[Q] Trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Sorry for starting a new thread. I'm overwhelmed with all the reading and corrections. Hopefully someone can help me.
1. Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (MODEL)SCH-I545
2. Running KitKat 4.4.2
3. Build: VRUFNC5
I rooted my Galaxy S3 so if I have everything I need I should be able to handle it. I prefer to do it from my PC if possible.
I'm currently downloading THECOMPLETEPACKAGE but it's massive @2.3GB

Google towel root. It's an app you install with one click root.

Can you help????
I downloaded new software update the other night. Now my phone is unrooted somehow.... On top of all that when i try to reroot my phone it says THIS PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. I been using towelroot for about the past 3 or 4 months. I don't understand

The Towelroot method only works with the nc5 and nc1 kernel i believe, not ng6.

[Q] Verizon I605 Note 2 rooting and update

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 S (I605) Running Android 4.1.2. the phone is rooted with TWRP (4.5.0). I was trying to Update to 4.3 but it keeps saying update failed and taking me back to the TWRP menu to reboot.
I want to know if there is a way to update to 4.3 on a rooted phone and if not, what steps work best.
2. I have FoxFi and I don't want to lose it. Is there a workaround for FoxFi if I do update to 4.3

I do know foxfi does work.. now the thing is do you want to have 4.3 and be unlocked still or do you want the OTA..If you want to stay unlocked and rooted just like you are you need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48681499 and follow the directions...
If you want to accept the OTA (which you will be locked and no way of unlocking yet...don't do it) go herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891181 and flash the MJ9 Odin image

[Q] kit kat upgrade

Hey guys,
So I have a rooted Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-1545 running the MK2 build. I've been getting software update messages from Verizon the past few days I'm assuming for the new kit Kat. Since I'm rooted will I be OK if I update the phone with the new software or does anyone know if I will have any problems with it? Cheers.

If you really want to update to Kit Kat and you're not worried about root you can simply Odin the kit Kat no wipe file.
If you want root you can follow one of the guides on here to keep root while upgrading... those are somewhat involved however so if you're not comfortable with Odin etc you may just want to stay on MK2. That's what I would do... More options to you on MK2

absolutely correct, at this point makes no sense to take 4.4 OTA, even with upgrade/downgrade available. Until issues are resolved and more ROMS are available for the non-mdk phone users thru safestrap its best stay back and wait a while.
Well Bob.. not many think of those things and rather just be on the latest and greatest. However once that wears off we see all the questions pop up on here regarding going back... Then the problems come with that process too so its just better IMO to sit tight unless your very good at troubleshooting and Odin.

couldn't agree more. Just look at the struggles so many have had with the upgrade/downgrade methods and odin issues, much can be blamed on the users trying this stuff and not understanding what they are getting into. Luckily (or unluckily) the avalanche of kitkat hasn't hit as there really aren't safestrap compatible roms out (except for maybe 2), once HD 16 comes out sit back and watch the fireworks as issues happen, even to those knowledgeable with odin.
safestrap, odin, udgrade/downgrade and no direct root method for kitkat gonna make the next few months interesting.

The ota update to NC5(KitKat) will fail because you are rooted but will not cause any harm after the failer. It will leave your current set-up intact(just clearing up this point for everyone). You will need to unroot before taking the ota update.
If you are running stock MK2 except for root you can easily upgrade to NC5 and maintain root access by following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749660

[HELP!] Need SafeStrap installed on NC2 build (vzw S4)

Hey guys and girls, I have a question for any of you pretty comfortable with SafeStrap...so, I'm helping someone with an update/upgrade - trying to get them to be able to run KitKat ROMs via SafeStrap on his Verizon S4. But first, I need SafeStrap working again.
OK, basically I brought him from MK2 to NC2 using @Surge1223's method and am now on NC2 (I guess its the rooted- leaked version?)
So...my question is, HOW IN THE WORLD do I get SafeStrap back onto his phone while running on NC2? (All I see are links upon links about SS on NC5)
Thanks SO MUCH to anyone who can help me out here... And yes, I've tried reading and reading...no luck yet

I just did a bit of searching and it seems NC2 is just the leaked version of NC5 and all that changed was a couple apps and a menu. That is secondhand information and may be incorrect I suppose. In any case, I have a NC5 build and used the exact Safestrap APK that I use for my device on my brother in laws S5. I reckon as long as you root/SuperSU/busybox/safestrap you should be good.

No. I said it was secondhand information and I could be wrong. I dont suppose I am though. But I might be. If it were my phone I would try it but I have soft bricked my s4 about four or five times now and am pretty comfortable fixing it so I dont hesitate to try new things. That is just me though.

Can't root my Samsung Galaxy S4 after trying different methods

So first I just want to say that I'm new here, nice to meet you all, and please forgive me if I'm asking this in the wrong place because it's a pretty large forum site, that I figured this was the best place to post my question.
I came because I am complete lost in rooting my Samsung Galaxy S4. I was able to root 2 others before without a problem but this one is basically denying it with Odin.
Carrier is At&t
It is unlocked.
Model is a SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
Baseband is I337UCUAMDL
Hope I can get it resolve here as it is a gift for my mother.
Thank you
Anyone? please.
What do you mean by being denied by Odin? And you have the MK2 update now? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 Works for ATT too if you're on MK2 (root does not depend on the modem version but the build version of the software)..

I mean that it keeps giving me a 'FAIL' whenever I tried rooting it with a .tar file that would usually get it to root.
It's an SAMSUNG SGH-I337
Not sure what more information you would need but would the link you posted help me?
You have to know the build number/version of the software before you know which method to root.

You're also on an older baseband version for that update. You might want to consider upgrading that part too.

There's only a few posts on this thread and 1 of them tells you what info you need to have before anyone can tell you what method to root. Not only that, but it usually varies between which variant of the S4 as well.
Im having time a hard what version of root im gonna use on my S4 5.0.1 GT-I9505..

Question about how to root a Galaxy s4 SPH-L720 on Lollipop?

Hello there everyone,
I was wondering is there any way to root the Galaxy s4 L720 on lollipop as of now? I saw a prerooted firmware which I installed then stopped working. So I'm look for a way to root it through odin or something...
Thank you all.
Me too. Anyone please help.

It typically matters about which build number of your software you're on. Typically, the Sprint S4 has always been rootable by installing a custom recovery and flashing Chainfire's SuperSU zip. He also created the CF AutoRoot, which works for that phone as well, but not sure if he updated it to work on the particular update you're on, since you didn't mention it.
