[Q] Rooting problem, no network service / bad radio? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I own the Leagoo Lead 1 (MTK6582 phone) and followed these instructions to root my phone
http://www.needrom.com/download/leagoo-lead-1/
Everything else works, but I have no network service. I tried everything, checking hidden settings (for radio setings), checking correct APN:´s, re-rooting etc.
I can either get the network to work via using "GSM only" (so no data connection and even SMS wont work)
or then using "WCDMA only", only data conneciton, no voice call possibility or SMS/MMS
This is really strange that both voice & data wont work at the same time!
Can someone please instruct me what I could do:
1. try to flash some other radio? I read there are some risks involved with this --> but what kind of radios could I try (I.e.could some HTC or Samsung specific radio work)
- if so, what should I name the .zip file for it to work in recovery (I tried putting one radio file to my external SD and flash it in recovery but it wont do anything)
2. Can I try to flash some random Android ROM to my phone and see if it works? I know this is a big risk but I searched the forum and found some "custom ROM"´s that might work on many devices.
3. Is there some way to edit the radio settings except the very basic options in hidden commands --> radio settings. (i.e. can it be related to me being in Finland vs. some other region?)
Thanks for your help.
Cheers.

Can any of you experts help me on this ?
thank you

[SOLVED] Mobile connection and SMS stopped working after messing with ROMS

Hi guys,
few days ago I've decided to move forward with Fusion Update 7 ROM to Fusion Update 8. Procedure was about normal beside the fact I had also purged SD card. Upgrade went well, but:
I cannot get mobile connection
No SMS can be sent
No matter which ROM/RADIO I had flashed after my previous move everything beside those two is working. So I can get WIFI connection or receive SMS, I can also call and receive calls.
My configuration:
- Hardware: HTC HERO GSM (white)
- Recovery: AmonRa 1.7
- ROM: FROYO_2.2_elelinux_v2.2 (at the moment)
- RADIO: 63.18.55.06OU_6.35.15.01 (at the moment)
Additional info:
- SMSC is set correctly (checked using *#*#4636#*#*)
- APN list is correct
- rollback to vanilla 1.5 ROM from RUU not helped
- other SIM cards from other carriers work the same way
I trying to get some debug information using adb, but only thing I can find is that ppp connection is missing in netcfg.
Do anyone know how to initiate Mobile Connection through adb shell ? or anyone get similar problem before?
Thank in advance,
Problem solved. During messing with ROMS my SIM card must been somehow damaged.
After more tries with other SIM cards my phone started to work finally.
You are missing the correct apn settings for your mobile data and also missing or have the wrong SMS service number, have a search on the forums here, or Google and you should find them. Always worth backing these up or writing them down, as not all rom's have necessarily got all providers son's included.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Thank you for fast reply.
I checked those before:
SMSC:
- refreshed with *#*#4636#*#* and those looks correctly for my carrier
APNs:
- there where missing fields in APN config which I've updated according to carrier configuration
Still nothing had changed.
I assume that it must be some kind of config that do not change between ROMS.
(I will update first message with those info.)
Did you checked with an other SIM/carrier?
Yes I did.
Effects where the same.
I've also rolled back to vanilla 1.5 ROM from RUU. Nothing changed.
It must be some kind of external configuration that is not changed via ROM replacement. Can this be true?
Thread moved to Q&A.

[Q] Modaco NoData

I have a problem. When I am abroad I get error messages all the time because my phone is looking for a GPRS signal. I searched the forum and found a possible solution in the NoData application from Modaco. I installed it but only got an error message when trying to open it. Following the suggestions in some forum, I have now also installed the SDA Application Unlocker and the Modaco GPS and Hack unlocker. To no avail, it seems, for I still get the same error message when trying to open NoData.
Can someone help me?
I also have a second, unrelated, problem - it seems that the voice recorder only records onto the inbuilt memory and not onto the storage card. I find no solution for this.
do you have net framework installed? try 3.5 compact framework for mobile devices.
You can always go into connections under Settings and erase all your APNs, that way the phone has nothing to try to dial out to, and will stop giving you an error.

Thank you! What is an APN though?
I don't know if I have net framework installed, will try to find and install it?
Thanks!
An APN is an access point name, the number your phone dials into in order to recieve data services from your provider. And yeah, search the forums for .net 3.5 and install it.

If you have a stock ROM, you probably need to install .Net Framework. If you have a custom ROM, you can check with the ROM chef to see if they added it. Often, this is noted in the first few posts of the thread.
I believe the in-call recording goes to device memory on purpose. Writing to SD while in call is problematic. Copy resulting file to SD card afterwards.

[Q] Android market 'no connection' when turning on wifi

Att atrix 4g (mb860) 2.3.6 rooted
When connecting to wifi, and open market, it shows 'no connection' and a 'retry' button.
What i have tried:
1. clear data, force stop
2. re-install market,
3. upgrade market to the latest version
4. downgrade to a lower version
All above approaches do not work for me.
And when I search similar posts from our forum, a solution I found is to ensure the system date and time are accurately set. But I can not figure out how to accurately set the system date and time.
Can someone help on this? Thanks very much
system date and time is easy... go to settings and you should see date/time... and set accordingly.
as for your market issue... does it connect when using your phones 3g signal? when you're connected to your wifi can you connect to other sites? are there any other apps blocking your connection? (eg lbe, droidwall).
Long shot... try to wipe cache?
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but maybe you could try a factory reset or install another rom?

[SOLVED] "APN settings are not available for this user"

Hello everybody,
I have a rooted ASUS Zenfone 5 (A501CG), Android 5.0 Lollipop. After my last upgrade (OTA, by the way) I had to perform a factory reset for personal reasons. Since then, I cannot input my APN settings manually. I get the following message: "APN settings are not available for this user". Googling the internetz and searching through these very forums came to no avail. I tried a new factory reset; then, I recursively changed ownership and permissions for /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony (acording to a thread at StackExchange, these files should belong to user radio and group radio, with chmod of at least 660). I also chow'd/chmodded /config/telephony, just in case... Nothing has worked and I still get the same message, rendering my 3G/HSPA+ services unreachable.
I hope somebody has a solution for this!
Thanks in advance!
update: I tried to set my preferred APN manually using ADB, as per a tutorial posted to an Android.StackExchange Q&A called "How do I add an APN via ADB" (sorry, cannot post links yet ). My APN appears in the config as expected, but my data connection still doesn't work, and the same message appears when I try to open the APN settings menu.
another update
I have posted a question at Android.StackExchange. I tried every single procedure as suggested there, without positive results. So far, I have tried the following:
Factory reset
Changing permissions and ownership of telephony-related files
Adding preferred APN settings via ADB
Repeatedly rebooting the device with mobile data turned off and wifi turned on
I couldn't still get telephony files from CM12.1 into my Lollipop device (I don't know how unsafe it is and did not figure out how to install into VirtualBox and transfer the files afterwards).
This is a last and desperate bump to this thread, as there has been a month without access to mobile data and neither solution as proposed have worked so far.
Thanks for your attention!
solution!
sorry if I am necro-bumping this thread, but this time I have the best of reasons:
The latest stock ASUS update (v. 3.24.40.78) solves the problem.
I had to unroot my phone, apply both 5.3.3.3 and 5.2.2.2 downgrades (in this order), then I applied a FOTA upgrade (97Mb download, received and applied automatically). Then I could install the latest version (downloaded from ASUS website; uploaded via USB to phone's internal storage; unplugged USB and then the update could be applied automatically). APNs are available by default, I did not even have to input my APNs manually (as I had to do in prior versions).
Hope it helps anybody else facing the same issue!

Resurrection/LineageOS| IMEI needing restore?

I'm hoping someone might point me in the right direction for restoring cellular functionality on a recently flashed GT-I9300 ?
Essentially what I've attempted to so is up-cycle an old Samsung Galaxy so that my son can communicate with myself and his grandparents on Signal.
System: RR-N-v5.8.5-20180914-i9300-Unofficial
Recovery: TWRP 3.02.1
RR is up and running (and quite slick!!) and generally there appear to be no issues apart from:
- SIM being undetected
- Baseband version: "unknown"
- Settings --> Wireless & networks --> Cellular Networks: APN / Network operators / Preferred network type; these are all greyed out
There's a brand new sim card in it (two others have been tried); I just need a way of helping RR discover the correct settings needed for cellular functionality? I wondered if there might be a modem config file somewhere I could edit - but I've not got that far yet, and I'm not even sure if this would be the right approach. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Hi,
I presume you have no backup of your /efs partition ?
Have you tried another ROM ?
