[Q] Accessing Phone With Broken Screen - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which I unceremoniously dropped from my motorbike while traveling on a busy road. Remarkably, but for the screen, the phone is still working. It still rings when called, I hear the notification sound for SMS's and emails and it appears as a removable drive when I plug it into my computer, but unfortunately I can't read the texts or see who's called. I'm waiting for a new phone to be delivered so don't want to bother repairing this one but would like to still be able to use it while connected to a computer, or at the very least see who's been trying to call and message. I can only assume I must have had USB Debugging disabled at the time the phone was dropped. I'm currently trying to workout if there is a way to flash a ROM that will enable USB Debugging and have seen that ODEN would be capable of flashing but I'm not sure if I can enable Debugging that way, or if it will destroy the information I'm seeking in the process.
I have also read you can get USB->HDMI cables for the S3 and then potentially provide input through a USB mouse but I don't want to have to buy such hardware just to enable the option. I also can't find anyone else with an S3 that would be willing to let me put my board in there phone to enable the option. I've been working on this for two days now and can't work out what to do. I really would appreciate it if someone knows a way I can resolve this.
Thanks.

USB wont connect to computer

So I soft bricked my phone last night, the "[TUTORIAL][ROM] How to fix your phone and apply the update" helped me get everything back to normal. But now when I go to connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable it doesn't wanna connect. It charges the phone, but there's no "USB connected" notification on the phone OR the computer. I've tried putting the phone in USB debugging mode which gets me a "USB connected" notification on the phone, but nothing on the computer, and I can't access any files. I've tried using different USB ports on the computer and still nothing. Any ideas?
Edit: Neeeeevvermind! I should just stop posting questions because I seem to find the answer right after!
What was the answer?
same thing happened to me (sort of) im fully stock not rooted, and for some reason the usb wouldnt connect to computer only charged never game me option to mount sd card. i tried everything, dl'ing drivers from samsung and tmo, nothing worked, spent 2 hours going over the exact same steps between tmo and samsung tech support, **** is busted bro, the more and more i read about problems with the galaxy s the more i feel pissed. just call tmo and tell them you have tried everything from dl'ing drivers to resetting phone and nothing works. i guarantee they will send you a replacement like they did for me. the best part of our phones is the storage (internal, and sd card) w/out access to those the phone is as good as a motorola razor (useless)
Well I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it, or it actually wasn't there, But I put the phone in USB debugging mode and connected it to the computer. Usually I can access files just by plugging it in, but I had to select "Mount" for the computer to recognize it. Pretty obvious solution I know!
@erhan82
That is annoying that you had stock everything and it still didn't work. Usually the solution is really simple though, like a soft reset or something.
I just hate when people complain about the Vibrant having problems when they modify a bunch of stuff. The manufacturers didn't intend for us to root and hack our devices, (as much as we would have liked them to) so when something goes wrong, you can't really blame Samsung or T-Mobile. Well...you can, but when you modify stuff it's usually your fault. And there is definitely exceptions!!! I'm just saying... And Samsung is really slow with rolling out updates, which is very annoying! Anyway.
@Xianku i tried soft reset (i tried that before i even called tech support), i tried everything. And knowing what a pain in the ass it is calling tech support (between waiting to speak to sum1, and having them ask me to do steps i've already done). To be honest i havent seen any crazy development for the vibrant yet. At least not on the level of g1 development. But in all fairness samsung hasnt released kernels yet so once they are here then i'll root.

Revive from the dead

Hi all. I have the SGH-i777 S2. It took a hit direct onto the concrete. The screen is cracked, but it appears that the bottom keys are lighting up when I press the power button. It's been rooted with CyanogenMod 9. I never could get DropBear SSH server to work right. At this point, I've tried installing the full Samsung USB drivers direct from Samsung's site (the one that Windows is the only option) as well as Kies from Samsung and others.
What I'd like to know is, since I can't see the phone's menu settings to turn on USB debugging and, thus, pull contacts, notes and other items off of it, I need to know what you guys would do from this point. There are some contacts and information within Notes that are critical to me so I don't mind buying another phone to cannibalize the hardware if need be. I was told the digitizer is toast. I've already bought the AT&T S4 Active and have been using that for the past couple of weeks so that I can use something in the interim as portable internet is critical for my job.
Any/all feedback is more than welcome.
Unless your are very good with this type of mechanical/electrical work, I would suggest you send it to a good shop for repair. From what I've read on the forums here, there may be a couple of good ones, but I could only recommend Mobile Tech Videos, as the owner Josh has a very good reputation here. You might give them a call to see what you can find out.
This is probably nothing since Creepy is da man, but without ADB can you just connect to your computer as USB storage and pull files from there? I'm not sure where the notes program you're using stores its data, but I didn't think it would bring too much shame upon myself to suggest it.

[Q] Help gaining access to Rezound with broken screen

My wife dropped her rezound in water which turned out to be a bad decision.
She was due an upgrade so it wasn't a huge deal but we're trying to get some data off her phone. We did the usual rice treatment and have the phone powering up but the screen won't turn on. I plug it into the computer and both computer and phone beep (good sign right) but I can't remember what I need to hit to gain access through the computer (or if it will even work).
Could somebody take a snapshot of what happens when you plug your phone into a computer?
Or if anyone knows another way to gain access to the drive I'm open to that also.
The phone is completely stock.
Thanks
II'm currently not able to write a detailed how to at the moment but if you have time google using abd commands. Those will allow you to view your phones files and you should be able to copy stuff. Unfortunately this will only work if you have usb debugging enabled to the best of my knowledge.
This might be helpful

Edit: I saw that your completely stock you could try the HTC sync app to pull files off. So you could try this

What phone do I have ? (repost)

Hi there I am new here..
I bought a 'strange phone' at low cost, the model tag is 'HTC M9et', but the setting shown it is HTC Me, and it looks and works exactly like the Me, but it got dual SIM for the Chinese market sold by China Mobile, so I guess most of the h/w are the same as the Me except the radio. I got 2 problem with it, first it misses the update option on the settings so I couldn't do OTA update, it is still running on Lollipop. Secondly the USB mass storage doesn't work, when I connect it to the PC via USB nothing happened except the charging light, actually it does show briefly a lightning icon inside a square box, but nothing happened on the PC side, I tried both Linux and windows both the same., but I can connect card reader via it's USB, so the port is working normally. Because of the above problem I couldn't do USB tethering with it, I used my phones for internet via USB and Bluetooth for long time without problem regardless the computer OS in use. I suspect it is a locked phone the carrier removed some features, but strange is that I can use any SIM with it without problem. What I am trying to do is to get a custom ROM for it hopefully I can get back the full features, but first I must know the correct ROM to use, I don't want to spoil the phone although it is cheap, and I've little experience flashing my Motorola Droid Razar with CM ROM, please help me out many thanks !!!
To give a bit more info I just find out, the model type is
htc_hima_ace_ml_dtul
mmmh.... I found this post, after trying to solve very much the same problem. However it seems that this has not been resolved, so apologies for hijacking your thread. Hope someone has some answers or can point us in the right direction.

Can I get some help recovering lost memories? Golf cart accident

Hello all,
I have a Samsung S7 edge that recently got ran over by a golf cart (long story). The phone still makes noise however the screen is crushed and has no display. I have insurance so the phone is being replaced. My big issue is I have pictures of my kids on there I really do not want to lose. I have researched and researched and cannot find a way to get into the phone. If I plug it in via usb it starts charging and shows up in windows however without having access to the screen I cannot enable file sharing. Is there any way to recover my photos? My wife is going to lose it if I cant get them back and trust me, no one wants that (especially me).
I appreciate any help....
This is for Samsung Galaxy
visit this site: http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/find-my-mobile/
Log in and unlock your screen remotely, click this and when the progress bar filled it will say 'your phone is now unlocked'.
Connect with your USB Cable and Kies will allow you access to your files.
Hope this will help!
Thanks for the response. This is one of the many things I have tried. Unfortunately I never registered my phone with Samsung and since I cant access the screen I cannot set it up.
New phone comes tomorrow and I have to send the old one back. Anyone have any ideas? I'm really at a loss here...
