Hi, I have recently come back to an SGS2 after dumping one after they first came out. The reason for me was terrible battery life, the 3G, H, H+ switching lockup issue, and poor GPS performance. At the time I think the most recent firmware was XXKE4. My original phone was originally on 3, which I de-branded and upgraded every time a newer version of firmware got released, after a couple of weeks use I noticed a duff pixel, so re-branded, took it back and swapped it for another, did the same customisation and it was still no good, I could be wrong, but I think the received signal strength was worse on the second one too. In any case the aforementioned issues still remained. In the end I got rid of it and went for a HTC sensation.
This proved, ultimately, to be a bad choice, what with all the dust issues, and an even bigger battery life problem than the SGS2, also, despite popular belief, i think the build quality of the SGS2 is better, sensation is horrible and creaky. Anyway, I ended up getting all disappointed with dual-core phones, and went back to my trusty old LG optimus one for a bit of normality. Eventually tho, I got the opportunity to own an SGS2 again, and I crumbled..
Now, I have an SGS2, I was immediately greeted with a software update, which I did, to XWKG4, still 3 branded, only mod was insecure kernel, root, reflash standard kernel. That's it.
Now I have no 3G, H, H+ switching issues, it takes its time sometimes but never gets completely stuck like it used to, GPS is better, Signal strength is actually good, no browser flash crashes, and most impressive, even set up as it was before with multiple push email, whatsapp, skype running constantly, twitter, constant syncing, wifi on all the time, gps on all the time, no battery saving at all, it's using about 4% an hour in standby. Which I think is pretty darn good. In fact, I can't find anything to complain about.
Seems to me, some of these problems could be related to individual handsets, so i'm keeping this one, and not gonna be messing with any ROM's either.
Anyone else got one that "just seems to work"?
Pink spot on camera is my only problem, playing with white balance almost solves this. I get 10 - 12hrs heavy use, 36hrs medium use and 48ish hrs light use. all with wifi on constantly, gps on, emails on push. no signal issues, no yellow or blue tint on screen. sound through headphones is great on power amp, never used stock player, no wake up lag. from reading on here we may be the lucky ones tho, either that or the other happy people don't bother posting
Btw I'm on unbranded voda UK, kf3, stock Rom without root
My wifi keeps dropping out. It'll work for 10 minutes and then stop completely yet still show bars of signal. Latest firmware i've used is KG3. I've now taken it in to be fixed.
No Probs with wifi here, seems to work just fine. Actually, just had my first issue, although nothing major, was using the built in email app, just went to reply to an email and it kept insisting that it was an unrecognized email address, wouldn't let me reply, so just binned it and gone back to using Gmail.
Had 2 phones from O2 in the UK and both have poor in call volume through the headset.
Music volume is fine. I think it uses different hardware for voice calls? Which means it might not be fixable via firmware. I'll make do tho cause everything else is smashing!

Phone - Galaxy s2 i777, about 18 months old, running the factory ICS update
Ok, so I was initially having problems with my phone rapidly losing charge - Shutting down at 70% booting up at 40%, I assumed it was shutting down because it was over heating due to a large amount of power being discharged at once. I lived with that for a while, I assumed a new battery might fix it.
Next, before I got a new battery, my power button stopped working, so the only way I could unlock my screen was to get a message, or plug the phone in.
Now, I've installed ShoStock3 v2.5.1, (started out installing a kernel by Jeboo) then switched to Siyah v7.9
The power button issue came back after a short amount of time with the jeboo kernel, but seems to be fixed with the Siyah kernel (I'm not sure if that is just a timing/coincidence thing or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning)
My real issue now is that I have almost no service, I get anywhere from a "no service available triangle" to a 3G or H+ symbol with no bars shown. Every now and then I get a few bars, receive a few messages, and then the bars go away.
I assumed it was the modem since ShoStock3 says it flashed the modem during the installation dialog, I've tried using:
UCKJ4
UCLE5
UCLK3
and UCPLC5
so far, and nothing has worked. Maybe I'm just a noob and using the wrong modems, maybe it's a hardware issue, no idea.... so please help me out, I've been searching the forums for a couple of days to fix my problems, you guys have been great so far.
Also, I'm from around Baltimore Maryland in the US if that helps narrow down what modem I should be using.

Modem won't affect service. Are you sure you aren't in a dead zone? Also the battery thing is normal for our phone if it reboots
Nope, not in a dead zone. The issue just started recently, before I had plenty of service. WiFi works, but both my cell service and my GPS won't, which I thought indicated modem... any other ideas?
Thanks for the reply.

Try going back to stock gb?
Okay, so I'm still on shotock3 with the siyah kernel and the I777UCLE5 modem. I changed my APN settings around to match what I found in this thread:
It seems better than it was, but still not working properly. The connection comes and goes, when I get a connection speed test is showing about:
120ms ping
3.8Mbps DL
.4Mbps UL
But most of the time speed test won't even connect to a server.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing my phone to have service sporadically?
Maybe they're doing service in your area or having issues. Also meteorological events like solar flares and things can wreak havoc on service. May not be you.

Is my problem just some ridiculously easy thing that everyone knows so no one wants to help a noob? Or am I just getting bs answers because you don't it? "Modems don't effect signal", "are you in a deadzone?", "solar flares have been known to mess things up"
Can I give more information to help out? I'm not a noob to forums, I'm a noob to this forum, I've searched, I've read stickies, I just can't find a solution (my searching is probably not as fruitful as an experienced user's)
I haven't tried going back to gb yet, but I will tonight after work if you think that could help. I ran ics for months with no problems though, so I don't feel like that caused the problem (granted I'm on jb now, but still).
I know you guys are the ones helping me, so complaining about bs answers isn't all that smart. But answers about solar flares make it harder for other noobs to search for this problem and avoid posting.
...Did u think I was being a smartass? If so, u may want to learn more about the world we live in. Because everything I said as well as all the answers you got were completely legitimate and none were BS as you called it.

Don't come to these forums looking for help. Then blast the people who are giving you sound advice. I have been running the same rom you posted since release. I too flashed UCLE5 because I haven't had as much luck with the standard modem Sho uses, and have great signal since flashing UCLE5. No issues here. Could be any of the number of suggestions mentioned in this thread. I would suggest you take some of the above advice, and maybe thank some of the people who gave it to you rather than being an ingrate. When you flash a modem run it for a day or so and let it settle in as well. Don't just flash it, run a speed test, and then flash another. Sometimes after flashing it seems it takes my radio's a day or so to even out.

The "service in your area" part is EXTREMELY legit; used to happen to me all the time.
Not entirely wise to criticize those trying to help you.
My problem has been going on for 3 days, both at work and at home, roughly 50 miles apart, and no one else around me has been having any problems. Also, no GPS signal... therefore I think I can eliminate both service in the area, and astrological events.
I think step one before anyone goes to the internet to ask for help from strangers, is to find someone close by and say "hey, do you have at&t? Are you having any phone problems?"

I honestly assumed he was just being a smart ass, I know I'm the one asking for help here so I'm not trying to be an ingrate. The service thing is a fairly easy thing to check though, i can't imagine someone wouldn't check that first. The solar flare thing is funny.... but not really helpful...
I didn't realize that I needed to let the modem settle in first... being a noob, I didn't even consider that. it's been about a day, with noticable improvement from when I first flashed it, but still not what I would call functionable.
the only two suggestions on the problem in this thread were trouble with the service in the area, and solar flares, I was only trying to rule those out. The suggestion on a solution, was reinstall gb. I was initially planning on doing that after work today, but now I think I'll wait for the modem to settle in longer.
Any other suggestions on what the problem could be would be helpful. Again, I wasn't trying to be ungrateful, just trying to point out that i didn't think those were legitimate suggestions on my problem. My apologies... I have used xda posts for past problems, and am immensly grateful to have a community like this around. I have been trying to obey the "suggestions for noobs" "search before you post" etc...
Are you under warranty? You may be having a hardware failure since it is affecting your radio signal and gps.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
No warranty, the phone is 18 months old, I haven't ruled out hardware failure. That was actually my initial guess, but then a new modem and time seem to help slightly...
I was under the impression that the gps antenna and the cellular antenna (and the speaker) were on the same piece of hardware, and both the GPS and the radio were controlled by the modem. That could be way off though.
Not sure what modem you are useing now, but you did say with ics you were fine and I am pretty sure the UCLE5 modem was the one that came with my 4.0.3 update. It seems to work best for me. If that is the one you are currently running let it settle a bit. I have also seen some people in other phone forums here complaining of throttling of late as well. Just a thought.
Throttling would be slow speeds though right? Not the lack of ability to even send a text.
When I do have service, my DL speeds have been around 4Mbps, which I think is decent.
My problem is more like the signal fading in and out, it almost seems like when I have a good signal then try to use anything that requires data, the signal disappears, would that be throttling?
No.
His issue sounds like a hardware failure. My I777 recently started having the same problem; I tried everything from flashing different modems, returning to GB, even disassembled the phone and swapped the part that controls the signal reception from my wife's to test.. everything I tried was a no go. I eventually figured out after some intense searching that the motherboard was failing, so I decided to just get another phone. Right now my three year old son uses it to play games and stuff. I'm not saying that yours is the exact same issue, but as Red_81 suggested it may be a general hardware failure. What you need to figure out is whether this is exactly so and what is the root cause, then determine if you want to replace the failed part or just get another device. They're pretty cheap on Ebay. Hope some of this helps point you to find a solution.
any one else noticing low signal bars on 4.2.2 .where I normally had 3 bars on 4.0.3 to 4.1.2 I now have 1 bar call quality is ok but most times I have no signal and whenever I make a call and hang up I cannot make a call immediately after I have to wait about 30 seconds or more or the call fails ..I have tried numerous kernels and its the same thing so it seems to be 4.2.2 based.
Try flashing a different modem.

From what I've seen it is a bug in 4.2.2 that you have to wait to place another call or it fails. Personally what i would do is I would take note of the dBm in the current rom, and the previous ROM, which I am assuming is stock, to see if the way the Roms measure the bars differently. I just like flashing and playing around with my phone, so other people might see this as unnecessary to do that To check out the dBm Go to settings>about phone>status and take note of the signal strength in dBm.

Just got my new Redmi Note 3 Pro (kenzo) last week. Decided to jump onto a custom ROM after using MIUI for a few days. Here's what I've done:
1. Official bootloader unlocked
2. Installed alka TWRP
3. Wipe all partitions
4. Installed CM13 Radios.zip , then installed official CM13 ROM + OpenGapps + SuperSU
Booted into the ROM fine, used it for a few days and everything works well (including fingerprint). Problem is, I keep getting orange/yellow/red signal bars under battery stats. It's not constantly either. If I leave the phone at the same spot, the signal fluctuates between orange and light green constantly. The entire cellular network signal under my battery graph looks like a traffic light.
I'm not using LTE, just standard 3G. I get about -85db to ~91db, which is high. At the same spot on a different phone (also on 3G), I get about -75db (the lower the better). The thing is, on my kenzo, the signal bar is usually full or almost full, so I don't understand why the signal is so bad. So I thought, maybe I just need to flash another radio/modem. I then took the official MIUI 7.x ROM and flashed the NON-HLOS.bin via fastboot, but the result is still the same.
I've tested a different ROM as well, but same result. I don't seem to have any issues with call qualities and battery seems to be OK and unaffected by this. Not sure if it's a bug (unlikely, as I've tested both a CM and AOSP ROM), or perhaps an issue with the modem/radios or more likely a hardware fault with my phone? Someone else reported this issue as well, but apparently it works fine for them on ZephyrOS or something (I haven't tested this).
I must also point out that while I was on stock MIUI, I don't see any bad signals on my phone. It's always green.
Anyone?
Hi, I'm the one who posted it works on Zephyr. But it doesn't, actually. I solved this problem by putting it on airplane mode, waiting ~10secs and the problem stops(mostly, if it didn't, try again). You can check in *#*#4636#*#*, it doesn't drop to -113dBm. I thought it might not drain battery but I'm on ressurection remixed and there's a phone idle drain of about 131mAh.
Hi mate, thanks for your reply.
I've noticed that as well, tried putting it in airplane mode and then back to normal mode, the signal seems to be a lot more stable. My phone has never went to -113dBm though, just averaging high -80dbm ~ -95dbm. I've noticed that if you hold the phone with your left hand, the signal is much better. I think this may be similar to iPhone 4's signalgate issue, where the modem chip/band is sitting at a bad spot that is blocked depending on how you hold the phone. Disappointing to be honest.....but anyway, signal seems to be stable so far on the leaked 5.1 Qualcomm AOSP ROM. Same thing on MIUI.
Update:
BTW, it's not just the phone signal, even GPS is affected as well. When I'm inside buildings, I can't get any GPS signal at all using Device Only. If I select High Accuracy (which uses GPS and WiFi for fetching signals), I can then lock on a signal. In other words, the Device Only option (which solely relies on GPS itself) will fail when I'm inside buildings. This tells me that the chip for fetching phone and GPS signals is either crap, or that Xiaomi has packaged them in a bad layout design or position within the phone. It doesn't matter what ROM I try, the result is the same. Even using apps like FasterGPS (which downloads the gps.conf file for your country) doesn't help.
However, it's not really a big deal. I can get a lock on the GPS signal inside buildings if I use High Accuracy. Once a signal is locked, I can then switch back to Device Only and GPS will continue to work. Also, when I'm outside of the building, I can get a fast lock on using Device Only straight away, so it's not really a problem. It's just that compared to my Galaxy S5 (a 2 year old phone), the Redmi Note 3 doesn't seem much better. I know it's a budget phone, but the specs of the phone should be a lot better than my 2 year old S5.
One last thing I should point out is that the building I'm in isn't a big building with multiple floors. It's actually a small house and I get about -75dbm for my phone signal. So it's not like I'm in a bad spot with no reception. GPS just doesn't work well when you're inside a house/building on this phone.
I use a X829 4/64 GB and i recently noticed that i DO NOT HAVE ANY MOBILE NETWORK SIGNAL on Sim 1 (no data no calls). The truth is that during the last time i stopped using my le max 2 as my daily phone, so although i flashed many different " eui" roms i did not tried to insert my sim cards in the phone and try make any calls as i had no problem in the past. Yesterday i flashed AICP - Oreo - X2 (very good by the way) and this time i have the same problem with Sim 2. Some members have created similar threads in the past but i did not found any solution. I really wonder if someone here has any idea or any solution

I did not went back to stock. I flashed the zip when i was on latest Cuoco92 23s rom (coming from Oreo, as i was trying to find a solution) and then i flashed Oreo again. In both cases i had both sim cards wotking with a better (as i belieeve) network signal than the previous months i used my phone
I had the same problem with my network and the newest cuoco92 rom, but flashing the zip-file of andr68rus seems to have solved the problem! At least at the moment, the networks works again und I also have the feeling, the strength of the connection is much better than ever before!
Update:
The flash somehow only worked shortly. After a day or so, I had the same problem again. No network at all ( (neither data nor for phone calls), although the phone shows good network connetction! Strange.

For testing reasons i'm using the phone continuously for more than two weeks and i have not any problem at all. Considering that the network signal is better either at my home and at my work i believe that the zip from andr68rus made the "miracle". Of course i do not know what the zip file really did after flashing it (and if the better network signal is because of it) but i can "enjoy" the results

My sim sometimes shows no service when I switch data from 1 sim to another sim. After restart or several times turning on/off then it shows my sim.
Don't know if it's rom related issue or not but I want to try this zip as users reported that it works like magic.
Is it OK to flash?
Thankyou for your response

When you switch data from the one sim to the other it is normal to loose the signal for a while . It happens with every phone but normally the signal "comes" back again in a few seconds. I don't know if the zip will work for your problem but why don't you ask andr68rus "directly"?
So it's normal?
Yup that exact scenario. So if it's normal then I think it's ok.
I have already flashed this zip and now my data works better then ever. I have sent him pm but he didn't reply. Now you already cleared things up for me. Thanks for your response.
Can someone tell me does both sim slots supports LTE or not?
I am wondering if it might be possible, that this data connection issue is related to the battery status of the phone?
At least, with a fully charged battery fresh from the charger (for example in the morning), I typically always have good connection. The same when loading during the day. But then, and after a while without charging I loose connection or it gets more unstable at least.
Did somebody observe something similar?

It "sounds" strange. Personally i never had similar problems nad i think that this is not a common problem
I found that on a German website, the same problem that I observed concerning the network connection and the battery was also reported. For everybody able to read German, you find it here:
https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/leeco-le-max-2-x820-x821-x822.2715/lte-bricht-zusammen-keine-verbindung-bei-akku-unter-60-mit-netzteil-ok.860971.html
They report that the network works very stable as long as the battery voltage is above 4 V. Once it is lower, the phone loses connection. If this is generally true, then this might be the problem in my case. With the phone coming from the charger, the voltage is about 4.3 V, but relatively quickly if falls below 4 V.
Is this purely a battery problem? Or could maybe some software modifications somehow help?

Please add me to update.
As mentioned in another thread, I have been experiencing the same problem when the battery level goes down to 70% or less (~4volt) the mobile network indicator still shows good signal but both voice and data stop working ie. cannot make or receive phone calls and no internet connectivity. But as soon as I plug in the charger, everything works perfectly.
