[Q] WiFi and 4G both on simultaneously? - Verizon LG G3

I don't know if anyone here has experienced this, but when I turn the WiFi on for my G3, the 4G icon does not disappear, as it did on my Galaxy S3. I have spoken to a friend who also received his G3 yesterday and is having the same issue. Since the 4G icon turns grey when mobile data is disabled (yet it remains white when enabled and WiFi is on), I'm wondering if the phone is using both WiFi and 4G network to transfer data; the battery seems to drain noticeably faster when both are enabled.
If anyone can shed some light on to this issue, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure 4G is always on regardless of what your s3 showed, otherwise it couldn't send and receive phone calls/text.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Because they're "independent" of one another, icons for both will appear, instead of the wifi icon "replacing" the 4G/3G icon. I was used to the same behavior, also coming from the Galaxy S3. On one hand, it's more specific but on the other hand, wastes more space.

I have an S3 too and it doesn't show the 4g logo when I'm on wifi either. However, my wife just got an s4 and it will show both icons when she is on wifi. It just must be what verizon switched to now. It's annoying because it takes up more notification screen area.

Ahh, understood. Thanks for clearing it up, guys.

I'm pretty sure the S4 had a caller id app that made the 4G icon stay on. If I remember correctly it was kind of tricky to uninstall but once that was done the 4G icon would turn off during wifi. It could be the same case for the G3.

[Q] Sporadic 4G LTE on Rezound - Possible Fix?

I scanned this forum before creating this post and I'm pretty sure there isn't one already out there but please don't flame me if there is. I couldn't find any and I spent a good 30 minutes last night, trying to find something like this.
I purchased a used HTC Rezound recently but was unable to get 4G LTE to stay ON. I surfed various forums for a possible fix but couldn't find anything that I hadn't already tried.
This morning, I think I might have found a work-around. Here's what I did.
After activating the line and being able to get sporadic 4G LTE signal on the device, I went into the wifi settings on a hunch that maybe some unexplicable interaction was happening between wifi and the 4G radio. Wifi kept wanting to turn itself on and I kept fighting it by turning it off.
I located my home network and clicked 'forget network'. Once I did that, I went back to make sure wifi was OFF and that Mobile (data) was ON and WHAMMO!! Immediately, the 4G LTE indicator popped back on and I've been rocking 4G for about 2 hours now, without a single blip. I've watched an entire episode of 24 on Netflix in an area of my house where I've confirmed that I have a weak signal and still, no problems at all.
So my Question is this: Is there any other way to disable wifi without having to 'forget' the network when I want to use wifi? (Other than what might seem obvious by turning wifi OFF when I know that doesn't get rid of the 4G dropouts).
It's really only an inconvenience at this stage. All I'd have to do to connect is re-enter the password and since I don't use wifi when I'm at home because I have Unlimited Data, it's not really a big deal but it just seems that the OS on this phone was purposely designed in a way to take people OFF the 4G network when their phone is 'familiar' with a wifi system they're near.
======================== UPDATE ====================
There is no issue with the phone. The issue was an activation issue and I was able to eliminate the problem by trial and error. It turns out, the way I was able to get the device to connect had to do with re-seating the SIM. Once I did, the phone has been flawless in connectivity to both 4G LTE and wifi regardless of the combination of wifi settings. I hope this is useful to anyone reading the thread.
Is your Rezound stock or custom?
LTE will disable when WiFi is activated, most LTE phone does this by design. I have experienced where my Rezound's WiFi would want to turn on automatically on the clean rom, re-flashed and everything was good.
I personally never had issues with my Rezound. If fact, the Rezound has one of the best radios to date. The fact that HTC integrated the antenna into the battery case housing is what makes it a strong contender for receiving radio waves..

Go in advanced settings wifi settings (menu advanced settings)and disable the automatically turn on wifi setting. (Not exactly sure what its called as I hate sense and I'm not running it) but ull see it in advanced settings and then when u want to actually use wifi just enable wifi.
Problem solved

Well, I'm on stock ICS but rooted with S-OFF. The wifi, even when OFF kept wanting to turn ON by itself when I wanted it to stay on 4G. The only way I could get the phone to stay on 4G was to 'forget' my home network.
All is well now. Weird huh?
Sent from my rooted HTC Rezound with S-OFF using ICS on Verizon's periodically blazing fast and mostly reliable network
The Rezound has a poor shield on the 4g radio chip which causes interference in music. So, logically if stuff can get out, then wifi can come in and mess it up.
Dude read what I said and it will never automatically turn on again.
That's the reason it kept automatically turning it on. And if u haven't done what I said then regardless of you thinking its fixed it WILL turn on again by itself.

There's no such setting that I can find within the settings and I know which setting you're referring to. I saw it before on my Thunderbolt but for the life of me, I can't find it on the Rezound's menus. Anywhere. I looked several times. I'm pretty sure it's there. I just can't find it so the only way I could get the 4G to stay on and not have wifi automatically connect was to 'forget' the wifi network.

Mobile data "Disconnected"

This is new. My phone shows full signal bars, but data does not work (no LTE displayed in the status bar). When I look at the settings it says "Disconnected" right below Mobile data. If I turn it off and on, it will say "Turning On..." then "Disconnected".
The weird part is that I know I get LTE signal right here (at my desk at work). I've been using the phone here all week. It was working fine, then it switched to disconnected. The first time I turned the data off/on, it connected, showed LTE, and sent an email I had tried to send. Now it refuses to connect at all.
I rebooted the phone, and it first connected to LTE, and now has full bars of 3G.
Anyone else notice something similar happen?
EDIT: Looks like it's Verizon possibly doing some tower work in NYC.
its possible you have a toasted sim card. not very common but i have seen it happen before on my gnex and a few others. Good luck
Another possibility is that Verizon in your area is fixing things.
If you are in Manhattan, a couple of us experienced unstable data connection these few days.
If such data disconnection happens cross the country , then it is a device's issue, which I suspect not.

Same thing keeps happening to me. It's frustrating because it will spool up LTE with full bars, not transmit any data and then disconnect completely from data. Will have to restart my phone which normally gets me back to working 3G until it happens again in an hour or so and have to repeat the process. Toggling the data connection on and off doesn't help. Verizon replaced my SIM card but it hasn't helped anything. Hoping it's just a temporary NYC issue.

Not surprising given some of the photos I've seen of their infrastructure after Sandy. Good to hear I'm not the only one.
This could be a different problem, but today I completely lost all mobile signal, both data and voice. It looked like I was in the subway (with no data icon and a little x next to the bars) . I waited for a couple of hours to see if the signal comes back, but it did not. A reboot fixed the issue.
I would not think much of this typically, but my wife has complained about exactly the same thing. Said she had to reboot the phone on two occasions already to get the signal back. WiFi worked fine though.
Could be a bug with the DNA.

I had that issue with the Galaxy S2.
Simple and fast solution: walk into a local carrier store and pop in a new one. It's free, and surely saves time without having to stress over troubleshooting it
Hi Everyone,
I got the same issue. I did a quick search on xda for this issue and saw this thread on this topic.
I opted to get the HTC One X+ instead of the DNA.
The first week I got the phone (from UK) everything worked fine and now I can't get the data connection to work.
I am currently on Vodafone.
The funny thing is, I take the same SIM card put it into my HTC One X which I got here in Australia and it works fine. No problems, always get a data connection.
However since the new HTC One X+ worked fine for the last few weeks and now it doesn't, I don't think it has anything to do with the networks.
Now since DNA is having this same issue, I am wondering if it has to do with Jelly Bean or the Sense upgrade using the HTC One +(plus).
Very frustrating. Any further thoughts about this bloody frustrating issue ?

As stated, the same SIM card when put into my HTC One X works fine. I get a data connection right away?
Update. Got it working again. Network connections are a bit sensitive.
Will monitor this issue over the next week.
So it is not necessarily the SIM Card.

UPDATE !
I still have this frustrating problem. With my galaxy note 10.1 I have 75% connection on GSM and a network connection. With HTC One X+ 20% connection on GSM and NO network connection.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Any suggestions anyone?
I have the same issue and I live in California. I think it's definitely a Droid DNA issue, not the Verizon network. I lose all mobile data, not just LTE. It happens probably a few times a day and even when I'm in the middle of a phone call. I'll have to restart my phone to get it working, but I've even had a couple of times where even a restart didn't work and I had to shut the phone off completely multiple times. This issue is rather frustrating!

It might not be a VZW problem but just incase go to a Vzw store and ask them if there are any down towers on the area if there aren't ask them for a warranty cpo replacement DNA. Hope this helps.

Are we talking about the message that says "Wi-FI networks available" if you leave Wi-Fi enabled 24/7 and travel around, and your phone finds open routers?
Because I am rocking an old Thunderbolt still with an ICS AOSP ROM and it does that as well.
If this issue is different however please explain.

Ah thanks I see now. That is really stupid. On every other version of the Note 2 (Intl + all non-Verizon US carriers) there is a Wi-Fi toggle in the top power bar, but not on Verizon. GG Verizon ruining everything they get their greedy little hands on.
They're like the Electronic Arts of the cell phone market.

Loosing connection constantly

Lately I've notice wifi signal dropping. I started to notice when youtube gave me network errors, wasn't a big deal I just clicked try again until it work, but now I am noticing in facebook and whatnot. I am browsing XDA and suddenly I lose signal. This is happening on data as well. Sometimes I am on LTE 1 bar when I magically switch to 2G and stays there for a while even when the area is 4G. I read somewhere here about it and it turns the cases are blocking the signal, well I removed my case and it didn't help. However, a month or so, this problem wasn't happening, even with a case. You guys have any idea?
This happened to me the entire first day I owned the one. I even put a ticket in with HTC. They were going to have me reset everything, take my password of my network and unsecured it. Next day I got home and no problems. Stopped using power saver though, also make sure that wifi stays in during sleep.

I guess I will check it out with out Power saver though and see how that works
Just replaced my phone under warenty. Could only get 4g on wcdma only setting. I was missing calls without it showing in call log. My WiFi was increasingly getting spotty. I tried resetting the phone with T-Mobile tech's but it wouldn't help. Still testing the new phone.

I don't have Tmobile warranty since I bought it new off ebay. But I haven't unlocked it or anything yet you think I should contact HTC about this?
I'd call T-Mobile anyway. I think I remember that they honor the warranty of any of their new phones as long as yours is the first SIM ever used in it. Can't hurt to try...

My wifi has been great, no problems. But, recently my service has been crappy too, my connection would drop from 4G to 2G and when I was trying to send a mms it kept failing, even though it said I was on 4G LTE. I did flash my radio to the newest, but did not seem to do anything.

How to toggle 2g/3g off while keeping 4g on

I'm looking for a way to only have 4g on on my note 2. In my current location I have 1-2 bars of 4g but my phone continues to switch back to 3g every few minutes. I can easily get 4g back by toggling airplane mode on and off but it is a huge annoyance to have to do this. I have tried the 4g lte on/off thunderbolt app but receive a force close with beans 21. I'm also running nova launcher and don't see any widgets for toggling 2g/3g and 4g. Thanks for the help

I realize that but that's why if I was able to toggle it on/off easily when needed it would be very useful. I was able to do this on my thunderbolt with lte on/off app(had toggles for 2g/3g/4g) so I'm wondering why it seems so difficult to perform on my note 2 or if it's simply a beans compatibility issue.
The problem is when I have a low/moderate 4g signal(1-2 bars) my phone seems to prefer 3g and switches to it every few minutes. The only way I can get it to switch back is to enable then disabled airplane mode and it will hold for another few minutes.
Still looking for any input/apps/ideas, thanks
Bump still looking for a solution to this. Currently in a situation(new location from before) with 1-2 bars of 4g but my phone continues to switch between 3g and 4g. There must be a way to "lock" 4g or toggle 3g off. This was super easy to do on my Thunderbolt

I'm pretty sure there isn't an option for this that actually works. If our phone doesn't have 4g I think it just goes to 3g and there is no option to toggle it to 2g/3g. There was a thread that suggests switching it to 2g to save battery life, but all of the apps that are used to accomplish this don't have that option. I think it might've been something just in the international ROMS but i'm not sure.

That's upsetting to hear, it used to be so easy on my thunderbolt. The problem is when I have a decent 4g connection(by decent I mean 1-2 bars, not great) my phone seems to still prefer 3g which I typically have 3+ bars of. The problem is that 1-2 bars of 4g is substantially faster than 3+ bars of 3g. I can usually flip airplane mode on and off and lock a 4g signal for a minute or two but then it seems to jump right back to 3g. Incredibly frustrating, especially since there is one location where I spend a lot of time that this is an issue.
If anyone else has any info please let me know. Another user posted his custom application for me that was similar to the LTE on/off app(which force closes running beans 21) but his custom app force closes as well even though he stated it worked for him

I have the same issue where I live. My concern wasn't the fact the speed, though. My battery drops a lot when i'm at certain places at work because it is constantly searching, dropping, and using 3g/4g.
I looked for this awhile back, but I'm pretty sure this was a function only available on the international variants in their ROMS. That is why when you look at certain guides to improve battery life, it says to make it exactly like you are speaking of.
