Hi,
So I just got my Z Ultra today, coming from an Xperia Z1. Got this new humongous baby as a trade with one of my friends.
So what setting do you guys have to improve the color on your Z Ultra?
I know there's a similar thread in the Z1 discussing the gamma settings and color calibration, but I don't think the and viewing problem is as bad as on the Z Ultra as the Z1.
Thanks!
Z1 Combining White Balance and DoomKernel Color Calibration
Hello friends!
I'm new here, but I bring a novelty that can cheer us, the owners of the Z1!
It is known that the Doomkernel V11 allows you to calibrate the display of our Z1 and this together with the White Balance, can greatly improve the display quality.
What we need?
1 - Unlocked bootloader
2 - Root
3 - V11 Doomkernel
4 - KitKat
Step 1: Set the White Balance with RGB values to your liking, I use 255 for everything;
Step 2: Install Faux123 or Pimp Z1, so you have access to calibration setting of the display.
Step 3: Set the RGB values in one of the APPs cited above (I prefer the Pimp Z1) to between 70 and a maximum of 150, the choice you prefer
And voila!
The display loses the yellow dye, gets saturated colors and angles of vision far superior!
Sure we lost a bit of the maximum brightness of the display.
Do your tests and come back here to comment!
Thanks all!
(Forgive my bad english!)

BTW just now I compare about my xperia sola with my housemate one and found that my sola's screen is different than my housemate one:
1) My sola's screen test white color is more brighter than my housemate's sola in same brightness setting;
2) The DPI is different when show at quadrant, my sola's is 265x265 while my housemate's is 284x282;
3) Viewing angle also different, my sola's has limited viewing angle while my housemate's is more wider;
4) Color depth hard to say, but for me my sola's color display is more reality than my housemate's sola.
Both Xperia sola is in Stock .54,
My sola's SI number is 6670.6, black color version;
my housemate's sola SI number is 6667.5, white color version.
Can anyone explain what problem in this kind of thing?
BTW just now other forum's member got give me his Xperia sola's screen info, his sola's screen DPI also 284x282 and is white color version Xperia sola, just no ask him his phone SI number.
Can anybody reply my question?
Same here bro, i have two xperia sola one black and one white and screens are different.
My devices info
Xperia sola white purchased from hong-kong
Stock firmware 6.0.b.3.184 GB india
Quadrant DPI = 284x282
Xperia sola black purchased from india
Stock firmware 6.0.b.3.184 GB india
Quadrant DPI = 284x282
But i like black one, much clear blacks and better viewing angle, much easier on eyes.
UPDATE:
Sony explained this issue in this warranty document , Page 13
Minor variations in display brightness and colour may occur between phones. There may be tiny bright or dark dots on the display. It occurs when individual dots have malfunctioned and can not be adjusted. Two defective pixels are deemed acceptable.

Hey guys,
So I have been playing around with the camera on my Z Ultra and I wanted to share a few things with you.
1. DO NOT use Superior Auto at all!!
It destroys pretty much every photo and has too much noise and no sharpness. It's just shockingly bad.
2. Always use normal shooting mode.
3. Become comfortable adjusting settings and actually getting to know the camera so you know when to use appropriate ISO etc.
4. Adjust ISO yourself and keep it at 400 or below. Use in combination with HDR for some very pleasing results.
Those are the 4 most important tips I think. Never ever ever use superior auto. The results with normal mode are very crisp and have lots of sharpness and contrast.
Overall the camera I believe is better than the Xperia Z. I own both and with the right settings, the Z Ultras images appear sharper.
I'll post a few examples.
Thanks and how are you all liking the camera so far?
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Here are a few examples.
1 taking with Superior Auto. The other taking with Normal mode on ISO 100.
Be sure to zoom.in on the bottle. You can see so much noise on the photo taking with Superior Auto.
Hopefully the results speak for themselves
If you want other photos I'll be happy to provide them.

Way to much red in the photos taken with Superior Auto. Hopefully Sony will fix this in the next update. Btw, do you have the old Sony UI or the new one? (Old has a dark settings menu, while the new one is white)
I have the Old UI with the Bravia Engine 2.
New UI should be released in about a months time. Hopefully sooner
When are you buying your Ultra?

I'm buying it as soon as it hits the stores in Norway, which i believe is in the first week of september(?), like the rest of Europe.
Unless a different beast emerges from the depths of hell somewhere, that is (which i highly doubt, so ZU it is.)
Is it not the last week of September it gets released in Europe?
Its funny right now, I am slowly becoming to accept the Z Ultras size as normal and the 6.4" display as normal.
Even when I pick up a 5" device now, it feels so tiny!! Haha
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
According to news sources, the release date for europe is september 6th.
I had the same experience when i got my Note. I came from the Desire HD with a 4.3" display, so the Note's size was ridiculous at that time, and i remember laughing my ass of when i unboxed it! Now? Not big at all. It's the same thing with the iPhone. I had the first gen. from the states and a 3GS, and they were really big at the time, but i just laugh at its tiny body now
When do you think phones will stop growing? I imagine 7" with almost no bezels at all will be the limit.
Unboxing my Ultra though, I did laugh when I seen it and my first day carrying it to work etc, quite a surprise haha.
Me personally I love big phones though, can never understand people who say they don't want anything bigger than 4.5 - 4.7 inches.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Good question, and i have no idea, but i think we are near the limit now. IF the OEM's are planning on something even bigger, then i guess they'll have to make them without any bezels. That would be awesome and i guess a little science fiction looking
Something like this:

I agree. I love big devices and my Xperia Z feels really tiny in comparison but one thing is for sure: I think the Ultra is the biggest size that a phablet can have and still being pocketable.
It fits my pockets but I notice that I can't carry a bigger device in them. The future development could be smaller bezels and therefore perhaps a 6,8 and perhaps even a 7 inch screen. I would even guess that the small tablets like the Nexus 7 will be replaced by phablets with the same screen size but smaller body (Ultra size).
So the future market will offer phablets up to 7 inch, then tablets starting at 8 inches and upwards followed by dockable "tablets" with screens of 12 inches and bigger. The small tablet is going to become a phablet - adding smaller bezels and a smaller body to the existing 7 inch screen and putting a dialer on is a straight forward development, especially when the Nexus 7 has connectivity to mobile networks already and the old Galaxy Tab could make calls.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 edition of the Nexus 7 will be a phablet and that Sony are creating a partly new market with the Z Ultra.
Coming from iPhone 5, the UZ produces astoundingly bad overprocessed images. What's coming off the sensor is actually pretty good as you can see if you shoot in burst mode since that is the only setting that doesn't add a massive sharpness filter to the output. All other modes are crap. Massive over sharpening and then saving at what has to be 50% jpg quality. I don't get the mentality of putting in user defined ISO settings but forcing sharpening and jpg quality.

I do not have these issues. The only problems i have is when the phone is using Superior Auto.
Any other mode is perfectly sharp and noise free. I have also compared it to my iPhone 5 and the photos are very very comparable when you get the settings right.
Please tell me the about camera settings for best output of images in Xperia Z Ultra .. i donno how to configure my z ultra for best output images .. so please any one help abt best camera settings

1. Always set the camera to Normal mode.
2. Set the ISO at a maximum of 400 and not higher.
3. Use HDR on occasions where it might be needed.
On those settings you will get sharp images. Of course, you have to learn the camera a little yourself too.

Frankly, that's not how you learn stuff. What's wrong with just experimenting like normal people do?
Excuse Peppa pig, this was ISO 200, hdr with center focusing

A new “local adaptive contrast” algorithm has been introduced to the Xperia Z3. It analyzes every single pixel and optimizes its contrast individually. This increases the dynamic range without having to raise the back light.
Sony also uses a technique in which they “shift phosphor material instead of cutting light by color filters”. This allows Sony to use “colder” whites (leaning towards the blue spectrum), which tend to look brighter.
More light-efficient LEDs are also used, which would be more of a hardware upgrade. Sadly, Sony doesn’t go too deep into this section.
so the xz3 display might be better than xz2...
but i think it has stability problem ! (it s kindda Sony works... everytime new elements don have enough stability)

Well the guy who uploaded the video replied to me saying it's just the way the z3's display came across on his video camera. It's extremely bright, maybe even too bright for an lcd panel.
He did sure me that the colours are just as punchy though.

Guys ,i am not happy with the display of the m4 aqua.it is similar to moto G3 display.but not the best in the price range.when compared with the Z3 compact it is ages away.
The videos of the device from MWC 2015 had a better display. I thought the phone will have a similar display unit.but i am wrong.
I prefer the Display of the Z2 more.
Does anyone know any tweaks to build.prop or display color scale or any other tweak to increase the quality?
And another think why does the edges of top and bottom are slightly blackish mixed.
I think it is lollipop gradient.
Does anyone know to remove it?
Thanks if anyone can reply. :good:
Hi all:
I just got my Xperia XZ1, and I have noticed that the screen does looks yellow compared to Xperia XZ and other smartphones like LG G6 when the screen show white color.
I know that we can change the Blue color in the white color balance option to make the screen looks more blue like other smartphones.
but my question is """" Is All The XZ1 Units Screens Show The White Color More in The Yellow Side ? """""
to explain more ............ the white color in the XZ1 looks like yellow !!!!
the Xperia XZ1 screen is a very crisp and clear one, I do feel that colors are alive but I'm wondering if all XZ1 units have the same screen or my XZ1 screen have a problem and if there is a problem is it a software or hardware problem ???????
Change in Settings-> Display -> Color gamut -> sRGB professional
This solved for me the same yellowish white color on my XZ1 and colors looks more natural now.

Hey Even I have the same issue, My old Z2 is much natural n blue. I even kept my blue colour balance at the maximum 255 but still looks yellow compared to the z2's 85 blue. Did it really work after you've done a factory reset?
Adjust your white balance setting.

Thanks for sharing this settings.
My screen looks looks much better and more natural.
BTW. Any idea to know the oem screen brand name and version?
It could be good to compare and find if there is different screen model and which one looks yellowish ?
I noticed that when switching between colour gamut modes, the display randomly gets a very red tint. Switching gamut again will restore normal white balance. Also, I find that the white of my xz1's display is very neutral. If I look at my xz1 after having looked at a more blueish display of my Z3 Compact for a while, the xz1 will look yellowish because my eyes have adapted to the cold blue tint of the z3 compact display. But after letting my eyes adapt to my xz1 again, its display beats my z3 compact out of the water in terms of white balance.
Also, blueish screens are worse for your sleep

Thanks, but the colors are to "cold".
Best I could get, trying to match to a good calibrated XZ screen. (XZ screen targeted to 6500k).
For (now) my settings are, with color gamut set to standard:
R 142
G 0
B 179
R 42
g 108
b 255
