[Q] failure to mount /data - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
After having some problems with my phone, I decided to do a soft reset via recovery and wiped cache partition. Ever since my phone is stuck in Galaxy opening pic (whatever it's called - showing the phone model).
I tried to do factory reset and it failed saying failure to mount /data, so I reloaded my firmware using Odin (as I did several times before) but the problem hasn't been solved.
I can access recovery but not the rom, and if I try to do factory reset I still get the same result - failure to mount /data.
I suggestion or explanation to this problem?
Thanks

Find The S5830I Firmware thats been Repacked , its like this ; S5830I_XXXX_XXX_ATO_Repacked.zip. IDK , that one has BootLoader , it should work . Find it in whole S5830 Section.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, since I have another phone I didn't find time to deal with this until now.
I didn't quite understand your answer - what am I suppose to do with the repacked firmware?
In addition, I couldn't find it, which must be because I don't know whats the whole s5830 section means... I have s5830i and I looked in development section and coundn't find it
I would appreciate it if you could guide me a bit further....sorry for the hassle.
Thanks

Perhaps this will solve the problem....
I have just noticed another thing:
When I try to perform factory reset I fail and it says: E: format_volume: rfs format failed on dev/stl11.
cache folrmatting is OK thou
Please if anyone have some helping advice I could really use it...nothing seems to be working

[Q] Bricked Korean Galaxy Player YP-GB70EW

As the title says, I've bricked my korean galaxy player. I have been trying almost everything I could however I haven't managed to recover it yet. I found this thread about manually editing the partition however I seem to have messed it further by attempting to do that. Running CWM gives me a few errors about how it can't mount cache. I've flashed at least 5 different ROMs but all of them get stuck at the bootlogo. >.>
Help me guys.
If it helps, it's the 16GB variant.
Many important "details" are missing in your short explanation.
are you able to "wipe", if yes what is reported on the screen in red letters that will direct to your problem if the partitioning is broken.
you said you have done CWM, what kernel did you use? because no known korean kernel allow it, if you made use of RJ' one it will not boot the GB70 ((UNFORTUNATLY!!!).
last point did you "touch" the PIT? or try to do so?
please stop doing thing without real knowledge; I can say that because I paid to know it?
be patient

[Q] S2 hangs at logo pls help me

Hi,
My Friend brought new s2 GT-I9100 for me.
I downloaded India firmware (GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWKE8_I9100DDKE2_I9100ODDKE2.tar) into that from that time it got hanged at logo.
After that I downloaded UK vodafone firmware same problem (I9100BULPG_I9100VODLPB_VOD). Badly I Selected re-partion and given .Pit file also.(u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit)
Wipe data/factory reset also not working ...
Please help me to resolve the problem. More details given below.
Model: GT-9100
SSn:I9100GSMH
FCCID: A3LGT9100
IMEI:359372/04/737835/1
S/N: RVUBB78992H.
And please suggest me suitable firmware.
Sorry for my bad English
So basically you know nothing about rooting/android and you ticked re-partioning whilst flashing with Odin? I suggest you return the phone and get a new one and don't much around with it because the process to fix your phone now is really awkward (if it's even possible).

If you have recovery working, then yea try flashing a proper ROM. If not then there's odin go back to stock and start over.
those all sounds like the right process, but I'm not telling you what to install on a phone I'm not 100% familiar with. You know you're being lazy but yet continue to, and then wonder why won't we won't help you, it's not cause we don't want to cause of your laziness, it's cause we don't want to be the blame for your phone no longer working.

sounds right but leave auto reboot unchecked. And yes 900 isn't that big must roms are about that size give or take. hard to say though since were not familiar with the stock ROM for that device. Just make sure you check the md5 sum first so you know it's a good file. Also make sure you get your ROM from the proper source ie your models forum or equivalent don't just grab it from anywhere on the internet...
Hey, i don't want to open another thread just for a little question so i put it here D:

[Q] S3 won't load after boot screen

Hi guys.
My S3 started having problems yesterday night and im trying to fix it during this christmas break.
My phone was running out of battery and, after i turned it off to save some juice, it simply won't boot to its original state.
I tried to wipe its cache, i tried to repair it up using Kies and I even downloaded its original firmware in SamMobile and tried to build it using Odin.
It simply wont go further the boot screen.
What can I possibly do before actually giving up on it??
PS:Ive never tried to ROM it. And yeah, sorry for the bad english. Thanks ahead!
Factory reset.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Hi there.
I tried that too and it didnt work.. It simply wont get out of the boot screen
Heres a picture of what happens after i try to factory reset it.
Thanks!
Edit: can't post a picture atm. Anyway, it says that
E:/ Failed to mount /efs (invalid argument), several times.
You've corrupted the efs partition, either when it ran out of battery or during your flashing spree.
Go read the thread 'efs know this stuff' in general, sticky threads.

[Q] Odin fails to flash stock ROM on bricked S5830i

Hello all,
I am a first-time poster on XDA, but I've read loads on this site and want to thank everyone who contributes to it!
I managed to soft brick my S5830i while flashing a dodgy ROM, and am trying to unbrick. I've been trying to do this by flashing stock firmware through Odin, but I'm not having much luck so far. I keep getting write fails. I've used multi-file firmware (through Odin v1.85/v3.07) and single-file (through Odin v3.07). I've re-downloaded several different versions of firmware, and none have worked (i.e. I don't think it's a file error). I've tried with the cooperve .pit file, tried with the bootloader. I've turned off my antivirus. I've taken the SIM and micro SD cards out of my phone (I've tried taking the battery out as well, but then my drivers stop working!). I can boot into download and recovery, otherwise I'm stuck on a boot loop.
Odin has failed a couple of dozen times with different files, and sometimes just times out while initializing.
I feel like I'm running out of options - if anyone has any fresh ideas, I'd be grateful to hear them!
Thanks very much,

I had a go at your instructions. I've wiped the data and cache multiple times as you suggested, but I'd not thought of formatting /system, so I hoped it might work. It didn't - it looks like I can't wipe it... I get an error message:
Formatting /system...
Error mounting /system!
Skipping format...
Done
I remember having problems mounting /system because of the ROM which bricked my phone in the first place! Maybe that's the problem? Any thoughts on how to get round it?

Thanks again,
In case it helps anyone else following these instructions, I found the tool. Search for "multiformatter" [note spelling]. The thread is number 2012003 and is called "[TOOL] Multi Formatter [EXT4 to RFS vice versa]" - go to page 6 as Hitesh said.
Okay, so I got the tool, flashed it on my phone, formatted everything to RFS. Once it finished I went into download mode, and tried flashing stock... still no luck! I've tried different files, different versions of Odin, different USB ports and it always gets stuck at initializing and hangs.
Any thoughts? I'm really grateful for the help so far.

Just to get closure on this thread,
I continued trying everything I could to flash different versions of firmware through Odin. It was a big help to format the system in RFS, so thanks for pointing that out. After that fix, Odin was still unable to communicate with my device... but after realising that the underlying problem was now dealt with, I moved on to flashing through CWM. I didn't manage to get anything done with Odin - might be my (only!) USB cable, or my USB ports, or any of the other millions things that could go wrong with it. But I successfully flashed AndroidScream in recovery and am up and running.
Thanks again Hitesh, and also to the whole XDA community!

Hi
I am having the same problem with odin (3.7 and 1.84), its just not flashing the stock roms. I am running out of ideas and getting desperate. When you say you "formatted the system in RFS" do you mean you factory wiped your phone? If that is the case then no luck for me

A Galaxy Ace Plus is not the equivalent of GT-S5830i. They most probably don't have the same chipset either, so DON'T TRY FLASHING GT-S5830i STUFF ON YOUR GT-S7500.
Instead, seek help on the relevant forums, and Google is also your friend.

Above all, do you have the Samsung USB drivers installed?
For CWM, there is a flashable temporary CWM, and several custom kernels already have CWM as the default recovery.
