[Q] Best Performance & Battery boost Rom for S4 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have a Canadian Glalaxy S4 SGH-M919V from Wind Mobile. On 4.2.2. Since I bought the phone, the battery was dying pretty quick, with the new updates to 4.1... and now 4.2.2, the battery dies much quicker and performance is just awful, the phone freezes a lot, won't unlock for a minute or so after freezing. The developers have promised the battery fix with each new update, but they keep making it worst and slower with no promised battery fix, and this is not how S4 should work, the system is powerful enough to run quick without freezing and battery should last long, but after using it for 1 hour a day, I have to charge it every night.
-So my question is, which custom rom is the fastest and has a good battery life for M919V. I would like to have all features still working, wifi tethering.... -Also would I have to flash modem to fix any problems like 4G not working when calling and when screen is locked? What is the best Lerner for my phone and what do I need to do/install to have everything working without any problems. Thanks guys, waiting on your replies. Tired of my S4 being slow and dying quick... :crying:

Bump

This section is for Android Wear. Your question got nothing to do with Android Wear. So please go and post to thread specific for your device and not here!!

No need to be rude. The forum is confusing with all these sections. If you want to sound nice, you should say next time: "wrong section for questions, here _____ is where you should ask this, Good luck"
Next time please show some respect to new members

Didn't mean to be so rude. It's just that is not related to your device anyway and maby none of people reading this topic don't even own device you are talking about. Top if this page has input field that says "Type To Find Your Device...". Try putting your model number there to find right thread (I would do that for you but it's not so good to find it now since I'm typing from my phone). Best luck

It's all good I found the the right section, it was just a little confusing lol

[Q] Battery Hunger and slowness after Rooting.

Hello People,
As you can see im new to this community, i hope i won´t bother you so much.
I got an S3 myselft and unlocked it right away before even using it. Did use Samsung S3 Toolkit , which i think its a great tool and this forum is a huge palace full of incredible geniuses so i´m really grateful for what is has done for me already.
As i stated in the title i´ve been getting serious problems after rooting my phone , everything working fine. or i think it is. But the UI in general became slow as hell , it crawls on the floor , pressing the menu butom to go back takes from 5 to 8 seconds to respond onto something , no matter what , oppening applications is not that slow but switching pages or screens is LAGGY as hell. I tried full wipe , cache wipe , before and after flashing.
Actually using this rom I9300UBEMA1_I9300UVOELL1_ARO its the Non branded version of my Local Firmwar (Argentina) , the kernel i use if the one that comes with Samsung S3 toolkit 7.0.0 the 4.1.2 unrooted version for JZ054K.ELLA ( file name :boot-insecure-ella-GTI9300 )
The original Firm and kernel the phone had was the 4.0.4 "Personal" Branded BLG6 Kernel.
I know this phone is already known as a battery killer , but i didn´t spected to be that kind of slow to crawl device. I´ve already tried multiple task killer apps like AutoKill or ES task manager , Better battery stats to check battery drain but still cannot find a reason. Tried Juice Defender Ultimate on Extreme settings. And did nothing to my battery life.
Then Looking for some Customized roms i found out 2 that took my attention :
One of them is Omega and the other is Android Revolution HD, which one of these are going to have a possitive effect on performance gain + battery economy without overkilling phone capabilities ? . Is that the answer? or are there any real app / patch that could really resolve this issue.
Well people im sorry if this question sounds quite stupid or bothers some people but i already researched more than 200+ hours and i couldn´t find the exact point where i should be heading to solve this.
I would start with a fairly, near to stock Rom, I won't suggest any, just go to development and read up on the Roms, but also try a custom kernel.
Don't use task killers, they are counter productive if not used right.
I would also suggest going through what you have enabled, the smart features can heavily affect battery, also poor signal, and it might well be you need to check your modem (baseband) and see if there are other more suitable ones.
Keep reading and searching and you will develop a good understanding of various ways to make this phone fly, just don't rush things.
And, backup, backup, backup! Enjoy
Better Battery Stats and Greenify from the market may help .

He's right, try flashing a more popular widely used stock firmware like the XXELLA rom or the recently released ones. Also do post screenshots of BetterBatteryStats.. Kernel wakelocks are major reasons why battery drains. Often IM+Social Media apps use network data in the background and are culprits behind wakelocks.
I for one can confirm the Facebook native app as being a major contributor to the problem.
You should also check if "Fast Dormancy" is supported by your carrier or not? FD is by default enabled on the S3, disabling can save substantial amount of battery life. You can do so by downloading "Fast Dormancy Toggle App" from PlayStore.
As for custom roms, it really depends on user experience. I have used Omega rom and it easily lasted a day and half for me with good usage.
Currently I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1 and it lasts me 2 days

[Q] Severe Battery Drain With Any Custom ROM!

Hey guys. I have been using this site for a while and have just made a new account. I look forward to some helpful chaps
PHONE: GALAXY ACE GT-S5830
I have installed 4 different types of Cyanogenmod (CM 10.1 Pro, etc.) and have found a problem. Even after battery calibration (thank google play ) i have always received severe battery drain. Eg. I would leave my phone on charge overnight. In the morning I would wake up and I could basically watch it go down like a timer. About 2 minutes after unplugging the phone it would have gone down to 81%, even without using the phone!
I know this isn't the ROM's fault since it has happened on numerous ROM's, as I said.
Also, after it reaches about 20% it sometimes slows down the drainage.
I don't get this problem on the stock ROM. I really want to use the stock ROM and UI (TW) cause its got many features, but wanna keep Jellybean cause of BBM for Android coming out soon. If there is any type of ROM which looks just like the original Stock ROM for SGA but with JB installed, could someone please point me in the right direction for it?
Many Regards & looking forward to a ahppy community, HelloMrBrandon. :highfive:
Update: BTW I know I shouldn't post Q&A here. But I couldn't find the right spot for them. Sooooorrryyyyy!

Android 4.3 is draining my battery on standby!

Hi XDA
I literally don't know what to do with my Samsung Galaxy SIII for a bout half a year ago i updated my phone to Android 4.3 and things went a bit weird. First thing I noticed was that the phone was really slow to wake up from standby, sometimes I had to take out the battery because nothing happen. The second thing is that it sometimes get really hot even on standby. I can't make it though half a day without charging my phone! Today it got mad at my phone again and was searching around the web for a solution, I came by lot of forums with people who was dealing with the same problem, but no fix able. I found a guy who had a an app which could register the battery usage in a graph. After running the app i noticed the same as the guy from the video - my phone is pretty normal on use, but then I turn the phone on standby it goes insane (look at the picture linked below)..
I don't know how to deal with the problem. I have gone though the applist to see any remarkable apps, but nothing has cough my attention.
I hope you guy are willing to help me - Save my phone!

Wrong phone forum!!!
Here is your phone forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3
Hi, did you solved your problem?
If not, i'd recommend System Panel app. Download it, install, launch. Then go to Menu->Settings, check Enable monitoring option. Then let your phone to be in idle mode several hours - maybe before going to bed. After it - go to SP->Menu->Monitoring->History (in bottom right corner)->Press chart in top left corner->Top apps. Then you'll see top applications that worked in idle mode.
For more information go to 4pda russian forum and search "Советы по улучшению энергосбережения устройств на Android OS" thread - google translate will helps
Try This,,,,,,
I think some app is malfunctioning , i would suggest using Greenify if u r rooted ,
And if u r on Stock ROM then i would suggest u to delete or disable the BLOATWARE.
It helped me hope this was helpful
4.3 on the S3 is extremely buggy especially without Samsung's patch ( which didn't do much ). There isn't much that you can do on stock Touchwiz, except maybe flash a custom kernel. I would suggest flashing a custom rom, but that is up to you. There are many choices for custom roms here including Touchwiz, if you like it.
I've been experiencing disappointing battery life since the android 4.3 update last month on my non-LTE t-mo galaxy s3. I know there's been a lot of discussion and advice by t-mo reps on various forums, but it simply isn't accurate. The party line is "something you installed on your phone is causing increased battery drain after the 4.3 update." However, my partner and I have two identical T-mo galaxy S3's. We have entirely different sets of apps installed on our phones. As soon as we installed the 4.3 update, both of our phones started to drain rapidly faster than before the update. On 4.2 our phones would last to 50% by the end of the day (~8pm) with light to moderate use. Now they're at ~20% by the end of the day, and I can see my battery levels drop faster just while using the phone. This is totally unacceptable. I've downloaded battery monitoring apps, and no apps I've installed are draining the battery, it's the system and kernel that take up most of the cpu. People are saying it's the touchwiz additions that are causing the system to use up more cpu cycles. I refuse to do a factory reset because there's so many reports of this not doing anything. There's clearly a bug in the 4.3 update for the SG3, unless it's touchwiz as everyone seems to indicate. How can I check to see if something is causing too many wakes?
4.3 works prefect here. same battery life as with 4.0 or 4.1.
it's not the fault of 4.3.

[Q] ROM with BEST battery life?

Hi
I'm new on this forum, have been lurking around before, but i digress.
I just got my SGII 2 days ago, and i'm in love with it (not literally, lol).
So, i already rooted it and today i backed up all my apps with Titanium Backup, and made a ROM backup with CWM.
Now, i find like many other users, that the battery life of JB is very poor on stock 4.2.1.
With WiFi on, and brightness settings on Auto, i lose about 2% in maybe 10-20 minutes.
When i game very shorty for only 5-6 mins i drop from 100% to 96 or 97% (don't know if this is normal or not with Minecraft and Asphalt 8, sometimes GTA 3 and Age of Zombies).
Now, with battery saving on, and brightness on the lowest settings (not auto), the battery life is alot better ofcourse, but still the battery drains pretty quickly when i'm playing a game (losing 3% maybe every 8 mins?).
Is this normal with JB or is there something wrong with my battery?
Also, if it's just the ROM, can you advice me a ROM with good battery life, preferably android 4.4?
Also, i read about Cyanogenmod 11, how is the battery on that ROM?
Thank's in advance!
Sorry if there'are any spelling errors, i'm Dutch
EDIT: sorry, my post was a bit incomplete
Battery resource usages.
Screen: 51%
Android-system 16%
Mobile standby 5%
Media server 3%
Those are some of the apps that eat up battery
3% in 30 to 40 minutes with Wi-Fi on?
I'd recommend you don't change a thing. Consider yourself fortunate because those are good numbers.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Sorry, corrected the post, 30-40 mins was incorrect
Also, another question, when installing a custom ROM, does it matter if it's a T-Mobile version or Vodafone?
Or doesn't that matter as long as its for the i9100?
Carrier specific custom roms ?? Not sure what you mean by that; there's no such thing.
If you mean 'Can I flash a stock rom for a different country or carrier ?', the answer is yes.
I strongly recommend you read the guides/tutorials stickied near the top of General section. This will give you a good grounding in 'the basics'. If you're going to be modding your phone at all, you'd much rather read & learn, rather than learn the hard way & end up with a busted phone.

[Q] Need help to find the reason of drastic battery life reduction

Hello guys,
I'm quite new here and to Android and that's probably what's causing my difficulty of finding a solution for my problem, so I'm hoping you guys can help me.
So all started a few months ago, when my brother decided to give me his 2 year S2, I was quite satisfied because it's in great condition. After a few months of using it I decided to go on and try some roms dor the sake of my boredom of Samsung's rom and for my will to discover. The rom I tried was Slimkat, it worked pretty good and it's awesome to customize but it was killing ny battery in 8 hours with medium to low use, it was kinda crazy... So I decided to roll back and restore the stock rom, I was successful and it's the one I still have at the moment, but the battery problem remains... I've tried two different batteries and it's always the same and I've run out of solutions that I know.
tl;dr - my battery was fine before I started to play around with roms and after I restored the stock rom the problem remained. The battery itself isn't the problem because I've tried two others.
So I hope you can help me, if you need any other information, I'll be glad to add it.
Regards and thanks in advance
BetterBatteryStats; find the thread devoted to it on here & install it (or get it from Google Play), let it run for a day/whatever, and post the BBS logs to the BBS thread - people who post their regularly should be able to help you track down what's causing drain. You could post them to this thread, but with such little traffic in Q&A these days, you could be waiting a fair while for meaningful help (I.E help that's actually useful Vs people who don't know what they're talking about).
