[Q] Android 5.0 Lollipop on AT&T HTC One (M8) - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I know very little about Android and ROMs in general, but what is the easiest way to get the stablest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop on my rooted M8? Are there ROMs out there that offers the stock Android 5.0 experience currently? If there is: are there any additional steps to make it compatible with my phone apart from the steps taken to root it originally?
I would love someone to help me out
Thanks

I believe the only 5.0 ROM is the GPE SkyDragon ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391
You will need to have s-off and update your firmware to 3.x base, or you will have broken WiFi.
Android 5.0 has only been released on GPE at this time. 5.0 with Sense is coming within a month. After that, you will see custom ROMs with that base. But we won't see an official AT&T LP version for some time (we are still waiting for 4.4.4 coming mid-December).

Wait, what, I don't see L being pushed to the M8 GPE yet. Is this confirmed?

Havent heard of official release yet. I believe the latest official is still 2.12.1700
Quick search shows its been delayed

Is that 2.12.1700.1 or dome other version. I believe I've seen 2.12.1700.5 before. So, I guess official GPE firmwares follow the 2.12 format ? Is this correct ?

My bad, the GPE Lollipop was supposed to rollout 11/21, but I'm just seeing it was delayed at the last minute (haven't really been keeping up). Skydragon is based on a leak, I believe. There is also the following ROM, based on the same leak, but more stockish:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716306
I didn't read that much of the thread. Its posted in the Verizon M8 section, but claims to be "MULTICARRIER" and therefore have GSM base as well. Read up and confirm before you flash, if anything.

Whatever the official release was, wasnt sure of the whole build number, but I know its not the one 3.XX build released by skydragon. As stated above that build is a leaked build. The build numbers will increase, nobody knows what final build number will be till either an ota is captured or a ruu is found.

[Q] are the OTA C6806 GPe updates still possible

Hi,
I recently got a new Z Ultra GPe as a replacement to my old one. I had OS version 5.0.1 before but the replacement I received is 4.4 and tells me that my phone is up to date. I expected I would get updates but that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know if the OTA updates are still around and if I should be getting them by the normal method (rather then having to manually sideload)? For my needs I'm ok with a the non-rooted stock experience so I don't really want to deviate from that (and I don't really want to void my warranty as I have had to rely on that already). Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I looks like the OTA was pulled (well no longer being pushed) just before Christmas. The 5.0.1 is a little buggy so I would stay on 4.4.4.
Also note that there is no safe way to revert to 4.4.x from 5.0.x unless you root on 4.4.4 and back up the TA.

Thanks, but I have 4.4 and not 4.4.4. Version 4.4 is super buggy and basically not usable. 5.0.1 was very usable in my opinion. If I can get from 4.4 to 4.4.4 that would be a great place to start. If I remember correctly there were three updates to get from 4.4 to 4.4.4.
If the OTAs are pulled, then why are phones with 4.4 being released into the users hands? I'll have to talk to google support about this. Is anyone else in the same boat I am?
Is only the 4.4.2 OTA not being pushed, or are all Z Ultra GPe updates not being pushed?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what ones aren't being pushed any more, but they were all still being pushed just before christmass. You could put 4.4.2 on a SD card and flash that from recovery and see if the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 OTAs arrive, if not they are archived in the GPe section and I have copies here as well.
Either way I would root 4.4.4 and do a TA backup, it will give you many more options if you ever need to roll back for any reason.
Bugs of note on 5 are:
memory leak
some wifi issues for some users
I have micro hangs (may well be from the memory leak)
OK. Thanks. I am going to do the process here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2761698 (different method but same result) to get to 4.4.2 and see what happens.

[Q] Is it just me, or is everyone with S-on stuck?

I am fairly new to the whole ROM thing on this device. I have experience with older phones and am just getting back into this recently. That being said...
Current state is: Bootloader unlocked, currently running stock 4.4.4, Sense 6.0, Kernel 3.4.0-g931e842, Build 3.42.502.1 CL441323; ROM applied via RUU. (RUU_M8_[email protected]41216A_40.34.C35006.02_F_release_407726_signed_2)
Bottom line is that since I have attempted to root and flash ROMs I have had issues with making and/or receiving calls, or no SIM recognized at all, requiring S-off/firmware upgrades, etc.
I am looking for a stable build ROM which is compatible with the 4.4.4 firmware on my device which can be applied without obtaining s-off. Main goal is to be able to personalize the UI and to run a faster, debloated ROM.
Tried first using Renovate 5.0... could not receive calls on that one.
Removed. back to stock.
Next I found a Lollipop 5.0.1 ROM (HTC_One_M8_Lollipop_5.0.1LRX22C) which did not appear to require firmware updates... seemed to work great... except that I could not receive calls...
Removed... back to stock.
Next, I used ViperOneM8 and really liked it, but had to abandon once I was told by people that they were still getting sent straight to voice mail.
I did get some calls, so I tested having some people call me and it seemed fine... well turned out that during those tests I was on the 3G network... Once again, troubleshot down to the fact that anytime I was on 4G network I could not receive calls. Having had no way to change my network selection in this ROM (error was displayed when I attempted this). Contacted their support to confirm my issue. They are aware, no resolution available.
Removed... back to stock.
So my question is, are there any options OTHER THAN paying $25 to use Sunshine to get S-off, upgrade firmware? I am not a developer and I love my M8. I know there are people here who know exactly what I need and understand what I am looking for. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I can't tell what ROM your are talking about based on that description. Possibly GPE stock rooted?
What I can tell you, is that most any Lollipop Sense ROM will have issues when used alongside 4.4.4 firmware.
Sense 4.4.4 ROMs will play well with your firmware, as will a number of 4.4.4 and 5.0 GPE and AOSP ROMs (that specifically state they support 4.4.4 firmware). However, when it comes to AT&T, there is more at play then whether the ROM corresponds to the firmware. That other complication is that AT&T does some annoyingly unique things with their network. In the past, this has included changes to build.prop and even the signal icons, which sometimes caused "international" custom ROMs to have some issues. And now you see that their HD Voice (Voice over LTE) is messing with some custom ROMs. As the other thread you posted in mentioned "blame AT&T".
Running an AT&T base 4.4.4 ROM is your best bet for trouble-free use on AT&T's network. WNC's ROM might fit the bill for what you want (debloated) and is often where I send folks that want a bug-free experience on AT&T (while retaining some AT&T specific features). The 3.28 version ROM is what you should try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
There are other ROMs that might work for you. But the above is my suggestion, at least as a start.

You are correct. It is a GPE stock rooted Lollipop ROM. It works just fine as long as I have 3G selected as my network, but it is just not as much flash as I wanted.
I am going to give the one you sited here a look and maybe give it a try. I appreciate your taking the time to reply. It was helpful and informative.
Erring on the Side of Caution
I'm in a similar quandry as the OP. I have lots of experience flashing ROMS on my older phones but trying to keep up with all the changes since getting my M8 has me confused.
Here's my current setup. I'm running Skydragon after trying the last 4.4 milestone of Liquidsmooth. I like both, but am interested in keeping up with the Lollipop guild.
I have Sunshine installed but when I ran it I found out I need to remove or disable Xposed Installer to continue. I'll deal with that by disabling it.
UPDATE: Well, that didn't work. Xposed was installed with the ROM and there's no option to uninstall it.
My biggest concern is updating the firmware. From my bootloader info, I'm assuming that I'm way behind on the latest firmware, but after reading so many threads about updating, my head is swimming.
If I need to update, I just want to make sure that I don't brick my phone.

Return to stock ROM and stock recovery, for optimal configuration for sunshine to work. RUU is probably the easiest way to get back to stock. Backup your personal data, than relock bootloader to run RUU.

Yes, based on your hboot number, your firmware is about as old as it gets (Android 4.4.2).
You can RUU to 4.4.4 firmware without s-off; and Lollipop Skydragon GPE should work fine with 4.4.4 firmware.
You can of course still s-off and update to Lollipop firmware. But you need to use some other firmware besides AT&T (such as Dev Edition, Euro, etc.), since they haven't released a Lollipop update (and therefore no firmware).

KitKat vs Lollipop?

My battered S4 is on its last legs, so I'll probably replace it with an S5. TMo lists it as coming with 4.4.2, but has an update to 5.0 available. So two questions: have you guys found any real advantages to using Lollipop? And if I gave it a go & liked KK better, can I revert back? Thanks!
I am sticking with KK for only 1 reason is that i am using "Safe Areas" app that its only work KK or 5.1 since 5.0 has a bug that it cant work well with it.
To revert from Lollipop to KK if i dislike it, yup gotta to have custom recovery/rooted and i dont update bootloader to OB1 (lollipop of an official firmware) its still on KK. I think when ya update bootloader to OB1 become to non-revert to KK.
Thank you, sir. It's good to know I can try both without having to commit to either one, at least initially.

[ROM] SkyDragon for HTC One M8 ATT

I am looking for the right SkyDragon ROM for my HTC One M8 on ATT. Looking at the SkyDragon page for their downloads, they have a bunch listed, but none say for ATT.
Tmobile & International- AFH
Verizon- AFH
Eragon-AFH
GPE-AFH
Which is the right one?
Thanks
Does not appear to be specifically for ATT, would have to use international build.

Any ROM meant for the "international" AKA "GSM" M8 will work on the AT&T version. They are actually all the same in hardware.
And yes, Skydragon Sense 7 is inclusive in the above statement; and will work fine on the AT&T version (not on SD right now, but was for a good amount of time). But its Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop), not 6. There is no Android 6 (Marshmallow) Sense ROM for this phone yet. The MM GPE ROM was just released, and that always comes before Sense (which will hopefully be soon).
But one important thing, your firmware (hboot, radio, etc.) needs to be up to date to run the current Lollipop ROMs (or GPE Marshmallow). If you were on stock LP when you unlocked the bootloader, you are good to go. If you were still on Kitkat, you will probably need to update the firmware before flashing Skydragon.

Wanting to Upgrade to Nougat

My phone is currently using VipreOneM9 3.5.0, my Android version is 5.1 Lollipop, and my HTC Sense version is 7.0. My carrier (and thus where I got my phone) is Sprint.
I've rooted plenty, but I've never had to unroot or update, usually by the time I feel the need to upgrade my phone's version it's time to just upgrade my phone anyway. I'd like to upgrade to Nougat, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to do and I want to make sure I don't screw it up and possibly brick my phone. I'm also wanting to upgrade to ViperOneM9 6.0, and since it's such a big jump I was told to just treat it like a new install instead of an upgrade.

I've been on AOSP for awhile now, did the official HTC Nougat update finally drop for Sprint M9's?
For LineageOS 14.1 builds by @irocevo, you'll need to:
Have, at the very least, an unlocked boot loader
Have TWRP 3.0.3-0 installed
Since you're currently on a Sense ROM, start from scratch (wipe boot, system, data, etc)
Don't forget the Nougat 7.1 GApps for ARM64

I'm not sure if it dropped or not, but either way I would actually like to just upgrade in general to whatever my phone has at the moment!
I unfortunately don't have my original OS also, so I can't flash to it. :/

I'm not sure what your preference is when it comes to Sense vs AOSP, but until HTC's Nougat update drops, the very latest that I am aware of is the LineageOS 14.1 I mentioned.
You don't need your original OS for LineageOS.

The first thing you should do is install the latest stock update for your device. Then you can upgrade to the latest version of Viper or any other Nougat that has support for Sprint handsets.

Go to this thread, in this forum, [RUU][Firmware][Stock Rooted ROM]Sprint HTC One M9 | 3.41.651.41 | Updated 12.14.16. Download the RUU 3.41.651.41. Follow the instructions in the OP. To the best of my knowledge, this is the latest firmware for the Sprint M9. Run the RUU first, then the ROM and everything else.

Sprint has not released a Nougat rom as of this time, so no there isn't a completely stock Nougat rom. However, I have Sprint HTC M9 and I am running a Nougat rom. Update your firmware to the latest, see a post or two above this. It is critical that you are on the latest firmware. Then after flashing TWRP, go to the HTC M9 thread, not the Sprint M9 thread. There are a couple of different Nougat roms in that thread. I am running the Vipre V6, flashed it a couple of days ago.
