It's normal. All those games are pretty intense for the novathor and cause pretty much any phones I know of to heat up.
Cpu governer will not make a difference unless you have selected the performance gov. This locks the frequency to 1000 ghz and makes it overheat.
Take your cover off the phone.

According to me use noop , smartassv2
thanks me if I helped u

[Post as Reference] Quad Score and CM Settings

Ok guys, let's give everybody a brief sum about our phones performance. We'll post our Quadrant Score and then specify the CM settings, tweaks or scripts we have in order to get such a high (or low) score
I'm pretty sure this will work as a reference to avoid questions like:
Hi bro, I'm a noob here and will like to know which are the best settings for my phone... plzzz help
Click to collapse
And will let us track how better/worse our phones are turning into
I will start with me:
I'm using Jusada's ICS2 + TurboBoost V8.5
CPU Settings:
- Governor SMARTASS
- Min Freq: 480
- Max Freq: 864
All others left unchecked and VM heap size 48m
Quadrant Score 2,094 (once upon a time got to 2,190 but not anymore)
Pls find the Screen Shot attached!
Regards
EDIT: Now I flashed ICS2 Final and made it to 2,180 Check the SS
I don't have screenshot, but I once got to 2082 with these settings:
> Min clock: 122MHz
> Max clock: 800MHz (non-OC kernel)
> Performance governor
> All animations enabled
> Gingercruzt 2.3
Btw, I thought we all agreed that quadrant isn't the most reliable source for device performance?

I get about 2100+ in antutu , just a little lower than the Nexus One
Settings:
-CM7.2 RC0 by J.A.F
-Clock speed 883Mhz
-SlaidMod RAM script
-JIT disabled
-Compcache disabled
-16bit transparency enabled

I´m using following on my ACE:
- Cyanogen Mod 7.1 by Grif_07
- V6 Supercharger Script by ZeppelinRox
- Link2SD
- SD Booster (2048 kbyte cache)
CM settings:

- Dithering is set to on
- JIT is set to off

See the result in the screenshot!!!
I was having FC's with Assets Purge Enabled... Otherwise Everything looks good for me. But each time I have my friend's SGSII on my hands I feel my ACE is getting worse

Even the creator of ICS2 is using 883mhz ... Don't know bro, but I don't think this is true... Everybody has reported stable at 883, some (and just some) has reported stable at 921 ... but cannot multitask that often due to phone overheated and battery drained too fast... I guess that's worthless (even thought it is possible)

i dont have reason to lie!!!
maybe is that because my phone repairs due to wetting. and the CPU is not heated so much... and I have no battery drain... But my friends phone does not work like mine. hi had restart with my settings, and is now working on 883.

Also, I seen people talking about draining battery, ect. I haven't noticed much a difference in life because the CPU time at the max frequency is so little. Using a on-demand style governor means the phone isn't always at max frequency, most of the time my phone is in Deep Sleep and 787MHz, rarely does it need to touch the OC'ed frequencies.
If you don't believe me check for yourself on your own phone. Use CPU spy app from market...

All governors and everything related is explained in this post.
I think smartassv2/noop is a good combo... It has a good battery/performance ratio.
also savagedzen/sio isn't bad....
Please dont post questions in the Development Section...You have the General Section for that...I request the Moderator to move this thread to the general section...Thank you... nd regarding ur question...I use "SmartassV2" without tweaking the I/O scheduler...
For this chipset i like SMartassV2 & deadline (SUPER FAST+STABLE)
But 4 Gaming its nice to hv Lagfree & VR (DEADLY FAST+...NOt SO STABLE , especially if u overclock also they might be heat issues)

errr. i thought i posted this in the general section?? seriously i thought i did..
on the other note. smartassv2 seems to be used by many. i shall give it a try
So i tested out the recommended settings from you guys
XPERIA MINI . ST15 . antutu benchmark scores . over clocked my cpu to 1516 with voltage control.
my current set up interactivex/sio (score 3951)
savagedzen/sio (score 3911)
smartassv2/noop (score 3991)
smartassv2/deadline (score 3953 )
lagfree/vr (score 3953)
not sure whether antutu is best app to test out but yeah.. lol btr than nth i guess
1.5GHz is not the best frequency for the Mini - it causes the CPU to freeze frequently. Even 1.4GHz frequency is not the best. 1,3GHz and interactive governor is the optimum for my Mini - fast, responsive, no lag, no freezing, 2 days of battery life.

seriously watch out with OC that high.
You can easily fry your mainboard/CPU and than it's goodby mini. Better have a mini that work's than having a fried mini...
at least watch the temperature.
just my 2 cents...

hey man thanks. i didnt really know what freq to set it to.. what would you recommend. the guy above ur post said 1.3 is good. agree?
First of all, ask yourself do you REALLY need OC. Or are you just doing it because you can
I personally think the mini is sufficiently fast on it's own?
But if you must OC then install a temperature monitoring app and let it warn you when the phone gets exceedingly hot.
Because if you play a game while OC-ed, the temp might jump real fast real high.
And by the time you figure that, the phone could fry.
I definitely wouldn't go over 1.5GHz. Even that's real high. 1.3GHz seems to be ok though
I run 1.8 with Brazilianwaw & bfq 24/7

btw how do we know that our phones are overheating?? mine is usually around 28-35 on normal usage but when gaming it goes to around 40++ is that ok?
I think 50C would be maximum... Still don't keep it at 50C all the time.
There is no safe stuff.
Overclocking is dangerous in every damn way.
No one wants to brick their phone, they don't play with OC. Besides, performance boost is quite small, pointless to waste the juice.

[Q] SetCpu settings for Xperia S

hey guys,
i recently rooted my xperia s and im now on the KA speed 11.1 rom w/ 5.1 sspeed kernel. I just want to find out what you guys think is the optimal setcpu profile settings for a rooted Xperia S. By optimal i mean (extended batt life w/smooth lagless operations and less cpu heat)
thanks in advance!

I overclocked to 1.89 , scaling is ondemand
Smoothness : very , very smooth
Battery life : the same for me
Cpu heat : Only when playing mc3 for 2 hours

And use AnTuTu cpu master , its more stable :good:
Before you doing something that can make your phone burn it is better for you to search an info about it. And there is a step of doing it not just simply swipe it to maximum clock. That is why the devs always remind us to take our own risk of overclocking. You can read more detail info from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376870
*Sorry for my english*
Overclocking the maximux cpu frequency doesnt mean heat/battery dies
It only increases the maximum level of what the frequency can reach , so if ur just browsing or watching utube or playing 2d games like angry birds , the fone wont run at the maximum overclocked frequency , so no effect will occur , but if u play a heavy game like modern combat 3 and u have overclocked , the cpu frequency will jump to the maximum and will cause heat after a while and more battery usage
Thats what i think
check my thread in the general section
Sent with my Sony Xperia S using a little bit of KA magic.
no necessary to overclock
hey guys...i bought my SXS with android 2.3.7 ....3months ago....bootloader unlocked...rooted...and really...2x 1,5GHz is totally enough for your device...even Shadow Gun runs perfectly smooth without overclocking.......but if you have installed a custom rom...you will get lags e.t.c ....if so...download chainfire 3d from google market....free ofcharge...install the driver and everything should be ok now.
if you want to overclock....i advice you to use cpu tuner...uses a bit memory...and you may choose how many cpu should run....i prefer to select just one cpu " in settings...use dual cpu.....deactivate" ....and then overclock it...you will get a nice performance and a little more battery life.
hope it helped

Hi, i have a question about setCPU. Can it on rooted XPS with Stock ICS kernel (build 6.1.A.2.45) control CPU voltage?
Or it's a limited feature available only for custom kernels? I have a locked bootloader so no custom kernels for me
Thanks (don't want to buy it now a regret it)

No voltage control on any stock kernels for any devices. Only custom kernels offer that.

[Poll] CPU throttle because of overheat!

At first: sorry for just using Google Translate... I have not much time to write everything new!
Problem:
After some time, the ongoing CPU / GPU load overclocked the processor down and the maximum stroke is limited to 820MHz. Under Android 2.3 that was detected with the tool Stability Test, which but now with Android 4.0 makes the Xperia S problems and freezes the display after 2min.
clearly evident in the following games / applications:
- Asphalt 7: Heat - after 10 to 15 minutes
- Mass Effect - Infiltrator - after 10 to 15 minutes
- Shadow Gun - after 10 to 15 minutes
- N64 Emulator (FREE) on TV over HDMI HDMI after about 20 or 25 minutes
- Dungeon Hunter 3 (FREE) - on charger during the third mission
- Real Football (FREE) - after 20 or 30 minutes... Keep the half-time Screen on for 15 minutes should bring the effect faster
- Temple Run Brave - thx @ monivan
Should you it with other games or the best tools that can follow the show cpu speed permanently, please post here. the above StabilityTest works definitely NOT currently until an update from the developer Comes
Here a short example Video in german... if you move Forward to 3:20 you will see the effect clearly after 3:30
ATTENTION! Please only Xperia S users participate in the survey, as the results will be forwarded to the developer and not with "I certainly do not" click just because you did not want to test this.

there is a solution from Bin4ry but it is a bit dangerous and we don't know if it has hardware-side-effects over a Long time...
I attached you a file... it is a config where the thermal throttling Trigger values are located at... it just sets the throttle value from 55 degrees to 70 degrees (CPU data sheet says Maximum temp is 80 degrees so it's inside his Limit) and the emergency shutdown from 70 degrees to 75 degrees....
there is also another emergency shutdown value for battery temp at 60 degrees because at more then 70 the battery may explode so: DON'T touch this values!!!
just unzip it and overwrite the existing one in /System/etc/
then reboot...
after that it will not throttle again but if you are charging and playing for a while (after 45 or 60 minutes) the phone get's damned hot!!!
so Bin4ry and I think, that the Xperia S has a massively failed Hardware design with this old CPU and bad heat Management!!!
EDIT: hmm who is the one without any Problems? a Statement what was tested would be nice you are the first one (out of 15 People voted in both Forums together) who has no problems
I'm on stock rom. Yesterday I played Virtua Tennis for 3 hours, and last night played Virtua Tennis with a friend, phone slightly heated, but not over heated also never had any problem !!! but my Arc is over heating
hmm ok but you should try with games listed above... the Problem is, that other games could have limited fps to save Hardware power... that's the reason why i listed These games
Maybe the best solution is to underclock the phone to 1-1,2 Ghz, so that it won't get this hot when playing games... I think a custom kernel is necessary for that but my BL is locked.... Is there anybody who can try this out and report?
lol...
i payed 600 EUROS for a phone with 1,5GHz dualcore CPU! i will NOT underclock it to make it run more stable
the best solution is to proove that the Xperia S has a Hardware issue that can't be fixed and forece sony to bring you an Exchange device with the same Price value like you have paid or you get your money back...

no this is a HARDWARE Problem... so there are two possibilities... the device clocks down much tooo early and games start to lag (like on stock FW) or it throttles just at higher temps (some custom roms with other throttle values) but then the Xperia becomes extremely hot!

I was planning to get XS, playing games is my priority, but when i read this thread im having second thoughts now

NFSMW (30 ~ 40)
N64oid (30-40)
100floor (Jesus IS A 2D game)
Im on full stock .55
I think we need to talk with sony about the minimun speed after overheating from 820 mhz to 1ghz

[Q] JB+Dorimanx 8.40/Stweaks

Hi, I've got this strange problem..I've set the "min frequency" to 200Mhz and the "max normal frequency" to 900 Mhz.So the device is supposed to operate in this range; For 30 minutes of using opera, facebook, some chat programs, email, the phone uses only 1000Mhz.
When I set back the "max norm. freq." to 1Ghz and the "max oc freq." to 1Ghz, the phone behaves as expected: it uses all frequency range, mostly 200Mhz.
I'm not much of a tweaker, but being stuck on 1000Mhz, when the max allowed is 900Mhz doesn't seem right to me...Now, am I missing something?Hope you can direct me Thanks
Ok so when you set it to 900 MHz, do you first set max_oc_freq to its lowest? Otherwise, setting max normal freq to 900 with max oc freq to say 1200 will cause issues. I doubt it's an issue with the kernel /governor, but how you're setting it up.

Hi fellas...
I'm having some difficulty trying to find a way to include the oc frequencies into an "ondemand"-like governor. Seems only the performance governor actually enables the oc frequency but then completely fixed.
Is this a limitation that frequencies over 1000 MHz are only available as static frequencies under the performance governor?
"Max normal frequency" in STweaks seems to indicate this.
Also is there any good way to "prime"-test the phone or is freezing the phone the only available indication of instability?
Appreciate the input... /Mike (Big thanks to dorimanx for this feature packed kernel)
