G3 wireless charging, any solutions? - Sprint LG G3

So, part of the reason i bought this phone was the built in wireless charging. Well it was a big surprise to me [emoji30]when i got my new Qi charger today, and it wouldn't work. I never thought that it wouldn't be built into the battery cover.
So has anyone found a inexpensive, not the ebay 120.00 battery cover, way to add the charging into backs that came with our phones?

You can get the Verizon Wireless Charging Circle case for 59.99

Well, looking for a replacement back or just the qi receiver sticker, I'm not a fan of the flip cases.

I feel the same way. I don't want the circle case, but i really want Qi charging. I guess we will have to wait for them to release a Qi charging backplate only.

Guess this is what i get for getting a phone on day 1 that it's available. I just wish that they would have come out of the box ready to go. Wondering if we can modify one of the adapters from another model phone to work temporarily?

I'm thinking with minimal tweaking this could be made to work.

How does it interface with the phone (both this pad and the G3)? Does it have pins on the case and battery cover?

Yes there are 4 pins on the phone case that should connect to the battery door, but only the two for nfc are being used. My thought, i could easily make an adapter to connect if needed. Minimal soldering to the temp receiver coil.

[Q] Wireless chargers that work for the 920

One of the things I was really excited about with the Lumia 920 was the built in wireless charging feature. Since the Nokia charging plate was selling for about 70 bucks (ouch) I decided to see what alternatives were available. I've tried two different wireless chargers so far with mixed results:
LG Electronics WCP-700 - This charger works great and I was able to snag it from amazon for 35 bucks shipped. If you want wireless charging but don't want to pay 70 bucks for one charger, then I highly suggest this model. You can get 2 for the price of one Nokia Charger.
Powermat 2x - I was hoping the community could give me some advice on the powermat. Naturally if you plug the powercube into the phone, it will charge just fine. BUT I noticed that if you put a charging plate on the charger and then put the 920 on top of it, the 920 will begin to go into charging mode, although when i tried doing that, it didn't really seem to be charging at any noticeable rate( I may have been taking the phone off the charger too frequently though). Does anyone know exactly what voltage and amperage the powermat wirelessly charges at? My concern is that the volts or amps will be off and damage could be done to the battery in my lumia 920. Any thoughts?
Good questions! I was wondering the same thing about the different mats out there.
What about the Energizer one?
Also, the LG one apparently beeps a lot...does it do so with the Nokia? When it finishes charging it turns off and lets the phone run off battery for a bit, then turns back on to top it off again, causing it to beep each time it turns on throughout the night. Have you noticed this?

From what I've read, the Energizer QI chargers will work fine with the 920, I just didn't get one since the LG model was a bit cheaper. The LG one does beep, although I haven't found it to be too much of an issue. When I place the phone on the charger, the LG mat will beep and show the green charging icon, and my phone will make the connection noise. I also think the mat will beep occasionally when the phone is charged, since it lets the battery drain a bit, then starts charging again, although last night it didn't wake me up at all while I slept. You could probably remove the speaker from the LG pad fairly easily, although from my experience, it's not bothersome enough to be worth the trouble.

Doesn't the PowerMat use a different wireless charging standard? I thought I read somewhere it wasn't the QI standard.
PowerMat is its own standard.
Not sure where you are, but the plate is $50 and the stand is $70 here.
Might want to try mail-order?
As for other plates, I have a few lying around, but I don't want to risk my phone trying them without knowing. I have 2 plates and a stand, so I am pretty covered.
Philips DLP7210B/10 also works with the Lumia 920.
I ordered a Palm Touchstone off Amazon for $6 and free shipping. I'll know in a few days when it gets here if it works or not, but I read somewhere that it should.
Sorry to disappoint you, but the Touchstone does not work. It makes the charging notification sound, but the battery still drains; it doesn't charge at all.
I have the Maxell Airvolt QI charger. It works but the phone seems to get warm unlike the Fatboy charger I use at night.

I really hope someone makes a 12v charging pad to keep in your car. Plug into the cig lighter and lay the phone on the "pad" somewhere in the car. I know the new dodge cars have it as an option now.

There's no reason why a 12v adaptor of sufficient ampage wouldn't work. Just match up the plug and polarity to the DC adaptor that comes with the charging pad.
But obviously a QI charger is not designed for use in a car. QI only recently release their guidelines:
http://www.wirelesspowerconsortium....ermarket-chargers-v-10.pdf?force-download=yes
It seems there are two current wireless charging standards: QI and PMA
Powermat are PMA, and this is a copyrighted licensed standard, i.e., Powermat will get revenue/license on each device. There is a limited trial in Starbucks.
QI is open, and I think a "free" standard. They have public charging spots in Japan, and Japanese handsets are predominantly QI
This is all just what I've recently read, so I'm not an expert or utterly certain it is correct, but it does seem that Nokia 920's are to the QI standard, and so any QI charging plate should work...?

I personally plan to do just this. I figure a Qi compatible charger hard wired into the car, then find a good place to mount it with a thin grip pad covering it. It should work just fine.

Ooooo, my Edge has a little 'shelf' under the console that has a ribbed rubber bottom. And it has a 12v plug right beside it. I bet my husband (the engineer) might be able to wire up a charging plate. He would need to shorten the cord so it wouldn't flop around. But he's very good at that sort of thing.
This is a great idea! He works overseas but I think I have a new 'honey-do' for him on his next R&R. Thanks!

I personally think it would be awesome to be able to integrate QI wireless charging into a tabletop. think about it, when you sit down at a table for dinner, you usually take your phone out of your pocket, right? what if you could charge it while you eat? why doesn't starbucks do this?:highfive:

DIY Qi Wireless Charging Case

I ordered mine this morning!! YAY
The first thing I'm going to do is work on plans for doing a Qi Wireless charging case. I figured I would use a thick piece of wood (or 3D printed piece of plastic ) as the "case" with a cut out for the Qi parts salvaged from something found on eBay or Amazon (from a iPhone charge case etc) and connect it all via the magnetic charge port. What I was hoping to figure out is if anyone knows the positive or negative sites on the magnetic charge connector?? Or does it even matter?
I know this project will add some bulk to the already large device, but I really would like wireless charging as I have fallen in love with it!!
Thanks in advance!
David
One thing to factor in mind is the slow charging rates with wireless charging.
With the quick charge function on the S800, you can probably go from 0-100 in 2hours. Whereas with wireless charging it could take 8+ hours. Great if you just want to leave it on your desk at work I guess, but from personal experience with modding the note 2 to be wireless charging compatible, it was rarely a practical as I always used the cable > wireless.

Wireless charging Receivers

Anybody see any wireless charging receivers yet? like the patch one? I am not sure I feel like adding the bulk of the full back plate to the phone. I have never tried these and wonder if the work as well.

Samsung is rolling out a wireless charger for the note 3, you would only have to change the back cover of the phone with one that supports wireless charging.

I have purchased from TigerDirect - many years ago - and they were reliable then. I presume the same is true now... They are I the US and have been in business a long time... I just ordered two charging docks from them.
Note: I have already ordered the wireless charging back cover from Verizon because I actually prefer OEM products and wanted to make sure it was from Verizon as I have the Verizon phone so I know it will be true OEM and work flawlessly...

Samsung spare battery and charger are not Qi compatible?

Hi all,
I'm posting this in case anyone else purchases this gear and thinks they can use it like the original battery that comes with the Note 3.
There is another post in this forum that talked about a 50% off code until June, so I bought this:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EB-K800BUWESTA
Even with shipping/tax, it only came out to ~$31. I thought great deal.
It arrived and I noticed that you can't use it like you would the original Note 3 battery where I stuck a Qi-enabled sticker on it and could use it to wirelessly charge my spare battery when the main one runs down, figured I'd just buy another Qi-enabling sticker.
Thing showed up and it's NOT Qi-compatible. Meaning, it has no contacts on it that let me attach a Qi sticker. Not sure if it's by design that way but just thought I'd provide a heads up in case anyone else is looking to buy this.

There is two ways to do this,
1 modify the unit to support qi by adding a receiver inside.
2 use a USB receiver or a USB dongle.

1. Are you planning on opening up the battery to do this? Sounds like a lot of work and possibly ruining the battery if you screw it up
2. If you use a USB receiver, aren't you then completely ignoring the point of having wireless charging? I don't think I understand #2 completely.

1 you can open the battery charger that come with the battery and put a qi receiver inside, the battery charger then can be placed on a home transmitter.
2 connect a USB qi receiver through the USB port on the battery charger.
If you actuall want just the battery with qi built in, it's only available for the S3, S4 and note 2, if it's not qi, but supports wireless charging, other batteries are available for older phones models.

QI charging with such a big battery will end in 6+ hours from 0-100% as the QI Charging current is restricted.

the whole point is to avoid messing with the flaps too much (when you have to plug/unplug microUSB cable) to avoid unnecessary wear & tear...
it takes maybe 2-3 hours to charge my nexus 5(2300mAh) on Qi, probably 3-4 for the z3 (3100mAh)
Yeah, I now. But our Z3 offers a magnetic charging port - which also allows full charging current and this adds no bulk
Also you can charge everywhere and only have to carry a small cable instead of a bulkier QI charger. Or you chan use a dock, whatever you prefer.

Well, the point of Qi is that it's universal. E.g. a Nexus charger will work with a Lumia, will work with a GS4. Z2 and Z3 can't even use the same dock.
I get why Sony used the magnetic charger, the thinnest qi coils are still around 1mm. When the phone is 7.3mm thick, it adds up. But personally, I wouldn't mind a thicker phone, but I understand their reasoning.
I absolutely agree. If QI was readily available for most battery operated devices that would be very convenient. As it is now it does not matter if you buy a magnetic charger or QI, because you have to buy each for your phone.
The Z2 dock works for the Z3 - no problem there.
I'm torn between this and the Style Up cover with the window. I don't see why they couldn't add the smart cover functionality to the Qi case. I upgraded from a Nokia Lumia and I have a couple of wireless chargers at home that I was hoping to continue using.
Then again, this Qi case costs more than the Style Up cover and the dock combined!
The style up cover has been delayed until November 4th according to an email I got from Amazon today.
I did look at the Qi charger for the Z2 but it was/is quite ugly and bulky. So it's mag charger for me. One dock and two plain magnetic connector cables.
I have two Qi charging plates and they're already quite busy charging a N7, G3 and 1520. And they do all take a long time to charge, and the N7 charges to full and then just starts to drain without ever topping up again. So leave it for a few days and it will have charged and then drained. No such problems with the magnetic connector.

My G3 takes 2.5 hours from 2%-100% with a 3000mah battery. Qi charging is fairly fast if you use a 1A output qi charger
USA's Verizon exclusive Z3v has QI built-in, that's actually prety useful if you ask me. I use the magnetic charging on my Z1 but QI would probably be more convenient. Too bad Brazil's model doesn't seem to come with this feature. I just don't get it, why put in on Verizon's model but not on global's. Maybe I'll just stick with my Z1 for longer and get the Z4 when it comes out (hopefully with QI built-in and optical image stabilization)

I don't quite understand that as well. Why does only the Verizon one have it? Maybe they are saving it for the Z4 or they just don't want to implement it into the Z3 that is already in production. I heard that the Z3v is a bit thicker than the regular Z3 because of the Qi Charging.. Besides that, I guess you can get the Charging dock fr the z3 instead. Either way, you won't have to remove the flaps so I guess it works. If the Verizon Z3 had international bands, I'd purchase that one instead (unless the carrier is branded all over the phone).
Verizon will most likely brand the hell out of it. Verizon is also CDMA, not GSM. won't work outside of the states.

It wont... because the magnetic charge connector on the Xperia Z3 can only receive power and cannot communicate. So there is no way it can detect if a magnetic charger is connected or a Qi chargepad.
Im searching the web for weeks now trying to find a bumper for my Z3 with Qi over magnetic connectors. I dont understand why companies did not come up with that allready. It wouldnt add any more thickness to the bumper, and you could easily charge 1000 mAh. In wich the Phone will charge in 3 to 4 hours i guess. Thats great when charging over night.
I see were you are comming from. The culprit is the QI charging pad output, so you are still left with that low current.
