I've been using knock code as my security. If I enable encryption will I still be able to use it or is it going to make me use a pin or password?
If you tap "encrypt phone" it says you'll need your pin or password afterward. I haven't tried that. but on my previous phone which was encrypted only pin/password was allowed to unlock. The normal Android swipe pattern is not. I'd think knock code is no more secure than the swipe pattern.
Ok thanks, guess I'll just leave it unencrypted

Hello, i think it's not becoming clear from the title, but i don't know how exactly to name it. I have a corporate email set on my Xperia S. Since the email is corporate, i had to set Pin Unlock, which is something i don't like at all - especially when i'm driving. Is there a way to trick the security settings or the android to think that i'm using pin code unlock, but instead to use the normal unlock screen? The only possible unlock solutions which i have now (having in mind that the device security is managed by the exchange service) are pin or password unlock.

Did I get that right? You want Android to think you have a PIN, but don't want to enter the code?
You could make a delay until lock, so if your phone switched off, and you turned it on again after a minute, it's not locked yet.
Actually it's almost as you say - i want to be able to lock it and use the normal unlock slide instead of entering a pin, without having to remove the device security setting - basically trick the phone that a pin unlock is used. I still want to be able to lock the phone, since otherwise it's not sleeping properly and is reducing even more the already short battery life.

I don't think it's possible.
Does anyone use encryption (the one you select in security settings)? It says that you need to enter a pin every time you turn the phone on. I was wondering if knock on counts, or if you have to use another code - which would be dumb?

Since no one seems to have tried it I did. Knock on doesn't seem to count.

I thought it meant you need a PIN whenever you turn the phone on/off, not when you wake it up... Knock-knock just works for waking it up..
I thought it meant when the phone is powering on and off as well. The knock on feature wouldn't be a good encryption password. Although I think you can use either a PIN or the grid to swipe a password.
if you make wipe from recovery, would you be able to access encrypted data?
just wonder if it is secure enough
Hi guys
I was just about to encrypt my phone (samsung s5, lollipop) but before encrypting it the phone is asking me to set the lock screen type.
I always have my lock screen set to 4 digit pin but the only options it gives me are password or fingerprint. All the others are greyed out and say “Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage”.
Am i really stuck with having to put in a 6 digit password every time i want to use my phone just to be able to have it encrypted?
If so i can understand why people are annoyed with their new phones with lollipop pre installed having encryption enabled by default.
That's how Samsung locks things down, I suppose. I have an 8-character password to boot up and a pattern lock for the screen on my N5.

So it's Samsung that's disabling the 4 digit pin and not the lollipop OS?

I would imagine so. I had a pattern lock for boot up a few days ago.
Hello,
I forgot my screen lock pin code, but I was able to unlock the phone using my fingerprint. Now, after many attempts to unlock the phone with pin code, even the fingerprint is not working. Is this a permanent or I can use my fingerprint after a few hours will pass?
Assumed you've signed Google account IMHO the simplest way to reset screen password is with Google account.
My phone is working perfectly on the default OS I have only one problem, when using full disk encryption and/or SD card encryption there is no way to use another unlock option that passcode (with at least one letter).
By looking around it seems like there is no other solution than to use this long passcode but then to be able to use my phone normally I have to set up auto lock at 30mn.
If it's still not possible to use a numeric code with encryption, would there be a way to add a second lock screen at unlock so I can use a numeric code to unlock?
I've read articles online about this problem when android 5 was released i'm just looking for more recent info if it's possible to change this manually.
I'm not asking for a debate on encryption, i'm not paranoid and understand what encryption does and does not, it just seems crazy to me to use a phone without any other security than the passcode, if it gets stolen almost everything will be readable. (it's so much simpler on iOS)
Thank you
