OTA Rootkeeper - Verizon LG G3

I remember back in the day, there was an app called OTA Rootkeeper. Does that thing still work? I think I used to use it with my original Moto Droid or my G-Nex. But anyway, can I still use that when/if LG and Verizon sends out an OTA to preserve root?

Rootkeeper hasn't worked since 4.3, so "no".
There's an update app you can disable by freezing (or renaming). Possibly someone will tell us which app that is.

In titanium the app is simply called system updates. Freeze that and you won't be notified of on ota or unexpectedly updated by an ota. I think the apk is called lgdmsclient.apk for manually renaming (not 100% on that though)

Well I froze "System updates 1_13_10_0" with TIBU, then checked for updates and it FC'd so I think that's the one. Thanks.

Shouldnt you freeze keychain too? Thought you mentioned that in another post.

Someone else thought that. My understanding is no, it's not required to be frozen. But this device has some differences from the g2, so I'm not ruling it out. We'll find out when the first ota drops!

Keychain is also a legit android system app not an lg one. I wouldn't freeze it. A quick search shows it handles encryption, similar to log in/root passwords in Linux. I don't see the relation to OTA's.

OP, Since Jelly Bean and now KitKat a root keeper probably won't work.
The best policy after rooting is disable updates and then wait to update until a root method is found.
This method is to be used if root is important to you.

When I looked at keychain today I got the same impression -- it is a master certificate/key management app, not something to mess with for stopping OTA.

thanks guys, i froze the system updates app. appreciate your responses!

What happened to my Hulu Plus app??

Quick question. I rooted my NT, and to block OTAs all I did so far was to freeze DeviceManager 2.3.4 using Titanium Backup. I've been looking through all my apps, selected Hulu Plus and nothing happened. So I uninstalled, and went to the Android Market to re-install, but now it says it's incompatible. Anybody else having this problem? And how would I fix it?
That is weird. I rooted mine and blocked the OTA. I can still find my Hulu+ app when I use the Go Launcher EX.

I used Indirect's method of rooting. Again, I have not done the full OTA block; my software version says "unavailable". I wonder if keeping it like that, versus getting it to 9.9.9 has anything to do with it???
Here's the Hulu+ apk.

Can;t update B&N Apps after Root

Has anyone had trouble using the 'check for updates' feature on the stock B&N App Library? I have a couple of apps that were purchasedfrom B&N and newer versions are available, but I can't get the updates after rooting. I have tried archiving the apps and reinstalling, but the old version gets reinstalled, not the new version. Any ideas on how to get B&N app updates?
Thanks, William
is it roots fault?
If the apps are really worth it to you, you could always use the acclaim.update method to restore before root and then archive the update apps. Then, when you re-root make sure you don't debloat any of the Nook software (if you debloated the first time). Good luck, see if it works.

I used part of your suggestion and found a work around solution. There is no need to unroot the Nook. Simply archive the apps (which uninstalls them) then go back to the B&N app store and un-archive the same apps....it downloads the latest version and installs it. There is one odd thing I discovered.....if you have set a "Password for Purchases" you will have to remove it before it will download the new version.
Thanks for the archive suggestion.

Yup, they reset permissions on /system, /system/bin, and /system/xbin. The backup will need to be in a location that they don't explicitly reset permissions for during an update. For anybody who is curious, you can pop open the dlpkgfile and look at updater-script in the directory META-INF\com\google\android\. At the very end of the file you can see all of the permissions that get reset.

Not sure what you are getting at here. Does what you said mean they can move the file to another folder that does not have permissions changed prior to the update and keep root? or does it need to be in system to work?
Something strange is going on here, i restored root with OTA root keeper, everything worked well and when i check status it states that my device is rooted and root permission granted.
Titanium Backup works perfectly as well, but other apps like Gesture Control are unable to get root access and when i run a root checker app it says that I dont have proper root access. Is there a way to fix this? Or is my root lost? I still have some hope as it works fine with TB
Stuff i'm still able to do:
-Temp unroot/reroot with OTA root keeper
-delete SU backup and make a new one
-Use Titanium Backup
-Use any root explorer i've tested so far, i can also access /data folder!
-Use Terminal emulator
-Also the file system/bin/SU is present.
What i cant do:
-app: gesture control
-update my SU binary with superuser app
-update my busybox using BusyBox free from play store
there must be a way!

Check the root thread in the development forum. Somebody in there has a method for regaining full root for the folks who were lucky enough to have partial root like you after the update. Can't test it myself but it sounds promising.

Uninstall and then reinstall the superuser app from the market. Then run the superuser app. This should be the only thing that needs to be done.

I am waiting for somebody to post a guide on how to keep the root before the update. I have Voodoo OTA and superuser, they seem to be up to date. But it seems to me many others where on the same boat and lost the root... and reading this thread I have no clue what needs to be done to keep it.

If you backed up before voodoo was update with the new location (or you OTAed to .30 since the last backup), it is possible that you may lose root.
To be safe you may want to delete and re-backup the root from within voodoo before you update.

Could you be more clear on that? Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper v.2.0.3 does not have an option for "deleting the root". There is a "delete su backup" button, and "temp. un-root" one. Could you clarify which of those should be used and in what order? And can others confirm that this method will keep the root after the Jelly Bean OTA update - or is it still a hit or miss?

How block OTA update messages/install after root?

I got a new S4 today and am going to root it this evening.
My phone did already download and try to install the update, but I postponed until 1 PM tomorrow and left the "automatic" option unchecked.
After I root - what's the method on the S4 to block the phone from trying to install the OTA update?
Thanks.
SOLUTION: As you'll read below, rename or freeze SDM.apk and you will block OTA reminders/update.
Download titanium back up and try to freeze SDM ,I believe in order to freeze you may have to purchase the pro version but it's worth it. Let us know if that works for you

OK, thanks, I'll give that a whirl. I've owned TiBU since the very early days, so no problem there.

rooted me7 and s4 still updating, what am I missing
Folks, I seem to be missing something here and I was hoping someone could shed a little light my way. I rooted with the me7 method. Rooted fine, installed superSU and titamium backup pro. Everything went smooth. I froze fwupgrade.apk and sdm.apk. Then I renamed /etc/security/otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak. The I renamed /system/app/wssyncminps.apk to wssyncminps.apk.bak
This morning my phone started updating as soon as I went on wifi. I actually think wifi was off when I shut the phone off last night. Turned the phone on this morning and wifi was already enable and updating. A little spooky for me. So what have I failed to do to stop this phone from updating. I'm very new to this phone stuff so the more detailed info you can give would be highly appreciated.
Thanks all and a special thank you to whom ever made the me7 root method. Light years ahead of me.
Update: cant remember exactly what i was doing but a message popped up and said for security purposes , all updates except for what is available via google play store is blocked. So am I protected from new kernal that would remove root. Also if I uninstall apps will they be reloaded via updates from google play. I searched and dont seem to find these answers. If I missed them sorry.
Update: learning as I go and having a blast. OK I discovered auto update to google apps was set to update automatically on wifi so I fixed that issue but still wondering if it will auto update and reinstall apps I deleted.
Accessing the fwupdate.apk and sdm.apk files
Have looked around in my root directories on my DroidX and cannot locate the fwupdate.apk and sdm.apk files. Understand I can freeze them with Titaniium or just rename them to block OTA updates.
But what directory are they in?
I assume the answer will be the same on newer Android phones, since I am looking to get a Note 3 and want to be sure I have the details straight before I try root with it..
Many thanks!

For those who haven't figured it, the files referenced are not located in the directory. They are system files. Go into settings -> more -> application manager. However, you will not be able to rename or disable them from here. Instead, download NoBloat from the play store. Use this app to disable both.

[Q] How to disable Playstore Updates?

Hi guys,
just got my new phone and unfortunately i had to realize, that there are some apps i cant install.
I know that this issue depends on my Playstore, so i want to install a custom playstore with no restrictions.
Did this many times on other phones and never got problems.
But this time there is a problem:
I can install the modded version of the playstore without any problems. But it self-updates every time and i cant do anything against.
In the Last android versions there was a "Market Updater" App, which you could just freeze to avoid this.
But in my Android 4.2.2 theres no such app.
Any Ideas how i can prevent the Playstore from updating?

Dude you sure about that, I mean if you have knowledge how to install custom play store than you must have the basic knowledge from where to disable the auto update feature.
goto play store>settings>Auto update apps select here none.
After this you will have to manually update all your apps that you want.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your query..

which phone do you use by the way? cause it could also be that the apps you miss are incompatible with the phone.
there is however, an app that also appears to be able to remove the restrictions (i think with a proxy of some kind), this app is mostly used for apps unavailable in certain countries.
