inaccessible. So, I rebooted, after which it was accessible again, but all the folders I had added were gone without a trace.
How did this happen? When I plug the phone in to my PC, I usually click to "eject" on the PC before disconnecting the cable (although I don't notice any effect on the phone from the eject action). Should I be doing something on the phone instead?
And in any case, do I have to worry about file structure corruption, or is that something that the phone fixes on its own? This aspect of Android is new to me, so any help would be appreciated!
It just happened again!
This started after I installed Go Launcher, but I don't know if that's just a coincidence or not. Right now, I'm not even using it, I installed LauncherPro - and that's my default at the moment.
Does anyone know what's causing me to lose entire folders for no visible reason?
I'm having this same issue. I tried both Gladiatrix and Gingerblur and it's happened once on each so far. After a reboot, my internal SD will just be cleared out. Apps and such are fine, just anything in Sdcard folder.
Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening?
For me, I'm not sure if it happens after a reboot - I have specifically noticed it happen right after unplugging the USB cable. Now, one of the times it might have been after a reboot, I'm just not sure.
If anyone can help shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated!
I should also note that some of the folders are still there, but everything in them is gone. The folders that remain seem to be ones created by apps (camera's DCIM, dropbox, titanium backup). Folders I created (music, notifications, ringtones) are gone.

Yes! That's it, exactly! All folders created by the system, or apps are still there (I can't vouch for the contents, though, since I never checked what was inside them).
But all the folders I created are gone.
Someone's got to know what this is.
Looks like we are the only two having this issue Haphim, lol.
I've unmounted and formatted my internal SD card from within android. Reloaded everything on it and so far so good. I've rebooted a bunch of times to try and get it to do it again but I can't. Hopefully this fixes it. Will keep you updated.
Just did it again. This time it erased all folders. Again it was after a reboot. Next step is when i get home to sbf back to stock, and either keep it that way or re-root and install custom rom. I'm starting to think it could just be a bad internal sd card.
I bought this phone on ebay. Has anyone ever dealt with trying to get a phone repaired they bought off ebay? Anything i should know?

Well, my phone is brand new, bought from Amazon - so I'm not sure your source is the cause. If you do some searching, you'll see a number of other people have experienced this as well, so it's not limited to just us.
Perhaps we need to contact Motorola, I don't know.
Yea I might contact motorola soon.
I just noticed, in the /mnt directory, I keep getting new folders with the name "usbdisk_1.x". So far I have 1.0-1.7. Is this normal? could it be part of the issue?
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
update: I sbf'd back to stock. Left it that way for half a day, rebooting a bunch of times. SDcard never wiped. I just installed greyblur a few hours ago and so far so good with that too. Restarted a bunch and no issues yet. Will keep you updated.

That's great news! But that leaves the question on whether the problem is being caused by one of the other apps you had installed (or maybe even the 1.57 update).
I look forward to seeing how this turns out for you.
I suppose it could have been an app. I've be installing all the apps I use as I go. I decided it would be best to not restore apps using titanium.
I think it's pretty safe to say flashing to stock and starting over fixed this for me. No issues in the past couple days. Rebooting a lot just to be sure. :-D

Unless Motorola tells you otherwise, I wouldn't bother, because I don't think swapping the phone will get you anywhere. You and I are not the only ones with this issue.
Unless Motorola tells you it's hardware, then either it's a bug on the O/S, or it's a bug with one (or more) of the apps we're using. And in either of the two latter cases, swapping phones won't make a difference.
Since I'm pretty sure I've seen people complain about this issue with *different* models of Android phones, I'm guessing the problem is not hardware.
For what it's worth, I got rid of Go Launcher, and I haven't seen the problem happen since. It's not a guarantee of course, but prior to that, my internal sdcard was getting wiped at least once a day.
I'd recommend troubleshooting this via the half life method. Uninstall half of your apps and see if the problem re-occurs. If enough time passes that you're certain you're in the clear, re-install half of the apps you uninstalled and test again. Keep doing that until you figure out the culprit.
I hope you're wrong, only because I sent mine back and ordered a brand new one. I didn't want to bother trying with Motorola on the first one I bought because I got it on ebay and had a limited window to return it in. If the new one has issues, I'll call them up.

Can't format, tons of apps crashing.

So... I have FJ Mod on my note. Things have been running great for a long time. Then a few days a go, out of the blue, google voice was constantly crashing. Then the gapps process. Then it got ridiculous and everything would crash. Then I noticed that when I restart, it saves nothing that I had done. For instance, my call log, text messages, moved icons on my homepage.
I did a wipe in CWM, and everything came back the exact same. Still the same problem, icons still in the wrong place... no idea whats going on.
Has anyone got any advice for me? I was going to try and put a new ROM on later if worse comes to worse, but as is, this is very frustrating. I often have to restart my phone just to use the browser, or message, or anything really. I am just hoping that my internal SD isn't screwed some how and now allowing me to write to it. I haven't done any changes. I don't even believe I have downloaded any apps since a week or so prior to this issue.
Flashing with ODIN did not good either. I tried to revert back to stock. It uploaded with no issues apparently, and then when it rebooted I was back in ICS with everything as it was... argh.
Find one of the the ics leaka one click Odin packages and run that. Should wipe everything, and then you just have to flash cwm and root again.

Well, I tried something similar with a rogers stock rom. Booted up Odin, connected to issues. Uploaded/transferred no issues. Figured I'd be on stock Gingerbread upon bootup, but it was ICS! I've done this and similar on multiple phones, not sure whats happening. I will try again with a different rom as you suggested tonight.

I had the EXACT problem, out of the blue as well. I didn't have the other stated problems in your OP but I did have the one quoted above. First voice , then a few google apps(gmail, drive, etc). The apps would hang for a few 1-2 minutes (felt like hours) and the phone including capacitive buttons became unresponsive and couldn't do anything with the phone. The "wait" or "ok" buttons on the force close popup were not clickable.. It sorted itself out in a few days and boy did it drive me NUTS. I was afraid to post up here in fear people would think I was nuts and did something myself to make things go so awry. Well I was impatient and tried 2 different roms right away. Neither worked. Odin showed "pass", no errors. Then it does its auto-restart and bam, back where I was. Not having the best of luck with this right now.
Any other ideas would be appreciated!

LOL I actually waited a few days before posting here too. I was hoping that maybe uninstalling and reinstalling some, or updated, or clearing cache and all that would help. As you can see, it did nothing. Heck, after I restart my updates didnt even stick and Google Play is trying to download them again!
Well... still no luck.
Here is another thing I noticed. When I hook up the note to my PC, and look at it, I cannot access my external SD. Furthermore, I had a file on my internal SD that I deleted. When I restarted my phone the file was back. Yet in windows it removed without error. I have no idea what is happening at all.
And now its reading it again........ Ive literally been sitting here trying a bunch of different ways to fix this. Playing around in CWM, trying ODIN including a couple 1 click solutions. The one starts writing to NAND, then stops and gives me an error.
Try taking out your sd card and running it for a while. First note i got was acting that way from the get go. Took it back and got a new one. It started doing the same thing. Finally took out sd card and ran great. Card was going bad. I had replaced the 8 gb stock card with the 16 gb one i had in another phone and apparently the mote didn't like it.

Did you, by any chance, install a custom kernal? IIRC, one of them messed with the mount points. By far, the only way to fix your issue immediately will involve restoring to stock through ODIN, then rerooting and reflashing CWM. This will 100% mark your Note as either defective, or prove that it's a problem in another area. However, I don't believe your problem is with your SD Card, unless you've been using an app like apps2sd.
If you're weary about doing this, try to reflash CWM, or TWRP to figure out if it's something going on with the recovery partition and/or settings. I'm no expert, but the only thing I'm aware of that sticks around through a wipe, and multiple flashes are our recovery, our internal SD files (possible), and sometimes the modem. Also, the one click leaks include a not loader, which could prevent you from restoring a GB Nandroid.
By flashing CWM, then TWRP, then CWM again, or sticking with TWRP, you at least knock out one variable...and by reformatting your internal SD, you ensure no resources are sticking around.
Edit:are you using TiBu to backup and restore/migrate after a flash? Verify your backups under the batch lost.
What could be happening, is you're restoring data in CWM, or TiBu, or w/e ap you're using, and then the Google account sync restore is restoring your settings, and replacing the desired ones, or vice versa.
Edit again: Which launcher are you using? Which utilities do you use? What are your main root apps?
The backup verify is a must...but some launchers will scoot icons out of the way. If you're having a touch screen issue, or an S Pen issue, you could be draggn items around when you're not aware of it.
I'll see this through. You've caught my interest.

Also, tap USB utilities in settings, by the other FJ mods, and tap the selection there, then check to see if you can find your SD card through your PC.
In addition to the above, you can also enter the "Tools" section of FJmods, and disable ad blocking, remove touchwiz UI, s voice, etcetera, and return ALL settings too default, and remove all extras. You can reflash recovery there too.

I had installed a custom kernel on Gingerbread before, but obviously that was replaced with the one I used with FJmod. It had been operating fine for over a month.
Also, I removed my SD Card, and tried everything without it. I have tried restoring gingerbread stock and ICS stock through both ODIN and CWM. Even formatting through CWM does nothing as when I restart I am back to normal.
As for root, I only had 2-3 programs with access. ES File Manager/Task manager, and I tried one called Lucky Patcher (I will verify this evening). All of these had been on for at least a week prior to all this beginning.
I havent been using TiBu for anything at all actually.
The launcher I am using at the moment is Nova.
Other than that, I am going to try a few of your suggestions once I am done work. I will post my results tonight!
Thanks for the suggestions and info, greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Just to be clear. I am formatting then restarting and all my apps, icon placements and wallpaper return. Even my call history is stuck up to the 13th and erases recent calls. I am also trying to revert to stock ICS and Gingerbread through both ODIN and CWM. After it is done installing through ODIN and reboots, I return to the way my phone was before. Same with CWM. After flashing through CWM I return right back to the way it was. I am not doing any restoring or anything. I have done this plenty of times in the past before. The only thing I can possibly imagine at this point is that my SD is somehow stuck on read only. Yet it is weird because again, I can delete files and apps (and even windows shows them as gone), but after a restart they are all back! I can remove apps, but they are still in the app menu too.... I can even run them lol (even after deleting their folder). The phone is stuck in stasis.
All of this just happened one day out of the blue. No new apps (for at least a week) too.
I have a GTab that had the EXACT same symptoms.. turns out it's internal flash memory was bad, not the microSD. going for broke I opened it up and desoldered the flash memory IC and it uses the microSD now as its primary storage. If even after a stock reflash you have problems I hope you have warranty.

Great... lol! I have a warranty, but no one will work with it due to the fact I have a custom rom. Am I maybe contacting the wrong people? I contacted Rogers and they said they couldn't help me. No sir. I tried stock gingerbread and ics. I've tried custom roms. I've tried just erasing it too! Tried Odin and CWM. I am going to try and change recovery today again too.
Rogers said they won't help. They used the word "launcher" but I knew what he meant. They think I may have overclocked it any burnt it out I bet. Maybe I will try calling samsung.

Yeah other apps work just fine. Its the stock message app that won't send anything. Not that big of a deal. I like hangouts better anyways. Was just sharing bugs with the rom.
Anyone experiencing the screen coming on in pocket. I have had that issue with all builds of CM and G3. I use nova and greenify to tap to sleep and tap to wake.

Well at least I know I'm not crazy. This build is super slick. Super spoiled on the tap to wake and sleep feature.

Hahaha holy crap that's insane!! I am yet to see a case like that in my time with the g3 but if it persists, maybe get a tempered glass to slightly lower the sensitivity of your screen? Or just disabled double tap to wake

Lol yeah that's the first time it ever happened. There was like 3 hours i didn't check my phone and couldn't figure out why I lost like 25% battery til I got home and seen the pics haha.
Switched to Android after several year with iPhones and long before that I had a HTC evo... (Bleh). Lovin it so far, just few questions with CM12. (hopefully this is the right place)
-does Cm12 support exFat format, I understand TWRP doesn't recognize my sd card due to that, just wondering if CM12 would and recommendation if I should format it to FAT32. ( I have definitely read that if I don't format it to FAT32 the rom won't mount it correctly)
-I am traveling out of town this christmas, usually I would just call sprint to unlock it internationally so I can use a sim card while I'm abroad. If I flash cm12 would this still work or would I have to do some complicated adb shell command and stuff to unlock it myself?
Really appreciate this forum and its awesome, helpful people. Glad I'm in this ship with y'all.

Whether or not the ROM supports exFat, I would format it regardless so TWRP can access it. It makes it easier on yourself. My logic is; what if this awesome new rom comes out and it doesn't have exFAT support for a while and you really want to access your music and photos? It's just easier to format it to FAT32 and never have that problem. I actually have a link to format it if need be. I'm running Windows 7 on my laptop so my 64gb Micro SD did not have a FAT32 option for formatting by default. I did read that Windows 8 users do not have this issue. I tried three different programs and this was the only one that actually was successful in formatting my card to FAT32: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
CM12 does not include activation tools (which is why you don't do an advanced wipe when flashing to this since you need to keep the activation bits from the ROM you are coming from) and as such my feeling is that Sprint won't touch the device for unlocking. Also, the rep likely has no experience with CM so you're better off just putting it on stock to get it properly configured and then flashing back to CM once you've gotten the thing unlocked. I've seen some stuff about build.prop edits and whatnot to run the phone on different carriers without official unlocks but I don't recall seeing definite evidence that it works. You're best off asking someone else about that one.
I'm waiting for CM12 to download myself! I want to join the fun. Is there anything that can be done to improve the slow download speeds for the builds? I've been spoiled for far too long by androidfilehost and the fact that it's taking 45 minutes to download 244MB is killing me. I can wait, I'd just love an alternative if one exists.

Thant makes sense, guess I will just have sprint unlock it before I flash the ROM. Thanks for answering probably really stupid questions!
In regards to reformatting, I have heard that formatting an exFat to Fat32 will eventually lead to corruption of the SD card later on. That's why I was hesitant.
But for downloading the build, it took longer than usual but nothing crazy like 45 minute... I wasn't on WiFi and it took like 5-10 minute max... Guess I'm just lucky?

Hmm, I didn't hear anything about corruption.... I should look into that. Worst case it gets corrupted and I just reformat it and start over
Don't be ridiculous! This is XDA. There are only two kinds of stupid questions: The question about ETAs, and the question about something that is clearly stated in the main post. Yours is neither of those so your questions are entirely legitimate.
Lucky... I figured if anything it'd be better for me being that it's now 4am, so server traffic should be lower... I have definitely been downloading this for about an hour now and it's got another 70 or so MB to download. I'm on my home wifi network which hit the speeds you'll see in the image below, WITH the download going on in the background. Normally I'm topping out around 60mbps down. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to flash. Meh. My luck it'll finish and when I check the MD5 it'll be partially corrupted. Hehe

Hmmmm. I just downloaded the 12/4 build again because I accidentally whiped my internal storage and system while restoring to stock to get sprint to unlock (ops). It definitely did not take that long... Lemme test me download speed and report back
Edit:
Erm my wifi DL speed is definitely worse than yours per speed test
Question are you downloading the zip using computer or your phone? (Not sure if that makes a difference, but I'm on my phone)

S9+ Memory leak?

Long time, no post. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has been having RAM issues with their S9+? I've attached a few screenshots. My RAM fills up 1-3 times a week with 300-600MB free, and I have to reboot the device because the phone becomes so slow that it's unusable. Music playback will get choppy, the UI lags badly... A reboot fixes it.
My device is unlocked, carrier is Viaero, so no odd carrier bloatware.
I am using the stock ROM, all up to date, and stock launcher. Most of the bloatware has been disabled, including the unfortunate Bixby. I've had this phone since June and the memory leak has been a constant feature across updates. I cannot pinpoint an app that would be causing it, and using the in built device management will never show me what's hogging up memory. The tool itself will only clear 200-400MB out of RAM, and the device will faithfully fill it back in while remaining sluggish.
Does anyone have some ideas what I can do aside from resetting the device? I hate to waste several hours of my life only to be back in the same boat.
This is bad enough that I am considering seeing if my carrier will just take it back and buying a OnePlus 6T.

I guess when the damn thing decides to bog down again, I'll pop into this, or try to at least, and see what Samsung's malfunction is - I'll post a screenshot of it as well.

The one app that really made my phone choppy was Snapchat when its running in the background as it's so badly coded

Still looks like you've got plenty of ram free. I'd suggest getting something like simple system monitor and check it whenever you get lags
Also when you factory reset did you install from fresh or restore your apps?
I just want to chime in and say that I have this EXACT same issue. It the issue first began to occur back in an August 2018 update; the issue started every 3 days and now it is every single day I have to reboot. Once the ram gets down to 2-300 MB available, the system just tanks and becomes extremely sluggish, laggy and unusable - not to mention HOT.
I have tried uninstalling apps, googling fixes that other similar users experience... no fix. However, the more and more I read about the issue, I am beginning to believe we may have a botched firmware update or something, but definitely something bad on Samsung's end - and a memory leak sounds very plausible.

Never bothered doing a restore - it takes forever to get everything re-installed.
And yes, memory was fine at time of screens, I will take some more and post them here when the phone bogs down again. =)
I want to say I was having a similar problem. I have an unlocked s9+ on Sprint. Running stock (no root of course), applied the hotspot hack, disable bixby, disabled most Samsung apps that I could run Google's alternatives (including Pixel launcher), bxactions for torch. I would get the slow down every 1-2 days requiring a restart. I've since did a factory reset and only applied the hotspot app and hid the Samsung apps in a folder that I downloaded Google alternatives for instead of disabling them with SAC. I can say that I've only had one slow down that eventually resolved itself after about 10 seconds not requiring a restart. It's been over a week and it looks promising.
I have the unlocked international version. The phone slowed to a crawl once and I uninstalled some apps I wasn't using. Can't remember which but the lag disappeared.
I really think theres something wrong with these phones, whether it be a specific batch of hardware or software or both.
Another case with the exact same problem.

Nothing looks untoward in there, might be worth going in cached again as that's where most of the RAM is being taken (note that list doesn't add up to the amount being used) . The other consideration is that low 'free RAM' isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means it's being utilised. (Cached processes should be automatically closed down if more RAM is required) It's likely that a rogue app is hogging a processor (I find Snapchat makes my phone very laggy as it's poorly coded). If you can't find anything untoward I'd recommend doing a reset and manually restoring. Appreciate it's a pain but not sure what else you can do. If it persists then take it back to Samsung

Typically my phone will have anywhere between 1.1 and 2GB free. I check it periodically because of the slowdowns, and it only gets that low when the phone bogs down. it's the same on my desktop computer, when my Ram gets really low the computer comes to a crawl, so it just seems to be something emblematic of technology in general.
Also, screenshots of cached are in the mix with these other screenshots. the phone was so slow while I was trying to scroll down the list of cached apps, the list would just completely go blank and then repopulate with a different apps. ?
And I do not use Snapchat, but I've heard that complaint often about the Android version of the app.
Sadly I cannot take it back to Samsung, I did not buy it from them. I am making payments to my carrier for the phone and they refuse to simply let me relinquish the device.
When I get time off of work, I will probably go ahead and do the restore, although I would much rather just smash the phone on the ground and stomp on it until there's nothing left that can't be vacuumed up. That honestly sounds like a more productive waste of time to me. ?
After this experience, I will probably just go ahead and cough up the $800 to pay this darn thing off and throw it on eBay for $500 or whatever it is they are going for these days. I feel very burnt by Samsung and my carrier as well.

Can you not do scroll capture to get everything?
Yea Snapchat won't be the only rogue app, that's why I suggest getting an app that can monitor your processor usage.
So I'm in the UK - don't know how US warranty laws work but i would assume there is a year's manafacturer warranty were they have to look at your phone within a certain period regardless of the carrier? Between them and your carrier I'm sure you'd be covered if there is something wrong with the phone that's not your fault? (I'm ignorant of US contract law so might be wrong, I'll have a Google when I get a second )
Samsung UK have actually been quite good to me so it's worth giving the US guys a call!

Also. I will need to look into the warranty process. If I have to mail the phone off, I'll still need to buy a new phone because I'll die of boredom at work without one.

Question New G Play Owner with questions

Hey everybody. Just getting my new 2021 G Play up and running. For some reason, it seems slow as hell. Specs wise, it should be significantly faster than it is. I'm experiencing delays when typing, changing apps, and just the lag time from when you click a button until the screen changes and you can go onto the next task sucks.
Anybody have any tips? What might be causing the issue? I got the 3 gig RAM version, which should still be plenty. I feel like it's being artificially slowed by software and it would be nice to fix that problem.

Yep, it's the retail rom. I am in the exact same boat as you, bought it a few weeks ago from Target US since I needed a decent unlocked phone to use with a high data prepaid sim. So far this thing is the best phone I've ever had. I'll share a few things I've learned/done since I've unlocked and rooted mine if you would like.
My device was reasonably quick out of the box and I noticed little if any lag. But I usually buy 50 dollar phones from walmart so I might not have the most reliable opinion about that. By the way the Facebook APK and a few facebook services reside on the phone, and I can't recall but they might even be installed out of the box but just deactivated. You'd be surprised how much crap is on this thing that sits idly by waiting for a compatible carrier SIM to give the phone the Go-Ahead to install.
So yeah, the tip I would suggest is to unlock the bootloader, install magisk and get root, then use some magisk modules and ADB scripts to start cleaning out the stuff you don't want. You'll be glad you did. I stripped out a lot of verizon installed services, amazon/facebook APKs, and all the motorola OEM apps I wasn't interested in, which was basically all of them. The phone is butter smooth. I have cloudflare DNS and ad aware installed, in addition to a couple of other modules.
I used to root devices years ago and took a break from around 2015 till now. Magisk is a slightly different experience than the way it used to be but for the most part it's dead simple and very flexible. On top of that, with the right flash tools and a copy of your firmware these devices seem nearly unbrickable. I've already soft bricked the thing a couple of times and it was just a matter of a quick magisk reflash and finangling some settings. Kept the same OS install, didn't lose anything.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any help.
Well this is good info, thanks. To be fair, this is about the slowest phone I've ever had. I'm coming from a OnePlus 6 thats been a constant headache too for the past couple years (everytime I wanted to make an outbound call I had to reboot the POS). I picked up the OnePlus second hand. I just can't stomach these $1k phone prices, and this has nearly the same specs as most of the $500 phones.
yeah, for me it was getting rid of the facebook.apk that came packaged. As soon as I did that it was a new phone. Didn't even need to bother with magisk this go around.
