[Q] PC doesn't detect Z2 flash mode - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I "accidently" wiped my entire phone (dalvik, system, cache, data, internal) in twrp recovery because i was stuck in a bootloop and installed envi-rom 0.2B and the phone was able to boot normally and get the phone working again.
After getting my phone to turn on and working again i wasn't able to use flashtool and it looks like this:
05/041/2014 14:41:04 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging on

05/042/2014 14:42:11 - INFO - Flash canceled
LED blinks red, green, then turns off and flashtool doesn't detect it all.
Afterwards i need to use the power button and volume up key to turn off the phone and reboot.
I also tried via sony pc companion and the phone update itself to update and get 17.1.2.A.0.314 but that didn't work either.
Occasionally flashtool gets stuck on installftkit:
05/010/2014 14:10:37 - INFO - Checking root access

05/010/2014 14:10:44 - INFO - Running installftkit as root thru sysrun
So i can't update by flashing, pc companion, or via phone. It would also work if anyone knows how i can update without flashing.
-Sorry for long post, just wanted to provide some background info.

Im having a similar issue!
Except i cant even boot up my phone, it shows sony logo, then goes to the boot animation sound but the screen is black.
I need to get my phone into flashmode for pcompanion to repair it, but when i try to, the led flashed red, green and off, very quickly.

Please can someone help? I can't use my new phone

According to the pc companion it should stay green and also it doesn't notice the phone connected at all :/

Yeah pressed those buttons and tried the options i found on other threads (re-installing drivers, using different pc, etc.) still nothing. I don't have the original wire that came with the phone but i doubt that has an impact.

It's the same with me

Make sure usb debugging mode is on for a start.
Pick the firmware you want to flash and let it prepear.
When it comes up saying please connect your phone. Make sure your phone is off. While plugging the USB into the phone hold down the vol down button. It will then connect and proceed to flash the firmware

Yeah from there and from the flashtool set already and it didn't work either time.

Has anyone found a fix to this yet?
I still can't flash my phone or update the software.

Dude if your rooting do it on the new root tool I did it and now I'm rooted

That's not the issue, I'm already on rooted unlocked bootloader. My problem is I can't update through phone, pc, or flashtool.
If it means anything the noise canceling isn't working anymore either so I think it might be that those original system files are gone. (for the noise canceling, flashing, and maybe other stock functions I haven't noticed)
Hope that helps anyone get an idea of the situation.

Any fix about this? I also have the same issue

I turned off phone, started s1tool and clicked on "Identify", held back button and connected USB on the phone and nothing happened.
I really don't know what is problem.
Do I have to flash phone with flashtool to enable flashboot mode?
Do I have to install CWM to to enable flashboot mode?
What should I do to enable flashboot mode?
Nothing really, once the phone is in flashmode it doesn't matter what is or is not installed, and flashmode is a feature of the hardware, it's not software dependent.

You don't have to hold it for that long, if your phone is turned off, you press the back-button and then connect your usb-cable it should enter flashmode in a matter of seconds, and the led would show green. I'm honestly not sure what is going wrong.
Hi I have a very similar problem. I started s1tool and clicked identify. I turned off my phone, held the back button and connected my phone to my laptop. However, nothing happened. furthermore, my laptop will hang and i have to restart it all over. can anyone tell me how is this so?

Try another version of S1Tool, and just start the application with the phone disconnected. Then click on "Identify", it'll tell you to turn off the phone and to connect it. Make sure the phone is off and you can connect the USB cable to the computer, just not to the phone. Now hold the back button, (the one with the arrow above it). While holding, connect the USB cable and don't release yet.
If it still fails after this, I'd say try it on another computer.
Found out how!
I've had the same problem, and after I exit the software, Windows told me to run it as Administrator. It worked!
I guess you have to right-click the s1flashtool, then press "Run as Administrator", then it can detect your phone.
Cheers!

[Q] [SOLVED] problems getting alt. baseband on ray with cm9.1

hey guys,
slowly i'm getting a little bit desperate actually i'm not sure, if my problem at the moment is flashtool or cyanogenmod 9.1 which brought ics on my phone or whatever. hope you can help me
i have an xperia ray and was on stock gingerbread 4.0.2.A.0.69 with baseband 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66. but as the stock xperia included kraken facebook stuff, i finally wanted to get rid of it, so stock ics was no option. then i heard of cyanogenmod, which my friend had installed on his samsung galaxy s, and it worked perfectly there out of the box, so i wanted cm as well...
so on friday i installed cm9.1 stable from download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=urushi following this guide: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Ray:_Full_Update_Guide
everything worked fine except of no phone and mobile data connection. i researched, and it seems the xperia ray wants baseband 72 to work properly. so i installed latest flashtool 0.9.3.0, installed the proper drivers with flashtool-drivers.exe fomr flashtool folder "drivers" and tried. the second try i finally managed to get the ray's green light signaling flashmode, but flashtool disconnected in between, and on the ray one could see an image that looked like a glass with a green liquid in it... well, as flashtool had closed the connection, i waited a little bit and - as nothing happened - unplugged the usb cable and tried to reboot the ray fearing that i had bricked it. actually i didn't, the ray booted up, _and_ i had phone and mobile data connection! so i thought everything was fine even as my phone info still says "Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66". first i thought "anyways, everything works fine".
and so it seemed, but today as i was visting my parents, where i normally have a fine phone and mobile data connection, there was nearly nothing, and so i thought, i have to get bb72! but i don't get the ray into flashmode anymore
i read tons of guides, tried several variations of plugging and unplugging points of time... no way... somehow i also fear that my problem might be that flashtool wants the phone to have usb debugging and msc mode on, which i did, and when i start flashtool with the phone plugged in it says "Device connected with USB debugging on", but after the unplugging, shutting down the phone and connecting it again with the back-button pushed and holding it says "Device connected with USB debugging off" and "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode". maybe that's because i don't get the device into "green light flashmode" or maybe (as i had read about meanwhile) because with ics msc isn't (fully) supported anymore?
so, can you please help me? any suggestions how i can get that baseband flashed on my phone? should i try it with the linux version of flashtool, or are there still any possibilities on windows (xp sp3)?
thx a lot, and by the way: phantastic work, that all you developing guys and helpers do for us!
my current system:
Phone: Xperia Ray (Urushi)

EDIT: hey again... i finally managed to get into the green light flashmode somehow, but flashtool still says:
09/006/2012 18:06:55 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
09/006/2012 18:06:55 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
09/007/2012 18:07:08 - INFO - Device disconnected
so i looked around, if there is maybe any other way to get that baseband flashed on the system, and i found a thread called "[Q] Flashing .ftf file without flashtool?" that states, it was possible with fastboot: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562110
so i'd like to try that. unfortunately that thread got stuck exactly at the point where it was about getting the right commands to flash certain files - e.g. for a baseband
what i did so far is: i renamed the baseband-ftf to zip and unzipped the zip. the following files are included:
adsp.sin
amss.sin
amss_fs_urushi.sin
apps_log.sin
fota0.sin
fota1.sin
loader.sin
plus a folder called META-INF, but i guess that one isn't needed.
to flash the boot.img, when installing cm9.1 the cm-guide posts that command:
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
the guy from the thread "[Q] Flashing .ftf file without flashtool?" posts those examples:
fastboot flash boot kernel.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
so, what are the commands to flash those "sins"? and do i have to use that "-i 0xfce" part, or is "fastboot flash" enough?
hope, someone can help me with that
thx a lot again!

Hi,
How are you trying to put your device in flashmode? If you do exactly what flashtool says, you wont get it.
You have to turn off your device, select flashmode in flashtool, press and hold Volume Down Key and then connect the phone to your PC.
The Back Key is not functioning for our Xperia, but Volume Down yes!

hi,
hm, i'll give it a try, but all the guides i found concerning the ray explicitly wrote about the back/return button like e.g. this one here talk.sonymobile.com/thread/24433
and as i wrote in my original post and in my edit i managed to get into green light mode with back/return button, but flashtool "just" didn't recognise that the ray anyways - despite it being connected with usb debugging and msc mode on - which is because of a problem concerning ics and msc mode i fear...
but i'll try it with volume down anyways. there can't happen more than before
is there anybody out there who possibly might help me with the fastboot solution?

Also i dont know if it happens on the newer flashtool version but if you leave it connected to flashmode for too long it automatically breaks the connection. you should always drag'n'drop the ftf into flashtool and set alll that up and only enter flashmode when it tells you too after its all ready to go.

hope, i won't have to flash around too often but thx for the tip
what i also found out accidentally yesterday, is the fact that msc actually works properly on ics/cm9.1, if you explicitly tell your device to connect as mass storage.
before the upgrade to ics i simply plugged the ray into the pc or mac, and the micro sdcard showed up like an additional volume. it didn't anymore after the upgrade. the device said something like "usb connected" in the info bar, but nothing more happened.
yesterday i checked that message in the info bar more accurately, even tapped on it, and tadaaa, the option was shown to "turn on usb storage": jayceooi.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/SGS2-ICS-USB-Mass-Storage.jpg
so easy and so far away simultaneously; unbelievable. anyways, i have "real" msc now again

[Q] Please help my Xperia Ray wont boot. Flashing gone wrong. What to do?

Hello all.
Please help me. I've committed a grave mistake. I bought my Xperia Ray about 2 months ago(It stopped showing up in retail stores, bought it online for a good price from a reputed online store, brand new.) After loads of thinking and looking at the pros and cons, and gaining some basic knowledge, I decided to root it today. I was following this guide: [Link] I'm new so XDA wont let me put it. Google Root Your Xperia Phone Without Voiding Warranty. Click the first link. Site is mytechencounters.wordpress.com.
Everything was going well. Sort of. Flashtool would show an error while trying to flash. I installed the drivers from the flashtool drivers folder, connected my phone in flash mode and started flashing. Then I realized that wipe data, wipe cache and wipe app log were checked. So I disconnected my phone. It was about 40-60 % done. Now it is not switching on. When I hold the power button, it gives that short vibration like it's supposed to before switching on, but it doesn't switch on. When I connect it, flashtool shows phone connected then disconnected again and again in its log. I hope I haven't bricked my phone. Please help me. Stock ROM 2.3.4. Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.62
Please help me. My dad is away for a few days. If he returns and finds out, I'm dead! :crying:
Thanks in advance.
can you still get in to flashmode? take out the battery, wait for about 30 seconds and reconnect in flashmode (connect usb to pc first, the connect phone to usb while holding volume down) the LED light should turn green if you're in flashmode.
If you can enter flashmode, you can easily flash back the stock rom and kernel and have your phone running again.

It does seem to get into flash mode. How do I make it return to stock?
****. Flash mode seems messed up. I looked around the web, and found out that I can go back to stock using PC Companion. I tried that but neither that nor anything else will work because the phone disconnnects and reconnects again and agian and again on its own. I tried other USB ports too but same problem. Oh God I'm doomed I've bricked my phone just after 2 months! :crying: :crying: :crying:

Thanks I'll try that out. The guy says that I have to uninstall PC Companion and Sony drivers before installing SEUS. Necessary? Because installing them was a pain. Also, SEUS will install the latest ROM. Does that mean ICS? I really don't want ICS right now. Stock 2.3.4 with Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.62 is what I need.

I don't bricked (yet) my ray, so i don't know. I think you must uninstall them, to get new drivers working. If SEUS (or SUS) flashed new rom and is ICS, then you can allways flash GB ftf any time you want via flashtool.

I think this won't work, because it's necessary to flash after doing an ota update on unlocked bootloader...
@OP have you installed all drivers from flashtool -> drivers? Try it on another PC and connect the phone only after there is the popup to connect. Turn phone off, hold volume down and while holding it plug the usb, it will start flashing automaticly
If this won't work, bring it to a local shop or send it to sony and you can hope they will repair your software :good:

@OP have you installed all drivers from flashtool -> drivers? Try it on another PC and connect the phone only after there is the popup to connect. Turn phone off, hold volume down and while holding it plug the usb, it will start flashing automaticly
If this won't work, bring it to a local shop or send it to sony and you can hope they will repair your software :good:

I guess I have to go to the service center after all. Let's give this one last shot though.
If you've followed this thread from the beginning, you know my phone wasn't booting. So, I installed SEUS and clicked update while my phone was connected. SEUS downloaded and installed the latest official ICS ROM. My phone started and was working alright(I anticipated all the lag and instability, no surprises there). Now, I tried to downgrade back to GB, specifically to the .42 build. My phone came with .62 out of the box. .42 since I was going to root, then do an OTA update to .62. There. A happy, rooted GB phone. Now, I have everything needed to flash it. Tried flashing it to GB .42 but alas. here is my log:

Please. I'd rather not go to the Service Center. They'd ask questions and make me feel uncomfortable. My dad is not in station. Mom can't take me out she's not well. I'd rather try to fix all this mess myself. Help me.

According to the log it looks like you have connected phone before selecting the ftf, right? Select the ftf first and only after the popup appears, now hold volume up and while holding volume up connect phone with usb to pc!
Some users had problems, because they connected their phones too early...

[Q] [x10i] No fastboot/flash modes; main buttons stop working

Hello, I urgently need help with an old x10i (used in the UK) that I have come across. Issues:
Old OS: It has Android 2.1. I want to update to the latest, fully functional JB/GB rom.
Flaky buttons: The three physical buttons at the bottom stop working after about two minutes. This is a known issue and I have tried everything to fix it short of disassembling the device.
No Fastboot or Flash modes: No matter what I do, I cannot get into Fastboot/Flash modes. I have the latest versions of Flashtool, s1tool and GG drivers installed on my WS 2008 R2 PC, but no luck. Holding the Back/VolDn button when plugging in the USB cord just goes directly to the battery charging icon (with *yellow* LED) after showing the "Sony Ericsson" text (no logo) for 8-10 seconds. Is there any indication to the user that the phone is in fastboot/flash mode?
Missing camera button: :'(
I may not have provided enough information, but please ask! All assistance is appreciated.
Please help. I am totally stuck, gentlemen! I am making one minor correction; the LED color mentioned in #3 above is yellow, not green. Here's the Flashtool log:

Note that it connected in Flash mode a couple of times and then it immediately disconnected. I have not been able to successfully connect in Flash mode since.
Hmm... I use an old version of flashtool. Version 8.0.6 from memory it has an update patch that went with this release.
The reason is the latest version of flashtool has forgotten all about the X10i.. don't get me wrong, that latest version still works with the X10i for flashing things, it just doesn't have all the old extras like xRecovery/CWM recovery downloads and etc.
To get a Sony core GB v2.3.3 build you can download SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and just do a complete phone upgrade/install.
Have you unlocked the bootloader on the X10i yet? It's fine to do this on an X10i as there is nothing to lose, unlike some of the 2013 models.
Then use flashtool to root the X10i (and with an old version of flashtool) download xRecovery or CWM recovery and then start your ROM/Kernel of choice installs.

Thank you for your reply! I have already tried upgrading to v2.3.3 using PC Companion. It downloads the update then asks me to a) turn off the phone, b) disconnect the cable, and c) connect the cable with the back button pressed. When I do that, nothing happens; the phone shows the 'Sony Ericsson' text for a few seconds then shows the charging icon (with the yellow LED).
Do you think I should try with SEUS instead of PC Companion?
I also strongly believe there's something physically wrong with my phone. Remember the "buttons stop working 2 minutes after boot" issue? I see that issue even when the phone is off, where pressing any button won't illuminate the screen and show the charging icon! Has anyone else seen this? Is it an easy fix?
Maybe the two issues are related. Thanks again!
EDIT: So I tried with SEUS, and no go. I am stuck on the screen where it asks me to connect the turned-off phone with the Back button pressed -- the phone doesn't want to enter Flash mode, methinks. :'(
If your BACK button doesn't work ( you said so), no worth of pressing him to get into flash mode. Don't press volume button either, because there no fastboot mode for X10. I don't know is there another method to get flash mode.

No, the back button works, but only for a short while (~2 minutes) after booting the phone. After that, none of the home row buttons work. E.g., on starting the phone when I open the app drawer and press the back button, it will take me to back to the home screen. If I keep doing that for a short while, the buttons will simply stop working and I will be stuck in the app drawer, until I switch off the phone. A quick Google search shows that I am not alone. I have tried most of the (simple) suggestions in those threads and they don't work for me.
Thanks for your reply, Dzufa.
Maybe your Back button don't work when your phone is off, and that would be main reason why your phone can't go into flash mode.

You're going to have to fix the physical phone first before you can install/upgrade firmware.
If you don't you're just going to have problem after problem.
For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode

Have you tried holding volume + and power button, you should see one white flash keep holding and you should see three more flashes. If that worked you may be able to get into flash mode. (copied from another thread)

that's a start, try different ways. Like holding volume+ power untill 3 white flashes, then plug in to the usb. Or the other way around. It should work but you (maybe) have to try a lot of times.

your tablet should get and stay in flash mode / fastboot, then you can flash the original firmware through flashtool. I don't think TWRP will ever startup...
