Dead Pixel Worries? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen quite a few posts regarding returning GTablet's because of a dead pixel. Is this a realistic concern of trouble to come? I paid for it so it should be perfect? or buyers regret with an easy escape clause?
I'm asking because I have a dead pixel but it doesn't bother me as long as I know it's not going to be infectious... anyone have any thoughts?

I've got no dead pixels on my GTab, at least none that I've noticed. However my Samsung desktop monitors each have a dead pixel (one turns white instead of black, one just doesn't work). They've been that way since day one, and are 3 years old. No sign of them 'spreading' to other pixels.

I exchanged a Gtab because of dead pixel (snapped and got a refund when the second one had bigger problems). It seems to me like on a touchscreen device, the most important thing is a the screen. If the screen is having problems from day one, I don't trust the device. I'd return it.

See I have similar experiences with LCD's as well so I never even thought about returning it. Didn't know if there was something different about these touchscreens that would be cause for concern.

dead pixels on your vibrant?

Anyone else randomly get a line of dead pixels across there phone? Any idea what could have caused this? Or if it can be fixed?
I have had this phone for over a month now and don't really want to have to return to t mobile for a "like new" phone. This phone is in perfect condition, I have had it in a silicone case with screen protector since it was out of the box.. And has never been dropped once.
Any ideas for me?

Fortunately, no, I don't have that problem. But, I have seen cases where a scratch on a screen will show a 'rainbow' effect seeming just like dead pixels. Not on this phone, though. Knock on wood.
I have a little rainbow line in my Vibrant but I dont know if its for the screen protector and i dont want to remove it
Called cc and they are going to send me a like new.. Seems like its all I can do

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have a single dead pixel in my vibrant screen as well.
this sucks, bc i took all that time to root my phone and got it running with the rom and kernel of my liking and now i have a dead pixel in the screen that bothers the hell out of me.
i have tried running strobe light, and also pixel fixer from the market with no luck...
people with dead pixels should all post in here so we can compile a list.
I had the problem of the "rainbow line" that I thought were dead pixels. Turns out it was indeed the InvisibleShield screen protector as others have suggested. Removed it, put on Real Look, problem is gone. Screen is beautiful.
no i can confirm I def. have a single solid dead black pixel... i have tried everything, but no luck.
I am going to wait until next year, and let this phone get all mangled/used and then call CC before the 1yr stock manufacture warranty is up and get a brand new device...
sucks ill have to go through all the root steps again, but a 500+ dollar phone should not have dead pixels in less than 2 months of ownership. (SAMOLED is not perfected yet? shortage and new 5.5billion $amsung factory????)
i think we should sticky this, from what i can tell from searching and scouring google - many owners are having similar issues with dead and stuck pixels...
some are able to fix, but most are not.
it would be nice to see just how many vibrant users are having this issue, or SGS users across all carriers for that matter? (vibrant seems to have the best display, as ive had them all side-by-side).
Mods, Admins? can we get this going?
phones aren't any different than tv's or monitors....you get dead pixels on occasion over time
1 dead pixel isn't going to kill ya, live with it or get a refurb replacement

Dead Pixels......

Ok.... so I was reading on several boards where people have been exchanging their EVO 3Ds because of dead pixels.
Now, I know what a dead pixel is....I remember them quite vividly in the early days of laptops. But those pixels were quite easy to see and stuck out like tiny beacons in the night.
I've not seen anything like that on any of my smartphones. But here I was, reading notes from people who were complain about a *single* dead pixel.
So following their lead, I go out to the market and download one of the many programs that are designed to help you detect dead pixels....
A short psychedelic trip later and I am now aware of two small dead pixels on my EVO 3D.
But to be absolutely truthful, I never would have found these with my naked eyes (or naked hands, or naked feet for that matter)....
So what do you think? Should I take it back and exchange it? Or just let it be?

Personal choice, really it's up to you. I had one with a dead pixel and exchanged it just because it's a brand new phone, it should look like a brand new phone to me. I am very particular on the cosmetic things when I get a new phone. This is just my opinion though, its a critical reason for exchange but they can't say no.
If you cant see it even after knowing where it is without that program then no... Its very normal for a pixel to be dead... have to remember how many pixels are on each of these screens.

I got a replacement Prime yesterday and thought everything was perfect until I opened my web browser to google, which is pretty much all white and noticed a bright spot like you are describing in the title. Mine are definitely NOT stuck/dead pixels. I know because I returned my first one in part because of stuck pixels. It's almost like these pixel(s) allow slightly more light through than the adjacent pixels. Sort of like light bleed but not at the edge of the screen. I can only see it on white or very, very light backgrounds. It disappears entirely on darker colors.
It is unfortunate but I will not replace this again for a third time. It goes away unless my Prime is charging or docked (which I assume is because it is similar to the tablet being plugged in) and can only be seen on an all white background. I will never use my tablet plugged in, I charge it at night when I sleep, and the limited amount I have it docked is not an issue since it only shows up on an all white background and seems less noticeable than a dead/stuck pixel. Honestly, a smudged screen is more noticeable/annoying. Since I don't use my dock much it will probably end up having a dead battery anyway which means I really wouldn't see it much, unless the battery in the dock is required for it to function while attached, I'm not sure but will find out. Thinking about it I guess it probably does need to be charged for the ports and everything to work unless it leaches off the tablet. Who knows...I'll test it at some point.
It is kind of strange though and I really dislike trying to justify a flaw to keep a $500 device but whatever. IPS screens have some nice benefits but they seem to have a lot of flaws too like bright spots, pretty bad light bleed and more stuck pixels than I am used too. I went back and forth in my OCD head so many times about how many times I would exchange or return this device before I get one that is pristine but if I return it there is nothing else that interests me.
Asus had quality issues with their past Transformer and to think the 1080p tablet will be any different is ignorant.
Anyway, end blog. Since that's what XDA is now

If it's only 2 pixels and they are not directly adjacent, it's unlikely that they will take it back as that is deemed an acceptable tolerance for dead/stuck pixels. I think you need to have 5 or more total or 2 directly adjacent.
Pretty much all manufacturers use this guideline I believe. I hope I am wrong and you do get to exchange it.

I had one dead pixel on my Xoom and Best Buy replaced it without even turning it on to verify
I had two stuck pixels when I first got my Prime. Running pixel fixer apps didn't fix the problem. However, both of them have "unstuck" themselves after a few days of use. If you have some time before you have to return it, you may want to wait a little.
EDIT: Check that. I just ran a dead pixel test and only one of the two unstuck itself. The other one is so unnoticeable to me that I haven't seen it.

Same issue here, bottom right of the screen, small patch of white light in the browser window about an inch from the corner..
Not sure whether to return, the rest of the tablet is awesome!!
I just got another one and about 7 dead pixels the kind you can see on
Black screens and also slightly a bit of light bleed where the headphone jack is

One Dead Pixel - One Poxy Dead Green Pixel

Pretty much as the title says to be honest, have had the phone 14 days but three are being gits about the exchanging it for no particular reason.
I have tried downloading and installing any and every free pixel fixer from the Market and left them running any where from 2-30 mins.
Like I say its one green pixel right in the middle of the top third of the screen.
Any suggestions please or home made remedies, I have been advised about running a magnet over it quickly but not really keen n doing that to be honest.

Well most dead pixel fixers should run for hours and not minutes... Also, there's the pressure technique which consists of pressing down on the dead pixel. Only catch is you can't really do that with the SGS2 because of the glass. So your best bet is return the phone for warranty replacement (If possible)
U said it is a dead pixel and u want to cure it using old tech used for LCD screens.
Our GS2 has AMOLED screen which is different from LCD.
LCD pixels physically twist to let block or allow light through them which is why they get stuck.Here all those apps or home remedies may work.
For an AMOLED pixel to get "stuck", it would have to burn out meaning it would be permanently black, or if the controller had a short that for some reason continually told a particular pixel to stay a particular color.
To make long story short-claim factory warranty ASAP.

One Dead Pixel

I have one dead pixel. And minor light bleed negligible.
Worth exchanging at best buy? Neither really boither me but that one dead pixel plagues my mind.
Also if device acts up after 14 day best buy grace period how would i rma it? Should i have gotten bestbuy protection plan?

You say neither bother you but the dead pixel "plagues my mind". A dead pixel would annoy me and I'd go for an exchange personally. Thing is with dead pixels, once seen they can't be unseen easily and you'll keep seeing it, go for an exchange is my advice.
Light bleed is part of the technology, and it varies between devices, hard to find a display devoid of it completely. If you look at any TFT display with a black screen that has a bright back light, light leaks through unevenly to some degree. If it worries you it is case of finding a good example, which isn't always easy unless you can unbox an unlimited number of them and try before you buy.

Agree. Return/exchange it. After 14 days, it goes to htc for warranty repair.
