Flashing Firmware and Modem won't erase any data, correct? Do we know of any specific benefits of the new firmware and modem? I know they are usually better but anyone familiar? Thanks.

Shouldn't erase any data. If you flash the full tar file, it'll wipe you. That's for flashing to stock. Just updating bootloader and modem shouldn't erase anything (unless you do something dumb).
New firmware (if you mean bootloader) really doesn't do much but some ROMs (mostly stock ones) make sure your bootloader is a certain version. We're on T-Mobile so there isn't much to worry about since their bootloaders are unlocked to begin with so far.
New modems usually incorporate fixes and what not, but it's really YMMV. I usually go with the latest and if it seems worse I would just go back. I've never had to do this before though. I either don't notice much change at all, or at least know it's not going backwards. As far as my experiences with T-Mo HTC HD2 on AT&T, AT&T S3, and T-Mo S5. =)
BTW, I'm on AT&T LTE with G900T.
And thanks OP. =)

Any plans to make this a rooted flashable zip? I was thinking about it, but haven't had the time yet.

For all you stock rooted peeps that could not OTA:
Flashing the full tar will not wipe phone IF coming from the stock rom. All data and apps in tact. But it will remove root (superuser still present but does not work) and it will replace your custom recovery with the stock recovery. Simple to get back root with CF Auto root, and you can either Odin a custom recovery or use something like TWRP Manager (root) to get back recovery.

Does anybody know what the improvements are over the NH5 Modem? I flashed, and everything is running great. The radio seems more "responsive" to tower hops, and latches faster. Seems more stable. Will update in a few days.

From what I read, it's more focused on improvements to sms/mms over wifi. Possibly some VoLTE improvements as well.

Firmware at 2MB? Looks more like just bootloader.

What are the advantages to upgrading the bootloader if I'm rooted with a custom recovery? Are there any? I googled and couldn't find any answers.
Also, is there a bugfix/changelog for it?

Service reception is tied to the bootloader. Least was on the S4 , especially for data.
As far as change logs, Samsung never provides them.
But I can tell you it's probably a waste of bandwidth to download the entire firmware for this update and would just tar up the bootloaders and modems and supply those. There's zero changes to the kernel and most likely none to system

make sure you totally power it off then use the volume down and home then power button to go into download mode, don't use the power menu restart from it.
I know that from past experience.
hope this help.

Hi Guys,
I'm on NG3 still and would like to do some updates. Can I go directly to NK2, or do I need to do updates in sequence? Also, using Odin with the two files in the thread doesn't take away root, does it; I just want to make sure?

Hopefully a lot. NH5 sucked for me. NG4 was better. Was getting 60 down on NG4 and only 50 down on NH5.

[ODIN][CWM]ED01 Stock ROM/Kernel/Recovery

I put this together for the folks that don't care about the ED01 modem and just want the stock ROM. It could also be useful for people that got the OTA, but want to go back to stock after flashing a custom ROM. I updated via Adrynalyne's method (Odin DL09, update to EA28, then ED01) that he posted here.
There are two versions, one for Odin, the other for CWM. The Odin version is still rooted, but otherwise stock. It will flash the ROM, kernel, and recovery, as well as perform a factory reset. The CWM Zip version is not rooted, but you will want to wipe data after you flash it (perform a factory reset). Neither method will flash the modem as I have no way to dump that, so you will need to already have the ED01 modem if you want to be fully stock.
Odin Version
CWM Zip Version
I'm guessing this gives CWM3?
And which kernel?

This is completely stock ED01 that has been rooted minus the modem. There is no CWM recovery, no custom kernel, it is all stock.
Ah ok. Do I flash this or the modem first?
Thanks.
flashing this will also remove and CWM you have installed.
Is this rooted with the new su package? Thanks
This is great work! I want the ED01 modem for this though, that prob wont be happening anytime soon though im guessing right?

This doesn't include a modem, so you will be on the same baseband you were on beforehand. Until someone digs up a ED01 modem, you need to do the OTA to get the ED01 modem.

Yeah, until someone happens to find a full Odin package for ED01, or can somehow stumble upon just an ED01 modem, this will just be good for flashing the stock rooted ED01 system/kernel.
I thought the EC01 modem would work with this?

Modem and Radio r the same thing
Thanks for this. I have been flashing my phone every other week if not more since day 1 without any problems. Now that I want to sell it all of a sudden I'm stumped and can't get it back to working order before I ship it out. Hopefully this will solve my problems. Thanks again. Thunderbolt, here I come!
thanks for the ODIN! This will help greatly! Is it pretty much stock, or did you change a few things (DEBLOAT) and does it have the STAY AWAKE feature?
Modem = Baseband = Radio
Out of curiosity why would you flash this when you can get the version with the modem?
What's the advantage?
Thank you for your work.
Sent with my thumbs.
It would be useful if you did the OTA to get the modem, then installed a custom ROM and needed to go back to stock. Say your phone starts doing something odd, you can't take it in with a custom ROM on it, so you could use this to get back to stock faster than taking the DL09->EA28->ED01 route.

Exactly, cause how odd would it be for a phone to have a ED01 modem and DL09 system =D lol
so has there been any noticeable differences between ec01 and ed01?
Thanks for this; I already did the long stroll to get the ED01 Radio, and this will save me tons of time if "something goes wrong" or for the next ROM change.
is it possible to use re-partition option with this rom? or atlas PIT file?

Rooting/ROM question

I ordered a unlocked i9100 from clove but the screen was defective so I think I'm just going to get an AT&T version of the phone. I'm looking for a kernel that is straight forward and quick to install. I was going to use hellcats kernel but it doesn't work with the AT&T version.
I'm looking for a kernel/ROM that is clean, stable, fast, gets rid of carrier bloatware and allows tethering like the international version did. I just want a ROM to basically look stock but remove all the extra crap. I'm not a big theme person or anything.
Thanks for the advice and recommendations.
My Recommendation is the Unnamed rom/Entropy DD kernel. Found here and here, but Entropy's DD kernel is already included with his rom bundle.
Unnamed is one of the most stable and professional looking roms while maintaining speed and fluidity at all times.
Just my recommendation. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about flashing... and welcome to the i777 forums!

Note that LPM (charging when the phone is turned off) is broken in the DD release included with Unnammed - once you flash Unnammed you probably will want to flash a newer release.
Yes, I meant to mention it but I guess I didnt... please update Entropy's DD kernel to the latest one (right now its on 12/8/11).

Quick question (which is probably silly, but since this was raised, I figured I'd ask).
How do you flash a newer release? I did the UnNamed ROM in using the sticky, but I keep hearing people talk about updating the kernel (they all seem to have different dates). 12/1/11 and now you guys are talking about one from 12/8/11. I just want to make sure I'm running the most up-to-date kernel/ROM.

Download the kernel, place it on the root of your SD card, reboot into recovery mode (CWM) and then flash the kernel through CWM. Reboot and your running the latest kernel.

When you update the rom, yes its suggested to reset/clear cache. Kernels should never have you clear/reset... if they do suggest it, they are doing something wrong.

Titanium Backup... found in the market.
Just remember to only restore apps +data. Never restore system data unless you reflashed the kernel/from that the system data was backed up from.
You can restore apps + data from rom to rom and it "shouldn't" mess anything up.

Haha, Odin is a program and is used to flash kernels and/or roms. It can be very picky though and has caused some people to brick their devices. Ive always had good luck with odin, but other people have not. Odin however, with our phones, will trigger the yellow triangle and count meter if you flash a non-stock kernel.
Entropy has made a custom kernel with lots of tweaks and hacks to make the phone run better/smoother/faster/better/better... did I mention better?
There are several ways to flash a kernel other than through Odin. The stickies in the dev section cover this. I highly suggest to read up on it, then pick which way to flash. I recommend flashing the return to stock kernel with root (unless you're already rooted), then because you have root access now, you can get Mobile Odin to flash Entropy's custom kernel... but because you are going through Mobile Odin to flash instead of Odin, you wont trigger the yellow triangle or flash counter.
Its all up to you on how or what to flash, just read the threads in the dev forum, they will help guide you.

I had serious issues when I tried to flash back to Entropy's stock (with and without root). It started out with the messaging app not working right, so I did a factory reset which fixed everything (so I thought), until I needed to make an important call. The phone app would not produce or receive sound after the call or answer button was hit.
Then the superuser wouldn't uninstall (Even when apps that needed root access said that the phone wasn't rooted) so I could take it back to AT&T. After rerooting (From his unrooted tar) and then unrooting with superoneclick and then flashing his unrooted tar again with Odin did Superuser disappear.
I returned the phone and got a new one through warranty... But I don't think I'm going to root for awhile until I figure out which way works the best, and how to reliably unroot it.

It sounds like you definitely hit a snag somewhere along the line when you went back to stock. I've done full restores more times than I care to admit (all in the name of testing) and never had an issue arise from it. I wouldn't let it deter you in any way, but yeah it never hurts to just slow it down a tad if you're hitting an obstacle or two.
The nice thing here though, is that there's a lot of activity on here and I have yet to see an issue not get fixed, defective phones aside of course...
I'm new to the galaxy s 2 as I just bought mine the other day. I did my research on how to root properly before attempting to do so. There are several methods to root and not one of them brought up the topic or warned about the flash counter. I rooted using a method that tripped the flash counter and now I just spent $8 on a jig....not exactly breaking the bank but all of the rooting threads needs to be updated with this information :-/

Find whatever version of Odin is the latest and greatest. I'm sure it does have something to do with it. Make sure all your samsung drivers are up to date on your computer as well. Also, try hooking it up to kies and doing an emergency frimware something or other option. Here's a little guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088809. Something will work. I have never seen that screen before. Profresh is probably right in one sense, using Odin. which I believe 3.185 is the one, but don't think it really matters. if TWRP is not working?, doesn't make sense, don't use home key there anyway.
may I suggest the Odin and just start over returning to stock. stock ICS though. don't waste time with GB beings your device was upgraded there long ago. then you can upgrade official JB. may be an extra step but that doesn't matter, your wanting to know if HOME button is going to.
you don't use home button in either process (Odin or TWRP). maybe your phone???

you can check your "Super Everything Thread" under general forum. you can find a step by step and there are youtube videos also.
I do believe just the stock is going to get you the Kernal you need. do what you want, but I think your wasting your time with GB. can you get download mode? if so just flash the stock ICS tar file. if your home button doesn't work, why would you waste your time with any recovery or even rooting.
see if that thing will boot. then worry bout any upgrades.
baby steps man. lets find out if that home button works or not. if it doesn't work, then you are not rooted and go talk to carrier for possible replacement?
NO?
The screen you showed us is not a custom recovery.

Just to warn you. If this locks your bootloader, its probably locked forever a la the S4 and N3. If you previously used a custom recovery, you will no longer have this option, likely ever again with this phone. In addition, getting Hashcode to develop SS for this phone is unlikely in my opinion because we've been unlocked for so long and the phone is over a year old. Many times users take root and unlocked bootloaders for granted, thinking that if they take the OTA, someone will figure out how to reunlock or reroot the phone, the former is HIGHLY unlikely. If you can wait a day, someone will likely post an unmodified flashable zip of the newest OTA that won't jeopardize your unlocked bootloader. If you truly don't care about losing this option for good, then by all means go ahead and odin the OTA, the PDA slot should do it.
So this is what I am pondering. I'm running cleanrom which is no longer supported; should I stick with 4.2 forever or take the 4.3 build from verizon ?

Well....I flashed it and now my phone is stuck in an endless bootloop. It flashes to the "Galaxy Note II" screen for about one second, then reboots and does the same thing over and over...I can still put it into download mode, but cannot boot it into recovery...ODIN says it cant open the Serial (COM) port to my phone....ugh

There are more than just those two options. You can stay on clean ROM til a rooted, stable OTA flashable is posted. Beans is working on that now I believe. That way you'll have the same experience that the OTA gives, but you'll retain the option to root or even flash a different ROM should you desire. Beans will also be updating his custom ROM build to my knowledge based on this new OTA.
How do I track this? I mean is there a thread that Bean post to that will indicate wehn this is ready ?

If you can get to download mode it's not bricked. Try doing a factory reset in stock recovery or figure out why your drivers aren't recognizing the device.

I cant get to stock recovery, unfortunately. The device IS being recognized (its showing up in the [ID:COM] spot) but for some reason after flashing Odin seems to have stopped talking to the device...
This is the message I get in ODIN when connecting the device
"<ID:0/004> Added!!"
As the release of 4.3 is now unleashed into the world. Going to retitle the original post title to make this the general discussion thread.
Enjoy 4.3

That should mean its ready to flash. But you tried already, right? What exactly happened? Did Odin finish successfully or was there an error?
Finally got my 4.3 update around 1pm today! I've been waiting for the update solely for the Galaxy Gear full functionality. Nice Christmas gift :good:

You need to flash the PIT file in Odin. The same thing happened to me.

[Odin][Odin Flashable - Bootloader/Modem][G900TUVS1FOL1]Updated 2/1/16

Made this for myself, and noticed other people wanting it. If you are in anyway unsure of what your doing, please don't flash Odin packages. I'm not on here all that often to answer questions, so please refer to aaricchavez's thread as I'm sure the same questions will be asked.
I was able to flash by pulling the battery, then vol-dwn + home + pwr. Choose vol-up for downloader and flash. Worked on the second try. See screenshots bellow.
What you do to your phones on you, consider this: Warning flashing Bootloader/Modem/ FULL FIRMWARE LOLLIPOP
Updates seem to work best after a shutdown and battery pull. If camera stops working, clear your caches and reboot.
Flashable in Odin:
Bootloader/BL:
FOL1 Bootloader
FOL1 Bootloader
Phone/CP:
FOL1 Modem
FOL1 Modem
TWRP Recovery:
Recovery
My Customized Recovery:
2.8.7.0 Recovery
I have tried numerous times to install bootloader but it stays on dob1. I got the modem just fine. Don't understand why

I've tried updating my bootloader& modem as well as the firmware in Odin 3.09 & 3.10 & all it keeps doing is failing can someone PLZ help
The only way I've been able to flash the last few modems and bootloaders is by pulling the battery, and even then It may take a few times. DOB1 took me 4 or 5 times.
And if your wondering, the modems a huge improvement. At least for me anyways. I'm up in the hills of the SF east bay and got very spotty LTE before, no longer an issue.
Could I use flashfire to flash the boot and modem?
Edit, I know it's possible to flash full firmwares but not sure about boot and modem

Can I flash just the modem if I'm already rooted using a CM12 ROM (Temasek unofficial)?
Does flashing a full stock ROM immediately update the bootloader and modem?

Yup. On rare occasion partitions respond in strange ways to odin flashing, ie. partitions other than what you're flashing become unwriteable. But for the most part that's a rarity.

Depends on your existing version, and the version your upgrading to, but with rare exception yes.
Is this the newest BL and modem for our phones?

As of 10/10/15 FOG6 is, I just uploaded.
thanks for this. just realized today there was an update.. only a one letter difference, took a while to realize it!
can someone upload the new one?
Just wanted to add this. Was having a hard time flashing BL and CP
1. removed the sd card (tmobile thing I read somewhere)
2. took off the md5 off the file name so it was just a .tar file
3. put both files in to oden 3.11 and on the first flash had auto reboot NOT checked, then pulled the USB cable and pulled Battery.
4. then booted to download mode with cable in and and battery in and reflashed with auto reboot checked.
I installed omega rom v20 and I had a bootloop because I didnt have a 6.x.x bootloader and modem.
I came from 4.x.x and I almost just installed a stock 6.x.x to get the updated BL and CP, then root that.
I have had good luck with omega, but I use TB to clean out all the Samsung stuff. I purchased the App for $7, worth every penny.
