after installing the version 2 of kitkat (deodexed) on my lg e970 (using cwm) i get the message "unfortunately home has stopped". i tried reinstalling but same thing happened. please help.
U need to use Philz Recovery. I am surprised u where even able to flash it with cwm. It shouldn't even work. But regardless. Philz recovery is the only one working to flash the Stock KitKat Roms.

Version 2 can be installed with any kitkat capable recovery.
thank you for the help. installed philz recovery and it worked. one more question, which is better the version 1 or 2? i installed version 1 and it changed my device model into F180L. thanks in advance
That changed mine to the same model number but yeah KitKat stock should be installed with philz recovery only. Glad it worked for u.

is there a custom kernel that can be flashed using this rom? a kernel that will overclock the GPU and better battery performance? thank you guys.

U get more qslide apps but less stable at times and no notification light YouTube often won't play right no eco mode most of the time. Also has it an SD card issues when plugged in to laptop it won't charge or stops charging and only a reboot of the phone will solve it. Because even on wall charger it won't most of the time not response. I use the first the paulicat version as daily driver and have non issues.

- thank you for answering dante501. im sorry im only new to rooting and flashing stuff. i read that to install the paulicat version is: 1. flash the ROM zip 2. flash supersu 3. Then reboot to bootloader and "fastboot flash boot boot.img". i don't quite understand the third step. im sorry if i sound stupid.
If u use the kitkat from the first link the paulicat one. Then all u have to do is download the full e970 ROM flash it via Philz recovery and ur good to go. If u flash the Canadian one then u have to separate download the SD fix and NFC fix and such. The e970 has it all already backed in. So best is to just download the full e970 version and flash via Philz recovery.
Paulicat version.

Dear reader,
I've currently been using Cyanomod for 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and everything (which took a little while )
Everything is running perfectly fine, but i would like to update my phone to android 4.0+ (whatever the lastest compatible version might be)
How should i go about this?
Do i basically uninstall everything and start from scratch or is there an easy method to quickly update my phone to android 4.
Kind Regards and Thank you for your time!
I believe the answer us first to backup your apps with titanium backup if you need them. Then go to recovery and backup your current Rom. (always be sure to do this). from recovery wipe factory reset and dalvik cache. Then install your new Rom from zip.
You cannot install an android 4.0 + over another version. Always backup and wipe.

Do i need to re-root my phone when i install a new Rom? Or should i just install it through recovery?
Rom's are pre rooted (expect stock, stock BASED roms ARE pre-rooted), once you've installed the rom through cwm, it will be rooted and ready.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can easily flash a custom kernel (Based on ics, so it'll be compatible with ics rom) And boot into recovery, and flash a custom rom based on ics.
One last question, since i'm having trouble finding compatible roms.
Which one would any of you, recommend for me to use ?
I have a ST18i and i'd like the lastest compatible rom.
Thanks so much for the fast reponses and ofcourse the help.
Kind Regards,
Since you're using CyanogenMod 7 I would recommend you to use CyanogenMod 9.1 i.e. FXP 138 is the best in my experience.

If your finding trouble with compatible roms are you saying your getting bootloops when trying them?, because a different Android Version requires a different kernel, So if you haven't or forget to flash the kernel recommended or provided then that would possibly be where your compatibility issues lye as you will get bootloops if you don't and you are changing version. As Mikii suggested earlier.

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). I'll have to figure out how to flash kernels again. Gonna check around the forums to see if i can find a suitable thread.
Thanks so much

The fastest way to flash a kernel is to use the program called flashtool, click on the lightening bolt, select Fastboot mode, then select kernel to flash find the kernel you want to flash and it should be done within literally 2 seconds. once Flashtool gives you the all clear, disconnect your phone from usb, restart phone, and there you go, the old kernel will be overwritten, and so will that kernel's cwm version, with the one from the new kernel.
Try FXP138

To install cm10 you need root access, go check cfroot by chain fire. Gapps is basically your Google now etc. With a custom recovery, just flash the cm10 and Gapps and you'll be good to go.
Stock kernel is subjective with very little difference. All kernels work for me so it's not so much of an issue deciding which is better.
The best rom is the one you try for yourself. Rom comparisons are not allowed on xda
Latest stock will be depending on whether you want android version 4. 1.1 or 4.0.4
Wrong section btw, should be posted in the q&a

You can safely ignore that error.
CWM in the apps drawer is the UI interface of the CWM recovery (accessed by pressing the Vol Up+Home+Power when booting up). CWM recovery works without a hitch.

All options are there when you boot into recovery, it is just the app that is incompatible, meaning a couple of the options won't work directly from the app....you need to boot into recovery to do those things.....don't worry, it's all there.
I personally prefer the older recovery as it doesn't use the blob method of backing up. And I'm used to the old way!
Just wanna let you guys know! A couple of people tried it and they said it works.

Flashed this last night as well and didn't even notice whether the camera app was missing as I rarely use it on a tablet. I have since flashed today's nightly and the camera app is there.
Regarding the transparent notification/nav bars, it is some unknown performance thing specific to this tab.
Anyone else notice the settings are now non-tablet-optimized? They stretch across the whole screen like on a 7" tab or phone. Feels kinda weird... only glaring thing I see out of place.
I tried a tweak to get transparent bars and is true what Google said, you can see the difference in performance, it gets worse. What I don't get is that I tried it in a i9300 too (Temasek) and it works awesome. Hope we'll see a big update for Manta when the next

Exactly opposite for me. Could not get it to flash with TWRP 2.6.3.1 but installed CWM touch 6.0.4.3 and it installed just fine. By the way, does your twrp show 2.6.3.0 when you are booted into recovery even though you downloaded and flashed the 2.6.3.1 binary?

Not sure, out and about right now, I'll take a peek when I get back home.
I flashed TWRP with Flashify. Tried flashing CM11 using CWM Touch and when it failed it wouldn't boot. So I re-flashed CM10.2, booted, DL'd and flashed latest TWRP with Flashify, then CM11 flashed fine. Didn't take note of any version aberrations.

Normally to stop this i turn it off and back on again and it works ok but then 2hrs later it starts again.
My problem is i have tried installing Resurrection remix rom again as they have a new one and it keeps saying there's no data if i try to flash any s3 rom again no data how do i fix this?? I tried re-rooting it with odin and came back same result so then i have to go back to the s5 sensation so i have a working phone im stuck i dont know what to do..
i install a rom like this i wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache partition then wipe dalvik cache then install.
All advice help is welcome and appreciated
If i try and install other roms i either get status 7 or no context so had to go back to S5 sensation 7 just so i could use my phone... urgh

so I got this galaxy s5 (free) to replace the S4 I had.. I'm on AT&T and the S5 is a T-Mobile device.. I unlocked and am currently using on AT&T without any issues.. I tried Cyanogenmod 12 on it.. had way too many Bluetooth music issues.. so I switched back to a rooted t-mobile stock.. which is terrible.. bluetooth music works great but everything is is painfully slow.. so I want to find a good fast custom rom (that also has proper bluetooth music support).. With so many device versions and so many custom roms I'm just a bit perplexed.. I found some that are debloated stock roms which seem like that would be good. but I'm just a bit confused on what parts I need to have as "t-mobile g900t" and which parts I don't have to have that way? so yeah this is a bit of a newbie question (even though I have run 4 or 5 custom roms in the past (original galaxy s and my s4 both had custom roms). .but those were always at&t devices on at&t network.. so was an easier choice..
at any rate.. looking for some tips on how to best find the right rom.. Would love to do this today/tomorrow.. avoid messing with the phone during the work week..
Thanks in advance!!
Gary
Try the latest stock ROM for the phone. Many of us were having issues with lag with prior 5.1.1 ROMS. The latest ROM has fixed all these issues. Very snappy.
i feel like i remember seeing bluetooth/audio fixes & updates in the CM13 nightly changelogs, you also didnt specify which CM 12 you installed... the last 12.1 snapshot from october or the last nightly from december?
You can run whatever rom you want. If it works with KLTE it works on your phone. Check the S5 unified development. Cyanogen has always been crap on this phone, probably always will be. Try an AOSP based one like Tesla or TipsyOS (probably won't find them on this site, they post all of their roms on their Google+ page)
Unfortunately the only Marshmallow available for this phone so far is CM-13 based so it's also crap and full of bugs...
To be honest, no ROM you find will be perfect. The most stable thing I've found is to just use a rooted stock ROM and debloat the hell out of it then run Google Now launcher or Nova and forget that you have a Samsung device for a while, until the next OTA comes out and you have to do the process over again.

much improved deep sleep battery means crap & full of bugs? i'm over a week behind on nightlies & there arent that many bugs... http://www.cmxlog.com/13/klte/ things are improving all the time, only CM 12.1 is stuck... but the last december nightly isnt buggy either
Sort of forgot about this thread. first Thanks for the replies.. So I have been using CM13 since I posted this.. and this has great for speed.. but BlueTooth continues to suck.. no matter what bluetooth device I use with this Rom it skips and stutters. I've finally had enough.. it's been quite a long time with this issue so time for me to switch.. I will try one of the rooted stock roms and debloat it with one of those tools.. thanks again everyone!

Go to the international s5 site look at Tamirda's phoenix rom . It's 6.0.1 mm very snappy very few bugs. Very moddable. Just load a stock mm rom from here first than so you have the proper bootloader and modem. After installing you feel like you got a mini s7. Good good.

Question.. I currently have CM13 loaded in this phone.. so do I still need to do the "Just load a stock mm rom" first? I assumed I already had the proper bootloader and modem..
thanks!

If you have the mm bootloader and modem installed just wipe and flash. But I believe cm 13 could be ran on the lp bootloader. I odined the stock tar first that way you know all the partitions are proper. Than Odin Twrp 3 0.0 . Make sure you back up your data from internal storage because when you Odin factory package it wipes phone storage. I learned this the hard way lost a bunch of pictures lol anyway I found this to be the best way. Hoping this helps....

1. is there a way to tell which bootloader I have?
2. I'm running teamwin.. I assume that's fine for flashing Phoenix but does one really need Odin?
3. I had a rooted stock image before I installed CM13.. (the stock image was so dang slow.. forget which.)
thanks again!

Get any phone info app and check and see if your bootloader ends in pe1 if it don't you don't have mm bootloader. Teamwin is twrp just make sure it's version 3.0.0 that version seems to do best with the phoenix rom.

thanks for sticking with me on the all the newbie questions.. bootloader version reported as G900TUV1FOG6.. later in the list it shows Latest Firmware: G900TUVUGPE1/G900TTMBGPE1/G900TUVU1GPE1.. so at first I was thinking I was ok.. but that second entry had me wondering.. (dang.. just noticed this was never submitted (from 6/28).. oh well)..
ok.. So I assumed I'm good to go.. installed the latest TWRP (3.0.2).. wiped the data area and tried to flash Phoenix.. It starts installing Aroma.. and within a couple of seconds the phone reboots back into TWRP.. did this a few times.. rebooting into the OS gets me a new Cyanagenomod not Phoenix.. figure I must be missing a step somewhere (or have something that is preventing Phoenix from installing).. thoughts?
thanks again!!

I think you still don't have the correct bootloader . The firmware is mm because your using CM13. The easiest way to get it done for sure is to odin the official MM firmware. Than install Twrp 3.0.0 flash superuser to have root . Reboot in recovery and flash phoenix rom v12.0 than the 12.6 update. This may take extra time this way but all the partitions will be correct. Or odin bootloader in BL slot and modem in cp slot . Don't set for auto reboot pull battery back into download mode Odin Twrp pull battery. Reboot into recovery than flash superuser. Than flash phoenix. Good luck

OK.. you may be right.. I downgraded TWRP to 3.0.0 and the install started working fine.. but now the reboot into Phoenix has been going for about 35 mins.. I know it can take some time but that seems extreme.. will wait a bit longer and if it doesn't work I'll try the steps you listed above..
thanks again

Gary look in this general section for the post that instructs you how to install factory mm. Follow the guide. Google to see how to install factory tar files using Lunix . I'm guessing my instructional writing skills leave something to be desired lol . Once you have the factory mm up and running install Twrp flash superuser reboot. Than reboot into recovery flash phoenix rom. Good good
