Hi,
Is there a way to disable the nagging OTA notification (every 4 hours) on an unrooted, locked stock phone? I already tried to download the update, then delete it, but after a few days it always comes back. It's really annoying.
No. If u r rooted, u can freeze it via titanium backup

Hi all,
My AT&T Atrix is running 4.5.91. I unrooted it to update to 4.5.141 OTA (I understood it was risky to do an OTA update while rooted).
After I finished downloading the update, I started installing but during installation, the package icon changed to a warning icon (with no error message) and the phone rebooted on 4.5.91 with a message saying the update failed
I think the package may have been corrupted in the download as it was interrupted. Although, I did try this 3 times (redownloading each time)
Any tips?
Thanks
You must have frozen and/or deleted some Blur apps as well as being rooted. Unless you have all the stock files from the firmware you are updating from, the install will fail.
I have unrooted the phone
However, I did use the "integrate system apps updates into ROM" option on TB.
I did not freeze anything
Will this work:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Atrix+Upgrade/Atrix-Gingerbread-Update
If not, what must I do?
Edit: Oh, and I also have AdFree installed and enabled. Should I revert?

The sd card method will fail for you as well. Undo everything that required root access, including adfree...not sure if it will restore the modified files back to stock though, never used that app.
Exactly what happened to me. Successfully updated using Motorola Software Update
Hi
You have succeeded?
I am stuck for months trying to do this update...
It's absolutely frustrating...
I actually stopped trying. I got a RAZR a few weeks after I started this thread...
I might unlock the BL and install some ROMs to play with the Atrix but basically I don't use it anymore...
Anyway, I think the problem I was having was because I integrated updates into the ROM and I don't think it can be undone
Bootloader Unlocked?
If your bootloader is unlocked the update will most likely not work. Regardless, the link below has some useful information.

I have my Razr Maxx updated to System 6.12.173 Android Version 2.3.6
and I dont want it updated further.
Is there a way to block/stop OTA updates?
Is there a way to block/stop the update notifications as well?
It won't auto update. You have to press download and install everytime there is any OTA.

I'd like to block the notifications regarding the updates as well.
They are annoying to keep getting.
If you have custom recovery, it won't update. I pulled update manually. Installation failed, and no more notification, even after reboot. You can go in there with Root Toolbox and freeze updater, but it's not necessary.
You should have bought eastern european Razr )) We are still on 2.3.5.
No updates what so ever.
Just joking.

i'm surprised this question didn't get a lot more responses, since I have a HTC Design and stumbled across this thread and I'm wondering the same thing. I'm not gonna take a new OTA update when ppl have reported loss of root...so does anyone wanna non-jokingly answer this yet? lol.
PS: all i did was go to Titanium Backup and scroll all the way down to "Updater _____". Back that up, and delete it if you want (freeze it if you have PRO version). Especially if you're rooted and have a custom ROM on it, you won't need it.
I'm currently running the stock VRALJB ROM, but do have it rooted, unlocked bootloader, CWM, and custom Kernel installed.
Yesterday when the VRALL4 OTA message popped up, it had an option to Defer or Reject. But tonight it only had the option to Defer, and made me select a date and time (limited within 5 day) to install the update.
Is there a way to permanently put the OTA update off? I really don't want it installed and loose root/unlocked status.
EDIT:
I saw in another thread to remove the SDM app, so I uninstalled it with ROM Toolbox, since Titanium Backup wouldn't let me unless I updated to the Pro version. Now when I click on Software Update, it just sits there for a few seconds and then says Settings has stopped, and goes back to the home screen.
Good when you click software update it should force close. You're safe now.

Hey guys,
I was gone for a bit and came tonight in the hopes of rooting my phone finally. I was pretty disappointed when I realized that because Im on MI1 I cant really do much (I guess you could maybe flash to Me7 and then flash a rom). I had rooted my phone a while back but then with the OTA updates I had to reroot a few weeks ago. One thing I have noticed is lately my phone keeps downloading and attempting to install an update from Verizon or Samsung but then just says an error occured and nothing was done to my phone. Does anyone know what this is or how I could stop it from occuring every night? Each time it fails it asks me to set a new time to try again.
*Edit*
It fails updating the software from Mi1 to mj7
Chris
If you want to stop OTA update notifications, use Titanium Backup and freeze FWUpdate and SDM. Just remember you'll need to unfreeze them if you want to manually check for software updates.
Running latest Pixel Experience w/ root right now and was wondering about OTAs.
When updating, is there anything I need to do with root or can I just run the OTA normally and update?
Last time I ran an OTA update w/ root, my phone would restart randomly sometimes during usage and I couldn't figure out why so I reflashed everything and it hasn't happened since.
Leads me to asking whether updating while still rooted messed with the phone in some way. So yeah, do I need to unroot before running the OTA or do I unroot and then OTA and then reroot?
(Also, if I need to unroot, how do I do that? Have only ever rooted phones, never had to unroot one.)
