How to root KitKat 4.4.2 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have bought this device from china:
http://www.chinavasion.com/china/wh..._CPU_2GB_RAM_13MP_Rear_Camera_16GB_ROM_Black/
Can you please help me root it.

I have a chinese generic 4.2.2 kitkat under the name foneso or allwinner and I rooted mine by loading the free version of pdanet on my laptop, which then loaded the corresponding files on the tablet when it asked me to connect it via usb (you could use bluetooth too I think) and then with that connection live I used the kingo software which is free and runs on your laptop as well. kingo by itself works for a lot of people but it wouldn't recongnize my device as connected until I had pdanet running. Don't forget to have your tablet in debug mode...

Click to collapse
Z4Root only works on certain devices (although it works on most Android 2.1 phones).
If you have a cheap overseas version of a tablet, you might have issues finding
ways to achieve and keep root access.

[Q] Eken A90 (rooted) showing UNWANTEDLY as ABD

Hi guys, I hope you can help.
I'm tech savvy, but this has been driving me bonkers.
I bought a cheap EKEN A90 (Allwinner A10) from China - I can't remember what version of Android it had, but it was a slow and clunky as hell.
To cut a long story short, I tried flashing it with CM9 and CM10 and managed to brick it, only being able to bring it alive with the lovely and helpful people here using livesuite and a custom firmware A90sun4i_crane_t05a_mma7660_20120614-.img and gapps etc etc....and actually works SO much smoother!
Anyway, BEFORE, when I plugged in the USB, it would show up in My Computer (I'm on Windows XP) as 'CRANE' or something like that and was easy to transfer files between my PC and tablet.
Since the new firmware, when I connect to my PC, it comes up as an ADB device, installs drivers (something like WdfColnINstaller or something) and then says it's a Samsung phone! Which I don't want! I just want it to show up in My Computer like it did before!!!
I used to have Kies installed as I have a Galaxy S2, but have since installed it. (btw my phone comes up as a portable device, which I would love the tablet to do!!)
I've tried loads of things; changing cables, USB debugging mode on and off (there's no MTP option on the tablet btw) uninstalling the ADB thing in PC Device Manager, but nothing has worked and it's driving me bonkers!
I've even looked into changing the tablets Device ID (USB\VID_18D&PID_0002) because apperently that notifies Windows that it's an ADB Instance.
Many thanks

Connecting to an ad-hoc network from my android tablet

I spent like 10 hours trying to find ways to get internet access to my Asus Memo Pad HD 7 (ME173x),
I have a Nokia E-5 which I'm using now temporarily, and I've found that with joikuspot, the wi-fi is ad-hoc(?),
So my tablet won't recognize my phone's hotspot..
I've rooted my tablet, tried reverse tethering through my PC but it didn't recognize my tablet..
Any ideas how to make my tablet connect to the ad-hoc network?
EDIT:
For anyone looking into this problem in the future..
I found out that while my tablet was being recognized as a portable device, it was also registered as an unrecognized device, so I right clicked the unknown device and updated it with the drivers you can find (either ADB or try the official drivers by googling asus memo pad hd 7 drivers).. then the reverse tether tool here worked..
If you're trying to access ad-hoc anyway, there's this guide here that seems to work, and it has a video showing how to do it if you're new to this like me
EDIT: The method above didn't work for me

USB tethering on TAB264

Hi,
I have TAB264 Yarvik. Only thing I need is to connect it to the RasPI and make USB tether. I test it on Arch Linux on my notebook. I can plug my phone with usb tethering allowed and than I am able to connect to the internet.
However, there is no such option on my TAB264. There is original ROM (4.2.2). I have installed some USB tether apps but nothing worked.
Do I need root or even new ROM? Or is it hardware dependent?
Thank you.
P.S. I can see the tablet in ADB if it helps.
