So since there's only about 5 or 6 custom ROM's at the moment I took the liberty of creating a quick site to compare the ROM's. I put them in a comparison table side-by-side, put a link to download them (off my own site [so this can be used as a mirror]) and put a link to my own personal thoughts/semi-informal review of each ROM and included screen-shots of the ROM (90% of it I took myself).
I wanted to share the link/site with you to see what you think. I'm going to try and stay on top of updates and such, and each page on the site has a way for you to leave a comment. So if you have any suggestions or problems, feel free to comment there (or here). Also, if you want to submit your own review, thoughts, suggestions, etc. the site has a way for you to post it and I can look it over and publish it. I'd love for this not to be a one man show. If you have extensive experience with one of the ROM's and want to throw in your own review, post it there and I'll make it live and link to it in the comparison table.
I know I'm going to get blasted, told how stupid and useless the site is, etc. etc. and I'm prepared for that, but maybe you could also include a quick note on why it's stupid, what I need to add, how better to improve it, etc. you know, constructive criticism. I do know it's ugly and using a crappy default skin, but I was more concerned on getting content in there right now vs the look and feel of the actual thing; I'll get around to it, eventually. Anyways, I'm only trying to help.

Thank you, this is very helpful to a newcomer to Android. I'll try to find time to read through the reviews, as I want to find the right ROM without the hassle of flashing each one (but I guess you'll never know which one works best for you unless you try it...). The comparison table helps a lot.
Nice compilation! Was worth a read! Thanks for gathering all these into one
This is awesome! Many thanks. I had asked to setup something similar a while back with all the Galaxy Tab ROMs. Never took off. I can definitely see that this could take a bit of work keeping it current. Hopefully folks will help out in that area.
i like the work u did...
Thanks for this! Really helpful to new guys.
Serendipity is at 8.1; added the file to the server, updated the Download link and included his changes in the table. It's all good.
i dont think that site is stupid at all. I think it'll help a lot of the newbies but that takes a lot of work to update. As long as it stays updated, I dont see how anyone can say that its a bad idea.
One issue that the devs MIGHT have is that you saved their ROMs and update files to your own server. I know some devs dont like that (at least some on the captivate section didn't) but maybe thats different, here.
Really nice to see all the listed items in there, I know it would be hard to list them all but but maybe point out in the CM7 section more (if not including all seperately) the Modifications, Theme Chooser, Etc. that are built into CM7 by design without the need for more apps, rom tweaks. Also note that the CM7 camera does not have the same options as stock and how the video recording rate is not the 30 fps as with the stock roms. I am trying to be impartial here but thought I would note that looking at your site would make some think CM7 didn't have much to it, when in fact it has many options and setting built in that are not available to stock roms or how stock roms would need some other changes to get things to work the same. On another note the ONLY downfall I see with CM7 is the contact searching would be nicer to have a letter on the side.of the screen like stock does so I don't have to scroll all the way down to find a contact and would be nice to have speed dial working without another app from the market.
Just trying to point out a few plus's and minuses of CM7 to help you add to your great comparison site.

Nice work -- the only suggestion I would make is that UnNamed's section is huge compared to the others - so unless you are specifically recommending that one, you may want to equalize the columns.
But other than that -- I think a very helpful resource for folks who are new to the phone looking to get a quick comparison of which ROM to try first!
@RockRatt can I use some of your wording in my review? I'll update my CM7 section/review but you wrote a lot of nice ideas.

Of course you can. I am just trying to help out so others can see all the different roms in a somewhat even light as to function and features. I know it is/will be a work in progress and it is looking good.

Take it easy? We aren't being harsh. There was no point in posting before you had a link other then try and get attention for yourself. It was pointless and as to saving time he could have typed it up using preview and then saved it on to his computer. We were just pointing out that he didn't need to post it yet, and it doesn't really make sense too. If he had wanted to get feedback and ask for opinions then maybe he should post something in general.

I have already got a link, its just my Dev-Host account got suspended for too much bandwidth usage :/
I am working on getting this resolved via contacting Dev-Host on twitter, they seem to have an IP Block on me for some reason, hopefully will be resolved shortly.
@WadeGeek, this wasn't a silly attempt to get attention, maybe you should get to know what people are like before you start making wild allegations.
To the others i am working to get this resolved and sorry for the delay, i wrote the OP when i was uploading the file last night, however the link failed.
I would upload to another site but DevHost usually works well and allows me to keep track of how many DL's etc.
What has less of a point, setting a place aside for a future link or posting to complain about it?
Either way to argue about it is pointless, it is the op's thread to do as he likes. If people take issue with it take it to the mods. Personally I think it is pretty ****ty that both of his threads have less than friendly post on the first page when all he is trying to do is learn how to develop and share his work
My two cents
Version 1
OK, so version 1 is up and my account is unblocked so its downloadable.
Please give em your opinions and requests and this will make it much easier and quicker for me to iron any issues out
I had to re-upload the file :/ but its thee now SORRY FOR THE DELAYS

LOL!!!
Op says there's sense in the rom, others say there's no sense in this thread and you say your 2 cents
Firstly I must give the statutory warning that I am not responsible for - Bricking - Cracking - Banging - Smashing - Licking your device. All animations have been tested by me on my A2017U but this does not guarantee that they will work on your device.
All animations I post will be in flashable zip form so there is no need to sort out where to put it or what permissions to give it, all is taken care of by the zip file. One cautionary note, if you want to preserve the standard Axon animation then before flashing you must go into /system/media and change the name of the existing animation because otherwise the new one will overwrite it.
Each animation I post will be accompanied by a GIF file which will give you an idea of what the animation looks like, the names will be the same apart from the extension, this should make it easier see which is which.
Remember these are flashable zips to be flashed by your custom recovery i.e. TWRP.
One last caution, although I will only post animations I have successfully flashed to my own device this does not mean I am responsible if anything happens to yours. If people find them useful I will make more as and when I have the time.
Ok here is another one, the second Andy one. No need to repeat all the blah, blah, blah of the first post, it all still applies. Apart from new ones I make I will also be converting some I made for the Moto X Pure.
OK last one for now. Post #1 cautions apply.

Do you know if there are any limitations to these animations? Max and lowest resolution? Duration? DPI?

@trasheris ... Thanks for the questions. I find that it is largely a matter of personal preference as to how you construct an animation.
Personally I find that size is generally my main consideration, I detest animations that exceed 5 Mbs in size, I feel that it's unnecessary to clog up a system with something that is only "window dressing". I'll try and give you my answers point by point.
1. Resolution depends on weighing clarity on one hand with size on the other.
2. Duration depends on the device. The A7 for example has the shortest time available to display of any device I have ever owned, so you have to make your animation duration fit your device. Remember the time is set by the device it's not going to wait to boot until your saga of an animation ends.
3. DPI has nothing to do with boot animations.
Get your series of jpg's use a graphics adjustment program to make them the size you need, use a graphics program to determine the resolution quality then build your animation.

Another two. Post #1 applies as usual.

It's really absurd to see people happy with the arrive of GSI roms that doesn't feature Moto mod support. I've tried some roms and the obvious result is that non of it let you use any mod so, ¿Is there any chance that developers build a ron or a module that let Moto mods work in GSI?
I agree, it's very annoying, there is even a super detailed guide on how to implement it on XDA somewhere. It has been accomplished already for all main mods, including JBL. (Maybe version 2)?
I tried bringing this guide to the attention of devs and got in **** for posting it in the development section so devs could see it lol
At least the battery mod will still charge the phone in recovery mode our little secret lol.
Well, at least we have Pie ROMs. And I don't know how compatible the Mods framework is with GSI. @MusicAlleyInc and you where already told that most devs wont do that since that can break too much stuff on the way and none are willing to go through the hassels just to satisfy a hand full of people actually using modules

Many people use Turbopower, and JBL.
Those are referenced over and over.
Most times, Turbopower works but efficiency mode does not.
JBL often works without volume control.
These Roms are all using the same basic foundation.

As I said: there is a tutorial which describes how to do this PROPERLY, without breaking anything, maybe a few things in the mods not working yet, but not breaking other things.
It has been done, can be done, and obviously can be done if Motorola can do it in the first place.
And as noted, many people do use mods. That is why any intelligent person would have bought this phone. It's not to satisfy a handful of people, it's to have our phones work as they are meant to work.

There is also a difference between competence and incompetence. The main mods used >already< work without issues except for the JBL mod, which is only an issue because of some proprietary code or driver or something.
But who the hell cares, that is what Bluetooth speakers are for.
All most people really care about is the battery mod and projector. Exclusive features like that without any simple/efficient alternatives.
These mods have worked stable in many custom ROMS when a little extra effort was made to make something competent. The only reason they are not working in Pie ROMS is because GSI's are universal and don't have them implemented in their base as they have been in past custom ROMS which were made FOR THIS PHONE...

Neither did I claim to know so much, I simply shared what I found.. an observation, do you gather?
It's not cool twisting peoples words to try to make them look bad.
Why would I build a ROM that supports most mods: when it has been done, that makes no sense...
Neither does the attitude I have received while trying to relay this information to devs for the benefit of the entire Moto Z2 play community.
I am not a DEV, perhaps that is another reason why I don't build my own ROM.

By the very definition of competence, building something that doesn't fully work is technically incompetence IN REGARDS TO THIS SUBJECT MATTER.
Especially when it has been already achieved to some degree. I am not complaining, nor did i say "fully" either. I am highlighting this fact and this fact only, do you have an issue with facts, or just a problem with pretense?

Maybe you need to understand the concept of progress and a constructive attitude.
Calling it whining is literally just making things personal, and totally unnecessary.
You insist on trying to dictate my intention as negative, your problem, not mine.
The thing is that GSI roms are generic, I know. But I have not seen any developments in Android P working around the mod support, ¿There's no possible way to build a module that let the users use turbo power mod in GSI? We have a great phone with a great power mod and we can't use it. For me is absurd to use GSI if I cannot get the most out of it
"Then, just maybe, you should leave those topics to people who actually ARE implementing this the same way the guy in the link I posted did....?"
But yet everyone is so fast to tell me nobody is and that nobody IS or has much interested in replicating his work, hmmm.

Dude, please cease and desist and stop twisting things out of context. You are pretentiously whining about me sharing important information and expecting ROMS made for this phone to make use of something that allows mods to work for this phone. Give it a rest.
And that post was totally soiled by someone with an attitude similar to your own, the reason I broke forum rules was for citing blatent ignorance as ignorance. Yeah, ask me how bad I feel about that.

What's your problem? I didn't call every ROM developer incompetent, I was actually highlighting the competence of ones who achieved mod compatibility.

That very developer removed mods support to improve the stability and performance of the Rom. And don't try to teach the developers how to create a ROM , we have only one left.

So the same guy who claims he got these mods working stable and was promoting other people used what he learned, removes his work from his ROM because it makes it perform worse?
How does it impact performance? I have run at least 3 or 4 ROM with projector and turbo pack support that were absolutely fine and stable.
Also: it's fairly obvious this dude was the one trying to teach developers how to integrate mod support into their ROM, not me.
