It would be pointless because the quality wouldent be as good as it should be
For example:HDR
Hdr is a combination of 3 shots, a low, a high and a medium, 2mp shots are best for this because its no problem processing, 8mp is a struggle and anything above is just a laggy fest with poor results
Sony didnt limit it because they could, its because Z2 cant.

Having these modes are simple and shouldent effect performance
There probably is a mod that exists that enables these modes

Manual focus would also be good when taking pics up real close. My cam will get in focus but the autofocus adjusts it, and its no longer in focus, this only happens up really close...lmk if you find one.

Yes, but it doesn't work at like 4 inches. But the phone is capable of focusing there, because in the middle of the auto focusing its clear for a second, but when it finally "focuses" its out of focus. All of my smart phones have done that.....also sometimes clear water throws off the autofocus.

Cool app, allows a lot of extra settings(like bracketing, so you can manually create HDR thru pc apps or photoshop, better quality) - but still no manual focus(check instructions here http://www.camera.flavionet.com/tutorials/camera_manual.php)
A cool app, but I for one am still wanting to find an app that allows manual focus while still doing high quality - I don't want an app that only takes lower resolution pictures..

I'm just not sure an app like that exists, based on design (of our camera and its image sensor) it seems that a manually focusing camera app would only be imitating the actual function of manual focus.
This option in fv-5 is the closest I've seen yet, though its not even similiar to true MF
" Infinity. Set the focus to infinity. Tapping on the screen always result in focus confirmation and AF is not triggered."

A manual focus app doesn't exist because, simply, the functions to support it do not exist.
Look on developer.android.com and you will only find autofocus functions for adjusting camera focus, like:
public final void autoFocus (Camera.AutoFocusCallback cb)
public final void cancelAutoFocus ()
public void setAutoFocusMoveCallback (Camera.AutoFocusMoveCallback cb)

Probably the only good quality camera they have/can afford. The camera on this phone is better than any digital camera I've bought yet. Lol also, I know after buying this phone, I was broke for awhile. I didn't have an upgrade and bought it out right.
But it is frustrating as hell when I get a picture I want to take, it focuses perfectly on the object, just to auto focus and lose it. Like, ill try and focus on an object, and during the auto focus I see it go clear for a second just to skip over this perfect shot and blur the image instead.

Hi, does anybody know a link to a guide in the different camera modes for xperia s? Like what does portrait, landscape, night portrait, etc does. I want to understand how each mode works cause the camera aint that good especially under low light. Most of the time its blurry.. But under good lighting conditions, the picture i get is just mind blowing. So i want to know the right modes for any scenario to get the most out of the camera. Thanks.

Hi there. Well first of all, I dont know about any guide about making photos on XS. And what you are talking about are scenery modes. Those are made exactly to help the final look of the photo by adding contrast or light to the photo. So if you are taking a photo at night, select the night mode and the photo will be less dark and be better looking. I know that it wont look like those good light photos you can take by the beach cause phone cameras are just made that way...
Oh yeah and also that sport mode is wery usefull! It takes the photo very fast so there will be no blurred objects like a person who is jumping into a pool. Looks good and you can really capture the moment with that mode So, to wrap it up, when you are taking a photo in good light I use the normal mode with multiple objects focus. In low light conditions I use the Scene modes. Hope this helped

To capture fast object, you need fast shutter speed. The thing is when shutter speed is high, less light got into sensor, in a result of darker image. So the camera tend to push the iso level higher which create more noise.

Does this mean that the Xperia has a variable shutter speed? if so are there any apps that can adjust the shutter speed?

At the launch of the device was discussed a lot about the quality of photos taken in 20MP and 8MP where 8Mp said it had more detail and color that pictures taken with 20MP. By way of doubt, I always use to take my 20MP photos. I wonder if it came to a conclusion on which is better?

This is a subtle one, If you zoom in a little the 8MP will look better but if you zoom in more the 20MP will reveal more structure, but if you zoom in still further the details in 20MP will look more blurred. if you look at ISO charts on gsmarena for Z2 you will see this. Text is more clear in 8MP than 20MP.
20mP means bigger prints possible or little more zoom but not too much
pictures of nature. landscapes in 20MP
family in 8MP
family with nature in the background in 8MP as they are the subject
scene mode shots are all 8MP unless you use mods
Where/What is the subject in the shot ? if its in the foreground you can get way with less resolution and it will look better. This is the strategy if you have 4mp HTC one. You must go closer to your subject then zoom is not required.

8MP will be sharper than 20MP but will not allow to zoom as much.
3.5MP will be sharper than 8MP, if no zoom necessary then use 3.5MP for better shot.

it is counter intuitive. The bigger sensor with over sampling helps to make better lower resolution pictures.
The thing is oversampling is only there in auto or scene mode. In manual there is no oversampling at lower resolutions.
I always wonder if there is some over sampling software on pc, if so then you take everything in 20MP and just resize on the pc.

One Twelve, could you explain me what exactly is "oversampling" and what it does?
simple explanation is when there are more pixels it is easier for the software to estimate where the edges are and clean them up and reduce noise so the photo looks sharper when reducing the resolution. What you get is a better approximation. See this post.
But there is a trade off between sharpness over depth of detail with lower resolutions.

This is a resize. Does it oversample though ? that means looking at neighbouring pixels and making a better pixel out of them.
I would recommend 8MP , because of the SCN modes they provide . SCN [sports] will limits the shutter speed to minimum 120fps image , which is clear in high movement scenarios and when images are taken at night .

+1 agree, I use 8mp because of SCN modes, especially Landscapes mode .
One of my few complaints about this camera, is the fact that it's one of the few flagships, if not the only one where we don't have an HDR toggle, and that we have to go to a separate mode to force HDR. Why don't they give us the option to choose whether we want it always on? I'll post few pictures down below that showcase how much better the picture looks with HDR vs not having it on, especially when you zoom in, the difference is night and day.
So, is there a way to force it to always be on? Maybe through ADB, and although it's been years since I rooted any of my phones, I would do it in a heartbeat if there's a way to force HDR to always kick in. A donation for someone who can do this is also on the table.
Again, please take your time in checking the amount of detail and colors HDR is able to grab, especially once the telephoto camera kicks in.
Not that I know of, it is one the things that annoyed me since I started using Huawei with P9 and then Honor View 10 before P30 Pro.

I never get note of this but you are right, i tested the same on my p30 pro and HDR isn't the only thing, images are a lot more sharper on HDR mode when using telelens.

That's because it does automatically use HDR at times, but sometimes when you need it to use HDR, it doesn't, and that's what pisses me off.
What sucks for me is that almost never it uses HDR when shooting in portrait mode, in many instances I end up getting a blown up background when I use portrait mode with a bright light source in the background.
The hardware on this phone is capable of wiping the floor with the Pixel 3, and even their software, it's just that Huawei has been sticking to some dumb choices for years now. All our complaints, and they decide that they don't want to listen to them and do anything about it.
This has been a complaint of mine since the P20 Pro. I do not believe there is a way to force HDR, though I really wish there was!
i think the must put HDR switch on/off in the main camera interface , and the HDR image its a way better then the non HDR image tacking by camera

We want a quick toggle that gives us the option to choose if we want HDR to always be on, auto, or off, just like on almost every other flagship. We don't want separate mode.
Who "we"? It is so simple to choose hdr mode. And if AI is turned on and phone says "keep steady" it means it take hdr shot then.

Oh I'm sorry, did it bother you that I used the term we?
I'm talking in general, there have been tons of forums about this issue with Huawei's camera app, so I'm not the 1st to complain about it, and I definitely won't be the last. And as you can see in this thread, WE as a majority still find it stupid to put HDR as a separate mode and not a quick toggle, kinda like they did with the AI mode before, until they changed it the past few months. Now, if you have no issues with this, good for you, and this forum isn't clearly for you.
And two, I posted images with AI on vs HDR on, and if you can't see the results, then that's on you.
I want this feature too... HDR always ready on Main Camera, HDR+ will be much awesome...
Another app?
Isn't any other camera app for P30 Pro that does a better job?
