Trying to convert Alcatel 851L phone into a mobile hotspot. Any suggestions?
Either install a custom ROM or if you have a decent network provider it will be under More Networks. Bear in mind you might be charged for this

Hi All I have a HTC HERO GSM
I do not have internet service from my mobile service provider nor do I have access to wifi at home. My phone's firmware is 1.5 and i wish to get it to 2 so that I can use apps such as Whatsapp.
I tried using connectify to turn my laptop's internet connection into a wifi hotspot so that I can access the internet on my hero that way but it keeps asking me to enter the password all the time and I know I am entering it correctly.
How can I upgrade my firmware without access to wifi?
Maybe there is a desktop app i can use.

This is original firmwares. You need to select the firmware depending on the country. Try to google it
I do not have a tethering plan and I know about creating a new APN with the epc, but when I go into my Mobile Hotspot to do the tethering to my iPad, it says Error under the words Mobile Hotspot after I turn it on (I can still connect to the Internet on my phone with this error message)
My iPad can see my phones tethering connection under the WiFi connection choices and my phone shows me as being a connected User under users. I just cannot actually get on the Internet on my ipad with the Mobile Hotspot tether. I can get in the Internet still on my phone using the new APN.
Am I doing something wrong or is there another work around or way to tether FREE to my iPad using my phones Internet?
(I also tried a third party app called FoxFi and same thing happens where my iPad sees it as a connection access point but I cannot actually get on the Internet at all)
(Also what is Bluetooth Tethering?)
TIA

Hello I live in Ireland and I bought my Kyocera Duraforce pro E6820 from USA. The phone is unlocked sim and the mobile data is working (APN setting are fine) with Irelands carrier (Three mobile) but when I try to turn on the hotspot that message appear "Network connection unsuccsessful. There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablementof the Mobile Hotspotfunction. Please retry later."
So is that mean that i have to root my device and and change the rom and remove this AT&T restrictions or there is a easiest way to fix that problem.?
Thanks in advance.
Use pdanet app and you should be able to do it. I use the app on my Kyocera Duraforce e6820 with no issues.

just can use usb mode internet..can not hotspot :crying:
What's your firmware version? (e.g 1.015AT-3.xxxAT) The built in hotspot code is modified by the carrier that compiled the firmware, so no, probably no WiFi or Bluetooth tethering without root--USB can work fine though
I just found a unused Samsung galaxy SIII and I'm wanting to use it to bypass the school's website blocker on their wi-fi. I can't find an app that uses the phones wi-fi as the mobile network when turning on the hotspot. Also I was wanting to use a VPN with the hotspot on the phone. Does anyone have a good suggestion?
Also this isn't part of this thread's topic but does anyone know how to root the Samsung Galaxy SIII without using a pc?
WiFi as the mobile data = not possible as you need a source interface which is the Cellular Signal receiver (mobile data) and a separate interface for the destination which is the WLAN or WiFi interface.
Rooting is easier with a computer. Use PC running Windows and flash a custom recovery like TWRP using Odin. Use a PC running Ubuntu and flash custom recovery using heimdall. Search Google further and find the answer that works for you.
Wifi repeater is not possible on android. You could use the phones WiFi to connect to the network and connect a pc to the phone via USB.. In all honesty I don't think you'll get past the schools hardware firewall.
