Just curious who has the old $30 plan and how much you guys are using with your M8's? Post your usage.
I'm on that plan, I only use 1-2 Gb per month tho.

I average about 8gb a month but after that 5gb mark they throttle my speed down to a fifth of what i normally get.

Its been asked and attempted before on various devices; and I've never seen a solution that worked.
I'm still on a grandfathered unlimited plan as well. I'm not sure if "enjoying" is the right word, as I'm constantly cognizant of, and trying to stay under the 5GB throttle limit.

Means you changed data plans to the lte unlimited. Because it's two different plans they will show twice on your statement and when checking data usage
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I went through that during the time I activated my phone and I'm still clarifying some AT&T screw up on my account right now. Make sure that your grandfathered in data plan is transferred over and no "pro-rated" addition $10 is added.

How do you have unlimited LTE? Is this like that VZ work around? Im thinking of getting a VZ phone as a holdover if the Journal comes out, since you can trick the plans into giving you unlimited data!

They say they start throttling but I've yet to go over that lately anyways, but there are ways around that too. I have no idea about what vzw users are doing to cheat the vzw system lol. I've thought about going back to vzw, but at the moment its like leaving one thief for another.

It seems to be like how Comcast does throttling. They nab up a hand full of people and smack them down. Who knows. I've broke past the 4GB mark a few times.
Looks like the LTE unlimited plan will not be throttled before 5GB. HSPA+ is 3GB.

Negative. "If you have a 4G LTE smartphone and still have an unlimited data plan, the same process applies at 5GB of data usage, instead of 3GB."
so.. I'm confused. If i have an LTE phone in a market where there is no LTE --- is my threshold still 5GB? or is it 3GB?

Update: Ahh, you clicked the "what you need to know" button. Thats cool I guess. Are they admitting lte phones eat up much more data?
Kind of have to take this news with a grain of salt. 5GB was the prior threshold anyway, so LTE users aren't gaining any extra bandwidth prior to being throttled. Non-LTE users are just getting less.

I would think it would be determined off of the actual data plan attached to the phone. For example, notes have lte data. Where original s2 has hspa+ data.

No it wasn't the previous threshold, explain all the users throttled at 2GB or less in January. Like me. This at least explains what "top 5%" means finally, and spells out when you will be throttled.

Thats what I said though lol. There are 2 selections for unlmited plans, you can view them online as well under manage features. Smartphone personal unlmited and lte personal unlimited. When I had the note, yes I returned it..long story, I had the lte unlimited plan. This morning it automatically switched back to the smartphone personal plan which I guess I'll be throttled at 3gb instead of 5gb. I thought I may have been left on the lte unlimited plan. Either way this is a good step for us unlimited data customers but still not great.

5GB was the unofficial mark for throttling last year until they lost their mind and started throttling unlimited plan users before 3GB even though we were paying the same as the tier plan for 3 GB. That is when ATT lost all credibility. I have never used over 2 GB but would have like to have seen a higher limit of like 8 or 10 GB.
At least we do not have a moving limit now we can plan accordingly.

That's good news, I pulled 5 GB last month basically streaming music in the car and with normal usage and that's with being on wifi all day at work because my building is a signal black hole. I don't know how they expect people not to go over these tiers they have, I can only imagine they are getting a lot of complaints from people going over and getting billed for it.

I think sooner or latter the ones of us that have truly unlimited data will be able to sell the plans. I have 2 lines with unlimited data. Any takers lol
I received this text from AT&T today(see below)... Was wondering if they really do and how much they will throttle me.
The text
" ATT Free Msg: Your data usage on your 4G LTE smartphone is near 5GB this month. Exceeding 5GB during this or future billing cycles will result in reduced data speeds, though you'll still be able to email & surf the web. Wi-Fi helps you avoid reduced speeds. Visit www.att.com/datainfo or call 866-344-7584 for more info."
Thanks!

I'm using onavo personally. What about everyone else?
Unlimited grandfathered in plans get throttled at 5GB for 4G LTE data plans and I believe 2 or 3 GB for 3G & HSPA+ data plan.
If you have ICS, go to system settings then click data usage. You can set a data limit also. Its built in so you wont need to download an app.

From whatever the theoretical max bandwidth available for their area. Once they hit 5GB of usage, their speed was capped at .6 Mbps.
This was only one data point though, so as always, YMMV.
I hit ten plus gigs a month. They throttle at five but it's very easy to get un throttled. Just look into the ImEi trick . Basically call and update your imei with a 4g phone. Then call back with lte note and update. You are un throttled. Don't let them limit your data Usage.

I've been considering mentioning it. Because of the spectrum that Verizon bought, they cannot "double dip" into our pockets and are not allowed to charge twice for the same data, thus we're allowed to tether. This does not apply to unlimited because the data you use on unlimited is dictated by usage rather than by purchasing a set amount of data per month.

That's true, the thing I meant about unlimited was that if they switched to this they wouldn't have it anymore. And instead of tacking on $30 extra to there bill for the hotspot that the root for wifi is better for them.. but if a person doesn't have unlimited, this plan would be one to think about

I was about to convert my unlimited data plan to a 6GB plan since I only use 4.2 on average and thats without the tons of reliable wifi hotspots I have around me. But then I realized this phone kicks at 1080p, so things like youtube/netflix streams are going to be coming in at higher bitrates. I'll also probably use the phone more than my thunderbolt for general web-surfing since it look so much better. Basically, this phone is going to kick up my consumption levels several factors. 6GB is barely enough for my thunderbolt, I have a feeling I'm going to break the bank with the DNA. So I paid full retail just to keep unlimited.
