[Q] How to Disable Wrong Password Factory Reset? - Verizon LG G3

So, the LG G3 has a "feature" where if you input the wrong password 10 times, it automatically wipes itself and does a factory reset. I wasn't sure whether this was true or not so I tested it.
What a load of horse ****. I need help turning this "feature" off because it's so easy to lose all my data. Not only that, if someone takes my phone, all they have to do to get a clean phone is to input the wrong password 10 times.

LG rep says it can't be disabled. Stupid. I'm still talking to them, I dunno, maybe I can get the customer service to write this down as an actual problem to fix in a future update. If anybody else has this issue, please contact them as well, maybe we can get something done about this.
Or if someone figured out how to fix this in a rooted version, let me know please.

That sounds terrible. You might not even have time to use the android device manager to locate it. I wonder if you were to use the device manager to lock it if that would override the feature. In any case, stupid stupid feature.

Don't iPhones do the same thing? If Apple does it, it must be good.
The G3 warns when you're getting there. Not sure it's s good thing.

Nope. Just tried it. It threatened to wipe again.

Verizon said even if somebody resets my phone that way they can't use it on their account. I doubt the truth of that statement but I can't do anything about it. They also said 'talk to LG if you want that fixed' so no help from them, not that I was expecting it. Only option really is to just not let anybody else use my phone. So stupid.

n/a
This has to be the stupidest thing ever. I mean, a factory reset? Why don't they wipe /sdcard while they're at it?

LG rep that replied to my second email was the same guy, copy-paste of the same thing he said earlier.

Pretty sure this is a Verizon feature. My M8 did the same thing

It actually does wipe your SD card learned this the hard way yesterday when my son got hold of my phone..wiped the internal storage along with the SD card.. Needless to say I'm not a happy camper.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app

Good to know, my son loves to play with my phone, I'll have to make sure to keep it out of his hands or else I'm also going to be one pissed off user.

Soooooo stupid.
My other phones would allow password recovery via Google.
With this feature/bug it means someone just wanting to piss you off can wipe your phone, if they get hold of it for 20 seconds.
On the HTC M7/M8 you can disable this if you are rooted by setting "devicepolicy_max_fail_passwords_for_wipe = 0" in an XML file.
It has to be doable on this phone.
The lockscreen app has to get it's parameters/information from somewhere.

Sorry to bump an old thread but is there any solution to this yet?

so stupid
Just learned all this the hard way. Daughter got a hold of my phone and everything was wiped, including sd card. I am beyond upset. Why the check wouldn't they let you disable this feature. It is the stupidest thing ever and they need to fix it. Now I have to keep my phone on me at all times. Fix this

as far as the incorrect password too many times, i dont know, but doubt they changed that.
however, there were security upgrades to the 5.1 base from google.
now, if you factory reset with a gmail still on the phone, you must enter the correct password for that email, or you cant use or setup the phone.
so, no, it is no longer possible for someone to take your phone, then wipe it and use it without the gmail password that was attached previously.
what you have to do, say if you want to sell the phone, is remove all your emails BEFORE factory reseting, then the phone is no longer locked to the email, and someone else can set it up without password.
another note,
before someone says, "you can just flash the 35b kdz and bypass it" no you cant, the security is not some file that can be cleaned off. its encoded into the software, and requires communication with googles servers to disable with the password mentioned above.
there is a way to defeat the new security, for now, but as people buy new phones from this point on, there will be no way to defeat this security.
and, no, i will not say how to defeat it currently. its not widely known, and not usual that someone would need to know how to do it.

[Q] Edited Build.prop File, Now Phone wont Boot

In attempting to edit my Build.prop with root explorer to fix my Google Wallet issue, I must have screwed something up. When I try to re-boot the phone, it wont boot up.
My best guess is, when attempting to revert back to Build.prop.bk (or whatever the back up file was named), I deleted the .bk but didn't save it, and now have TWO DIFFERENT Build.prop.bk files, and no Build.prop.
I can boot into the screen that shows "Fastboot", "Recovery" (though I haven't installed any recovery and have not unlocked the bootloader), "Factory Reset", etc.
Is there any way to get to the Build.prop file using my windows computer or even using the phone, and check to see it's named correctly? I'd really like to not have to reset the phone.
Oh, I don't know if this is relevant, but I am rooted and the screen shows ***Tampered*** and ***Locked***.
Well, no answers so far.
I have since tried clearing storage AND restoring back to factory settings, but it still will not boot! Also, it is extremely difficult to get to the Hboot screen. Holding down power and vol down only works one out of maybe 6 or 8 times. I don't know why.

Well, I need to read about how to do that.
When you say that could risk a "bricked Google Wallet chip", do you mean it could screw up ONLY google wallet, or it could screw up my NFC chip altogether???
Also, any link on where to get and run RUU? That is the stock ROM, no? If my phone won't do a factory reset, I assume I have to download the stock ROM?
I also found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27248539
However, my Hboot screen also shows S-On, even though I had rooted. I may have left SuperSU with superuser off when this happened. Will that affect my ability to fix this?
Thanks.
im not 100% but i believe running ruu will unroot you and factory reset.also it will jst brick the secure element not other nfc capabilities.did you reset wallet before you messed up the build prop or was it still setup?
EDIT:here i the link for the ruu.also please don't follow that guide if you are not htc dev unlocked because it is impossible to flash a recovery unless your htc dev unlocked/unlocked bootloader
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Jewel
I had just got Google wallet working! The instructions I was following said, after you get it working, temp unroot and reboot the phone. Thats where I got stuck!
So no, I did not have the chance to re-set Google Wallet.
Thanks for the link. So is that the stock ROM? Will I have to update my PRL? Do I download the newest (higher version number)?
well you could possibly brick the secure element.if it bricks the secure element just unroot and take it back to sprint.yes download 1.13.xxx
no need to update prl
Well, I'm having no luck fixing this.
I am trying to use ADB and Fastboot on my Win 7 PC to flash the RUU to my phone. I don't really know if I'm doing it correctly though.
Edit: Well, I feel pretty stupid. I finally realized that an exe file needs to be run from the computer. I guess I'm just soooo frustrated I can't think.
So I ran it and it force closed. Let me try that again.
just click the ruu and follow the steps no need to use adb
Thank you, par05is!!!
That seems to have done it. You were the only one to reply, and I am grateful.
I just don't know how I f'd this up to begin with. Now I have to re-ad everything and re-root. But no Google wallet fixes for me.
If they want me to use it, they can fix it!!
No problem if you need help with the wallet I can help.they put unnecessary steps
Yes, that would be great.
But I'm more than a little worried, trying to do that is what got me into this mess in the first place! I successfully edited the build.prop file a couple of days ago to get file associations back, but I must have f'd up editing it again today.
Since I was un-able to reset Google Wallet before flashing that RUU, GW now tells me my country is not supported!

Yes, after the update I still get the "GW is not certified in your country or on your device/carrier.
I've tried un-installing the update, clearing the data, re-installing the update, but still get the message.
So mtg981, does the build.prop edit fix this? Or are you saying to forget Wallet right now till Google fixes it or someone comes up with a new fix?
some people are editing the build.prop file by using the model number of a nexus phone, in think it was. That id probably what you were trying? As much trouble as it has been, I'm forgetting about it. I heard Sprint was wallet's last carrier to support it, and now Sprint might be starting their own payment form.

Apple is trying to use iTunes for people to pay for everything. That is why there is the big race for carriers to develop their own "reliable" payment forms-like apple and iTunes. Apple could try and patent that some how, if they reach that point of letting people buy anything with their iPhone, through iTunes.
And that would suck! Another apple patent!

I hope HTC or Sprint patents it first (hint...go now Sprint/HTC to the patent office) and then stick it to the fruity one.
Why you wanna be hating on Apple?
All they want to do is copy your idea, patent it, and sue you for using it.

[Q] System State "Modified"

Okay so I was browsing my phone and happened to run across the System state saying "Modified"
The issue I am having is I have never even downloaded a rooting app. The only thing close to root I have used is called Helium, which does not require root, but it can backup/restore apps+data.
I am slightly worried that if I have to send my phone in for some reason they will see this and say I have messed with the system, although I have not in the first place.
Has anyone else encountered this random issue? Other than that this phone is quite a good phone and I'm pleased with it greatly.

Did you fully read his post before replying? I suppose my question is as rhetorical as yours...
My interpretation was that he has not installed one rooting app. One was left to assume he had rooted the phone or did not have a rooted phone which was the basis of my question. And yes I did read his post to answer your question. I would not leave you to assume I did from my response.

no big deal that it says that. move along
If you go to the Verizon store and look at the G3's they have on display, they all say "modified" instead of "official" however when I received my phone it said "official" until I rooted it.

Just flash it back to stock if you have any issues. May as well root now anyway. G3 tweak box is amazing!
Sorry for late reply, at work so hard to get on atm.
I have not touched a single rooting app to this phone since I bought it new the day they came out. I have thought about rooting it, but I am touchy when it comes to phones that are in warrenty.
Although I might just say heck with it and actually root it anyways since it's saying modified, my main concern was why it was already saying it was modified when I hadn't touched it yet. I have experience rooting/restoring phones/tablets ever since the mesmerize/desire/fascinate ages so it shouldn't be too hard
I doubt this has anything to do with it, but when it turns on from a restart/shutdown one of the verizon apps "vzrwsservice" or something like that says it has crashed and then goes away until i restart again.
Thanks for you replies though, if someone does come up with a phone that isn't rooted but says modified, I'd be interested to know so that we can figure what's causing this.
My unrooted Verizon g3 does not say modified. It says official.

Hypothetical.... lets say someone bought it, played with it and rooted it or botched a root and returned it. try root checker in app store. just saying. makes more sense then someone snuck in your bedroom and took it and rooted while you were sleeping and returned it.
Another hypothetical...
Could it switch to "modified" if one were not rooted but had disabled some of the bloat? Just a thought.

As of now, I cannot tell what it was to change it to modified, I went ahead and tried a reset through the settings and it kept the modified status, did a flash restore and it finally got rid of the modified and is now stating Official.
(To note that when it was in download mode it also stated modified before I flashed it with the ToT file.)
I did also find the reason for the verizon server to crash, which I cannot find the location of the thread elsewhere, but it is due to Google+ and one of verizons apps not being compatible with each other and eventually causing verizons app to crash. The only way so far to fix it is either downgrade google+ to stock, or disable the VerizonAvsService to stop the crash at boot.

Bloat app question

This isn't a thread about which are safe to disable. Those already exist.
Anyway, got my G3 on Friday after returning my G2 for warranty purposes (Best Buy was out of the G2, so they offered me a G3 at no cost. Yay me.) Had it rooted within 15 minutes of getting home. As with every phone I've ever owned, I immediately began to delete bloat and unnecessary/unwanted system apps that I know are safe to remove. I didn't disable or freeze them, I actually deleted them with Root Explorer. However, unlike with each of my previous devices, this phone has no custom recovery so I didn't make a backup prior to my bloat purge. It then dawned on me just as I finished, I bet I need my system to be nearly stock, with all packaged apps included, in order to accept OTA updates.
Am I correct? If so I'm assuming I'll have to TOT back to stock to take an update - unless someone wants to upload a zip with all the apps in /system/app and /system/priv-app so I can individually add back in the one I deleted (I kid of course).
Just kind of curious here. I know how to return to stock, just looking to be prepared more than anything. Thanks all.
Fortunately you probably have at least a month to figure out how to deal with this.
If Verizon ever releases any OTA update to the G3, I plan to carefully consider whether to use the TOT method to reset the phone to stock and install the OTA, or not. Maybe for L.
They are certain to break stumpRoot, for example.

Yes, I'm aware of this. Also, I know what I'm doing (went back to stock using the LG Flash Tool a few different times with my G2). I was just curious if I should be prepared to do so. This is my first phone without a custom recovery, so it's slightly uncharted waters for me. Had I just taken a moment to think about what I was doing I would have realized that freezing rather than deleting the apps was the smart choice. Thanks for the reply.

Help with Rooting, Flashing, & Unlocking Bootloader For LG Rebel LTE (L44VL)

I just bought this phone about 2wo weeks ago, & it's actually not a bad for a Tracfone. It runs on version 5.1.1. But forget specs lol. It's currently not activated, & I'm not so sure if that matters when it comes to the actual process of Rooting. I downloaded KingRoot, but I seen that before Rooting I would have to unlock the bootloader. So I followed the procedures only to stumble upon something wasn't right.. I couldn't put my phone in either fastboot, download, or recovery mode.. No matter what I did. I've tried every guide & forum, but nothing. I finally called my service provider to see if they could figure out what the problem was. They came to tell me that I wasn't going to be able to access those features until I activate the phone. (which sounds really suspicious & stupid) I noticed I can access safe mode. What sounds more suspect is that I have to pay for a plan just to activate it, which I never had to do with a phone before. Nevertheless, to sum it all up.. Is there an actual way around this craziness? I never had to go thru this much to root a phone. I honestly feel like there is no point of having an android without unleashing it's true potential. Please, any help would be great. :fingers-crossed:
I have the same phone and the same problem. Still have yet to find a way. anybody?
Looks as though Straight Talk (ST) sets it up that way. I have had other straight talk phones and have always had issues rooting their phones. In fact I have never been able to root their phones. Please someone, show us a work around solution these ST phones.
Same on net 10. Think its an lg thang...
activated my phone and have same prob...help
Funny how I have a LG Optimus Fuel that has really crappy specs and can root easily with android kitkat but this phone is lollipop and better specs and newer can't root at all. I think it is more bootloader locked and only ones that are not locked are mediocre to expensive phones from the manufacturer now. My Optimus Fuel is a Tracfone too, just like the Rebel. I doubt anyone is interested in getting this one rooted. I would not mind because when I rooted my Optimus Fuel it let me put my Micro SD Card into exfat instead of fat32, which exfat sound quality is better and boosted volume a couple db. Only thing with Optimus one is that 512mb makes the music randomly skip. So that is one reason to get the Rebel rooted but we are SOL with this device.
Straight Talk is newer than Tracfone, because Tracfone created Straight Talk. Not the other way around. Tracfone has been around the longest.

I am also having problems trying to Root my my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL) too. My Backup&Restore program of choice is Titanium, but it requires that my system needs to be "Rooted" first. I couldn't find any settings to do this (even when I enter 'Developer Mode'). I've even tried several popular Rooting app tools, including RootKing and Kingo Root (Mobile Version), but they all were not able to Root my system. Please help me with this problem...thank you very much.
At the moment I really only need to backup the critical *system* files, any recommendations?
Looks like this phone is never going to get the root attention it needs. It been out about a year now since release and nothing at all. No one cares about this phone.

No this phone sucks without root though lol.
I've been fiddling with this phone for months, the farthest I've managed to get was a temp root, which is undone when the phone is reset. My theory is that it's possible, if done within the timeframe before the phone resets itself, whether that means pushing files through adb or shell, or flashing a custom Rom. My phone has been through a number of battles, and has seen more bricks than a brick wall..but, I'm still at it.

This phone is the same as the Optimus Zone 3, or the LG Leon, or the LG K4, however the Optimus Zone 3 seems to be its direct ancestor.
I have successfully temp rooted with kingroot 5.2.2 and oem unlock, problem is a random crash/reboot soon follows which of course flushes all the root.
We worked on this phone and the zone 3 a few years back. Never had any luck with this handset. It's another cheap undesirable that will most likely not see any development for itself any time soon.

Any Questions!!!! (Ask me) you'll get a response within 24 hours

Ready, set, ask me anything!
I have a couple questions..
1. Is there any kind of ETA? I'm as patient as the next guy, but it's always nice to know! No worries if you don't have one though : )
2. Is there any proof of the K10 root working on the V10?
(not really a question but)
3. I know it's a very long time off, but in October of this year I will no longer be with Verizon and I'm willing to test anything around that time.

1. Sadly I have no ETA, right now I have an init and a new sepolicy. I'm able to dirtycow the sepolicy but I can't find any way to get the init across without the phone rebooting before it finishes. I need a way to like freeze the init in a way to make it available for transfer. So there's that and the other guy we are working with is gone right now and idk yet when he'll be back and ready.
2. Well, he is helping me out but he had the same issue with the init sadly. So stuck again
3. I have a question for you.. what version of Android are you on currently?
Currently running a V10 from Verizon, Android version is 6.0.
After recent updates (a few months ago) from Verizon, I noticed my call blocking software was no longer working. I had the software set to block any numbers not in my contacts.
I poked around in the phone app settings and the Android settings, all settings allowing me to block callers from mt phone had been removed.
Verizon's "solution" to be able to block up to 5 numbers free for 90 days (then you have to reblock them) simply does not meet my needs. Paying extra for their service to block numbers is just rude to me. I'd go to another carrier first.
Is there any way to get those settings back on my phone so I can block numbers from my phone again?

All those settings to block calls from verizon are a verizon thing, once it's changed it's changed. Verizon's contract with us says they technically own the phone and we are just borrowing it. So my first guess would be no you can't get that software back. I could look, depends on what you were using. My suggestion though would check out an app on the play store to see what you get. Once we get root you can probably find a good software for it.
Do you expect roms to be available including nougat roms if/when root is achieved?

Maybe I'll start a project for one but it's a big maybe, I'm going to try to also push out the updates to be flashed over twrp.

Actually, I've been using contacts+ and dialer+ from the play store on my last several phones and I no longer have to back up my contacts , call log, or texts! And, it has call blocking that does have the block everything not in your contacts. It has made rooting and breaking phones hurt a little less and/or be less of a pain in the @$$. I swear I have nothing to do with them, lol. I'm just a guy who likes to fiddle with this stuff who stumbled on this app purely by trial and error. If I can make one complaint, it's different than other dialers/contacts, and I don't think it's the prettiest app, but once you fiddle with it a while, it gets better. I wish I could skin it though, lol. Sorry for rambling, I just stumbled here and had to comment.

Sorry, I personally can't help. Be advised if you root an Android device now, Netflix won't work.
See: https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/14/netflix-no-longer-available-for-rooted-android-phones/
Not worried a/b Netflix, thanks though

need help here. just bought my V10 refurb unit. they said its H900 at&t unit. its on lollipop with root out of the box so i cannot use any banking app. so i try to diry flash latest H900 firmware via LGUP. phone bootup but i cannot use due to force closed app. so i clean reflash it. now it booting as normal. but i cannot setup any fingerprint as it will force closed. so i came out a solution trying to clear cache and data . phone bootup still same. then suddenly its blank. only black screen with backlit on. so pull out the battery, now phone cannot turn on. only qdloader9008. so its hardbrick. try dismantle mainboard and its turn out im getting verizon vs990 mainboard with at&t firmware in it. now had no idea how to fix it. try those SDCARD using h901 system dumb as i cannot find any vs990 system dumb to work with. no luck, cannot enter download [email protected] fastboot mode. any help will be appreciated.
p/s : now im still not sleeping since yesterday trying to figure it out and my head feel like to exploded.
My parents both have the VS990 and recently their Wi-Fi calling has stopped receiving calls- calls can still be made (outgoing) but they go straight to VM incoming. My Verizon s7e on the same plan works just fine, leading me to rule out Network and Verizon. What is left is LG and Android (since I'm on N and they're still on MM). It seems that it occurred after the recent vzm upgrade from 27a to 28a. Nobody on Reddit responded to my thread, Verizon has been 0 help (they told my parents it was a SIM issue, swapped their SIM, "tested them" without putting the phones on airplane mode and sent them on the way telling them it was fixed..... thanks guys). I can't find any documentation or bug reports of this happening to anyone else- but, I'm not sure how many ppl depend on wireless calling like we do (satellite is our only method of telecom out here- no phone lines run, no dsl, no cell service.. we're in the middle of nowhere). I've tried resetting the Advanced Calling features. I've restarted the phones. I haven't done a factory reset.
A) Anything I've missed?
B) I found an img for 27a on here, is LGUP a feasible means still of downgrading/rolling-back?
Nothing going on
So my v10 wont charge, wont turn on, there's no charging notification light or anything. the only thing that gives me hope is that when I plug it into my laptop, my computer detects it because I can hear the sound. I cant get it into any of the modes, download..recovery..ect. any suggestions?
Hey could you please help me figure out something. I have an LG V10 H901 (purchased from China) its supposedly the T-Mobile version but was manufactured in Korea. Its WIFI and bluetooth weren't working so I tried to update its firmware using LGUP. However, after the update it was hardbricked. I have managed to get to the LG logo using H90021w Unbrick Qfil files. Afterwards I tried to flash stock firmware H90130d_00_0611 using lgup. However, I got a message about partition changes and hardbrick once again. I have also tried KDZ files related to F600L, h90021w and many others. Can you please suggest based on my details:
-Correct QFIL files
-Correct Firmware or KDZ
Phone Details:
IMEI:354017070602111
Model:LGH901BK
Suffix:ATMOOP
Buyer:TMO
Software Verison:H90130D_00
OS Version:N
File Name:H90130d_00_0611.kdz
KDZ File size:1975399272
No Luck

So my Lgv10. Doesn't show that its charging, doesn't turn on, doesn't do anything at all. It does however connect to the computer in the whole qualcomm hs-usb qdloader9008 mode thing. ive been doing the qfil thing because that seems to be the only thing that detects my phone but nothing is working. are there any other options? oh it says its the lgh900. but the motherboard is the vs990. does that make a difference? I have files for both
Been a while since I've touched a LG device but i'll respond to everyone tonight.

I would update to the latest version. and I would factory data reset. I would also say that wifi calling is brutal and something that I wouldn't use all that much personally. any more questions you can ask
