[Q] Anyone else experiencing bad lag on games? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 from T-Mobile about 2 weeks ago and everything is great but for one thing, my phone lags really badly in games like Dead Trigger 2 and Real Racing 3. It's not just some lag too it makes Dead Trigger 2 almost completely unplayable, I don't think the phone is thermal throttling because my phone does not get hot and the lag occurs instantly when just starting the game. I've also watched a few videos on YouTube showing the S5(Snapdragon 801) lagging on these games too while the Note 3(Snapdragon 800) was flawless without any lags so I'm really confused, does anyone else have this problem?

First make sure you don't have power save on or something obvious like that.
Then check memory, If memory is low, reboot the phone, go into settings /application manager, click on every program you can recognize and don't use ATM and force stop. Things like games and programs you installed etc. After you're done check memory again for comparison and run the game. If it's better, then look for more permanent solution, like Clean Master or something, if not, I don't know. Just reboot the phone after a game again, to make sure programs you killed are restarted, so you don't loose any functions.

Thanks for the suggestions! The phone didn't have that many apps since I just got it at the time but power saving mode was off and I also disabled a ton of Samsung apps and bloatware to try to save memory as well but it still lagged so I ended up swapping the S5 for a HTC One M8 and the M8 has been smooth so far. Thanks anyways!

[Q] GDI LAG?

I have a strange problem. My TG01 is very laggy in certain application. I cant use them, bacause scrolling is very choppy in them. So far i discovered that these are:
- parlingo contacts scrolling
- scroling content of email message
- scrolling in pocket informant
- scrolling in ptasks
- scrolling in spb mobile shell in star menu when using sense theme and changing desktops
I dont understand how is it possible that device with such a fast processor can behave like this. My another observation is that some of these issues sometimes disappear - I mean parlingo and email.
I tried diffirent roms and change some settings in registy (font cache) with no luck.
Do You have these problems too? Pliz help
Anyone? I recently tried throttle launcher and without hwarware acc i get 5-10 fps and with acceleration 15-20. It is unusable. I bought device with 1Ghz processor bacuase i wanted it to be fast!
Maybe power saving options?
SD card is slow?
Install programs to main memory instead.
Install Chain Fire 3D drivers.
Free up memory using Clean Ram program.
A list of things you can try.
Power saving settings are OK - best performance
Programs are installed to main memory but i do not think that this lag can be caused by slow sd card.
I had chainfire3d and clean ram but with no help.
Maybe everyone have this issues , but only I see them?

you arent the only one! i suffer these problems as well on the email, i find it very annoying. none of those solutions provide a fix, anyone help?
I also noticed that this strange behaviour sometimes disappears and it runs quite smooth then. It runs smooth in email app for some time after soft reset.
I tried to run some benchmarks (2dmark) and i found that my results are 4-5 times lower than some another user of TG01 posting his results. But this results may not be connected to the lag I am seeing in other applications.

[Q] SGS2 slow to close apps - 6secs!!! :(

Hello All,
My girlfriend just got a new Orange SGS2. The phone is great, really slim, fast at playing games, high linpack score etc.
However there is a problem that really bothers me, apps load pretty much instantly however when you press the home button they take ~6 seconds to close!
This happens with even the most basic apps such as the dialler or contacts and is very frustrating as I am sure the SGS2 should be performing better than this. My HTC Desire (and even my old HTC hero to a slightly lesser extent) closes apps pretty much instantly
Hope the gurus of XDA can help with this one.
Many thanks,
hopoffbaby
Okay, the reason your old phone shut them instantly was because it needed to free up resources.
The SGS2 is a far superior phone in terms of spec and as such it doesn't need to shut its apps the moment you hit home.
Android is very capable to say the least when managing its resources so stop watching the task-manager and RAM usage, don't use a task killer and just enjoy life with the SGS2 it'll never struggle.
Mine regularly has 15+ apps running in the background with no noticeable effect on its stunning performance.
Hi,
I think you have misunderstood me. I'm not talking about the kernel killing the apps to free memory, I'm talking about how long it take to return to the home screen after pressing the home (or back) button.
For example, I open the contacts app and it loads instantly. When i click the home button I can count to 6 (slowly) before I am back at the home screen.... It is incredibly annoying and I am sure it is not how Samsung intended??
Thanks again,
hopoffbaby
Should be instant .
You may need to factory reset after backing up data .
jje
Hi,
I was hoping to avoid a factory reset. I have read a few people are having issues (none seem to be as long as 6 seconds though) and that it may be related to the voice control or the touchwiz launcher?
Any thoughts on that?
thanks
Hi,
I toggled the driving mode on and off again and that seems to have go the delay down to around 2 seconds which is a massive improvement, although still not ideal I don't think. What I don't understand however is that the driving mode wasn't on in the first place so why did this make a difference?
Does anyone know what driving mode actually does?
Thanks,
hopoffbaby

Confirmed temporary solution to game freezing and browser/system lag. Video Added!

Hey guys. I believe that the os21 update has a bad memory leak/background processing management(besides a kernal issue). When playing heavy 3d games like Nova 3 or Sonic, the framerates are really slow or stutter a lot until the games force-close. Well, for the past 2 days, I have not had this issue, both Nova 3 and Sonic play with no stuttering at all, and I have not experienced any more game crashes. My browser also seems much smoother. Please try the two fix options listed below, while noting that the 2nd option seems to work best with mass Efeect, and less "strict" on runnig processes than the first option:
Fix #1- What I did was push the soft reset button on the Prime (using a small paperclip), then waited for the Prime to reboot. Once it rebooted, DO NOT let the Prime load up anything, just immediately go into settings, developer options, select the kill all activities option, then for background processes, select "at most 1 process only" Delete all of your running task managers/task widgets an that's it. Now all of my games run, no crashes, and the framerates for Nova 3 and Sonic is MUCH better.
Fix# 2 - For those still having issues with Mass Effect, this alternate setting will definitely fix the problem. After soft rebooting, go into development settings, and then for background processes, select "at most 1 process only" and DO NOT select kill all processes after leaving them. This setting has been confirmed to fix the Mass Effect issue, as well as all other games while still keeping the Prime running a lot smoother.
Please try using the exact instructions that I have posted, and let me know if this works for you guys. If so, then it proves that the os21 has a memory management issue which is causing all the current issues we are having.
Also, I would like to share this post from Jaycustom, whom has also been using this method for a few days now and enjoying it more than myself lol. He ran a CPU test to test the differences before and after my fix. See his results below:
Default settings said I had about 19 user/ 29 system processes running.
Dev settings gave me 14 user/ 11 system processes running.
Default settings for system memory 600+mb used/300+ free
Dev settings for system memory 300+ used/600+ free
The memory usage was pretty much exactly reversed! So I assume this is where most, but not all, of the performance boost comes from. CPU usage was also lower, not by much though.
See the video that I made (link below)showing me using the default browser, which is now really fast and stable using this method. I also ran Mass Effect 3 and Nova 3 to show that I have no issues playing these games anymore. I used a Samsung Galaxy tab to record, so please re-frame from laughing at the quality of the vid lol! If you guys would like me to try more games/apps, please let me know.

Thanks guys
Nova 3 is still freezing and crashing, frame rate is still same.... I think tehere is no solution untill FailLoft will update the app for tegra 3.

Sorry to hear that it didnt work for you, but it seems to have resolved the issue for me entirely. I am not exeriencing any more gam crashes or white flashing screens. Are you sure that you followed the stes listed? Waiting for others to rely, but either my Prime just decided to play all my games correctly, or this is "fix" is working for me.
This is not an acceptable fix, it is only a workaround.

Yes I agree 100%, but it works. At least we can play some of our games/browse without issue until the fix comes out. Did you try it, and did it work for you?

I'll have to try this out tonight. To clarify, when you say "do not let it load up anything", do you just mean go into the settings as soon as possible and kill things? It must start running services as soon as it boots, no? I guess this just minimizes the "damage"?
Hi, I've just tried this and it doesn't seem to have had much of an effect I'm afraid.
In the last 10 mins I've still had two spontaneous browser shutdowns, plus crappy streaming video playback from sites such as bbc iplayer.
The pages seem to load a little faster and scrolling may be a touch smoother but thats about it the best I can say.
This solution works well for me. I have been doing this for some time, except I have limited the processes to three. Limiting it to one seems to improve it even better. Widgets seem also to be a drain on the resources and limiting those works well for me. Much thanks for the post.
You might also try this solution from here post #118 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681469&page=12
It seems to have worked for me, I've only had one reboot since. It's at least worth a try. Good luck.

yes exactly.. this is the way it worked for me. Just immediately go into setting, and select the options that i listed. This will only allow the essential programs to run. Please let me know if this works for you. Also, switch the prime to performance for graphic heavy games. Still testing this, but so far I have not have any crashes since applying.

Thanks for confirm this. Yes, my Prime is no longer lagging when browsing or crashing during gameplay..the difference is honestly night and day. Just confirms for me that .21 is not handling the background processes, or closing them correctly.

Hey, do you happen to have the sticky player app installed by any chance?
No I've never used sticky player app.
I've been toying with the idea of factory resetting and trying this. I'll see how it goes tonight

you shouldn't have to factory reset, that would suck
Can you try the soft reset option again? Once it's done, update the setting as listed and try the Prime on performance mode. If that doesn't help, then you may have a bad app which is hogging on your resources and causing the slowdown/crashes.
This procedure also seems to improve on the strength of the Wi-Fi signal. At least on mine it does.

Maybe it's just because the Prime is loading pages a lot faster because there aren't so many things running in the background now. it would be cool though if this also fixed wifi, maybe someone should do a speed test for before and after the fix?
I just tried the default browser again. It does not lag/stutter when scrolling through the pages anywhere near like it used to. it's not as smooth as opera mini, but it's a LOT better than before. Still no game crashes at all since doing this. I can post vids for anyone who would like to see proof after work.

I was gonna do one anyway, just to start from scratch with a blank slate and get it set up how I want it!
After resetting, and before any apps are downloaded the browser is working much much better once the settings you recommend are applied. Loading and scrolling is faster and there have been no force closes or video hangups.
Cheers, I look forward to this .28 update but thats helped me out a lot in the meantime!

Great to hear! yes, my Prime seems much quicker with touch inputs, scrolling, gaming and web browsing. Must of been a bad memory issue along with the kernel for .21.
just did this ans seems to work very well. i was getting around 12-15mbs and now im getting 32mbs in the garage with only 1 bar. im very happy with that. thanks for sharing.

Galaxy S6 EDGE freeze

Hello to all, such to title, my problem is with my new Galaxy S6 EDGE 32 GB. So, i seen, after configuration of the smartphone and backup of all my google's apps and data, that some times the smartphone freeze, i make an example, i play call of duty heroes and, after 10 - 5 minutes the phone freeze and reboot, i have already done an hard reset from recovery, flashed the rom (5.1.1) and done a new reset, but also after all this, there is the same problem anyway, but the phone is UNBELIEVEBLE with other use, no lag, nothing, smoothly! So i tryied other games: real racing 3= freeze one time
Taichi panda= freeze one time or two
Call of duty heroes= freeze ever BUT, only with shadows! If i play without these, so far, i seen that the game not freeze...
I also tryied antutu benchmark that had freezed only one times but not more.
So my question is: this problem is caused from hardware or, there is some possibility that is only a firmware problem? Because, i think that the phone had hardware problems, the freeze become anyway with other app, browser and youtube, true? While all this not happens fortunately.
Anyways excuse me for my bad english!

Galaxy S7 Edge (AT&T) Laggy and unresponsive after root

I recently rooted my phone (Galaxy S7 Edge (AT&T) or G-SM935A), which has been great, getting to use all these new apps and all the additional functionality. However, ever since rooting, my phone borders on unusable for day to day activity (Gaming is near impossible). I have managed to fix the poor battery life I was getting, but the lag is unbearable, and I don,t know how to fix it. In the middle of typing a sentence, it'll suddenly stop and take a couple seconds to respond and catch up. opening an app (any app) usually takes a couple seconds for it to respond. And while scrolling it'll tweak out and think I've long pressed something if I scroll too slowly. Also streaming stuff like youtube videos, the video often just freezes while the audio keeps playing. These are the most notable reoccurring issues I am facing.
I followed this root guide exactly as its worded:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/root-s7-att-g930a-g935a-t3410538
Its been slow ever since rooting. I have factory reset a few times, cleared partition cache as well as dalvik cache, tried re-flashing the kernel, tried build.prop tweaks (helped with the battery but that's all). No custom ROMs or recoveries or anything else. Just barebones config.
Also the only two root apps I have installed right now are: ES File Explorer, Seeder, and Packet Disabler Pro (only bloatware disabled though). I previously had Root Booster, and Ad Block Plus, but uninstalled them since I found them unhelpful..
It sometimes gets better for maybe half a day if I reset or clear cache or something else mentioned above that I tried, but then goes right back downhill.
I try to regularly close background tasks, not through a task manager (i.e. advanced task killer) or RAM cleaner, as I have heard that this can actually make things worse.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as I am at a total loss, and cannot find anything helpful online.
I have tried to provide as much info as possible to make any sort of debugging easier. Please feel free to tell me anything at all I might've missed.
Thank you all for your help..
Have you looked at this:
GUIDE: ROOT, install XPOSED, and UNROOT/returning to stock a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...tes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039/page1
It might be helpful.
Use the debloater zip mentioned in the post above mine then check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...uide-fine-tuning-performance-battery-t3417804
This is due to using the engineering kernel needed to achieve root. It causes some phones to lag quite a bit.
