[Q] can't connect to laptop - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Just receive my N9. I put the cable in my laptop and adb drivers were installed automatically but i can t access to my storage. Any idea ?
Thx
Envoyé de mon Nexus 5 en utilisant Tapatalk

I was able to access it by turning off USB debugging and turning on MTP (settings, storage, ...menu, USB computer connection).
Does anybody know why I can't get access to the storage if I have USB debugging on? I'm able to do this with my phone.

So finally i had to update the driver and install the usb MTP one instead of Google Nexus ADB ! Don't know why...

If you are on Windows: Samsung drivers installed?
Did you try different USB port?
Is USB debugging enabled? Settings->Applications->Development
What are the USB settings on the phone? Settings->Applications->USB settings
Mass storage mode doesn't work for me on Win 7 x64 I just use the media player setting and it works the same way as mass storage should.
It works for me just fine. One time it did do the flickering USB icon thing, but that turned out to be because the cable that I was using was going bad. It sounds like this may be what's going on in your case?
I clipped this from a post I made a few months ago...

For those of you having a problem with Windows 7 recognizing your Vibrant ... here is how I fixed it on my system.
*Note: You do not need to load any special USB drivers for your phone to be recognized in Mass Storage mode in Windows 7.
*Warning: You follow these instructions at your own risk ... no screaming at me if you try it and something gets screwed up!
1) Navigate your way into the Device Manager / Universal Serial Bus Controller
2) Uninstall the device(s) "USB Root Hub" (My system had 2 listed)
3) You will lose mouse and keyboard control (because you just removed the USB Hubs)
4) Reset your PC and allow Windows to boot normally.
5) Go back to the device manager and wait for all of the "!" marks to go away as windows re-installs the USB Hubs and reinitializes all of your devices.
6) Make sure your Vibrant is in mass storage mode and has USB debugging OFF
7) Plug in your Vibrant via the USB cable and be amazed as windows recognizes your device and assigns the drive letters. After you select the mount option on your phone you will have normal access via windows explorer.
Hope this helps some of you out there !!!

How to connect to PC without opening USB Mass Storage??

So here is the deal - earlier I could connect my SGS2 to PC with USB Debbuging turned on, and nothing poped up and I could use storage and sd card on PC and at the same time on the phone, like open it with some file explorer, and install apps when still connected to PC... Sound awesome, because now there is this - When I am in USB debbuging and connected to PC, it cant find storages, so I have to disable debugging, and there pops up this USB Mass Storage when i connect the cable. When it is connected to PC, I cant access files on the phone in that moment.... So what is wrong??
Will be pleased for all suggestions..
Thanks

When you connect to computer, dont do it in Debugging mode. If you change it windows (forcing MTP) dont like that. So it will require you to remove phone and reboot. But try the following also
delete all old drivers and remove them in registry. (if needed check the below link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882942
Still not working go to device manger "type it in start"
Go to View
Select Hidden Driver
Go To Non_Plug and Play Drivers
Right Click on Hardware Policy Driver
Go To Driver Tab,
Stop this device
and Disable it
Restart Windows ( unplug phone first, disable network card also)
Disable WiFi or network card, (double tap)
Plug in Phone
Allow windows to load the drivers on your phone.
(don't stop this at all)
Look for phone.
Later you can add updated drivers if you would like. Remember windows keeps all old drivers, even if its jacked up. PnP will still run.
This works on Vista and above. haven't tested it on XP.
IMPORTANT
U must re-enable the change to the device manager after this, or each time you reboot it will reload the drivers.

[Q] Phone not detected, but charging and USB tethering working

This is probably a common problem, I saw lots of threads but I can't find any solutions to it, and I really want to make my phone faster i.e. root
Phone: LG P990 (Optimus 2x)
Problem:
Phone not detected by the computer when connected through USB.
What I tried:
1. Factory reset (only data)
2. Cleaning the port with a toothbrush
3. Uninstalling and re-installing drivers
4. Replacing the cable I was using with the OEM one (I lost my original together with my charger)
5. Plugging into different computers and USB ports
6. Checking and unchecking the option of connecting through mass storage only
7. Enabling and disabling USB debugging
What's so incredible about my problem is that the phone actually knows that it is connected to the computer - the USB tethering option is available and it says that USB's connected - but the USB connection icon on the status bar for mass storage doesn't show up. I'm not sure if it's a software or hardware problem. So any ideas how to fix this?
Bump.
Android version: 2.3.4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Firmware version: LGP990-V20d
Please help!
Just some updates.
See proposed fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981359
My computer showed the unknown device message when I chose CP UART. I'm working on the rest of the fix now, and hopefully the problem can be solved.

Samsung galaxy S2 USB prob(not even mtp mode)

Hello,
As you can see in the title I have a problem with my samsung galaxy s2. Until 2 days ago, everything was working fine. My phone was connected to pc via USB cable. As I was working as it was poping up with the autoplay.
My brother did walk on the room and "took it in his legs"(if you know what i mean).
Problem:
Now the phone is only charging at PC via usb. I am not able to do it to connect via usb storage or any other way. I did buy an usb cable but in vain.
What i have tried:
-buy a new usb cable
-reinstall usb drivers from xda/samsung/google/kies/
-clean the usb
-clean the usb from phone
-#7248... method
-tryied to connect on virtual machine with windows 7(hoping for autoinstall autoplay)
-update windows media player
-debug onn, debugg off
I am using Win XP sp3. Also after unistall and reinstall the drivers i get the message with usb not reconized and windows asks me to search the drivers for Multimedia controller and multimedia video controller.
Note:
Multimedia controller and multimedia video controller are asked by Windows only after I connect phone to pc when reinstalling usb drivers.

Replace USB board/port (but you need to get the correct part - search for similar threads to get the info you need; this has been discussed here a lot this year).
What version of Android are you running?
If it's 4.22 or 4.3 then go to Settings/Storage. click 'menu' and change USB settings on the phone from MTP to USB/Camera/PTP
Then it should show up as an external usb device.
XP is bad at recognising MTP (media device) so just set it to register as a Camera or usb storage in settings.
I am not using android 4.22 or 4.3. I am using android 4.1.2 and i do not have that option.
Until i will get another comments i will order a new USB board.

[Question] Loading Z Ultra as a USB device

Hi all
I managed to format everything on my Z ultra
Now while I check all the recovery softwares they need that my Ultra should be added as a USB device. But it always connects as a Media device
I tried switching on the USB debugging but still its the same
Can anyone help me with adding my ZU as USB device and recovering my data ??
P.S. : The device is not rooted and I am on the 4.3 update which released yesterday,
Thanks
Hmm, enabling USB Debugging usually kicks mine into USB mode, but the times when that doesn't happen i try another USB port on my laptop and it works. You can also try these apps: Click and click.

Sorry if this is irrelevant... but maybe this is what you are talking about?
If you want your device to be in MSC (Mass storage mode), which is like external HDD and not the MTP (Media transfer mode) then go into
settings -> Xperia Connectivity -> USB connectivity and choose MSC

Nopes it does not work. May be if you are rooted it would work.
Still nothing. I am losing all hopes that I can recover any data from the phone
