Receiving muted calls - Sprint LG G3

I have a relative who uses boost mobile. I'm not sure what phone they have. When they call me or I call them half the time it literally makes no noise. They will call me and when I answer all I hear is silence and they have to recall sometimes 2 or 3 times. Sometimes when I call them they will answer and we both hear nothing but silence as well.
I'm not sure if it's something on my end or hers. When she calls my girlfriend who is on verizon with sgs3 though it never happens. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this?

Have you done anything to your phone?
Does it happen on Wi-Fi calling, cell network, or both?
Do you get the same problem with others on boost?

Actually I had an sgs3 before I got the lgg3 and I had the same exact problem. It happens on wifi calling or over normal data. I don't know anyone else who uses boost unfortunately.

Not sure then a quick google search shows nothing for boost sprint muted calls.

Serious issue with incoming calls

I switched from Droid to Rezound a week ago. Never had any problem with OD. But for the Rezound, I have big problems with incoming calls. many times, the calls just go directly to my voice mail. The phone doesn't ring at all. Sometime when someone left a message, I don't get it. No notification from the phone at all. The worst part, when I check my voice mail, nothing is there. Sometime, when the call did come through, I can't hear the caller. All I hear is some clicking sound, or, sometime high pitched noise.
I already had a brand new replacement and also changed a SIM card. But the problem is still there.
I tried everything I can think of, disable sleep mode, disable fastboot. I even disabled the Google Voice service.
I wonder if anyone else is having the same problem? Any help is highly appreciated.
I use Google Voice on my phone as my primary means of performing phone calls or sms messages and have had absolutely no issues at all.
Every once and awhile when I get a call and my phone is in my pocket, I don't hear it because the phone moving in my pocket automatically silences the ringer.. but other than that I have had no problems with making or receiving calls or voicemails through Google Voice on the Rezound.
This only happens to me when I use the dialer command *#*#4636#*#* and set it to LTE only
For some reason this disables voice, not sure if you do that or not

I don't think I used that dialer command. I have no idea what it is. The only thing I used was the LTE OnOFF from the market, which is supposed to be used for TB. I hope that's not the reason everything screwed up. But even it is, it should only to the phone with the app installed, right? As I already exchanged to another Rezound, any side effect should be gone by now.
The LTEonoff app is the same thing, just a shortcut
So if you do set it to LTE mode that's probably why your not getting calls, just set it back cdma/LTE + evdo auto and all should be fine

The phone already has the ability to turn this off and on under the network settings. DON'T LEAVE IT ON CDMA WHEN YOU TURN YOUR PHONE OFF OR LET YOUR BATTERY DIE. You have a good chance of going into a bootloop. I experienced different issues especially with data when using LTE ON /OFF so I uninstalled it. Have no issues now. Maybe a coincidence but who cares, you don't need it. I'd ditch the app and test the outcome. Curious myself if that app is causing more problems that people are unaware of.

I only used LTE OnOFF on the original Rezound. Don't have it on the new replacement. So unless it did something to VZW server end, it shouldn't affect the second Rezound. My problem is not that I don't get call at all, it's on and off. Same number call me a minute ago, and I can't hear the caller, but right after he hang up and call me again, I can hear him loud and clear.
The network is wonderfully. I really like this phone and don't want to give it up. Only wish I can get calls in right.

Not receiving calls

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but it appears I am not receiving some calls and/or receiving text late or not at all. I wondering if setting the Roam setting to "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" makes a difference. This seems to be an off and on issue. Also it is starting to get on my nerves when I get text VMs atleast 3 hours after the call was made to me (keep in mind my phone never rang during those calls).
Anybody have any solutions, besides throwing this cool "buggy ass" phone against the wall?
This is a nice phone but it definitely has some bugs to be worked out. Or is all the problems related to Sprint's F'd up signals? My wife has the EVO3D and has none of these issues... wtf.

I am also having the exact same problem. I have tried playing with all the mobile settings and updating prl without success. This issue is intermitent. Also, I am periodically getting the unable to detect time/timezone message.
I am about to call Sprint, but was hoping to find a solution here. Please let me know what you find out.

I have researched the issue and it appears this issue is not uncommon. There is already an established post started for this issue, titled; "Anyone else having reception/signal issues?" Right now it appears one the ways to fix this issue is having Sprint re-provisioning your phone. Some have claimed this has helped.
I am planning on doing this myself sometime today.
But it does seem to be a Sprint conectivity issue and/or an issue with the phones antenna.
So I called Sprint and they had me reactivate, but signal still seemed to be a problem as it still roams. They recommended I take it in and get it replaced. So that is what I am going to do as I am just under the 14 day period.
not receiving calls
are you guys still having the same issue or have a work around?
I'm also not getting calls and when I try to make calls, I receive text messages that was sent in the past. I tried to contact customer support but all they've done was have me update profile and restart the phone. This is getting ridiculous specially missing some important calls.
Complain and get a free Airave. Then you'll have perfect call quality and 5 bars everywhere in your house. Done.

I have been missing lots of calls the lastbfew days, and even wasnable to replicate the issue at my house. If my wife's phone calls mine, it will ring until voicemail on her end,and I get nothing on mine unless I leave a voicemail. I have steady, if not great signal on both (100ish DB).this is only the case for incoming calls, as I can always call out from home with no problems.
I tried that scenario a coupl dozen times, and got through 4 times.
I found two workarounds so far that seem to work consistently. (Both from other threads, can't take credit for finding them, but I did test them extensively. )
1. If I am on another call, I will get the incoming call everytime. I just dial voicemail and have someone call me to test. Without fail, the call center through.
2. Turning GPS and all location services on under settings -location. Strangely enough, all of my dozen test calls have gone through after turning GPS location on. Turning it off brought the usual 20% call success rate back.
Odd to say the least...

It isn't a signal issue, the phones just don't ring. I have this issue and have full bars when attempted calls do not come into the EVO LTE. I can make calls out fine, just no received calls. Also to make this a more peculiar issue, I go down the highway a couple miles and it works fine.
I have called Sprint and followed a blog on sprint.com http://sprint.r.delivery.net/r/c/r?2.1.GT.2Z2.1hiUnF.DfhoXq..N.1QNCs.4RAa.bW89MQ__DObeFTE0 where others have the same issue, even in the same town. Sprint has followed up with no issue and ticket closed. It is currently open again..
My girlfriend broke up with me over theses missed text messages
and i missed important calls. I called sprint he had me turn off the phone while they refreshed it. Working ok so far i will say this i unrooted my phone and when i woke up i had 48 text messages from the previous week and eight voice mails from three days ago, i wonder if everyone with this problem was rooted as well.

I had the same problem with me evo 4g and evo 3d...
I had same problem. Only way to get texts or calls was to call my voice mail. Sprint started a ticket, but since I was within my 14 days I exchanged the phone. Good thing I did cause Sprint closed the ticket on me telling me it was due to system upgrades. But it was not the network at all. As soon as they activated my new phone everything worked perfect. It was the phone the whole time.

Try This...
I have an epic4g touch and this is the only "Band aid" that has stopped me from smashing my phone!
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!

[Q] [ATT] Calls shift from distorted to clear

I am on AT&T and this is my second HOX+. The first one had a speaker issue so I sent it back. I did not have it long enough to assess this issue, as I made few calls. At any rate, I am on a college campus in the southern United States. When I am on the phone with my parents, they complain that my calls randomly go to where they cannot hear me like I am stuck in a tin can and that they can hear themselves or some other voice in a fuzzy and distorted echo when they talk, but it doesn't necessarily sound like either of us. Meanwhile, everything on my end sounds just great. (other than the fact that when they start complaining of not being able to understand me I get pissed off that it isn't functioning as it should and a simple call becomes complicated with repeating everything.)
It seems like interference or a bad connection to a tower. I would flash a new radio, but I don't see any of those available for the ATT HOX+. Also, I can't disable the LTE or WCDMA radios and lock it down to GSM for testing purposes in the Phone Information menu like on my Inspire. It doesn't seem to be hardware issues, unless its the mic, because it does it randomly when I have not moved the phone, but if I go outside the building sometimes it jumps to clear like it switched a tower. I thought it was just in the building until today when I called my father and it started doing it while walking about campus.
I am rooted and S-ON, running Elegancia ROM, and currently scaled back to 2 cores using the CoreControl app specifically for Tegra 3 in the HOX forum, but this problem occurred before the root/ROM/CPU Core scaling so I don't know what's up.
So has anyone else ever experienced this? I will try it on a different network when I go home for the break tomorrow. Any and all help is appreciated guys. I really like the phone.
Yesterday I was driving and was on speaker and the other said the same. They heard the voice along with some weird squeaky sound every couple of seconds. Then I turned off the speaker and they said it was clear. I'll try one more time today.

Upon delving deeper into the situation, it is DEFINITELY a network issue, not the mic, because as a test I used the voice recorder app which uses the same mic and held the phone like on a call and made a voice recording with the same dialogue that i used to send myself a voicemail by calling my voicemail and pressing two. The one on voicemail was garbled like a robot voice when it could be understood. I said roughly two hundred words and actually understood five of them. That's sad considering I knew what I was saying. The one with voice recorder sounded fine so I thought it might be a matter of the noise cancelling mic at the top of the phone covered by my finger. However, when I tried to input the number for destination mail box into the voicemail prompt, the network apparently started skewing my signal worse. When inputting (number changed for my privacy) 0123456789, the number would be repeated as 10124345677688678989. I remained stationary and kept conditions the same for all tests. I am a polymer scientist, so experiment repetition is part of my daily job. Sound like an AT&T issue that they more than likely will not acknowledge or an offending source of interference on campus that only affects phones with newer LTE radios?

It's LTE which surprised me at first because the cell networks here are really undeveloped for the most part aside from the large cities.

It jumps back and forth from UMTS to HSDPA during a call. I'm not sure which band is the offending network because it was cycling every few seconds.

It cuts out a little in the 3g network of another city when visiting family. Think it's in need of a radio update or what? I don't want to get rid of the phone altogether but me cutting out annoying people when I talk really bugs me. Is anyone else experience call quality issues with ATT?
Anyone? Yes or no is ok I'm just trying to see if its just me. Really confused about this and don't want to send it back.

I've yet to have any issues with call quality aside from the sound being sub-par in bluetooth mode.
While using the speaker and/or speakerphone though everything has been working well for me.
Although I do live in the Houston area and we generally get pretty good cellphone signals in the area. So that may be part of it.
Short answer : No issues so far in about 2 weeks of use.
I've been having similar issues here in Philadelphia. Every time I call my parents they st I sound static-y. I tried calling them on my wife's iPhone 4 and they said it was better but still not great. Woner if it's a combination of the network and the phone's radio?

You guys are probably just in a bad reception area. I know specifically a few areas where i know better to make calls as they will just drop or have terrible reception on any device, just how it works. Now if i was in a known good cell reception area and having these issues, then i would look towards the phone. I've been to many college campus and actually found they all have pretty bad cell reception all over for who knows why. Just some food for thought...

Bad reception area in the the second largest city in my state on a college campus with a -54 dBm signal strength and a repeated problem in two other cities each with -79+ signal? Not likely. Turned out to be hardware. New HOX+ came in today and it works totally fine. It is a refurb though :/ Oh well! It works when both new ones didn't. I'll give it a few days to test out before I go ahead and do the bootloader unlock. Thanks for your input guys. Must have been the antenna messing up with it. I called the ATT rep to put in for the exchange and she told me she couldn't understand me. I told her that was the problem. haha

Radio/Signal Issues and Dropped Calls

So, I've been tweaking this, playing with PRL's and working with some of the RF engineers I know at Samsung and Sprint, but I wanted to see if anyone else is having problems like this.
1- You have solid signal strength, but continuously drop calls 5-10 seconds after connecting.
2- Your signal strength and data connection type fluctuates rapidly while stationary. (LTE to 3G or no data connection at all, often times with bars going to zero before immediately changing technology type)
3- Showing good signal strength until you push send on a call, then bars drop to zero, call fails, then you show good signal again.
I never had great signal at my house, but at least I had 1 bar and could make and receive calls. Since I got the Note 3, my signal strength looks great, but issue #1 from above happens 100% of the time. My wife's iPhone 5 and daughters LG Optimus do not have this problem.

I was having the same issue of 5-10 second drop calls. Exchanged phones and same issue still so returning the phone altother to sprint until the fix the issue. The tech at the sprint store told me Sprint and Samsung looking at ways to resolve the issue, but I have no patience for a phone that can't make phone calls... Going back to my SGS2.
I have yet to get a LTE signal on this, my third Note 3. I'm at places that I know for a fact have LTE but this piece of crap won't pick it up. This phone has me so aggravated already.
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Do you have the sim card in there activated? LTE operates over the SIM card, I removed my sim card for testing and it would not pick up any LTE signal whatsoever. Also make sure your account has LTE activated as well.
I am having the same issue with my 3G signal also, I even got a unable to connect to data network message very strange and I can't update my prl the normal way just flash them, i called sprint technical support and they told me to switch between cdma\lte to cdma only and keep it like that for a few minutes then switch back.

had the same issue the first 3 days that I got the phone...has improved a lot on the last 4 days....after multiple restarts and PRL updates
Sprint had sent me an Airave device, so I'm going to test with that over my home internet as backhaul. If it works fine, the network is the issue. If the same things still happens, it's the phone that's the problem. I suspect network, but I'll keep everyone updated.

I had three Note 3's. All had the same voice signal issues.
I bought the first phone on the day of release. When I got home, I noticed that on a connected call, the voice I heard popped and had varying signal distortions. I returned it on the 5th, and repurchased another.
Same problem. It's only during a connected call, not when listening to music, video or recorded voice. Thus, I posted a meagre on the Sprint community forum regarding voice popping, distortions and morphing.
Sprint Note 3 people nation wide began stating they also had the problem. My third Note 3 also had the problem. I returned the phone until the problem is fixed.
I did get 4GLTE briefly in one location, but for the most part, I get 3G only. I did notice that the DATA signal/antenna is slightly better than the Note 2, which is the phone I've reverted back to.
Sprint has been active in that message thread, stating they are working closely with Samsung for a fix. Some have posted that they've received a call from Sprint informing them that an update is due out the week of the 28th. Sprint Technical support confirmed an update is coming out but wouldn't commit to a timeframe.
The voice signal issues are not present during two conditions: roaming, and VOIP calling.
Take care
John
You are correct on the device update. I worked with some engineers at sprint and Samsung and an updated build is being pushed out now in waves that is to correct call audio, blue tooth audio and dropped calls, along with minor system tweaks to correct random reboots that have been reported.
If you're rooted or have modified recovery that tripped the counter, you will need to either return to stock for the OTA or wait for a dev to make a flashable version.

I am on MJ4 now and the voice quality is a lot better now but I'm still getting dropped call though. I also got a message from sprint a few days ago that they are working on towers i my area. I noticed if i go to a different side of the city, that i don't get these dropped calls at all. It is definitely sprints/vision upgrades that are messing up all the phone calls. Some towers are old technology and some are new so they can't communicate with each other from what i have observed.

Dropping calls like crazy
Just throwing in my observation:
I am also experiencing dropped call issues with my Sprint Note 3. I was on baseband MI5 and I just upgraded to MJ4 today. The issue is still there and calls drop sometimes 5 seconds in (while ringing) other times it will happen 2-3 mins into a call. I am lucky if I can hold a call for 5 minutes.

Wifi calling issue with S5

At times, when I am using wifi calling, the incoming call directly goes to voice mail. I don't get the ring. This has happened to me more than a couple of times.
Out going calls are working fine, even when incoming calls are directed to voice mail. Incoming calls work after I turn off and turn on wifi.
Tmobile signal is very weak in my apartment and I rely on wifi calling to make/receive calls.
I am wondering if this is issue with my phone only..
Is any one else facing this issue?
I hope there is a fix for this issue..
It happened to me sometimes in the past (sgs4) and I think also one time with the sgs5.
How is your Wi-Fi signal? It might be that you are losing Wi-Fi from time to time and as a result you are being de-register from the T-Mobile network (and the incoming call is being diverted to voicemail).
Maybe try to keep the phone in a very good Wi-Fi coverage area for few hours, make some incoming test calls and see how it works?

In my case I figured it out. "conditional forwarding" was somehow turned on with the device. I didn't do it, and when I called t-mobile they turned it off, and it works fine. Doing the ##004# didn't clear it t-mobile had to do it in the provisioning profile.

have you found anything out about this issue yet ?
i have bought a new s5 and have same issue, no incoming calls unless i turn wifi off, then it works fine
sim card has been replaced, samsung have even replaced handset and exactly same occurs
i have turned off 4g so its only on 3g/2g
the network have turned off all call barring etc settings
if i put my sim in my old S3 it works flawless, if i put my wifes sim in my s5 it also works flawless
network or samsung cant work it out, its been factory reset like 6 times now its driving me mad
thanks Richard
Though I've only had the S5 (4 of them) for about a week, incoming calls usually work. There was one time in the past week where my wife's phone went to voicemail immediately (called 3 times, 3 times into VM). When I came home, I toggled wifi calling off and on, then it worked fine. Has been fine since.
Wifi signal at the time was as strong as can be.
Hopefully future firmware updates will make it more solid.
I have the same problem, come on Samsung, we need a fix, I am still in the first 14 days of my contract and have requested a replacement handset.
I don't get text when wifi calling is enabled. Just started happening to me after the NF6 upgrade. TMO said they have many people with the new update that this is being reported and might have it fixed in a day or two.
^^^ I thought that I was the only one having this problem. As it just started after doing the NF6 update. Wifi calling and texting has been real erratic, especially texts. If I restart the phone or switch airplane mode to off then back on texts go crazy for a little bit and then stops working again.

This phone has nothing but problems worth wifi calling and texts, missing calls and frankly for a $600 it's a joke. Not to mention battery covers falling off.
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
Has anyone found a fix for this? It just started happening again to me. Last time I was told need to shut off qifi calling first then, wifi when leaving the area of my wifi (home) worked for awhile, then recently found out I'm not getting calls again. Texts seem to work on I think, but not calls. Wifi calling is a must for me as tmobile signal is low in my house
Just got off the phone with tmobile apparently my "wifi" calling "provision" was not turned on my line. We'll see if it fixes the issue, we'll see. Just an FYI for people who still encounter this issue, might be worth the try

I started having this issue about 2 weeks ago. Its not restricted to texting, but both texting and calling. I bought the S5 back in February and had no problems when connected to Wifi at home. At times my connection would be over 10 hours, I could call, receive calls, text, surf no issues. After the slew of updates I started noticing that calls going to VM even though I was connected to the WiFi. No call would show up in the caller logs.
It was intermittent, and therefore escaped my attention. But recently the issue is more consistent. Following is a summary of what occurs:
1 - When Wi fi is enabled and connected and i try to make a call, they call goes through but immediately disconnects
2 - When Wi fi is enabled and I try to call it from another phone the call goes straight to VM
3 - When Wi fi is enabled and a friend texts me, the text does not show up
4 - In the rare instance when Wi fi is enabled and I do manage to call out the call will disconnect after about 5 minutes
5 - I am able to surf and receive and send emails over wifi
Essentially this $700+ phone has just become a pricey laptop. I did call T-Mobile Tech support, and after an hour on the phone they issued a ticket that pushes the issue up to the engineers. Still waiting to hear from them.

I have almost all the issues you listed above, and the only fix is to soft rest my phone every time i get home, then i call 611 to make sure my wifi calling is working.
I've been talking to tmobile for months, and before it seemed ok, then all of a sudden not "constantly" not working.
They "told" you an engineer is working on it...NO THEY ARE NOT.
My ticket sat in a queue from Sunday to Thursday because they are backed up.
If they tell you they will call you back,....no they wont.
I've gone through two "supervisors" supposedly, and still no resolution.
Supposed to get a call back from the 2nd one who is a higher person and/or "engineer" with a resolution....i'm not holding my breath.
They've lost all credibility with me and i will need to see some action in order for them to gain it back. Being with them for 13 years, when it was called Voicestream back then, and all i get is the run-around and more excuses to by themselves more time? That piss-poor customer service.
If 3 people have to ask me if my firmware up-to-date, WTH is the point of telling me you noted my account? Apparently the last person didn't of you didn't bother reading the notes after putting me on hold to say your're reviewing the notes on my account.
Sorry for the long rant, but short story, take what they tell you with a grain of salt and follow up with them daily if you want this issue fixed.

Wow! The 611 rep told me that they have not heard of this problem before. After the call I googled and came up with several hits dating back to 2013. This has been a problem in previous versions, but it was not a problem on the first S5, just the updates killed it.

LOL i'm not surprised. It's really sad, supposedly it's a known issue, from what some reps have told me before.
All they are doing is buying themselves times.
You should tell them to log onto a forum while your on the phone and/or do a google search and tell me it's still tell me they have not heard of the problem before.
MAYBE the "rep" never heard of it, but it should be all over their intranet or notes.
They told me, thats what some of release updates have been about.
I got the phone on launch day and already 2 firmware updates.
I could go on and on about the BS, but it's frustrating to bring up. Not sure how you feel, but for a $700+ phone, i want it to work without me having to reset for a feature that TMOBILE prides itself on.
i'll report back what they tell me. good luck to us both, we're going to need it.
