Intermittent Internet Access when not on WiFi - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently flashed to Paranoid Android (CM11 base) and when not on Wi-Fi I only get intermittent internet access. (Phone calls and sms still work correctly).
I live in a 4G area, so sometimes the connection strength icon will show DC, H+ or nothing at all and just bars. Cycling the radio on and off works sometimes, and when it does connect it connects fairly steadily.
Phone model is D6503, and country is Australia. I created a backup of the stock ROM using TWRP that came with the phone, is there a way I can take the config files from there and flash them? Would that help with my issue or is this a known CM11 issue with the X2?
Thanks kindly!

I have the very same -or at least a VERY similar - problem, with stock firmware.
I'm running 17.1.1.A.0.402 (Germany/Telekom) and every once in a while, my internet just doesn't turn itself on, when leaving a WLAN, or when entering a "no internet" zone. It just won't start any data connection while phone/SMS services run fine. I have to manually turn it off and back on. Then it'll work fine, right away!
I already checked, there's no new system updates for me to install (even though Sony website says 17.1.2.A.0.314 is the newest, it's not available for my device. Neither OTA, nor Sony PC companion can find any update).

Problem with cm9 and wifi

Hi i went from stock ics on my ray to cm9 by followingnexact step by step guide provided by cm9. Used their kernel as well. Have never modded my phone before. Having a small problem with wifi though. After my phone has been asleep for a while, if i wake it up the wifi icon in status bar is no longer blue its a dark grey and i can no longer browse anything or use the internet. Ive tried rebooting. I did the whole wipe cache etc when installing cm9. In wifi settings in advanced ive also left the setting to "leave wifi on when sleep" checked. If i turn off and on the wifi connection the phone ofcourse is able to reconnect again the icon is blue and i can connect. It not jsut a one off thing its been happening since i isntalled the rom.
If i wakek from sleep a few minutes later i have no issue with wifi. Its only when its been sleep for a while do i have this issue.
Any solutions?
I have the exact same problem but for me it's even bigger, whenever i turn on wifi on my modem, i can connect to internet on my phone, but after awhile i lose my connection completely, on my phone and on my pc also, the only way to get it back is to reset my router and wait for like 5-10minutes...

If its also an issue with your. Pc then your issue might be also the router.
My other devices actually work fine in my case its oky this phone that has issues. Macbook iphone ipad nexus s no problems with those.
Same issue here. I can see available networks but unable to connect. There should be no problem with the wifi router as all my other devices work well and I have tried another router. Now I have to flash back to stock firmware.

Your issue seems more severe than mine. Mine actually connects and works, just that when it wakes from long sleep it wont work until i turn off and on wifi.
I get this problem too, but my problem even worse than yours. My wifi lose it's connection after a while, but the icon on status bar shows it's connected, running ping test, browse, even play store can't be accessed. I pinged the router and got unreachable.
And yeah, this problem occurs when I'm using all ICS based rom..
Anybody has any idea if this is a known problem, or if its just us few having thisissue?

I have same problem. I have SE xperia mini with CM9. WiFi worked fine until yesterday. Now phone can't connect to AP (full signal - try connect -> signal drops down), but sharing 3G internet over WiFi works fine. I cleared dalvik cache, but that didn't help.

JB broke my wifi

I've tried searching and haven't found anyone with the same issue as I.
Jellybean broke my wifi, I had no connection issues before whatsoever.
Now, it still shows it's connected to the network with full strength but when I go to use the internet or any apps, it says there is no network connection, webpage unavailable, no autosync, etc. Things are fine when I go back to 3G and nothing has changed on my phone but the JB update. I've turned Sprint Optimizer off and on, deleted and manually readded all the wifi networks, and am not sure what else to do besides hard reset. Any ideas? Also, I am not rooted.

have you done a complete network reboot (cable modem and wifi router) when having the crappy sprint connection optimizer off?
if this helps you feel free to hit the thanks button
Thanks for the help! I found the answer in another thread... Seems JB automatically turns on "DLNA auto-ip" for some people. The fix that worked for me was Settings>Wifi>Menu>Advanced and uncheck "DLNA auto-ip" at the bottom.

Can I get my device to auto-connect to WiFi without internet?

Hi everyone,
I own a Nexus 5 and I am running stock firmware, Android 6.0 MRA58K, unrooted and bootloader locked. I use this device at work and frequently connect to a WiFi LAN that has no internet connection (by design -- I use it to talk to other devices on the network). In older software versions (I believe back in the KitKat days if I recall), I could simply turn on the WiFi slider on my phone, and it would automatically connect to the network, and I could immediately start talking to the devices I need to (this was excellent!). Then when Lollipop first rolled around, it would still connect to the network automatically, but it would realize that there's no internet connection, so it would then prioritize the Cellular Data network, preventing me from communicating with my network devices. So I had to do an extra step by disabling my data connection, then things would work properly again. (Of course, this also meant that when I wanted to jump off the Wi-Fi, I would need to re-enable Cellular Data.)
Nowadays, Android seems to remember that my WiFi network doesn't have an internet connection, so it never joins it by default (very frustrating!). So every time I want to jump on the network, I need to turn on WiFi, then manually select the network to join, then go into the Data section and disable cellular Data, and then things would be working fine. Of course, if I ever walked away from the Wi-Fi range and then came back, I would again need to manually select the network.
And now with this lastest Marshmallow update, a new Notification pops up every time I join the Network that says:
"Wi-Fi has no Internet Access. Touch for options." When touched it says, "This network has no Internet access. Stay connected? Yes/No" There's also a checkbox that says, "Don't ask again for this network". Every time I check that box, and say YES to stay connected. And yet each and every time I connect to the network, this notification appears again! (The checkbox seems to do nothing). I've looked at the Advanced options in the Wi-Fi settings, and nothing there seems to help.
So my question is, is there a way for me to go back to the "good 'ole days", where I can get my phone to automatically join this WiFi network, and still prioritize it over cellular data?
If need be, I'm perfectly fine with rooting/unlocking my phone, if I need to install some custom firmware or whatever.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

<Solved> Swift2+ Nougat v7.1.1 WiFi issue

<Solved> Swift2+ Nougat v7.1.1 WiFi issue
I have a Swift2+ (unmodified) which worked fine under Marmite.
The OTA upgrade to Nougat v7.1.1 seemed to go smoothly, apart from a slight issue recognising the SIM and the SDCard which some fiddling around and a couple of restarts seem to have sorted.
However......The phone is unable to connect to the Internet via WiFi - checked network settings, changed to static address, restarted again - still doesn't work.
Using the Fing app reveals all the other active devices on the local network so the WiFi is connecting.
Looking on the router I can see the phone as a connected device. But the phone insists there is no Internet connectivity.
All the other devices, including various mobile phones, all work just fine.
Moving the Swift2+ away from WiFi range it switches to the 3G network and then insists there is no Internet connection via the GPRS channel. Moving to a friends house gives the same issue with the WiFi at that location.
So the problem is with the phone not the WiFi network.
Any suggestions ?
I've no problems with WiFi, try to wipe data (factory reset) and if it doesn't help contact WileyFox support...
Problem sorted - it was a bad DNS entry on the phone, for some reason stayed the same on static and DHCP until I edited it.
Now all ok.

Understanding radio logs - no data connection while roaming

Hi,
I'm trying to understand the reasons my Droid Mini (running Lineage OS 13 with the January security update) won't properly connect to foreign networks with data connectivity.
For work I've been travelling to China a few times a year, and every time I come here data connection is an issue. My home network is T-Mobile; and if I flash my Droid Mini back to the last available stock (4.4.4-SU6-7) the data connection works fine. So it's not a HARDWARE or PROVIDER issue.
It was suggested that I capture radio logs using Matlog, so I did that and have attached here an export of me switching airplane mode OFF and acquiring network.
My baseband is currently MSM8960PRO_BP_23255.132.81.00R. It's one back from the latest, but the issue happens on any baseband I've tried...
I ALWAYS get a regular connection so calls and texts work fine, but never data.
If anyone could help me understand these logs and get some hints as to why I can never get a data connection, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
R
