[Q] Recovery mode help - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought the phone last night, set it all up, went to bed, woke up and forgot my lock pattern... Googled what to do, seems like reset is only option (didn't enable usb debugging and can't log in to google account because I didn't leave the internet on and it doesn't accept my password), try to enter recovery mode and nope. Can't. LED light never lights up like all the guides say.
So now I'm stuck with locked phone and I don't know what to do, help please!!!
Edit: figured out how to use sony's pc companion to update/reset, it's taking forever but hopefully it will work...

Next time this happens write your pattern down before you forget
Reinstall recoverys often, after flashing a rom they disapear
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I'll write it down now for sure, or at least not make a hard one just before sleep!
And it's all stock for me, guess I'm gonna read on how to get recovery mode now.

That's one feature I used to like about CM ROMs. There was a pin number you set in the event you forgot your lock pattern. Pity this isn't a standard feature with KitKat

[Q] Retrieve contacts and data with a cracked screen?

Today I cracked the screen on my sgs2 while it was in my pocket, I have no idea how it happened but the good news is my service provider is replacing the phone for free.
The problem is I only get a blue line across the screen, I know the phone is working because I am still recieving messages and it rings etc but I cant unlock the screen to get it into mass storage mode to retrieve my data!
Any idea if I can get into the phone any other way to retrieve contacts etc?
No backup ???
Or Nandroid backup ??
jje
People should sync with google more. For anyone reading this: go into Contacts, press menu, and select Merge with Google (it should be something like that, my os language is Dutch).
This way you can see al your contacts at contacts.google.com
@topic starter: have you tried looking at http://contacts.google.com if your contacts are stored here?
Have you tried adb as long as debugging was turned on which some roms do by default it should work. Or boot into recovery then use adb.
I have tried adb it doesnt seem to do anything, how do I put the phone into recovery?

Vol up--->Home--->Power. Hold this three buttons on the same time and release when Samsung logo apperas
Well, I couldnt get the phone inot recovery mode either, but now my replacement has arrived I guess I just have to bite the bullet and use an older backup.
Is there any app or a way that I can install something on my phone so that if the screen ever breaks again I can access my data not just to back it up but to delete it?
I just assumed you are rooted (most people on this site are) but I should make sure so that you actually had a recovery with adb, are you? I don't know if the stock one does.
If not flashing cf-root using download mode would give you CWM recovery.
No I am not rooted, I was unsure if rooting was reversable and didnt want to void my warranty, Im even more scared off now that I know the screen can break when the phone is in my pocket and hadnt been mis-used or dropped at all!
Well the phone is already wrecked so the warranty is already gone. Just root it so you can get your data.
The main problem is do you remember your software version so you can use the right cf-root kg* kernel.
the phone is still under warranty, and has been replaced. I would now like to know how to prevent this from happening in the case of the screen breaking again?
Wow I never knew of a warranty that would cover physical damage like a broken screen.
For the new phone make sure the first thing you do is to turn on usb debugging so that you can use adb on the stock rom.
Also another possibility for getting data (just a theory) but if any remote control software (VNC etc) in the Market AUTO STARTS with the phone, it could be installed by using market.android.com then control the phone from your computer as long as wifi was on.
I don't know if any exist like that though and a quick search showed one VNC server but you had to open the app and turn on the server.
Edit: I wasn't thinking of the limitations of adb data access when not rooted, so well it is still a good idea for the new phone you may want more ideas from other people

[Q] Stuck in Flight mode due to of NFC ring Unlock app

I installed the NFC Ring Unlock application from McLear on the EZ2 tablet, which seemed to function well with my NFC ring.
I did one thing differently, because I don't like to give my Google master password to a 3-party app , I used an app password specifically for the NFC ring, which I considered to be one-time and didn't write it down
Then I had to fly and put the device in flight mode and powered it off some time later.
Now I get the NFC Ring Unlock screen in flight mode when I power up the device, but I can't get the unlock screen to work (NFC is also switched off in flight mode, didn't realise that and the Google authentication is also not working) and I can't get out of flight mode!
What I tried already:
Resetting the device by voulume-up/power, red button in SD-card and PC-companion connection.
Trying to hit the "normal" unlock screen which appears for a sub-second period.
Contact McLear, but they are flooded at the moment, because of the roll-out of their new products.
But neither of this works because they all depend on unlocking the device first.
Any advice?
If your device is unlocked and you have USB debugging enabled, you should be able to deinstall the App with ADB (Adcvanced Debug Bridge).
I guess that with the locked original Sony Bootloader, this doesn't work, though.
You could do a remote wipe with play device management:
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?hl=da&u=0
If Sony's software detect it when you connect it to computer, you might also have some options there. I am using Mac and only see repair device ,under the Xperia menu, as a potential solution.
Hey Svan, damn it sucks you are getting stuck by this! Sorry!
1. Did you try posting on the NFC Ring forum?
RE "3-party app" our app never stores your details, we use the Google provided Google Auth libraries to handle the authentication process. I can personally guarantee and promise at no point do we store or use your username/pass, we just get a success/failure callback from them and act accordingly.
2. Is it possible you can use your Google Auth or is your work-around preventing you from doing this?
We're actually just beta testing an updated version of the app that forces users to enter a pin code to handle circumstances such as this. Flight mode and two-form factor auth have been an issue for us so we're taking pro-active steps to address it ASAP This doesn't help you though ;(
3. As BabelHuber asked, do you have debug mode available? If so a simple adb uninstall of the app will get you moving again.
Sorry about the delay through support, I just took another team member on today to help with the backlog, he starts tomorrow so hopefully things will move faster!

Found a solution
I had a the exact same problem, and luckily I found a solution just in the moment I had already decided to factory reset.
I have the stock rom/bootloader/etc installed, no root.
Well anyway, factory resetting the phone is not an easy task either, so this is what I did to get to the factory reset option in the boot loader:
I pressed power for a loooong time, then the phone shutdown, I pressed power and vol-down for a looong time.
Some kind of boot menu appeared, I chose recovery.
At first I was stuck with a red triangle with an "!" over a lieing android. I found that pressing and holding power for 1 second then, while still pressing power, pressing "vol up" for 1 second and releasing both at once, presented me a special menu, wich contains the factory reset and option ... and also a mysterious "wipe cache" option, which sparked an idea of how I might circumvent the factory reset...
I remebered, that after the last OTA update the phone was so busy after reboot, that the NFC Unlock app was loaded after a long delay, while I was already able to interact with the phone.
So I though what the heck, before factory resetting the device I might as will try wiping that damn cache and see wether that caused the delay.
After wiping the cache, I booted and Android went through all those apps, and then showed the launcher/home screen without the widgets loaded etc, for just long enough to switch off the airplane mode, before the unlock app was loaded and immediately locked the screen again.
It might have helped that I disabled the SIM Card PIN check, i don't know.
Only this time I could unlock it normally :silly:
I hope this helps

[Q] How to put my password on a broken screen

hey guys, I own a Nexus 4, kitkat original ROM,not rooted, disabled for USB Debugging, and yesterday it fell on the street and broke the lower-right part of the touchscreen, which is right the part that the pattern to unlock is at. So now i'm not able to unlock the phone, and i can't also put the "forgot the pattern" option cuz almost half of the keyboard doesn't work. I'm going to buy a new phone, but I don't want to lose everything I have, so i was looking for solutions to unlocking the phone or at least accessing the files without going through the screen. i won't use it ever again, so any option at all for me to recover the files is good, no matter what. I thought of some ways to recover, but i'm not familiar with them, so i thought you guys could help:
-mirroring the screen on the pc so i could unlock it
-hacking through the password to either access the files on the pc or using the phone
-bypassing the lockscreen somehow
-tricking it so that the pattern would appear at the top of the screen instead of at the bottom
-hell even opening the phone sounds good to me if i could use its files after
thanks in advance,

How about you change your gmail password to coincide with what you CAN press on the keyboard so that when you enter a password, you'll be able to enter it.

That is actually a good idea, but i would also need to change my gmail, cuz i also need to type my email address. Do you know if there is any way of doing this?

Someone please help, for this Idiot :D

Hey Everyone. I have a extremely annoying and stupid problem with my phone
I have Z5 Premium. What happen is that my phone was always locked with fingerprint and pin number. BUT, for some reason after installing some applications and launchers to try on my phone my locking system sometimes didn't work. Some it lets me just to swipe my finger and I unlocks the phone, without asking for pin... sometimes it asks and sometime it don't, it started to be very annoying so I wanted to check if I change it to password instead of pin if it will be the same. The good news is, it looks like it fixed that problem and the bad news is my phone is so f***ing safe now that I can't even unlock it my self!
I created that password for very temporary time, for some extremely stupid reason I used password which I never used it anywhere else, it was only 4 letters and at that time it looked very easy to type and remember it but I was wrong... I reminded it for 20 mins than I felt a sleep for a short nap and when I woke up, its gone I'm trying to guess that pass and unlock it for 4 straight days now!!
I know I can do hard reset and start again from scratch but I don't want that. I just made all the setups for my phone and everything and I don't want to loose whats in it.
So what options do I have? I found quite few good methods but usually I'm not able to do one of the steps in it..
I tried Google Device Manager method, it didn't work because I already had password not a pin or pattern so it didn't let change pass
The best one I found so far is to flash a script through CWM to remove my pass. The only thing is my phone is stock at the moment and unrooted so I don't have CWM. Another problem is I don't think USB Debugging is enabled on my phone which creates even more problems in my situation I couldn't even get my phone into normal recovery mode when I tried with this phone, anyone know how to do it?
So guys, what options do I have without resting and deleting everything on my phone again?? Please help me, as this thing drives me crazy form 4 days now... I want to smash my phone into wall or my fu****g head because I set that pass up...
Ps. Is it possible to do a android backup on my phone? with looked screen and debugging disabled? but somehow so it doesn't backup my lock screen pass to? I dont think so my self but may be Im wrong..
thanks
I just found another method which I will try now, it could work...
nope, usb debuging needs to be enabled on that method too.. :/
never mind "helpful people" sort it out by my self.. how do i delete this threat??
Hi, I have the exact same problem but I want to hard reset the phone as it is new. What should I do to achieve that?

Unable to unlock phone after update.

My phone updated overnight. I use the gesture unlock feature. Because the phone restarted, it requires me to use the gesture unlock instead of biometrics. If I input the wrong set of gestures, it says "Incorrect direction drawn". If I input the correct set of gestures, it pauses, the screen goes dark as if I'd hit the power button, but it does not unlock.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Thanks.
Does anything happen if you plug it in immediately after the correct gesture?
Plug it into a power cord? I tried that, but didn't see any different behavior.
I also booted into recovery and wiped the cache as I saw that worked for someone on Sprint with the same issue. Unfortunately it did not resolve the issue on my phone.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'd try samsung switch from a pc and do a device initialization at this point or maybe try using Odin to flash a stock firmware of your carrier
I tried Switch, but it couldn't do anything with the phone locked.
I also booted into Safe Mode, but that didn't help.
I eventually decided to reset the phone. Everything is working now, but lost some of my data.
I'm sorry I didn't see this before you did the reset. If you have the samsung account setup, it could have been use to remote unlock the device. Sign to "find my mobile" from the web, and the phone needs to have data on. In the list of option on the you will unlock.
Oh, that's a good idea. That would have been so much easier. I probably knew about that feature at one time.
I'm now going through the long process of setting up my phone again. Samsung backup has restored a lot, but still a lot to do.
Thanks.

I had a similar problem. Phone wouldn't let me do anything as I had an endless loop of system UI loops. Had to factory reset but luckily my Samsung backup ran slightly before the update.
