So lately ive been useing the android emulator trying to become familiar with it how to set it up useing eclipse, adb, rooting, flashing roms, and what are good Roms. So currently ive been useing genymotion because it seems to run the fastest and has some really good features such as the ability to fake your GPS device into thinking your in any country and i found a genymotion that runs Gapps already rooted. Issues that im currently having atm is i want to try out flashing some roms but when i go through the process of trying to put it in download mode all genymotion ever does is just reboot itself. Ive started trying to use the android SDK now but its always so slow and i cant use intel haxm because im guessing my computer is amd so it wont allow me to install it. other than that i have a feeling its going to work just like genymotion because it is based on same type of system. does anyone have some tips or insight that could help me out? Id like to learn all about this stuff and i think im doing pretty well. I feel i have a much better understanding of processes behind phones now alot more also. i have no idea what i will do with the knowledge maybe ill try programming again like i did when i was younger or hacking or something. Thanks for reading i hope someone has insight or information that could help me out.

I have a requirement for setting up a dual boot on the HTC Hero using the SD Card for the 2nd OS.
I've looked around and have come across the Dual Booting for the Windows Mobile and Android on the HTC HD2 and was hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction archiving this on an Hero.
I'm not looking to run both OS at the same time, ie not running Ubuntu/Debian via a loop device.
So if anyone knows of any good guides for editing the Boot.img, i thinking that where the magic gonna happen, i might be wrong, please i would very much like to hear from you.

ubuntu in its present form simply will not run. cmd based linux is a possibility for many mobile devices, as has been prooved by cmd linux on iphone os.
I wouldnt know about how to go about this though.

I've recently dove into ROM Development for my Evo due to a weird issue that I'm seeing on my device. This issue is also seen on many other devices from tablets to the nexus one. I seem to be one of the only few that's seeing it on the Evo, and the general community doesn't have enough knowledge to assist. I'm hoping someone will know some ideas to try from a cooking standpoint to see if I can fix this for my particular situation and maybe help out the others that are grasping for a fix from Google and aren't getting one.
In my situation, ADB ONLY works on the initial base release of FroYo from Sprint with regards to HTC Sense-based roms. When Sprint released their second updated base, 3.28.651.1, ADB was/is broken. I can get ADB to work in Recovery as well as ANY AOSP rom, so I'm thinking the culprit might be the Kernel (g3a8614e and onwards) and/or the base version.
USB Debugging does not work because the ADBD process is not running. See this Google bug for what the Nexus users are seeing:

I'm very knowledgeable, and have tried so many rom and kernel combos it's disgusting YES, I've turned on USB Debugging. the ADBD process does not run, and throws a segmentation fault whenever you try to start it. I've checked my properties file to make sure the service.persist is enabled, yada yada.
I've torn apart the kernel from that initial release and paired it with a later base. The ADBD process then runs, but ADB still doesn't work. I've also, like other users in that link, have pulled out an ADBD process from the working one, and that also does not work, although it too makes the ADBD process function again inside the ROM.
So my questions are:
Can anyone explain what might be causing the ADBD process to be blocked? There's not much documentation out there on it. What part of the ROM build controls all of that? My initial thought was the boot.img, and I've messed around with that, diff'ing an older working ROM with a newer one to no avail.
Can anyone suggest something to try, or a technique to frankenstein something that might work? I'm an Android dev, and I can't put my in process app on my phone and test it because ADB simply doesn't work. My app uses the camera, so I need my phone instead of the emulator. I'd rather not flash an old rom or AOSP rom, because I'm really trying to figure out what's going on!!!

OK, one day I was able to open a Genymotion device, but later that day I wasn't. Reason?
When I opened a terminal (using CrunchBang Waldorf) and ran Genymotion, it would work fine, but then when I booted a Samsung Galaxy S4 4.3 , it would bring up the device fine, but it would get stuck on that "Android" screen, with the light going across.
I waited for a few hours, only to come back to the same message. I would open up the .Genymobile/genymotion-player.log using cat in terminal. The results?
[Genymotion Player] [Debug] Output command: "0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...70%...80%...90%...100%"
At the end, not very helpful to me. So I tried running it through VirtualBox, giving me "untracked pid exited ____" with a number 100+ in the ____.
I'm totally confused, because other devices work fine, including SGS4 4.2.2, but SGS4 4.3 doesn't work. Please help, and please explain in noob language, I'm not very proficient with this! :laugh:

I have never used genymotion .... But all ask this question... Do you have to have sdk manager installed to use it? If so, is it up to date? Make sure you have the latest version of everything. Sounds like it's 4.3 that's not working so maybe that's it. (I'm guessing)

Thank you for the reply. It was not specified to have SDK Manager installed. I have tried installing the latest version of Genymotion, but because Debian doesn't have the required version of (e)glibc, I'm unable to install it. The odd thing is that it stopped working abruptly, with no change on my part .

I was able to install it and run a 4.3 emulator on my computer. Last night was the 1st chance I've had to mess with it though. I'm on windows7 though so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Just curious, do you just open Genymotion, or do you open something that came with it? I believe it came with Genymotion shell and Oracle vm virtual box. I only open Genymotion and I have no trouble.

Might be a bit late in responding.
Is virtualization enabled from BIOS, otherwise CPU would be forced to 1 core only and would take long time to load, I had this issue however, playing a bit with the RAm (lowering it ) sorted the problem.
with 1 core the Emulator becomes slow.
Did you try to check the logcat? It should say something.
Also Genymotion using OpenGL, so there might be some problems with your video card

I am a total newbie with mobile technologies, but know my way around a linux-box alright.
I just got a Samsung Rugby Pro through an upgrade at ATT.
My goal is to run Ubuntu touch as my main OS. I know some people think this is a silly aim, but its my money, so for the sake of simplicity, can we just agree that it is a goal?
I have been doing every backflip I can find to root this thing. Or flash it. Or do whatever is necessary to enable fastboot via the linux terminal.
The adb install I have works just fine (i.e. it detects, can restart it, etc). I have tried messing with the 51/71/99 android.rules in udev many, many times. Fastboot will not recognize the device. I have loaded the device into the bootloader screen various ways (via adb, via volumedown+home+power before and after plugging it in) ; no luck.
I figured it may be because the phone isn't rooted. This has led for my current root quest.
Using linux, and not having current access to any other OS's, I haven't been able to use Odin, or any of the other (likely scan) knock-offs. I have heimdall installed, and for the bloody life of me, though it says its working, even when the phone is in boot-loader, it doesn't do anything once the b*stard restarts.
I have tried downloading what feels like a hundered update.zip scrips, cwm.zip's...etc, etc. No luck! Whenever I try to install the update from the SD, it says there is an error in verification. As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to do it during normal operation; not that that would particularly help.
I have also tried a zRoot application, and a host of others...most of which all require root access?
Perhaps this is a simple deficiency in my understanding of this whole process, but there seems to be a bit of a loop of which one is needed first; root or cwm. I am spinning round and round; my cat is looking at my chain smoking funny and my gf says I stink.
So here I come to you all. How the hell's this done? If anyone has successfully rooted the Rugby pro on linux, I would be eternally greatful for the help. If you know how to go all the way to ubuntu-touch, you will have a cat and a lovely lady also eternally greatful.

Hey guys and gals, this may sound like an eye rollingly noobish post but honestly ive never had more trouble rooting an android device in my life! so I just got one of these:

youve probably seen them floating around Aliexpress and the like, not a bad tablet but should go for less than $100 due to build quality, but moving on,
so its a Mediatek MT6580 chipset and the model is BXMC-K107
ive been trying to root this thing all day, I managed to unlock the bootloader with adb, however any attempt to root with any of the programs like kingroot, root genius, iroot etc have all failed, absolutely no luck with any of them, i tried the manual root method but couldnt get nautilus to work with my VM ubuntu install through virtual box, I will try again with a proper installed linux distro rather than vm but I cant see it making much difference.
I also used the main program people use for Mediatek devices (MTK droid tool) however when I open it, I get this error after it reads the tablet:
