Anyone else randomly get a line of dead pixels across there phone? Any idea what could have caused this? Or if it can be fixed?
I have had this phone for over a month now and don't really want to have to return to t mobile for a "like new" phone. This phone is in perfect condition, I have had it in a silicone case with screen protector since it was out of the box.. And has never been dropped once.
Any ideas for me?

Fortunately, no, I don't have that problem. But, I have seen cases where a scratch on a screen will show a 'rainbow' effect seeming just like dead pixels. Not on this phone, though. Knock on wood.
I have a little rainbow line in my Vibrant but I dont know if its for the screen protector and i dont want to remove it
Called cc and they are going to send me a like new.. Seems like its all I can do

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have a single dead pixel in my vibrant screen as well.
this sucks, bc i took all that time to root my phone and got it running with the rom and kernel of my liking and now i have a dead pixel in the screen that bothers the hell out of me.
i have tried running strobe light, and also pixel fixer from the market with no luck...
people with dead pixels should all post in here so we can compile a list.
I had the problem of the "rainbow line" that I thought were dead pixels. Turns out it was indeed the InvisibleShield screen protector as others have suggested. Removed it, put on Real Look, problem is gone. Screen is beautiful.
no i can confirm I def. have a single solid dead black pixel... i have tried everything, but no luck.
I am going to wait until next year, and let this phone get all mangled/used and then call CC before the 1yr stock manufacture warranty is up and get a brand new device...
sucks ill have to go through all the root steps again, but a 500+ dollar phone should not have dead pixels in less than 2 months of ownership. (SAMOLED is not perfected yet? shortage and new 5.5billion $amsung factory????)
i think we should sticky this, from what i can tell from searching and scouring google - many owners are having similar issues with dead and stuck pixels...
some are able to fix, but most are not.
it would be nice to see just how many vibrant users are having this issue, or SGS users across all carriers for that matter? (vibrant seems to have the best display, as ive had them all side-by-side).
Mods, Admins? can we get this going?
phones aren't any different than tv's or monitors....you get dead pixels on occasion over time
1 dead pixel isn't going to kill ya, live with it or get a refurb replacement
I've seen quite a few posts regarding returning GTablet's because of a dead pixel. Is this a realistic concern of trouble to come? I paid for it so it should be perfect? or buyers regret with an easy escape clause?
I'm asking because I have a dead pixel but it doesn't bother me as long as I know it's not going to be infectious... anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks
I've got no dead pixels on my GTab, at least none that I've noticed. However my Samsung desktop monitors each have a dead pixel (one turns white instead of black, one just doesn't work). They've been that way since day one, and are 3 years old. No sign of them 'spreading' to other pixels.
I exchanged a Gtab because of dead pixel (snapped and got a refund when the second one had bigger problems). It seems to me like on a touchscreen device, the most important thing is a the screen. If the screen is having problems from day one, I don't trust the device. I'd return it.

See I have similar experiences with LCD's as well so I never even thought about returning it. Didn't know if there was something different about these touchscreens that would be cause for concern.
So I work for Sprint, and I just got my replacement and come to find it has 2 dead pixels. I'm within my 30 days but what you guys think? keep replacing until I get one with clearly 0 dead pixels? anyone else get bothered by 1 dead pixel or what.... the first evo 3-d had 4 dead pixels.
yes, who the hell wants to have a screen with dead pixels? I certainly would not pay for that.. others have returned it.
I am going on my 4th evo but for hw related problems such as locking, not charging etc. if i got one that had a deal pixel.. it would go back to HTC/sprint.

+1 and you work for sprint. I work for a bottled water company. If I got a bad bottle or my cooler wasn't working correctly I'd want it replaced asap.

yeah me either....id like to see these dea pixels if u can post a PIC.....also i thought someone said that theres an app that can detect if u have dea pixels.....anyone know what its called?
I would not keep a phone with a dead pixel and i didn't, went through a few of them. to me it's a defect, what's the reason to not return a brand new device if it has a defect. but on the other hand that might sound like i am spoiled, the phone still works the same even if there is one dead pixel.
Yeah, to me, a dead pixel is a defect. I would not pay $200 for a brand new phone and settle for it to be in less than perfect condition. You can download "Dead Pixel Test" from the market. It just displays solid colored screens, which make it easier for you to spot a dead pixel.

yeah its in the Market called "Dead Pixel Test" it goes through all the colors to see if you have stuck or dead pixel's. I haven't see any yet and have had 2 E3D's.
I have a stuck pixel, on green. It's really only noticeable when using the camera. I'm going to exchange it since I can, otherwise it's something I can live with.
ive never had a phone with a dead pixel..or maybe i've never noticed it..hmmmm

Probably the latter.
My recommendation is if you do not see it, don't go looking for it. Odds are you will probably find 1 or 2 but if you do not know it is there, then who really cares.
Also, the pixel is not dead unless it stays black. What everyone is seeing is a stuck pixel and it is very common on these screens.
My first 3D had a stuck pixel. This one all pixels are good but there is a big-ass speck of dust under screen. I hate to do this, but I'm gonna have to go back and either have it cleaned or replaced. On another note...my 3G is kicking ass today with the stock EVRC Home and Roaming settings in my living room! An average of 5 tests 1090kbps D/L 410kbps U/L here in Tacoma, WA...not bad! Hope this lasts!!
So today I got my 3rd replacement and it actually has more dead pixels then the 2nd replacement... The 2nd one I think im going to keep since its 1 pixel on the screen and 2 on the bottom near the buttons... I don't want to keep having to do return kits and fighting for credits... its harder for us that work at sprint because we don;t get the exchanges in-store everything is online...
boy do you have that right... if you don't see a dead pixel don't go looking for one!
many years ago I bought a hans g monitor from newegg that was on super sale... so cheap it sold out fast...
so everyone was reporting anywhere from one or more dead or stuck pixels. the people with the stuck pixels were for the most post able to fix them by gently massaging them. a few had the pixels stay stuck. others had dead pixels.
I personally have a few in a horizontal line. they are stuck in a dark grey which could have really been much worse.
but after so many years, the monitor with stuck pixels is still worth they price I paid. sure, we paid good money for our phones, and I do expect a product that is one hundred percent, but if the pixel is out if the way or isn't easily noticed, why not keep it?
then again, our vision is concentrated in a much smaller area so it might be really bad. but either way, while curious I won't be checking for damaged pixels! cause that might just drive me insane because you can't un-see what you have seen lol

3 dead pixels here I think, but you only see em if you staring at a lit screen with nothing on it... And if you doing that then you just tryna find a complaint

I am still up in the fence about returning my phone because of one tiny stuck pixel.
I think the question is, how many EVO's would I need to go through to get one without. I am guessing a lot more people have stuck pixels that just don't know about because they haven't found them yet.
I think the odds of getting a perfect screen are probably far less then getting one with stuck pixels.
As the 30 days grows closer this decison is becoming harder and harder and I keep talking myself out of the return thinking I might get something worse but I am just not happy with non-perfection!

Maybe you exchange the one you have now and if it has problems you should return it and wait for the next hardware version. Maybe it will have less problems.

So I bit the bullet and went for the exchange.
I am happy to say that the new device has no dead pixels! What is does have a the slightly crooked screen but I would have never even known what that was if not reading it on here so I can live with that over dead pixels.
Also, my screens colors seem so much better on this one. Maybe the misaligned screens are the ones with the whiter whites because it definitely looks better?
One thing I found weird was the lock screen was set on the weather one. My first one was not...It was definitely an un-opened box and I didn't even think about till hours after when I was like, um I didn't change my locks screen and it had the weather one as default.
Anyone, much happier with this one....

I will tell you but in all honesty if you haven't found one, I wouldn't go looking for it.
In the market if you search pixel, there is something called dead pixel test or something like that. It cycles through different colors. The most popular culprits will usually show on the black screen.
Go into a dark room and turn the brightness up. What you usually will see are bright white spots on the black screen which would be the stuck pixels.
Only the strong hearted and non OCD people should do this....Although any OCD person probably won't be able to control the urge to search for it now.
Two small pinpoints of white light on the screen. Are these dead pixels? Stuck Pixels?
I'm guessing that either way I should exchange it. So, apparently Asus is going to be having quality issues?

let it load
select "fix my screen"
if it doesnt go away after it runs... if it doesnt auto close after a minute, just close it
its a dead pixel
return son!
No dice. Thanks anyway.
Guess this bad boy is going back...
I got a replacement Prime yesterday and thought everything was perfect until I opened my web browser to google, which is pretty much all white and noticed a bright spot like you are describing in the title. Mine are definitely NOT stuck/dead pixels. I know because I returned my first one in part because of stuck pixels. It's almost like these pixel(s) allow slightly more light through than the adjacent pixels. Sort of like light bleed but not at the edge of the screen. I can only see it on white or very, very light backgrounds. It disappears entirely on darker colors.
It is unfortunate but I will not replace this again for a third time. It goes away unless my Prime is charging or docked (which I assume is because it is similar to the tablet being plugged in) and can only be seen on an all white background. I will never use my tablet plugged in, I charge it at night when I sleep, and the limited amount I have it docked is not an issue since it only shows up on an all white background and seems less noticeable than a dead/stuck pixel. Honestly, a smudged screen is more noticeable/annoying. Since I don't use my dock much it will probably end up having a dead battery anyway which means I really wouldn't see it much, unless the battery in the dock is required for it to function while attached, I'm not sure but will find out. Thinking about it I guess it probably does need to be charged for the ports and everything to work unless it leaches off the tablet. Who knows...I'll test it at some point.
It is kind of strange though and I really dislike trying to justify a flaw to keep a $500 device but whatever. IPS screens have some nice benefits but they seem to have a lot of flaws too like bright spots, pretty bad light bleed and more stuck pixels than I am used too. I went back and forth in my OCD head so many times about how many times I would exchange or return this device before I get one that is pristine but if I return it there is nothing else that interests me.
Asus had quality issues with their past Transformer and to think the 1080p tablet will be any different is ignorant.
Anyway, end blog. Since that's what XDA is now

If it's only 2 pixels and they are not directly adjacent, it's unlikely that they will take it back as that is deemed an acceptable tolerance for dead/stuck pixels. I think you need to have 5 or more total or 2 directly adjacent.
Pretty much all manufacturers use this guideline I believe. I hope I am wrong and you do get to exchange it.

I had one dead pixel on my Xoom and Best Buy replaced it without even turning it on to verify
I had two stuck pixels when I first got my Prime. Running pixel fixer apps didn't fix the problem. However, both of them have "unstuck" themselves after a few days of use. If you have some time before you have to return it, you may want to wait a little.
EDIT: Check that. I just ran a dead pixel test and only one of the two unstuck itself. The other one is so unnoticeable to me that I haven't seen it.

Same issue here, bottom right of the screen, small patch of white light in the browser window about an inch from the corner..
Not sure whether to return, the rest of the tablet is awesome!!
I just got another one and about 7 dead pixels the kind you can see on
Black screens and also slightly a bit of light bleed where the headphone jack is

Hi.
Basically I bought a Nexus 9 and noticed a Dead Pixel (or something of the sort, I have no idea what it is) in the lower left portion of the screen. I contacted Google Support once, and they told me they can't give me a replacement. It was at this point I rang the next day and said I wanted to return it (I'd only had it 2 days) and they said a Dead Pixel does warrant a replacement. Now, on the return email it said that Google Specialists will take a look at the faulty tablet, and if deemed fine will ask me to return the replacement. Considering the first Google employee I spoke to said this was not an issue, is there a chance I'll have to send a replacement back and be stuck with my original one? That dead pixel was driving me absolutely nuts. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the returns procedure of Google.
Thanks.
Depending on the country you live there are laws that over write what goggle will tell you. A dead pixel is a definite fault that warrants a return. In the old days led monitors had a dead pixel clause. Less than 3 didn't warrant a return. These days 1 is a reason.

I'm from the UK but the fact 1 is a reason is comforting.
Thanks for the reply though. The returns process has been extremely good, I rang yesterday to arrange a replacement and it has been shipped today already, I'll probably get it tomorrow
From the UK here, I requested an RMA last Thursday due to a dead pixel and screen bleed. The process for me was really straightforward once I had rang them. They sent a replacement unit through yesterday but unfortunately that's even worse than my original. So I rang them again and they were really helpful. I've requested a refund so I'm going to send back my old unit first then they will send more shipping materials to send back my replacement then refund my money once it's all complete. Hope it all carries on as smooth as it has so far.

Ah, guess you got quite lucky. The first time there seemed to be an absolute doughnut on the other end of the phone. He couldn't comprehend what a dead pixel was, got me send him a photo and then replies saying they can't replace it.
I had a bit more luck the second time round, my plan was to just straight up return it and just buy a new one with the refunded money. The woman asked why I wanted to return it, I explained the situation and she said she can arrange a replacement for me right now. The only thing I'm worried about is whether it's a dead pixel or not. Aren't dead pixels normally black? This is like really white, it might be a scratch on the inner surface of the screen or something, but it shows up on all backgrounds apart from Black. I guess we'll see what happens once I return it.
Are you thinking of buying another one with the refunded money? I can't wait to get my hands on a perfect one, it was just buttery smooth and such a pleasure to use. It's got such a premium feel to it, gives the iPad a run for it's money.
Dead pixels don't necessarily mean black.
It could mean, its RGB toggles are out of whack, and end up lighting up fully, causing full bright white.
If that's the case, you have grounds for a refund / exchange. Under UK's Distance Selling Regulations, which is now changed to Consumer Contracts Regulations, you are able to return it within 7 WORKING days (essentially, could last from a Friday to the Tuesday, 11 days later) of receiving your goods.
If Google gives you this dead pixel policy BS, then UK law will override it. If however you're over the 7 day period, it gets a little tricky, but you're still protected from the Sale of Goods Act 1979, which states that sellers must provide replacements, or refunds on defective products.
And a dead pixel is a clear defect, for you, for me, for the judge, and jury.

I'm of the same opinion on the tablet, absolutely love it. I think I'm going to wait it out for a couple of months until they sort their QC issues out, but I'm definitely going to get another one.:good:
