Knock on and Encryption - G2 General

Does anyone use encryption (the one you select in security settings)? It says that you need to enter a pin every time you turn the phone on. I was wondering if knock on counts, or if you have to use another code - which would be dumb?

Since no one seems to have tried it I did. Knock on doesn't seem to count.

I thought it meant you need a PIN whenever you turn the phone on/off, not when you wake it up... Knock-knock just works for waking it up..

I thought it meant when the phone is powering on and off as well. The knock on feature wouldn't be a good encryption password. Although I think you can use either a PIN or the grid to swipe a password.

if you make wipe from recovery, would you be able to access encrypted data?
just wonder if it is secure enough

How to bypass screen locks?

I remember back in the 1.6 days you could just type null as your gmail password and it would bypass your lock password. What way is there now a days without getting into stock recovery and reseting the phone? Droid x cm7

this is a LOOONG shot but is the only thing i know.
on the samsung moment, you could call the device from another phone. once the moment started ringing, you would ignore the call, and IMMEDIATELY and REPEATEDLY tap the home button. this would allow you into the phones home screen, but wouldnt remove the lock. i hope this helps...

[Q] Use without activation?

I purchased an I500 from ebay not realizing it does not take a sim card. Oops, my bad. Due to circumstances i can't get it returned so im stuck with it.
I was considering using it as an MP3 player (cheaper than an ipod with very similar function) however each time i start it up it says "Press Send to activate your phone."
Well this wont work, im in Canada, it tries to dial out and i get a no service message.
I know i can bypass the activation by pressing *#83786633 but i want to prevent it from asking me to activate alltogether. Anyone ever experience this? Do you have any suggestions?
I'm interested to know this as well as I purchased an I500 to do the same thing. Mine hasn't shown up yet but I'll be going through a similar situation. My understanding (and this could be incorrect) is that yes you will be able to use it as an iPod Touch, but it may keep asking you to activate. It'd be sweet if it is possible bypass this because the I500 could be a really fantastic PMP.
Just a guess since I can't test it:
Try putting the phone in airplane mode. This will turn off the radio and maybe that will stop the phone from asking you to activate. You can leave it in airplane mode indefinitely since you won't be using it as a phone. Again, I'm only guessing.
Wifi can still work, just turn it back on after you enable airplane mode.

As soon as you turn off airplane mode, or if anything needs GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, etc. the phone can trigger the setup process.
Good idea tho, thanks for your input!
Did you try freezing the setup wizard with TiBu?

No, never thought of that. I did, however, find out how to trick the phone into thinking it was activated...
To access the hidden menus from the dialer:
• Open the dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
• Open the dialer again (clear previously entry if it is still present) enter *#22745927
• Enter the SPC 000000 then enable Hidden Menu
Now you can enter Service Mode by entering **772
In the service mode you can set the phone's number, the code for the carrier, etc. I just found numbers for my local carrier (so they wouldnt be rejected as invalid, you can try random ones if you like) and it worked!
You may have to put the SPC code in twice... not sure why

App that locks turning off phone

Anybody knows about an app that can do the job? Made a search and found wavesecure, but old and not compatible with latest wp.
Cheers
Sorry, can you be more precise about what you mean? If you're looking for an app which prevents the phone from being turned off; that's not possible. If you're looking for one that prevents the screen from turning off (phone entering standby mode), that's easy but the app has to keep running in the foreground to do it, so it just wastes battery. If you're looking for an app to allow you to disable the screen lock timeout, that is actually possible although it requires high privileges (interop-unlock).

Googling for "wavesecure" only brought me to the McAffee website. It's an app to remotely lock and wipe your phone. If that's what you're looking for, look no further. Windows Phone has this feature built in, just log in to https://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/my and select to lock, ring or erase your phone if you lost it or it got stolen.
Sorry, maybe i was not clear. Looking for an app that prevents the phone to be turned off. Say you want to turn off the phone and to proceed you need to insert a pin number. I am looking for such kind of app just to have some more time in case the phone is stolen. Of course somebody can even take off the sim without turning off the phone......but might be not so "instinctive" as turning it off.
... or remove the battery, or hold the power button for ten seconds to hard-shutdown, or...
I mean, I'd help you if I knew of something, but it's pretty pointless.
yeah... at the end seems to be quite useless....
Thanx guys for answers.
:good:

[Q] Recovery mode help

Bought the phone last night, set it all up, went to bed, woke up and forgot my lock pattern... Googled what to do, seems like reset is only option (didn't enable usb debugging and can't log in to google account because I didn't leave the internet on and it doesn't accept my password), try to enter recovery mode and nope. Can't. LED light never lights up like all the guides say.
So now I'm stuck with locked phone and I don't know what to do, help please!!!
Edit: figured out how to use sony's pc companion to update/reset, it's taking forever but hopefully it will work...
Next time this happens write your pattern down before you forget
Reinstall recoverys often, after flashing a rom they disapear
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'll write it down now for sure, or at least not make a hard one just before sleep!
And it's all stock for me, guess I'm gonna read on how to get recovery mode now.
That's one feature I used to like about CM ROMs. There was a pin number you set in the event you forgot your lock pattern. Pity this isn't a standard feature with KitKat

MM locking with password "randomly"

so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!
