I am now wanting to unroot as i have no use for it but i don't know how to. I am running stock firmware SCH-i545 galaxy s4 on kit kat. Is there a way to unroot?
SuperSu app itself has a full unroot option that works well most of the time. A quick Google search is often your friend

Never tried it myself, who cares about a splash screen anyway lol
I have no problem with the splash screen it is just that if i ever need to replace it with a warranty they might not accept it because of it

Yeah I guess, although I've handed in multiple Sammy devices running AOSP to Asurion with no problems.

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I've found multiple posts on how to unroot my phone but ALL the links are dead for Odin and everything I need to do it. SOMEBODY PLEASE throw me some links that work and instructions! I rooted it with the one click root method thing. I gotta get this thing back to stock so I can get my replacement since the screen is cracked.

You don't need to unroot your phone. I sent mine back rooted with a custom rom and got a replacement.

IMO its not worth the risk when it takes less than 5 minutes to Odin back to stock.

Thats great...but when they go to test it and find out that its been hacked, Verizon is going trace that phone back to you and charge you for the replacement. As the poster above stated, its not worth the risk when it takes 5min to odin back to stock.
they actually still can tell that the phone has been flashed even if you odin back to stock. The only way to truly completely hide that the phone has been rooted is to use a usb jig and reset the custom binary download counter.
But they honestly don't care. This is all much ado over nothing.

On the new devices that have flash counters yes...but from my understanding not on the fascinates or older devices. Maybe Im wrong tho?
I was pretty sure that the fascinated had this counter as it is triggered when Odin flashes the phone.
Anyway, I'll try to look into it if I get time.

Yes, thank you for that info!
Is there any way that maybe I've missed to either a) root the TMo GS3 without triggering the counter (I saw methods for AT&T and others) or b) reset the counter after triggering it? I've searched and searched without finding anything. Is there anything out there or would it be fairly simple to create something? I'm willing to get my hands dirty to create this if somebody is able to help me through he process.
Are the methods AT&T users use reproducible for us?
Bump
I'm looking for a way too. Havent rooted yet till I find a way. I have 30 days to try out Tmo through costco but I want to root so I can restore my apps+ data back via titanium.

Costco is the best! Great prices on phones too! There will be a way to reset it eventually. That is my GUESS.
Okay, I've found the process for creating the proper files so this can be done. It'll just be a specific Odin file, slightly tweaked from a stock Odin file.
I've never tried this before although it seems to be fairly standard with Galaxy devices. I don't believe ANYBODY has ever tried this on a T999 before.
I'm thinking I'll have something to test with this weekend. Anybody interested in helping me to test this? If you do, you do so knowing that this may
1) trigger your counter anyways, and
2) brick your phone into oblivion and make it blow up and kill your dog
If anybody's willing to take the plunge, I'll chime back in later to coordinate the testing. I need others to risk triggering their counter as I have 1 and only 1 device with the counter still at 0 and I want to personally see it successfully in action before I publicly release it. But if I miss something and trigger my counter, then I'll never be able to test it again until we find a way to reset the counter.
Thanks for taking the initiative. Hope you get successful results.

Hit me up on Twitter (@Jaxidian) or GTalk (Jaxidian)? I'll get you Dropbox links when I have this ready (will be doing it over the weekend unless something comes up).

Anybody else interested in helping test? Remember, I'm probably going to brick your phone and make it turn into a Decepticon where it'll kill your goldfish. And more realistically, if I mess it up, it'll probably be a soft-brick that will require a stock Odin flash and/or it'll trigger your flash counter.
So I'm mostly finished creating the file for this but I'm stopping. mrRobinson beat me to it, and apparently did so last night!

Hello everyone. I will soon be switching to a different carrier, and will be trading in my phone. Sadly, this means that it will need to be returned to stock. I have tried searching around and haven't found a straight answer. My phone is currently Loki'd. Is there any way I can restore back to stock MDK with Odin and remove all signs of root? Right now, when I start my phone up, it shows the unlocked lock and says modified, so I am hoping that there is some way I can return back to stock. Ideally I would want to go back to MDK, in case for some reason I don't switch. That way, I know I will be able to get back custom recovery if everything falls through. I will keep data disabled until I trade it in, in order to prevent an update.
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I tried searching and couldn't find anything. Maybe I just overlooked it.

Will flashing that remove the remove the "Custom" splash at startup as well, or will I need to run something else before doing that? I know on my SIII, I had to run Triangle Away before returning it as well.

Yes it will bring it back to complete stock MDK unrooted. I've actually used this a couple times to restore stock firmware. Works perfectly.

I was thinking about using it because I have the "Samsung Custom" splash screen.
I am running CM11 with Ktoonz Kernal and the newest radio.
Is there a risk of using it? And will it actually get rid of that splash screen?

I love Triangle away. As usual with all root procedures and applications there are risks. But, I've never had a problem with triangle away. I'd recommend that you should install SuperSu to replace Superuser unless if you already have it of course. It should get rid of the splash screen but I'm not 100% positive. All you have to do is tap reset counter then it should work. Also, I would remove you sd card just in case like it suggests because one time for a weird reason my sd card was formatted also. (Luckily it was a new SD card with no data on it!) But, I'd also check with @Chainfire just to make sure.
I don't get it you want a custom recovery custom rom custom phone. But Boy if a boot screen says custom we just can't have that. Always makes me rofl.

There's a risk with all custom ROMS however, I have this ROM and I'm lovin' it. It's awsome ;D you will enjoy it. As I said there is a risk. Not a big one and not a small one. If you follow the steps correctly then your G2G. If you muck up, your NOT screwed (see here) So have a go... If you dare!

Triangle Away won't clear the "Samsung Custom" splash screen. At least not on MJ7/MK2.
However, since you're apparently on MDK, there's no reason for you not to try it.
For whatever it's worth, I'm running with Triangle Away on my rooted MJ7 phone with the "Periodic System Modified Reset" enabled, but that still gives me "Custom" at boot. I don't care - if I need to clear it, I'll flash a stock ROM.
So I rooted my Note 2 a couple of weeks ago and I want to update to Kitkat. What do you suggest I do?
unroot then do OTA update?
I know @Surge1223 on the Galaxy S4 thread designed a way to go from root to kitkat and keep the root. Any one out there doing something similar for this device?
Thanks

I'm holding off on the update like most people say. Updating locked our bootloader so who knows what the next update could do. If you're rooted then just flash a kk ROM and be safe.

The only thing with that is, that the screen is cracked on it and I dont know if we plan on claiming the insurance on it. So if I flash it, I assume I will set off the flash/knox counter. Then I will have to purchase triangle away to reset it, correct? I guess I may have to do that anyways if I plan on unrooting it.
No idea what you mean by flash/counter and purchasing triangle. But if you mean flashing to stock and unrooting it's simple. Learn Odin search for use Odin s3 on XDA and its simple. If you get to that point I'll help you out. Hangouts I'm [email protected]

Thanks @fuzzychinsagrero. The counter is a warranty thing, at least it is on the s3 and s4, that can tell if you have modified or put a different OS (ie. cynaogen, etc). If that counter has been changed from 0, sometimes they void the warranty because you tampered with it. I think you can tell if you have by doing the vol down+home+power when turning on the phone. Then do volume up for download mode and then you can see in the text in the upper left hand corner a flash counter and knox counter. Like I said, this is how it is on the s3 and s4, I figure it is the same.

And If I am correct, Triangle Away by chainfire, can reset that counter. Yes, odin is great I have used it to do some on my s4 and s3 I used to have.
Only way to get kitkat right now is to wait till Verizon actually releases, which wont be at least for another couple months. I wouldnt be surprised if its released after the Note 4 is released. (4.3 for Note 2 was pushed out after note 3, if I remember correctly. I might be wrong).
But as of right now, unless you're running 4.1.2 with an unlocked bootlader, you're out of luck.
But if you do have an unlocked bootloader, go flash AOKP or CM11 nightly builds. I prefer AOKP because it seemed a little more stable than CM11.

AFAIK Triangle Away simply hides the lock but if you dive deep in settings the system still reports as "Custom".
