Anyone Notice any performances differences between any Generic or Branded FTF ?
The Vodafone UK one seems a bit laggy with the home button and other small things while Vodafone IE is fine.
Anyone Run a specific Carrier Branded firmware on there D6503?
Wouldnt if anything the carrier branded be more stable and generic as they would have a larger base?
Thanks
There are 0 performance changed across all the FTFs ive ever used
Branded or not theyve all shown the same benchmarks and statistics after flashing (not identicle but 42k every time within a few hundred)

Wasnt really asking for benchmarks They dont mean much to me its how the firmware feels, Like I said the Vodaphone UK firmware I have performance issues with it.

Some brands which clutter more apps do seem to feel slower
Unbranded ones should be the fastest due to less bloatware, RU fws feel the fastest due to least bloatware

Is there really a big difference to speed, battery life etc? Sometimes I think with all the flashing there really is no difference and just pure placebo lol
Can anyone attest to real life performance increase? Does this phone have issues that are resolved with custom roms?
Thinking of getting this phone.
Thanks!

This phone is amazing with a nice custom ROM , OCed & Underclocked .
It reach's +4000 in quadrant .
First you need to ROOT it .
Root aside, I am talking about custom roms and real life day to day performance increase.
Quadrant scores and other benchmarks are not really useful because they can easily be "cheated" or tinkered to give a better score.
The first time I flashed a custom rom was with my N1 and speed and battery was noticeably much better. I was on stock for almost two months and the difference was amazing. I dunno with other users but with my NS i can't really tell a difference with stock and custom, that's why I am curious with the SGS2. I believe some people just flash custom roms or even make custom roms just to satiate their craving to do so Not that it's bad though
I'd say no - you can do all these things, obviously, but I wouldn't say you had to in order to have a good phone in your hand.
Mine is KE7 unbranded out of the box and I'm completely happy with it unrooted & unflashed etc. Getting at least 20 hours per charge and no real issues to report. Yes, some people have niggles they want to solve but not all models/releases/versions of the SGSII seem to have them.
Get one, run it for a bit as it is then decide later on whether to fiddle with it and how much. It's a no-lose deal!
All depends how far you want to push the lump of plastic in your pocket, I guess!
Not a great deal of difference as of yet custom roms only a few weeks old as is the phone .

This is exactly what I was thinking! But if you see the descriptions on the custom roms you'd think this phone would be able to bring you to hell and back! lol
This lifestyle of our's (flashing roms and all) can be really addicting and a waste of time and I really believe there's nothing really different about performance. Features yes but performance no. Maybe on the old SGS and N1 performance was highlighted with custom roms but with these newer phones I doubt.
Well I guess one reason to use a custom rom is to take out the beep whenever the battery is charged lol
I am on GB 2.3.7 MIUI, i've seen ICS is out 4.03 and 4.04 but i really dont like the GUI in it, maybe i am used to GB.
I see lots of people complaining on battery and speed of the rom, what are the benefits of ICS compared to GB in real world experience?

ICS going to be a big flop show for google They might release next version earlier
I have been running ICS for a couple of months now and I went back to gingerbread for a couple of days last week to see if I noticed any difference. I have to say ICS is a lot smoother with everything, and a lot faster say with rendering a web page than gingerbread was. I also just couldn't believe how basic and childish gingerbread looked. I will admit the new ICS scrolling mechanism got some getting used it but now I actually prefer it over gingerbread scrolling. Overall I feel that ICS is considerably faster, especially with web browsing, and a huge amount smoother thanks to it's hardware acceleration. I would strongly recommend that you move to ICS, it really does feel like I have a new phone especially running cm9. I hope this helps you
Yet apart from the stock browser i feel ICS is a childish blue upgrade to GB and i dont actually find it or any of the ICS custom roms faster or anything and certainly no improvement over my current set-up .

You have to wait for a few more weeks, you do know that it is a major upgrade and not like froyo to gb . So it does take time to optimize and stabilize the roms .

Essential that is usually true of all firmware but i am not impressed with Samsung's version of ICS so far .
What is under the bonnet may be fine but the bodywork is as ugly as hell .
It all boils down to will i get any advantage with an update answer is so far no and i have tested every version released only to go back each time .Of course when JKay etc is up and running i may look again .

9100G on GB hangs daily, mine does freezing on camera use, download from market, during calls, on reboot due to media scanning, activate wifi or switch between 3G and edge. Battery drains to zero in 30 min. It also freeze when idle in pouch. When it freezes it becomes hot. Quite unusable as a phone not knowing any battery left unless i check it every 30 min. My LG Optimus is 1000times more stable. Now with ICS, it feels like a normal phone. No freeze for past 4 days, downloads. I'm not buying Samsung anymore once this S2 outlive its lifespan. Htc, ate, huawei, lg, or any Chinese brands. Six months before ICS stabilizes it. Now no complains except ram reduced from 1gb to 687mb after upgrade!
That rant is hardly typical of the other 19.999 Million SGS2 owners.
I think you need a dose of introspect.
Hey Guys,
Over in the development section, there is a number of different region firmwares (6.0.A.3.73). I've read a few posts where the poster claims the Norway version is best. I'm wondering whether anybody knows which one is the best? Or is there no difference?
There's some minor differences in preinstalled apps, but almost nothing in the framework, etc.
I was going to ask the same question. I'm on the sg one and I am a very heavy user but I still need to charge my phone everyday
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
There are no differences in battery drain between different customizations.
My experience is that .73 did improved slightly on battery life.
The issue of most up to date smart phone is battery consuming, thus we're not required much for 2 or 3 days.
IMO if it can stands for 1 working day with heavy use is enough, then we can charge it at night is fair.
And with. 73 the battery is just get much better, also you can adjust something with Titanium Backup will help you gain more time + Juice defender or Go Power

I am currently using the SG version while I use to have the HK version. What I have noticed so far is that the virtual keyboard layout is somewhat different between the two. Besides that, I didn't noticed a difference in terms of performance. I thought I'd just put this post out there just in case there is in deed a particular region's firmware performs better.
Well, lets say.. the "best" might be the CE1 because its an European generic, no other junk apps.
Let's not forget that it is only .67.
The .73 Central European would be perfect.

I'm using rooted Central Europe .73
It's very clean and fast. No preinstalled apps like "Astro Explorer", "appXtra...."
in some 73 firmware (i.e. Lebanon) it doesn't have SEA-enabled input methods (i.e. Chinese/Japanese IME)
I am really having a tough time making a decision to which model to choose.. the north american version or the international version.. I live in Canada, the carrier that I am with (Fido) does not support LTE speeds yet. Thats one reason to go with the international version. I know it has a lot better dev support. Quad core seems nice but not a lot of apps are optimized for it if any. I believe it has better battery life than the north american version since it doesn't battery draining LTE. The only thing for me that stands out with the north american version is the 2GB of ram..
Which one do you guys think I should get?
You asked in international forum. So I guess I would recommend i9300

I would think that since Fido does not have LTE network the north american version would run on hspa+ for you. AFAIK the S4 dual core version has better battery life if there is no LTE.
Go with either and you won't regret :good:

Don't you find that 1GB is too little, I was using my friends and a lot is already being used. And I find that applications then to get closed after not using them for a few minutes.. Wouldnt that impact your decision on choosing which model?

It depends on how you use your phone. If you constantly required to do multitasking for more than 4 apps, then 2gb ram will be a better choice. Otherwise, 1gb is more than enough.

Yeah at the same time I don't want to lose on the great dev support... Theres no clear cut decision to this LOL
Dude... just go for one with 2gb ram. There is apparently almost no app that needs all 4 cores of cpu. So dual core is fine.
Btw more ram has better affect on performance than more cores. Also, if there is not enough ram, what will you do with more cores? So just go for American version Although international version is sufficient for me, still i consider American version as better.

But if I go with the american version, I would have to give up on the great dev support for the international version.. CM9 Stable version wasn't even released for the american version.

There is also no app that needs 1GB of RAM. Running lots of apps needs lots of RAM and CPU power,
to the point where it's in terms of battery usage and performance far better to share them across multiple cores
so they don't starve each other to death and cause lags.

That's an inaccurate statement. Without any specifications about what the OP wants to do with the phone, it's impossible to recommend RAM or CPU. Both have trade offs.
However software development seems to be a major point in the decision. From past experiences with carrier-specific devices, development for the international version will by far exceed the carrier-specific one.

I know with my phones I do a lot of heavy multitasking switching frequently between apps. I can tell you I don't plan to play much games. I am opened to try new roms, etc+
I dont think 2gb ram is a big deal, I check my free ram all the time and i never got to use it all, not even close...even when multitasking hard (pause a game and the music, write email and make skype call then back to music and gaming) i have 200mb free at least.
The big thing is, int version will have JB and cm10 before usa version, most of the developers have the int version...

I have owned both. I can tell you the american version is good but as always the international is better. Let me quantify. 4 cores vs 2 we know 9300 kills here. Audio quality isn't a question either 9300 kills. Design minor but 9300 has a much nicer back then the us branded ones again Minor. Dev support go look at the ATT and Tmo forums they are sad places so if you care about that and dev then 9300 wins by landslide. Updates 9300 WILL get updates first, historically this means 2 to 6 months before the rest it may be sooner this time but 9300 will always get official updates first which again feeds into the dev work as well. And the one winning point for the USA versions 2GB of RAM YEAH!! It doesn't do much as has been said before very few users will ever see a benefit from it where as you will benefit from all the above and not just a little
Battery life give me a break guys. It's minor your signal strength will have a far greater effect on the batter life than 9300 vs US variants.

But barely any apps are optimized for quad core... probably in the future. I could honestly say the 2GB of ram will benefit me because while I was using it at the store, I was using a lot of apps, and liked how it didn't close any one of them and kept it in memory instead of the international one closing them... still don't know which to choose..

Well looks like you have an answer then. I think you have convinced yourself no matter what version you get you will be missing out which is kinda true. The other opinion would be it doesn't matter much what version you end up with because they are both killer phone capable of doing anything you want.
I don't think any points have been missed we have outlined all the differences and pro's/con's so now it's a matter of biting the bullet for you

Mine you the 2GB of ram is the only thing that stands out for me for the NA version, I have a few more things that I like with the international version as well. Yes even though barely any apps are optimized for it now, in the future there will be apps optimized for it, making it a future proof phone, it doesn't have any carrier bloatware, its factory unlocked, better development support (CM9 Stable didn't even come out for the US version)

Seriously, what the hell are you like?!
One person says get the international you say "well the US one has x"
Someone else says get the US one and you say "well the international one has y"
You even said that the intl one has a quadcore but nothing is optimised for it yet and the 2gb of ram is better and then in the next comment you say that in the future they will be optimised for it and that's better.
Who are you trying to convince here?

Probably not. Most apps rely on serialized processes in their sourcecode, while multiple cores requires parallel workload.
However, phones are long since past the point where a single task is running on the device at a given time.
Let's say you're surfing the web, with a dedicated Javascript and rendering thread that would be 2 cores. The background music (e.g. DRM-encrypted streaming) runs on the third core while other background processes of the system run on the 4.
This allows a very quick rendering of your webpages without stuttering due to CPU-time revokation, while keeping your music playing and ensuring a general smoothness of the OS.
Again, as I said: it's exactly as with the RAM. No single process will "eat" all the RAM, it's always a combination of several processes.
here in the uk you can buy samsung galaxy s2 for 170.00
but also you can buy phones on websites like aliexpress or geekbuying for roughly the same but are these as good?
in benchmark scores the branded are much higher but can someone explain this more to me
are the non branded as fast doing application as the real ones, like the jiagu series g3,g4
thanks, and any unbranded phones you recommend, mostly use mine for messaging and internet browsing, facebook ect, not a heavy gamer tbh
You can Google to know what is benchmark

I wouldn't personally recommend any unbranded phones Cuz of least ( or no) dev and manufacturer support.
And recently I have heard that they make a Build.prop edit and tell you it has higher specs and Android version while its still running on a crap.
And benchmark is usually used to scale the performance of the device using numbers.
Higher the score, better the performance.
And the same device can have different scores which is because of overclocking or any mods applied and it also depends on various factors like SD card, android version, RAM and stuff.
