I work at a branch of BASF (chemical plant) and we have these lists of things that need to be checked regularly .. (valves and their state (open or closed), values for temperature, pressure, ...)
I was wondering if it would be possible to tag each valve/measurement with a QR code and have a device (tablet, or whatever..) that has a library of these valves/measurements and when a valve's/measurement's QR code gets scanned you could assign an open or closed attribute or a value.
This would make it much easier to get an overview of the entire situation, and would create a standard for the registration (one person does this differently then the next which sometimes leads to miscommunication)
Does anyone have an idea if this would be possible ?
I myself do not have the knowledge to create such an app, but I feel it should be fairly simple for someone who does.
If you can offer me any information on this matter It would mean a lot to me ! thanks in advance !

Hi all
I am developing an app in which I would like to allow user-generated content. Specifically, this will be a remote control application, and I would like people to be able to add custom layouts, capable of sending "events" through the app, but I am not sure how to do so.
There are a couple of ways I have been looking at. The first is using a WebView so that this content can be developed in HTML. This would be nice and easy from their point of view, but it does have it's downsides, especially where security is concerned. If I was to do this, I would want to bind a "send" Javascript interface to my app, but disallow any other Javascript (I do not, for example, want it to be able to relay the button presses to some other place). I'm not sure exactly how I could do this.
The second way I can see would be to use an XML file and build up the layout from that. Here, the only way I could see it to parse the XML file and programatically build the layout. This seems a lot of work, and I would rather avoid that.
A third way would be to import a layout purely as an image plus an XML file describing hot-spots for triggering events. This seems to have too many limitations.
The final option is to expose an interface to other apps, and allow users to build separate applications which hook in to provide these layouts. This seems a terrible approach for such a simple objective.
So, does anyone know of a simple way to do what I am after, or any comments on the options listed above? Has anyone done anything similar, or know of an open-source project which acheives something similar?
Thanks in advance
Hey guys,
I'm really new to this app development and would like to ask one of you experienced developers a question.
Basically I have recently been creating mobile websites from a set of css files which are just a basic template. The template files have individual files for some of the most common pages that a small business would need, google map, contact us with form, menu, opening hours and so on.
What happens is you simply upload the company logo and such into the images folder, update the css style sheet for colours, then simply edit one of the relevant pages e.g place the food items in the menu page.
When the whole set of files gets uploaded it creates a personalised functional business mobile website.
What I would like to know is, would it be possible to set something like this up for an android app? Whereby the user could simply change the details as above and then compile the apk file which will create the app?
Your input is much appreciated, also have any of you got any idea where I could get someone to code something like this?
Regards,
Stephen
Hello together,
I`m writing currently my master thesis with the topic "Context Simulator For Mobile Business Application". The goal is, to test how an Android application reacts during changing context conditions: How reacts an application, if the battery is almost empty? How reacts an application, if internet connection breaks down during data transmission? How reacts an application, if a SD-Card is available/not available? ...
I want to simulate all of these factors on the PC and send the data to my android device. Some more examples:
- Simulating sensor data for accelerometer, gyroscope, ...
- GPS
- Camera and microphone (if an application requests a camera image, it should receive a image from my simulator)
- Fake connection for Wi-Fi, HDSPA, EDGE
- Fake time, time zone and date
- Simulate a specific battery level
- Fake calendar entries
------------------ My approaches ------------------
No 1:
Extend an existing custom rom with my features => Some calls should not transfer to OS (example: GPS) but to my simulator on PC. Also send data (example: battery level) to android OS. For example to pretend a low battery level.
No 2:
Write my own sandbox application (I haven`t found information to this topic so far). In this sandbox application, I`m going to start my application to test. So it is possible, to fetch all request from this System under test and I can decide if I want to transfer them to Android OS or to my simulator.
No 3:
Develop my own library, which will be included from my system under test. This library extends some android classes (e.g. Activity, Location Manager, Sensor Manager). My extensions classes will transmit the request to my simulator instead to the OS.
I`m afraid, I only have limited functionalities when I`m using this approach.
No 4:
Take sensor simulator from open intents as basic and extend it as good as possible.
-------- About Me --------
I only have few experience in Android development, but a lot experience in Java development. I know, I should read now a lot about custom roms, ... Unfortunately this thesis should be finish at the end of march.
------- What I want from you -------
Advice. I hope you understand my problem. Which is the best way to realize this project? I would like to have as much functionalities as possible. My prototype doesn`t need to support all context factors, but I should consider all factors in my system design.
I wanted to attached two graphics, but unfortunately I`m not allowed to. These are two possibilities and I`m not sure, which one is better (and also, if they are possible):

Does anyone know if there is a Guide/CheatSheet for Security Testing Apps on Android?
I am a software tester and whilst I know my way around security testing for the web, I'm looking for a jump start in Security Testing for Android. Just the basics really, things like how to manipulate text fields, cause buffer overruns etc in Apps.
An example case would be an app which we are developing that allows a user to input free text. I want to be able to prove the point that we need to sanitise the user's input here, so ideally, I'd like to know of a string that I can enter, which will cause an undesired effect on the page which displays the user's input.
eg, In a web page, I enter "<IMG SRC=javascript:alert('Sanitise User Input')>" and an alert is fired on displaying that input.
Like I say, I know my way around this type of thing for the web, but I'm not an Android Dev and I don't know how to manipulate the code with my input.
So, Does anyone have any pointers/source of info/ideas?
Thanks Folks,
Noodoo

Hello guys, this is my first post here in the forum and i'm looking for a very specific answer, hope you can help me.
So I had this idea for an app that could really optimize the way people work here @ my workplace, but the thing is: i know nothing about programming and development
The question is: how hard would it be/how long would it take for a complete newbie to develop this app? (description below).
It consists basically in a scheduler & task assignment app. It must be able to:
Register two kinds off app users: workers/schedulers (WS) and schedulers only (SO).
Create WS subgroups (something like tags or flags so tasks can be assigned to a specific subgroup of WS').
Allow WS to create their own daily schedule and share it with all schedulers.
Allow SO to have access to all WS' schedules and fill them remotely.
Allow SO to auto-assign tasks to the nearest availabe WS of an specific subgroup.
Allow both WS and SO to see wich tasks were assigned by each one.
This is the main idea, of course there are some minor changes and details that I need to add, but this is enough to get the main idea.
Waiting for an answer, thank you in advance.
